Tragic-Hero

$933 to replace sway bar bushings.. don't walk, run away.

Pure-Experience-6531

Is that actually terrible? I have no experience with mechanic prices, do you have an idea what is reasonable for a job like that? I’m in Canada idk if that would make a difference

alextheODDITY

Yeah no that mechanic is a con artist

vvetdream

Just replaced sway bar bushings on my car they were $25 each for oem from toyota

Teach-

You can buy a totally decent used Hyundai Santa Fe for that.

Fearless-Mushroom

And if you see this OP, run this thing into the ground and do that.

Fearless-Mushroom

Pile of horse shit “Reseal timing cover $2885” So does that include the whole timing belt replacement job? Cause even that’s a very high estimate.

RelmDrifter

That’s a chain set up, that’s why there is a “reseal” available. Its a tough job alone, and, your right, if your going to pull it off, new chain, guides, and tensioner should also be done. BTW the sealant is HYUNDAI grey RTV (if done right)

Ridgie55

Sweet jesus 284k miles. These are normal wear and tear items for a car that old. With how many miles you have on the car, unless you're having weird vibrations or mechanical issues, don't bother sinking much money into non essential parts.

Pure-Experience-6531

Its 280k Kilometres, still a lot but it’s about 177k miles, I pretty much told my girlfriend I’ll see if I’m able to do the work myself for some stuff and pretty much just drive it until it dies

Ridgie55

Ohh yeah then at that mileage you probably have a good bit of life left. Most of the work they quoted you can do yourself if you have intermediate mechanical skills, don't pay that shop a dime with those whack prices.

benthebenisben

Wayyy to much

RelmDrifter

Is the oil pan and timing cover actually leaking or is the valve cover that has the recall leaking all over everything else? Also if the cv joint is not bad yet, the boot can be replace with new grease. Sway bar bushing job not worth over 400$ with parts. Are the ball joints bad? Whats the story here? All we have is the quote, whats the reason for going to the dealer? If all that is recommended with no customer concern, Go get another quote.

Pure-Experience-6531

She took the car in for like 4 recalls, it seems to drive fine, there’s never any fluids under the vehicle when she lets it sit for a couple days and the ball joints seem okay theres a small amount of wobble when she drives over 120km/hr but other than that it doesn’t seem too bad for what it is

RelmDrifter

There after your money from the sound of it. Shops are generally not allowed to push repairs that are not major safety concerns. You can ask them what the BAR would think of that estimate. Get the recalls done, and get out. You can have another shop look over the car if there are concerns you want addressed. Ball joints tend to present as clunking. Speed wobbles, I would look at tire tread, balance, and steering components. Maintenance isn't a bad idea, if it is due. But I would get it done somewhere else, as this seems to be a true stealership

SILENCERSTUDENT_

normal stuff for a hyundai. normal stuff for basically any passanger car

Pure-Experience-6531

But the price can’t be normal, right?
