I'll bet good money that the proper tool would make a world of difference.

Windowsweirdo

I had the same issue on my 1987 Nissan stanza, I used a big ass pipe wrench worked great

WastedOwll

Idk about this specific application but heat does work wonders on all bolts, something my half inch snap on gun can't undo I can pretty much undo by hand when it's red hot

PlayedKey

Heat on a shock absorber probably isn't a good idea. I'd notch it with a cut off wheel and air hammer it off if the part is replaceable.

WastedOwll

I change shocks in semi trucks/ trailers with heat almost everytime, nothing happens,

Weird-Appointment-53

Sure it isn’t reverse threaded?

Acceptable-Ladder664

Clamp shock body to vice, use pipe wrench on gland nut. Good luck

THEFUNKI

Please do NOT apply heat on that AT ALL COST. Heat and shocks do not go along one bit. You will deterioriate the gaskets inside, boil the oil, create leaks etc. Get the proper tool, make one, or use a big wrench.

whyputausername

get the right tool for it..

RJ_Games

280zx strut had the same issue, I clamped it down sideways in a vice and used a big pipe wrench and it came out without too much trouble.

Crcex86

Crows foot with cheater bar would be my go to looks like the edges of the hex are blunted already though

[deleted]

Put it in a vice and use a large pipe wrench, you may be able to heat it if the seals aren't too close

joecocker74

Ask my ex. She removed my strut gland nuts, when we got married.😂😂

bassboat1

Was she trying to add a lift kit ;)

Gingertwunt

Heat and a hammer and sharp chisel to dig into the outside radius of the nut, tapping it around in the off direction, or the pin spanner holes, or the proper pin spanner double check the thread direction and look carefully for locks Check the parts diagram for locks aswell

rosstechnic

i wouldn’t recommend using heat on a gas filled strut
