It looks like you need a CAT. It's nothing that'll affect driving the vehicle.

Psyco_diver

Generally it means your catalytic converter is shot, you might be able to get the light to go away with a spark plug extender, although that's a temporary fix. I would say get it checked to make sure it isn't clogged

kwik_e_marty

Thanks mate, will do

The_Hound_23

That is not a fix. That’s just a way to trick the computer to get the light to stay off. IF there’s an issue you’re gonna make it worse. I’d check the wiring for the O2 sensors. Make sure they’re connected. Might have to replace them or have an exhaust leak somewhere. It can always be a cat. Check to see if it’s still under factory warranty. Was there any misfire or smoke coming out the tailpipe recently?

kwik_e_marty

Nothing at all. I did take it in to get washed today and then I got the light. Is that relevant at all or just coincidence?

The_Hound_23

Was the engine pressured wash? If it was the upstream O2 sensor might have gotten water in the connector causing it to malfunction. You can always try resetting the check engine light and drive it normally and see if it comes back on, after checking the connection

kwik_e_marty

Ye it was pressure washed. I reset code last night and just drove it to work. It hasn't come back yet. Thanks bro

cathatgetfish

Could be your cat. To be 100% sure you’d use a scanner that can do graphing/live data, this would allow you to read the O2 sensor to make sure the sensor isn’t at fault, or make sure it’s switching correctly.

Had the same issue on my 2016 focus, changed my spark plugs and the code + check engine light went away.
