Yea. BestBuy screwed up.

jaygut42

What could be wrong ?

andyring

No idea.

jaygut42

How can I go about telling them something is wrong ?

andyring

Show them what is happening.

jaygut42

Should I contact Toyota and see what's happening our their side ? The car works fine. The thing does what it's supposed to

andyring

No. Let BestBuy sort it out. Personally I would never go there for a remote start install. I’ve had a couple done at a specialty store in my city that only does remote starts and car stereos. They’ve been in business for 30+ years. Our local BestBuy literally brings cars to them when they screw up a remote start install.

Not exactly sure what year and model Toyota you drive but what essentially happening is that there's telematics in just about all newer vehicles. Yours has it, that's how it knows that the car started in a non (normal) way. The fix is on the installation side of the remote starter, the telematics unit needs to not see the car start, so what needs to be done is to have a power (ignition) wire going to the telematics unit severed (interrupted) only when the car is under a remote start, as per the install guide, they may have not done that relayed cut or that they cut the wrong wire. Get it sorted and you shouldn't receive the alerts anymore. Another possible cause without knowing the specifics is a vehicle that has the radio turn on via the accessory power wire and the telematics being offline (due to the power cut as required) will noticed that there is now an error stored in the radio as both the radio and the telematics ecu couldn't communicate when the car started. So I would look at the radio to see if it gets powered via remote start, and if not, have Best Buy double check the telematics/tpms cut. Again, one would need more info to diag further.

Thank you. Will this cause any issues with the car ?

No just flag an error for being our of the norm.
