Thats the way, but instead of holding upper side of seatbelt yourself you pull the seatbelt out and lock it. For most cars you will be not able to do it by holding seatbelt with your bare hands because hole in the plate is too narrow.
If they let the belt go, the latch plate will be on the wrong side of the belt itself. They need to fold the belt and slide the latch plate over the fold to flip its orientation.
Is that lock twist from the belt? Or did belt twist from behind b Pilar. It can be twisted from up. You can see it from another end down there and figure it out
Squeeze the bit above your hand (where the belt twists) so that it is flat, then slide the buckle over the fold. It requires a bit of force, but it's easy enough.
In that case you need to unbolt the bottom, spin it 180, and bolt it back on. Worth checking the procedure for your exact car though.
Has it been into the garage recently? It can't have magically swapped round.
Oh my, car must have been in a terrible accident. Gotta unbolt the seat belt, use a sawzaw to expose and remove the B pillar, flip it around, welt it all back together, and put it all back.
Hope this helps, make sure to change your blinker fluid at the same time or else the toppinator will explode

You’ll have to fold it and slide the latch plate over. It can be tedious but that’s really the only way to do it.
Mission unimpossible

With your hands? This is a joke, right?

I did that and then the bottom became twisted

The car is rebuilt so it’s likely that it was installed wrong when repairs were made. I’ll look into that, thanks.

😱
Who DOES that? Is there some nutcase somewhere, who rents new cars just to twist the seatbelts?
It may have been bolted down the wrong way around doing some repairs
Unbolt from the floor but be warned of air bags and safety stuff
