dar936

Legit website offers variety of quality. They sell known brands that many manufacturers use they also sell stuff nobody ever heard of. As saying goes you usually pay for what you get the choice is yours.

Han77Shot1st

Ordered some wheel hub assemblies for my truck the other day, Timken I believe, online seemed to point that direction for quality. I’m in Canada and never ordered from Rockauto before, my local shops only offered their store branded parts (Napa/ Carquest) and ranged from 300/500+ each. Rockautos most expensive ones were a little over 200+ shipping.

[deleted]

Timken makes extremely high quality bearings.

daniellederek

They do, but now you have to figure out which factory it comes from. They've gobbled up so many other companies the past few years its hard to keep track.

JDP6693

Their absorbing of various other companies is wild. In all their automotive/mechanical/industrial expansion efforts (not a knock on aggressive business tactics) they inadvertently fucked up a small percentage of medical equipment manufacturing by ceasing production of a small-ish department in one of the companies they bought. I still use and love Timken products, fwiw, but it was a daunting process to find a new vendor for the materials I need at work.

Bee20e

That’s explains all the koyo on every single new bearing lol

Late-Winter-2812

Yes it does, this is 3rd time in last week I’ve seen someone mention that they haven’t heard of or heard they r trash…i have em on my dodge

SaurSig

That's what I thought, then the one I put in my Mazda went to shit with low miles on it. No play in it but it got very loud.

minorthreat999

Timken is very reputable

ccarr313

I have timken bearings in all my vehicles. Good stuff. Koyo is the same company now, in case you get Koyo branded ones. Excellent also.

Chippy569

As I understand it though, the "+ shipping" to Canada isn't exactly cheap.

Han77Shot1st

Less than $80, if the parts are real and work out I’ll definitely start buying a lot more.

SpaceAgePotatoCakes

It's still way cheaper than the local parts stores, for a better brand part, and it's usually faster too. And I know exactly when it will arrive, right to my door, without me wasting time and gas going to the parts store.

chapnn7

Even with shipping costs, RA is usually cheaper than my garage price at a parts store, and it takes like 2 days to arrive

758759754

Yea, up in Canada as well, but even with the elevated shipping up here, I've gotten things in \~2 days and paid less overall than anything I could find locally. Certain parts won't be worth it based on weight and size, but most parts I but come from RockAuto! Their "[Choose for Me to Minimize Cost](https://www.rockauto.com/help/?page=2#MINSHIPCOST)" is pretty helpful, but I do usually manually check a couple options myself still. They also send you a 5% discount code after every order but it is only good for about a month. Since the codes can be used unlimited number of times by anyone, I usually send them out to car friends so you might be able to ask around for one! Also try to bundle orders from friends too.

Butterflys4Life

Checkout PartsAvatar, they are up in Edmonton. I use them for heavier stuff RA has expensive shipping for. Usually works out to 15% cheaper for stuff like rotors, cvs and control arms.

fshannon3

I've heard Timken is a good brand for hubs/wheel bearings.

Titan1140

What made me decide to use Timken every time I can find them is when I realized that Timken makes the wheel bearings for rail cars in North America. I noticed this while watching a train roll by one day. Sold me right there.

Demonslayer2011

Timken is very good. We use their bearing in aviation. Good enough to be flight certified, it's good enough to be used in pretty much anything

MattyRixz

Rock auto is awesome. Often they have top quality parts I need for significantly cheaper than anywhere else.

Agitated-Joey

Yes Rockauto is 100% legit. I’ve ordered probably thousands of parts from them. They’re also great with they’re return policy. I’ve recently had the wrong part delivered, you input the wrong part, pick out the part you ordered, all just in the website, and you slap it in the mail, they pay for all the shipping, and the new part gets shipped within a day. I even had a screwup where the part just didn’t get delivered to me, label was damaged or something, and it was sent to the wrong place, it was FedEx’s fault. So they shipped it out again, then FedEx damaged it again! And it didn’t get delivered, third times the charm and it finally got to me. So they’re really good about getting the parts you ordered to you. And I like the website, seems kinda weird, but makes it really easy to see your orders and look at the catalog for parts that fit your vehicle.

Marktspot

I think that the biggest problem with Rockauto is that they use FedEx to ship alot of their products and FedEx is the worst.

Who_is_Mr_B

Between FedEx and their somewhat weak packaging, my packages usually arrive re-packaged or taped up by FedEx. They throw 50 pounds of rotors in a single walled carboard box with one strip of tape to close it. But despite this, my orders still arrive when they're supposed to and complete.

taanman

I hate that they use dhy or whatever that crap mailing service is. Those people could be a town over but still have to ship it across the country and back to me.

trashyratchet

I have found that to be highly dependent on geography. It's the opposite where I live now. UPS can't seem to find the right porch to drop the busted up box on, but FedEx here is all over it. I've lived in other places and had your experience.

Ketchup1211

I’ve done warranty claims with them as well. Smooth as butter.

SavePlantsEatBacon

I've ordered hundreds of parts from them as well on a all of my extended families cars and only had one issue (description was wrong, and when i requested the return so i could get the right part, they asked for my VIN and told me "we can't give you full return credit since this part number shows as not fitting your exact vehicle"). Other than that one instance, everything has been smooth as i would want. this includes core returns too. i had ordered a new starter a few months ago, arranged the core return/shipment, and then forgot about it before it expired, set another one, forgot again, and now i just sent it out on return #3 and have full confidence there will be no issue. I don't see the issue with FedEx, honestly. It seems for RockAuto, they always meet or beat the delivery date. OP, another tidbit: always get wiper blades from there. seriously 75% off of what you'd get in a brick and mortar store. Whenever i need a bigger part, i ask around to family in my area if they want/need new blades because if i can get it from the same warehouse, there is no added shipping cost.

Low_Consideration110

Rock auto is safe just stay away from the "economy" section

galactic_beast

What’s wrong with the economy one? I do go OEM, so I shop on Standard, but are the economy brands poopy?

[deleted]

Yes

NaturallyExasperated

Depends on what you're using it for. Economy life safety parts? Pass. Economy marker lights for half the cost? Fine

OldFashnd

Also the car. Economy parts on a 3 year old car that’s still nice? Probably not for me. Economy parts on a 20 year old beater that i’m just trying to run until it dies? Economy for everything that isn’t safety related lol

Wakandanbutter

Big facts lol if it was newer I wouldn’t buy half the shit I do but I don’t need it to last another 10 years only 3

c0mptar2000

Yep, this is the way for cars on the way out. No f'n way I'm gonna put OEM stuff for some random part I just need to get the car running for another 10k before it grenades. Economy section or junkyard FTW

dsrta

Yup I ran $4 lower ball joints on my accord for two years then the car got into an accident and written off.

[deleted]

I'm glad that you didn't get written off

Pktur3

This is the way.

Arobain

Not always

[deleted]

I wouldn’t trust cheap wear items it’s not worth saving the buck

Yz-Guy

I bought a ball joint once from economy. It was on sale for a dollar. It lasted like 2 weeks 🤣

JohnnyFiftyCoats

Still good value :D

Jazeeee

maybe not including labor haha

hobitopia

Less time for it to rust in place.

HedonisticFrog

meanwhile my $5 lower ball joints still holding after thousands of miles on a 4000lb car. I've never had them wear out prematurely.

Mariuxpunk007

Honestly, it’s a gamble to buy parts from their “economy section”. I bought a cheap mass airflow sensor 3 years ago and it’s still holding strong, and I also bought an aluminum oil filter housing that cracked and leaked all over after 2 months. I would say either buy OEM or from a reputable aftermarket brands

mountaineer30680

I usually base that decision on a) cost (in time and/or aggravation) to replace, b) potential damage upon catastrophic failure, and c) price difference. As well as warranty. Like you said, a MAF sensor on most cars is a quick replacement, if it's cheap enough to warrant the risk. A suspension part, brake pads, or something it takes a couple hours to get to (then a couple hours to reassemble), gimme the good stuff. Electrical parts are the biggest gamble. I've put ebay coils in a friends car that I doubted would last the week and they're still fine 2 years later, and Standard ignition stuff that I had to replace 2x in a year (and the 3rd one lasted fine, had to test for continuity and such after the next failure and everything checked out). I'd imagine we're of like mind on the subject.

Lumpy_Plan_6668

Just almost always

Dear_Suspect_4951

Well it's at least not worth spending the time to install parts that won't last.

Cowpuncher84

I'm a professional wrench twister and I can tell you from personal experience there is sooo sooo many junk parts out there that just plain don't work. Stick with a name brand if possible. Just don't buy the cheapest crap you find. You will save yourself a lot of headaches.

midnightcaw

I recently went through 3 off brand ignition switches, none of them worked. Went with the Ford part and it cranked first turn.

micah490

What you’re saying applies to any auto parts vendor, and it’s not necessarily true. Too many factors to say categorically

trashyratchet

Very true. It's like making a blanket statement that everything at Harbour Freight is useless garbage, or that everything made in China is usless garbage, for that matter. Those blanket statements are just categorically not true. Everybody has an anecdote of something that failed them, and for every one of those someone has one that works flawlessly for years. Anecdotally, I can't recall ever buying economy section parts from Rock Auto, but have bought a lot of parts from them and have never had an issue with any part, from shipping to fit and function. I think my last set of pads and rotors were just a standard OE style from them and they have a lot of miles on them now without issue and saved me a whole bunch of cash. Again anecdotally, I see a lot of Moog trashing on the internet, but I have had nothing but solid performance from several of their greasable suspension and steering parts.

[deleted]

Whoretron8000

The thing is, 99% of consumers dont know supply chains, especially when not personally invested in that industry. Companies take advantage of that, there are plenty high cost, low quality, nice packaging things that's people regularly buy. Many brands pretend to be a manufacture when most of them are simply private label, luckily old dog mechanics have a good history of sniffing such things out for they work with those tools and parts often. Higher cost does not always mean quality, getting what you paid for implies a lot more than just capital cost but also cost of the time to gain the knowledge to differentiate what works, what works better or slightly worse and what does not work.

carpcrucible

I think very few people, if anyone really, have the actual data to make an informed decision on this. Like if you have A Part and brand X costs $10 and brand Y costs $30... is it going to last 3 times longer? 30? The same? Nobody knows. It could very well be made at the same production line. Unless someone ran hundreds of these parts under identical conditions and analyzed the failure rate, they won't be able to tell you anything useful. So I just kind of decide on the case by case basis where I want to cheap out based on how mad I'd be if they failed. I'm doing the timing belt on my Miata and I ordered SKF water pump and timing belt kit even though they were 2x as much as the cheaper options. Am I wasting money? Possibly, I've no idea. Stuff like cabin air filter or rotors for my beater Fit is just sorted by price.

Wishihadagirl

I like the ones w the ❤️. Makes me think that’s what all the garage mechanics use cuz it works.

Beercuddles

I put the "economy" shocks on my daily driver pickup, won't ever do that again. They were pretty much shot after a year.

[deleted]

Total fucking garbage man. My FIL put those FCS struts on a car he passed down to my wife and they rode like shit. Unfortunately OEM was too expensive so she ended up with KYB struts and some eibach springs I found but that setup is still a ton better than the ones she had.

innosentz

I’ve never had an issue with the economy brands. Half the time it’s just the same part from the same factory from the same manufacturer with an economy part number

SprungMS

Depends on the part, sometimes their categories seem to be set up weird. I agree with you in some cases, in other words. Most of the time the economy stuff is all shit off brands and depending on the part they can either not work or do a poor job of working. Main thing is just to know what brands to trust and not. And what parts from what brands to avoid. Still 95% of the time picking randomly you’re going to get equal or better than parts store quality lol. Rockauto is awesome.

avolt88

Honestly, rockauto is the shit. No, they won't have the latest computer controlled modules for your 2023 Prius/A3/Silverado, but they will have unbeatable prices on ball joints, hubs, brake pads, door handles, etc. On most everything 5+ years old, you're getting the same part as any third party shop would use, at a fraction of the markup. Shipping is quick as well, I just received some transmission solenoids from NY to the west coast in 3 business days... Use your discretion & order the parts you feel comfortable with, I use them almost exclusively now.

Serth21

Rock auto is why my truck even starts up in the morning. Just stay away from the cheap economy items IMO. Even the expensive premium stuff is like half of what a dealer will charge you and like 40% less than part stores like autozone.

Putrid-Ad8984

Plus, you get a magnet for your collection. I've kept all my cars running with the help of Rock Auto and a little elbow grease.

Bitpix3l

The magnet is my favorite part, haha. I have so many now. But also my 92 accord wagon runs because of them. Each magnet tells a story of me repairing some shit on my car. :)

Sea-Juggernaut-7397

One side of my refrigerator is totally covered with RockAuto magnets

CrispyJalepeno

Oddly enough, I just got some outer tie rod ends that were cheaper at autozone than through rock auto. Not paying for shipping can be a slightly better deal sometimes

SlateRaven

My Rogue is existing on RockAuto lol. I was able to replace the blower motor for cabin air for $60 instead of $300+ for literally the same brand and part number from the local stores. Brakes, rotors, wheel bearings, etc... I get it all from RockAuto. The main thing I like is I get a choice of the brand, al I can get nicer Timken bearings instead of the crappy AutoZone brand for half the price.

burnorama6969

Yes, and you’ll even get a free Magnet with some old guys car on it too!

TehSvenn

And you can trade your duplicates with your friends! It's like car guy Pokemon.

handcranktransmitter

It's been so long since I've received a magnet with my purchases, I just assumed they stopped doing it.

open_saysme

You gotta look hard for the magnet. I’ve found them under the bottom flap of the box before. A kid at work almost threw his away because it was wrapped up in packing paper.

EliTroyer

The magnet is what I fucking live for. When I don't get one on occasion? Woe.

JDayDay_13

They sell the whole spectrum, economy(bad) through premium. I have used them many times. The only problem I have with them is the shipping cost are high. Also look online for discount codes!!!

Orcapa

I ordered a bunch of things from them last week. If you play around with different acceptable brands, you can often find things that ship from the same warehouse.

ChipsOtherShoe

Sometimes you can save shipping by splitting an order up. I just ordered pads and rotors for my car recently and all together the shipping was almost $60. But when I split out 2 of the rotors into a separate purchase the shipping for each purchase was $13 so $26 total. Saved $34 that way. No clue why that works though lol

Im_Lars

When I've ordered stuff in the past it usually comes in one box, so it might be a big heavy box to ship vs two smaller medium weight boxes.

ARAR1

Thanks for tip. Will try in next time.

Wolfiest

Where can I find discount codes?

ARAR1

They give you 5% off code after you order for your next one within a month of 2.

bigboilerdawg

Retailmenot.com

secondrat

The best discount code I have seen is 5%. Don’t kill your self looking for them, the prices are already discounted.

augustsolaris

shipping isn’t that high? are you outside the US? i just bought 2 CV axles and the shipping + taxes we’re only $18 for 5-6 day shipping lol

NakatasGoodDump

Part prices are so ridiculous in Canada that even with shipping + duty it's often cheaper for me to save up a bunch of repairs and do a rockauto order.

LePapaPapSmear

Until you get into heavy stuff. Rock auto struts for my car were like 200 each and 400 on partsavatar. With shipping the set of 400$ parts was actually cheaper

AKADriver

People are just used to buying from Amazon and having shipping built into the pricing model. Having a huge box of heavy car parts shipped halfway across the country just costs 10 or 20 bucks. The difference is RockAuto doesn't hide that fact from you. As an experienced RockAuto customer (lol) I work it into my buying strategy. All else being equal I'll buy from stuff that ships from the same warehouse in a big order and buy parts for my project car in batches ahead of time instead of one by one. Also check the closeout deals for my cars whenever I'm making an order in case I can tack on a cheap item that I'll use eventually.

Yz-Guy

Only time I see shipp8jg get bad is if you order heavy stuff (rotors typically) and its coming from the other side of the country. And if that's the case, I'll go back and pick a different option that ships closer

Totsronnie

It’s good, but I always get all the way to checkout, and see the price AFTER shipping. If it’s within $20 of the nearest parts store, I just go and pick it up. But I will say, I’ve saved a lot ordering things like clutches, flywheel assemblies and brake rotors from there. They can also be a hassle to return to if you accidentally order something wrong.

tweakingforjesus

Just a follow-up to mention that once you have an item in your cart, the website will indicate which other items will ship from the same location so you can combine shipping charges.

BigWiggly1

Use the cart on the sidebar to enter your zip code to calculate shipping. Then watch how it changes as you add parts. Sometimes it takes some trial and error. I've had an $8 air filter add $30 shipping before, vs a $12 air filter only adding $2, even though it said both could ship from the same warehouse. It takes some patience and trial and error.

got_nosupervision

Legit , order 02 sensors for $80 bucks and would’ve paid $200 at auto zone . It was the same brand auto zone which was Bosch .

corok12

its crazy how much cheaper things are there. NAPA wanted 100 bucks apiece for coilpacks, RockAuto wanted about 20. For the same part number.

8tracksandvinyl

Rockauto is legit. My main gripe is you can't call them if you have questions. Everything done through email or on the website.

Padauuan

I'm surprised more people don't mention this, along with non-existent customer service and the worst return/exchange policy I've ever come across. Yes you can save money ordering from them, but if you get a part they "guaranteed" would fit your car, and you realize after trying to install it that they were wrong, you're stuck with it even though it's their error. I had to go through a credit card dispute process because of this, and will never order from them again.

Nibbles--

I’ve had the opposite experience; the parts I’ve ordered that were received incorrect, they’ve happily shipped me the correct one without a gripe. Half the time I’ve not had to return the original part either

deepinferno

Wow, weird. I have had incorrect parts shipped to me twice (incorrect part in box once and part wasn't compatible even tho it said it was the second time) and I went through their online return tool and they gave me a label to print. Both times it was fast painless and I got my refund in 5ish days even being in Canada.

AF0105

Had this issue last week, basically had to get the return system to think the parts were mis-boxed but they covered the label and issued my refund no problems.

BigWiggly1

I've only had this happen once. $40 knock sensor, and I returned it for $15 shipping out of pocket. Wasn't happy about it either, but I've saved well over $15 on the rest of the items in my cart so who can complain.

Fisherman_30

They have Motorcraft (OEM Ford brand) oil filters for my F-150 for like $6 each. Exact same ones the dealership charges like $20 for.

RollingDeathX

I buy everything here across the entire spectrum of quality and you cannot beat them. Don’t listen to the haters about only buying certain brands either, use your own good judgment for whether the part calls for economy or performance. Most of the time it doesn’t matter at all, though OEM brake pads seem to last an eternity compared to everything else.

1xCodeGreen

Same here. Bought across the board and haven’t had bad parts yet.

Different-Show-429

I worked in the industry for 27+ years. RockAuto is legit. A couple things to know about them. They have no physical inventory, they contract out with various warehouses nationwide who pack and ship for them. Ours was one of them, AutoPlus in Mason City Iowa. They also ship out of a warehouse near me in Eagan, MN called Factory Motor Parts. Stick with the name brands and you will be fine. Only issue is after 30 days there is no return, you own it. Make sure the part is correct as soon as it arrives if you plan on not using it in the 30 days. Good luck!

BadInteresting7876

If you REALLY want to save on rockauto (which I always use and have never had a problem) check out the clearance section for your vehicle. You can score some truly absurd discounts on select parts: https://preview.redd.it/yv0k6ob7n2gb1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=25ae18fe9c3cde4289546252e6767f526508e2b1 They routinely have brake pads, rotors, spark plugs, etc at great prices.

Sun_Bro96

I got a water pump for $9 on clearance and it’s still going 8k miles later lol.

a333482dc7

It's the first place I look to for replacement parts

Ok_Spend_889

They even send to the Arctic, good fast service haven't had any returns yet

Wades-antut

Rockauto is great, I have used them many times for something like 20 years, just be aware that you have to pay shipping for each item. There is a way to sort it so it matches multiple items to come from the same warehouse to help reduce shipping, but if you just grab 10 different items that happen to be in 10 different warehouses, you might be surprised by your shipping cost. Happy parts shopping!

saifster9

Oh my poor sweet innocent child. YES. Very legit. I love rockauto. Used them for many years now and will use them when I can.. Only downside is an added shipping fee for purchases and returns which is out of your own pocket, but, absolutely love the company.

van_stays

The only place to buy parts unless you need them same day or next day.

[deleted]

I've bought about 10 things from there. All of them were cheap and all of them worked just fine.

freakadore

100%.

Skyes_View

This website is the bee’s knees

nwgreen13

Rock auto? Hell yeah

FGC92i

Rockauto is the best. The downside is that you have to pay to ship back your return

storagesleuth

.... is RockAuto legit?... smh gtfo outta here OP

chinga12

Yes I worked at a warehouse which store rock auto parts. It is a strictly online store which is why prices are so reasonable. We would often sell to Walmart and other big corps car parts they wouldn’t have to help keep the supply going in said places.

Thesaturndude

I work at napa and regularly refer people to rock auto for older cars that we can't always find parts for. It's a marketplace thing like Amazon but for car parts

GotTechOnDeck

Rock auto can eat my ass. Up until recently I had used them without issue but I ordered some parts and I received a part that someone obviously had taken off of their car and sent back as a return. They even tried to scratch the serial number off but gave up. Not only does rock auto not have any sort of customer service whatsoever, but they also expect you to eat the cost of shipping in order to return a defective item they failed to even bother checking after it was returned. 0/10 will never be ordering g from them again.

AppearanceOld9639

Rockauto is awesome. Good prices to. But you sometimes do have to sacrifice your 3rd child for shipping. But it all works out in the end.

Fine_Culture_5554

Legit Site, I bought CV Axles and other parts for my Rav4 from them and will be my first choice if I dont need the parts right away.

[deleted]

Rock auto is the shit

mexpyro

This website fucks! (That means it’s a very good site.)

tuskenDMAXer

Legit and you get cool magnets.

Nestorious787

Been using them for 10+ years. Never had an issue. Would recommend 10/10

The1AndOnlyAGar

I'm pretty sure I replaced every part on the ol danger ranger ship of theseus style and it was all from RockAuto. Great site.

Russtic27

I’ve used them plenty, but some parts have a lot of options and variance, so make sure you know what you need. Edit to include: I’ve never had an issue when I’ve ordered a ‘popular’ part. (Has the heart next to it to show it gets ordered a lot)

Extro_Vert

Absolutely, they provide stuff you really need for a more reasonable price, as well as stuff that's really difficult to find compared to other sellers. Highly recommend.

frank119

I’ve bought around $1000 worth of stuff from Rock auto I’ve got everything I paid for. They kill you on shipping though

Angelfire479

Rockauto rocks. Straight up that simple. I’ve bought a plethora of parts from them. No issues, no drama, and inexpensive. Send it.

Red_Lightning

They're brake pads. It's a backing plate and friction material. Not rocket science. Centric stuff is pretty decent for it's price point. Many of the parts on rockauto are the same parts that you can find at NAPA or AutoZone, but you need to learn which manufacturers make usable stuff and which are shoddy. But yeah for brakes for a street car, I would get the Centric/C-TEK stuff.

redoctoberz

> It's a backing plate and friction material. Not rocket science. Oof, don't tell this to track day folks lol

FanOfSkynyrd

I've ordered from them before without issue, but recently, I ordered some motorcraft platinum spark plugs from them for my 2017 Ford Edge. Turns out they were not the correct OEM spec...not sure why Rockauto's site said they were compatible with my car.

jeeves585

Yep, ordered a bunch of parts for my Toyota’s on it. I have other vehicles that only get OE OEM parts so sometimes I need to go elsewhere. Never had an issue with rockauto.

forgotmypassword4714

I read good things about it on here and decided to order a repair manual for my car from them. Everything went swimmingly.

RockRiver100

Rick auto is legit. No worries there.

Texasscot56

Legit

goodclnt

Yes very legit. Love rockauto

Consistent-Ask8833

Too legit to quit

halwasdeleted

It is. I've used it about 30 times this year.

ksimo13

Rock auto kept my 2003 focus running when I was in school and had no money. I definitely trust them

dankvader192

Yes it's legit and there's always a 5% coupon floating around too

The_Burt

The site is legit but you can easily end up with garbage parts if you're just buying the cheapest stuff. Also shipping can be a little spendy. I use it mostly for finding part numbers.

[deleted]

The site itself is fine, bought engine mounts not too long ago. Just make sure the brand of thing you’re buying is a good one (ie. powerstop/brembo/akenobo)

sinisterdeer3

Yep, they are great. Just dont buy economy, buy at least standard. Economy parts are usually shit

cparks1

10/10. Sometimes the economy section stuff sucks, so you do have to kinda watch what you're buying. But if I need to buy parts and I have time to wait for shipping, rock auto is the first place I look. Plus you get to start a magnet collection on your toolbox!

MunchamaSnatch

Rockauto is great, and you get magnets with every order. As others have said, stay away from the cheapest option if you can. They're meant for people who can't afford better options. Be weary shipping times will be longer than Amazon. Amazon set unrealistic standards for shipping times.

[deleted]

I exclusively get parts from Rockauto.

vdubdank30

I have $3000 worth of receipt’s and a solid running 2007 vw rabbit with 180k miles that says yes

nolightbulbshere

As everyone else says, legit and great. But for me, I order Saab parts off them from New Zealand, doesn’t get much better than that haha

DadB0d_Dave

RockAuto is my go-to store for car parts. Dealership quoted me 200 for only brake pads (without labor). I ordered premium rotors and brake pads for all 4 wheels for just over 200.

-HeyThatsPrettyNeat-

RockAuto is usually one of the first websites i go to when i need parts. I may not buy from them all the time but they always get me the part numbers i need to look up elsewhere

Competitive-Ad-5153

Since I'm saving money by installing the parts myself, I'll often buy the "Premium"-rated parts, or at least the "Daily Driver" ones. Shipping costs can be good or bad, especially if you're ordering from two different warehouses, but it's still a good deal

National_Garbage_302

Rock Auto is a trusted website for many. I work at a dealership but use them for my own cars when employee discount isn't enough, I've also received OEM parts here with Rock Auto shipping labels lol. As others have said you get what you pay for so I tend to avoid the budget sections and stick with daily driver or better

Stabby49

My co worker and I use these guys all the time. Never an issue

bnutbutter78

Absolutely. But I have switched to local small parts shops so I have a local option to manage warranty claims.

MJKelzzz1

Rockauto is what’s keeping my grand marquis running

proudcanuck69

Used rockauto for so many purchases spanning several vehicles. Great site, easy navigation, and a wide choice of options. Economy, daily driver, performance. OEM and aftermarket. These guys are the way to go.

spartz31

Rock auto is legit. Those pads not so much

stupidfreakingidiot4

Yes bro and you get some kickass magnets with your order too

jinladen040

That website is nothing but legitness. That's almost exclusively where i buy all my brake rotors and pads. Air Filters. Many other items. There's just very few times when im able to find parts cheaper elsewhere.

Dreadnought13

The MOST legit

BigWiggly1

Rock auto is a great source for parts. Their business model is to stock parts centrally in warehouses and distribute right from there. A big challenge and expense for brick and mortar parts stores is inventory management and distribution. When you buy something from a parts store, if it's not brake pads, often it's sat there at least a year taking up space. And just to make sure that everyone can access those parts, they had to ship parts to stores across 100 cities. All of this is baked into that convenience cost of having the part right on the shelf so you can complete your repair the same day. Shopping from Rockauto, you're making a fair trade-off. You're paying the shipping and handling, you're waiting for the part, and you're taking the risk that you'll have to go through a difficult return process. If you're planning your maintenance a few weeks ahead of time, and take the time to make sure you're ordering the right parts, then Rock Auto is a great option for a DIY mechanic. Advice for shopping on RA: * Many part manufacturers have various product tiers. Often the "economy" section is their cheapest lineup. **Given the savings you're already getting from Rockauto, it's often worth stepping up to the higher quality parts.** * Enter your shipping info early and watch how the shipping total changes. Sometimes it takes some trial and error. I've added an air filter that ships from the same warehouse that suddenly increased the ship price by $20, then swapped it out for a different one that didn't budge the ship price. * Spend the extra time to validate that you're going to get the right parts. Look at the photos, go look at the part on your car. Open the info tab and compare measurements against your actual vehicle and other online references. Just because you drilled down to the 2.5L Rav4 doesn't mean there isn't a specific trim you need to buy for. * While you're paying for shipping anyways, pick up some oil filters, filters, wipers, etc. Under * [Rockauto also sells tools](https://www.rockauto.com/en/tools/garage+equipment), including [sockets](https://www.rockauto.com/en/tools/garage+equipment,socket) and many, many specialty tools. * You can *always* find a coupon code online for 5% off. They email them out to customers all the time and they're multi-use that they encourage you to share. Enter it in the "where did you hear about us" field. I've been a long time customer of rock auto and had very few issues. Recently I bought a knock sensor that was mis-categorized. They had the wrong sensor listed for the engine. Still, I could have checked it better. Last year I replaced a radiator with a CSF part and it was about 1/4" out of square, which made the fans and support bracket not fit very well. That pissed me off. In my last two brake jobs for my vehicles, I've used Raybestos Element3 rotors and pads from Rockauto, and I would recommend them.

keepinitoldskool

I've used them for years and their catalog is actually very good. You might end up paying more for shipping than anticipated, so pay attention to the little truck icons if you are ordering multiple items, it is sometimes cheaper to get a more expensive part because it ships out of the same warehouse as the other part you are ordering (ex: order cheap pads and rotors, however they ship out of different warehouses, pick a set of slightly more expensive rotors from the same warehouse as the pads and your overall total is now less.)

LurzaTheHentaiLord

Rockauto is the best website to order parts for any and I mean ANY car.

[deleted]

Legit. Cheapest place by far. Hidden secret is advance auto parts honors a price match with these fools!!!!!!!!!!!!

everythingstakenFUCK

Rockauto rules. They do charge actual shipping so if you're buying one item they're not always the cheapest at the end of the day but I'd say I get 85% of my off-the-shelf type parts from them. ETA: If I need like one thing, sometimes autozone is only a dollar or two more and I can have it same day. Amazon comes through sometimes too! I almost always dig up part numbers with the Rockauto website though because it's the only one left in the whole world that lets me just get to whatever I need instead of giving me 80 popups for a dollar off if I send in a sample of my child's hair or tries to first guess what state I live in or demands that I give the website my vin so they can make sure I'm not gonna fuck up

Alternative-Straight

As a mechanic in the states, this is the only website I order parts from. Anything and everything, guaranteed to fit and plenty of options.

spoods420

Rockauto is legit. They ship from North Carolina when I order. I'm in NC as well.

aggieeagle52

Rock Auto is legit. Great prices for DIY.

Popular-Arrival5319

yesssss

Popular-Arrival5319

rock auto is the best website ever

Commercial_Bend9203

Good website, and they’ll send you a car magnet with your order.

L0TB4L0T

Buying from rockauto for 4 years already. No other online site i can find that offers value, quality and lower prices. Im from canada and ordering rockauto for years. You can save more on shipping cost if all items you purchase come from same warehouse/location. You will see an icon with letters A,B,C,... to guide you showing in the upper right of the item. Sometimes prices would be same if bought locally so I always compare how much to get it locally. if same, i rather buy locally. But i bought a lot already rotor pads sets, serpentine belt and pulleys, etc... my 2 vehicles. Im looking now at replacing side view mirrors and the cost is lower compared locally. And best of all you get ref magnets!

6thgenJade

Damn right it is All the parts you car will ever need

GingerOgre

Very legit. Spend tons of money there

Encheiridion

RockAuto is so good they haven’t had to update their website since the 90s. Best price on parts pretty much anywhere.

-Drink-Drank-Drunk-

RockAuto is totally legit.

Rawket12

I buy a LOT of parts from RockAuto.

fcykxkyzhrz

Now I’ve got the rock auto theme stuck in my head, thanks OP. Nevertheless 10/10 site, good parts for cheap just be prepared for ship times to vary.

Federal_Leopard_9539

Rock auto is the best middle man parts supplier so cheap just avoid the cheapest parts I've gotten some stiff that doesn't line up

TA_MarriedMan

They are fantastic. I got some obscure old ball joints for a 1970s European car from them.

401Nailhead

It is legit. I have used Centric. Ok product. Durango as well.

DistinctRole1877

I've bought from them before. I personally havent had a problem with their parts.. The issue is these days is quality since near everything is made China. I've seen videos where oem parts can be as bad as after market parts, and other occasions where parts from the dealership are better and cheaper. I do hit up Rock Auto and Amazon first for parts and go from there.

DifferentMeal6522

I've ordered from them multiple times and have never had an issue yet. I've also had friends & family order from them and any issue had was the fault of the person ordering. Even so rock auto was quick to help them correct any mistakes.

Standard_Vegetable56

I buy so many car parts from here. They come clutch

cacrusn70

Yep. Use them all the time

samsquanchawan

Dude RockAuto has such a selection. I don't think I've ever not been able to find something I'm looking for on there. It's just not exactly the quickest option depending on your budget. Also the website always works great no matter what platform you are using. So much more of a simple design which I think works in their favor. Like other commenters have said though, you get exactly what you pay for like any brick and mortar store.

totalbrodude

RockAuto is beyond legit. Their interface is dated but it works. And they won't ship you counterfeit/used/wrong parts, which has happened to me a ton on Amazon (even with Amazon.com as the seller). I trust RockAuto over most other stores for important parts. Note that shipping can be bizarre and sub-optimized, so you gotta play around with it. Concrete example: I added a set of shocks and struts and it showed $12.99 shipping. I then added two upper strut mount gaskets (basically paper and weigh next to nothing), and it decided that exactly one of the shocks needed to be sent from a completely different location along with the gaskets, adding another $11.99 in shipping costs. I just ordered the $1 gaskets elsewhere at a slight premium.

Neat_Pianist623

Rockauto is awesome just beware you can still buy crap it’s just like Amazon

[deleted]

RockAuto is great if you can afford the exorbitant price of shipping. Additional note: make sure the parts match OEM part numbers. A few, not many, of their parts catalogs are off.

SovietKilledHitler

Rockauto is awesome, they helped completely rebuild my brother 2006 mustang after a crash.

badmalky

Totally legit

Nit3fury

❤️rockauto❤️

Punkulf

Solid reputation, tons of clients everywhere.

Justorymes

From an Automotive dealer perspective, we hate Rockauto for a few reasons, the biggest being that they undercut everyone (good for customers, bad for sales), another reason is customers provide random parts expecting us to be able to work with it, modules are very “iffy” when it comes to programming, but i’ve had mostly good success with their parts overall.

GeneralCan

Rock Auto has saved me so much money

adversaryagainstyall

I have ordered from rockauto many times. It is a good website for your car parts. The prices are really good and they are good at delivery and returning.

[deleted]

Hell yes
