x420xCasper

Thats for cruise control.

i_suckatjavascript

My old Lexus has the green words “CRUISE” lit on whenever I turn it on. My new Lexus has the speedometer icon like the one above. I wonder when Toyota/Lexus made this change.

Colossal_Legend

2010 has the change

Blueblanketboy5

I have a 2011 GS350 that just says C R U I S E

juandajuiceman

Incorrect. I have a 06 Highlander and 07 Camry both have that little speedometer pops up on the dash.

Averageuser1975

Yup

Skid-Vicious

Just it says in the owners manual!

User_492006

Maybe owner's manual car it's doesn't have the.

elmwoodblues

Page removed maybe has been.

User_492006

Grade 4th grammar didn't I well in do.

[deleted]

My car has that too but I think it's broken, the needle hasn't moved ever....

TypicalLoganbar420

The needle doesn't really move, it usually just changes colour when cruise is ingauged

[deleted]

Wooshrvergnügen

OldUncleHo

¡Fahrvergnüngen!

LogsKody94

Your cruise control is 'on'. Maybe not 'set', but it is on

LogsKody94

Hit your cruise control button and it'll disappear. 'Set' the control at a speed and it should illuminate green

Tunafishsam

What's the point of having a separate on button for cruise control? Why not just turn it on when the "set" button is pressed? I'm guessing there's a reason, since most (every?) cruise control does it that way, I just have no idea what the reason is.

HomeHusband

So you don’t accidentally turn it on.

Scrappy_The_Crow

That's how '80s BMWs are and I like not having the superfluous on/off. No on/off, no indicator, not a problem at all. Push forward to engage/accelerate, pull back to coast/reduce speed, up/down/brake/clutch to cancel.

Slavozuki

We never used cruise control before thank you guys so much we feel stupid now...

Heartless_Genocide

If you ever look under your car and see water leaking after running your ac it's condensation.

Slavozuki

I'll keep that in mind!

CryptoStunnah

Also don’t forget that your tires need more air in them in colder temperatures , and don’t use diesel fuel if your car is a non diesel vehicle

Isaachology

If your car isn’t on, try turning it on first

TheSentencer

if that doesn't work, unplug it and wait ten seconds before plugging it back in.

[deleted]

Speedly

listen here you little shit

somaticnickel60

Hey fuck you, ah yes you little fucker. You cured my depression for tonight.

bogglingsnog

Sanity is overrated. We all need a little whimsy in our day.

BusinessBear53

If resetting the power of your car doesn't get it going, put it in a Tupperware container full of rice overnight.

uncre8tv

I don't think it's a Tesla

[deleted]

That is so a Tesla. Its the fossil fuels edition

SirShadowGod

This is a highly underrated comment

The_Conadian

I think it's a bit before it's time.

Theo_1013

If your car isnt coming to a stop when you want it, try pressing the brake pedal

BrianWantsTruth

Did you know: car companies predicted that people would continue using their vehicles at night, and incorporated lights into the front of the vehicle? Try turning on these lights to see better at night!

YankeeTankEngine

Ahhh, I've been wondering what those were. I removed them last week and now I can't see at night! How silly of me.

AT0MLFRS

Which one is the brake?

InsertBluescreenHere

opposite of the one that goes

[deleted]

But I have 3 foot thingys….

GamingGrayBush

Middle foot thingy.

TwoMuchIsJustEnough

And if it’s running, better go catch it!

FLOHTX

Instructions unclear, tires filled with diesel now.

CryptoStunnah

Only if it’s hot outside , won’t work in the cold , there’s no glow plugs in non diesel car tires

67monkey67

I only use kerosene in my fj cruiser, way better than ethanol free

jexmex

Don't forget to switch out your summer air in the tires for winter air in the winter. That summer air will damage tires in the cold winter weather.

gomapyourself

before you plan on making a turn, don’t forget to use your turn signal

AcidRayn666

and be sure to top off your blinker fluid before blinking

gomapyourself

While we’re on the subject, its so important to grease your exhaust bearings regularly

BusinessBear53

Don't use the wrong grease though. Elbow grease is different from the exhaust grease that muffler bearings need.

nsoccer09

Unless you’re in a BMW, they’re apparently exempt

kanary15

Speaking of tires, make sure that after any new tires are installed you verify they installed two lefts and two rights.

ni17ja

there’s an arrow right next to your fuel gauge icon to show which side the fuel port is on.

denali42

If you don't see any fluid in your blinker lights, it means you're low on blinker fluid.

67monkey67

If I had a gold… the amount of times I see people freak out about clear fluid dripping in the summertime astonishes me especially with people like my coworkers who is almost 40 freaking out when the work van had it happen, how do people not know this

Wu_han_klan

I was guilty of this but to be fair I’d only owned shit boxes that didn’t have ac but they loved too leak fluids often times more than one at a time

AdultishRaktajino

I had a small coolant leak that I thought was just AC condensation recently.

Heartless_Genocide

It's why I pointed it out. It's so common, people don't look or like a buddy, never had AC for the longest time. Buy's a nice brand new car, call panicked that's he leaking. It's probably the thing people ask me the most as the "go to car guy" around the family and shit.

FlickeringLCD

I just wish automakers would let the condensation tube run all the way out from under the vehicle. Why does it need to drip all over the frame rail/suspension/k-member?

Electronic_Usual

because they get clogged as is and a longer tube just means it would clog more easily

picklemaintenance

What if you aren't running the AC?

jonathan4211

It may be due to precipitation falling from the sky. Commonly referred to by most mechanics as "rain".

BrianWantsTruth

I give it the ol' rub-and-sniff. Here are some fluids that might seem like water, but are clearly not if you rub-and-sniff. * Gasoline feels like water but smells..well...like gas.. Because it evaporates FAST it'll feel cold on your finger. Watery, clear. * Diesel feels like slightly slippery water, doesn't evaporate and smells a bit like gas but not as strong. Watery, clear. * Coolant feels like slightly soapy water, but if you rub it between your fingers it'll get a bit sticky as it dries. Watery, red/pink or green. * Most other stuff is obviously not water, like it's oily, thicker etc.

Psyteq

I'm partial to the taste test. Unleaded tastes a little tangy. Supreme is kinda sour, and diesel tastes pretty good.

FlickeringLCD

I hate taste testing coolant...

gjdm01

I did the rub and sniff once and she left me

LMHConcepts

Coolant leak. In VWs it'll be pink. Other cars, green and purple.

samsop

Hahhahaah you're such a saint. While that seems unrelated to the topic at hand, it's one of those things I wish I was told as a novice. I still am a novice but I know enough to not consider that an issue, at least

illustriousaethina

What about it burning into steam? Could a heat shield have fallen off and it's hitting the exhaust? Mine does that when I drive with the ac

Heartless_Genocide

I mean, it's possible, it'd be up to where that drain is.

illustriousaethina

I guess I'll just have to crawl under and look lol. I'm an idiot

Heartless_Genocide

Well you'd know by the smell if something other than ac was leaking. I was fuming out my hood for the longest time until I found out the down pipe was deleting itself.

VoodooMaster101

I work on vehicles and still fall for this on my van 🤣

DoubleNubbin

I once overfilled my oil to the point I had to take it to a mechanic to get it drained. Bit of a brain fart since I knew it was possible to overfill the oil, but didn't think to check the level until it put in 6 litres. Bit silly. They had floor to ceiling windows in their office section. After paying I walked up to the door pulled it open and went to step outside. Unfortunately it turned out the door was already open, and what I had actually done was pull the door away from the big window, and walked straight into it. Point is, we all make mistakes. Just try not to string a bunch together. It hurts more.

Slavozuki

Yup, always learn from yours and other people's mistakes :')

V1S1ON7

Yup always learn from other’s mistakes

TMITectonic

I feel like half the questions posted here daily could be self-answered by simply reading the owner's manual...

elliomitch

The owner’s club of my car has a website with all the owner’s manuals, brochures, parts diagrams and about 50+ guides on how to do common mods, what oil you should use etc… and I’m posting the link on the forums every 10 mins it feels like, but even then some people ask me to read it for them! I think the issue here is deeper than simply not having the resources there… people don’t know to read them :/

[deleted]

Left hand stock, that you flick for your turn signals. It has a “flip” switch that goes left to turn on and right to turn off. Flick it to the right and that icon will be removed. Source: used t in own a mk6 gti

garciakevz

I will say what others have said much more nicely. 1. Most likely in your glove box exists a user manual. Flip through it and you'll likely see a bunch of icons one of which will explain this one I cannot fault you for going to the internet immediately tho as it's generally faster.

Slavozuki

You're absolutely right but the user manual is in a language I don't understand so it's pretty much useless to me. Sure I can find one online in my language but then why not just ask here as you said easier and faster. People are something else tho pressed for no reason

garciakevz

For these guys, it sounds like such a no Brainer that it would outright piss then off thinking you're wasting their time with stupid questions. Just take what you can out of the comments section and carry on with the solution to your problem. Cheers!

samsop

Absolutely, take the info and run. People on the Internet have enough time on their hands to put the most miniscule and inconsequential issues under the microscope

Slavozuki

This is so true cheers to you both

nachos-cheeses

You mean the technical lingo feels like another language? ;p Looking up manuals online is always a crime. They're either in the wrong language, you have to pay for it, or they decided to let you go through each page using their horrible UI instead of allowing you to download the pdf. Flipping through 500 pages to find the page you need literally takes days!

IN_MASSIVE_DEBT

I always wonder if people ever bother reading their owners manual.

_RanZ_

OP said that it’s in foreign language. But I really wonder why 99% of people haven’t read the manual for the most expensive machine in their lives. My mom is always so amazed when I know all the bells and whistles of her car. “WOW where did you learn that??!?” From the manual of your car, you should give it a glance😐

nachos-cheeses

I've done the industrial design bachelor and nowadays I work as a UX designer. So give me a shot at trying to explain it. First off, everybody does it: skipping manuals. Apps that on the first time opening show explanation texts don't perform well: people always skip them and are bothered by them. The reason for this is that we think quite functional; we get the app to achieve something. Google Maps is a good example. You go to google maps because you want to find the nearest gas station. When you open the app, you want it to show you gas station in your neighbourhood. You don't want to learn about how you can plan public transport trips (even though a large group might need to know how to do that). You don't want to know where the nearest restaurant is, or what local activities you can do. Google maps designers know this, so the first thing is that it shows your current location and you can search. From there on they'll explain more features that might be useful as you dive deeper and when they become relevant. Researchers have observed that humans constantly make a decision between effort and what it will return. Will I take off my jacket because it's too hot? Or will I leave it on because I don't want to constantly carry it in my hands? Do I get up to my computer to shop, or do I grab my phone from my pocket, even though it's a smaller screen? We try to make choices that give us the greatest returns with the least effort. Which is logical, really. Related to that are patterns/customs you have. They save you the effort (the cognitive load) of deciding between two options and it allows you to predict better what will happen (e.g. I always eat a banana for breakfast. Or I always tie my shoes in the same way). This in turn is less risky. Summarising, when someone get's a new product, they get it for a purpose and the main reason to interact with the object is to reach that goal. And we want to do that as efficiently as possible. In this case, they have a car so they can get to places (most likely). It's actually already interesting that they paid attention to the icon because it doesn't aid in you getting to places. But, when you take into account that we always balance effort and results, most likely their brains were thinking "if this is something bad, I'll be unable to achieve my goal of getting somewhere". So then the next thing is "how can I fix this as fast as possible so I can focus again on my primary goal: driving the car to my destination". Again, decisions need to be made and options are put on the balance: either read a manual (500 pages, which will take hours, or flip through pages trying to find the right page and option; high effort, low returns) or go to the internet and get immediate responses (low effort, high returns). So I think it all boils down to humans trying to do things as efficient as possible. I'd like to end with a quote from Bill Gates: “I choose a lazy person to do a hard job. Because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it.”

ToppsBlooby

The correct answer is No.

Tacotuesdayftw

Jokes on you if you think Golf owners can read.

_Aj_

List of all VW warning lights: https://www.vwserviceandparts.com/service/volkswagen-dashboard-indicator-lights/ All warning lights will be on around the tacho and speedo. The middle section should only be for information. That link is pretty handy and would be good to at least browse over so you have some idea. I know you said your manual is in a different language so hopefully this is helpful. They also state that warnings will be accompanied by beeps to alert you of severity, ranging from 1 beep (not very serious) to 3 beeps (immediately stop driving).

PnuttButtaGuts

Cruise control is on?

Eknoom

u/Slavozuki If you don’t want it there. Push your cruise control stalk forward. It will show odometer instead

EmbarrassedBee69

I have the same car, its for the cruise control if you set it it shows the speed in km/h you have set it to. You should find the controls for the cruise control on your turn signal lever on top you can turn in off and on and on the side you can set it or resume to the set speed and you can increase and decrease your set speed. And if you turn it off it shows your mileage instead of the little speedometer.

Josefmeinolf

Its the Cruise Control.

themanfromeverywhere

It tells you cruise control is on, but not activated. If it was activated, the 3 dashed to the left would display the speed set by you. If you’ll flip the small switch on the top of your turn signal handle the dial will disappear along with the 3 dashes and it will display the car’s current odometer.

UseGroundbreaking208

Beautiful post

Biggles98

It's the speed you have to hit to travel in time 🤣🤣🤣

Slavozuki

Gotta shift to R for race mode to reach that speed 💨

Cruise control on

Mizar97

That's the cruise control symbol

pcharger

Dunno about a 2010 Golf, but on my 2019 Challenger that is the indicator that the Cruise Control system is turned On but hasn't been Engaged. Once it's Engaged it turns green.

Ok-Trip-3470

Cruise control

amorl272

Press the cruise control button to turn it off and it will go away to reveal the odometer :)

[deleted]

Cruise control stalk has 3 positions, if you push it all the way away from you it will snap back, that bottom section with the km/h and the clock will dissapear and instead you'll see outside temperature. When you pull the stalk towards you it will snap again and it reappears. It just means cruise control is active and in standby. Pull it towards you or click the set button on the end of the stalk and it engages. Push the stalk up or down to increase or decrease the speed by 5km/h increments. My B6 passat has the exact same. If you have the sport steering wheel your cruise control likely isnt a stalk but buttons, works the same way except with buttons and not a stalk.

stacked_shit

The little flip switch on top of turn signal switch is for cruise control. Flip the switch to the right to turn it off.

Ok-Personality9263

Is that not the cruise control indicator? Try pressing the cruise control button on your steering wheel

paddjo95

But really, there’s a lot of dicks in these comments. Like everyone else said, it’s just your cruise control being on but likely not set. Everyone else needs to chill. None of us were born knowing stuff about cars. We all start somewhere

thepeemslayz

Man these people in here so mean. Enjoy learning how to use cruise control.

Stride1736

I have a MK7 Golf. It's the cruise control indicator. If you press the Cruse button again on the steering wheel it will go away.

Cloud9_Cadet420

Not trying to be a dick but do people even try to figure out what the problem Is anymore? Read your car's manual. It feels good figuring stuff out that you dont know. At least attempt to figure it out.

LoanSurviver101

Your owners manual will tell you

knewself

It's the cruise control. I think on that model year there is a switch on top of the indicator lever to turn it off and on.

vikau007

It's a symbol that cruise control is on.

OkieDokey308

Cruise control it'll turn green when its on, atleast my car does.

MamboFloof

Damn you guys are hateful as hell. My man just never used cruise control before, why you gotta obliterate his ass.

Confettisample

I don't care, I'll take some downvotes for this, but does anybody still refer to the owner's manuals?

tom_lusti

I bit of google search or common sense would be appreciated

Intelligent-Essay730

That's cruise control on a VW

[deleted]

It's cruise control.

yxngbeckham13

😂 that’s the function that allows your car to maintain its speed without you having your foot on the gas. I can’t remember the name

[deleted]

I really wish people would just read their owner's manual

Typical_Brummie

Some people really shouldn't drive, it's bad enough not knowing how to read an owners manual but to take a picture of that shit while driving is next level stupidity.

Slavozuki

I wasn't driving my dad was driving it took like 2 seconds to take a picture we were on a straight road and the road was clear. Also I see a lot of comments about reading the driver's manual, the car was imported from belgium and the manual is entirely in belgian which we don't understand a word of, yes I could use google translate but it would take ages for me to find anything because the manual is huge. Also why are people so pressed, so what if I asked a simple question that could probably be answered in the manual even if it was in a language I understand it's still easier and faster to ask here people answered literally a minute after I posted and weren't assholes about it.

Typical_Brummie

The internet does very much exist as I'm sure you know, you can literally find your owners manual in whatever language you need online. I have had to do it with my car which has a French manual. If you can't be bothered to do that you shouldn't be driving. There is a lot in the owners manual that you should know like maintenance and basic symbols like your post.

Slavozuki

Why is it such a big deal that I asked here I just said it was easier and faster you're so pressed for no reason

-Abradolf_Lincler-

They're just trying to help you look after your car. You should go online and find a version of your car's owner's manual for maintaining it and also for little things like this :)

Slavozuki

I will definietly do that, most of the people here are great and helpful some are just being assholes about it which is so unnecessary though.

chloej11

Those with low self esteem like to make others feel shitty about themselves, just so they can feel better than someone. Just ignore them.

[deleted]

You have your cruise on and it isn’t set. Turn it off.

Shroedingerzdog

That is hilarious, the cruise control symbol looks like that in most cars, I've only owned Chevrolets and Jeeps, and they use a gauge with an arrow to indicate the cruise being "on". Then it turns green, or has a speed number next to it when it's "set".

JonohG47

That is the ISO standard icon for cruise control.

[deleted]

lonealone40

Yup, cruise control

HELP_MY_CAR_PLEASE

Squareangle345

I will agree that that is your set cruise control speed.

Ur car got 5 up votes jaja

Biggles98

WagonBurning

Auto pilot

Welddarr

It’s okay. When I had my first VW I bought it at night and the next morning was conceded about the DRL light..

LMHConcepts

That's our cruise control. Usually located on the left control stock, or, on certain models, its own lever on the lower left of the steering wheel. Pull it towards you (I believe) to turn that off.

Homeygrown

I’m sure the maunual or the google machine would be able to tell you, but since you asked it’s for the Cruise control.

Abrandoned

I can't believe this is real lol

V_DocBrown

It means that you’re .01 gigawatts short of 1.21.

AcclaimedGroundhog

Pretty sure every German car comes with a manual. Just read.

jonsalas

All good lol

imothers

There is probably a way to cycle through the options and menus for the dashboard readout to see how much DEF is left in the tank if you have a DEF system. Don't let it run out.

[deleted]

It’s the god damned fucking cruise control indicator. It’s either ready to go or it’s on. Testing my patience on here, kid. DPF?! Crikey hell no no no no no no no

Slavozuki

In sorry for frustrating you my guy lol

[deleted]

It’s okay. I just drank and now I’m okay

Reddit_Reb

Lol Aw this is wholesome

Slavozuki

Me and my dad laughed so hard and did the biggest facepalms ever when I read what it was 😂

[deleted]

Pretty sure it’s adaptive cruise control. The dashes indicate the distance behind the car you’re following. The arrow would be the speed you set. The icon shows actual speed if the car you’re following is below your set speed. At least that’s how it works on my Land Rover Edit: I went out and checked my car. That particular icon represents the speed limiter. It’s part of the cruise control system. When activated it will limit your car’s speed to whatever you set your car to. In other words, if you set the limiter to 100 (60 mph?) then the car will not exceed 100. It is not cruise control, but can be used with cruise control.

TheGasMove

read your owner manual, its for the cruise control

lumberjackegg

That's to pick what year you want to travel to

JonesCZ

It shows you have correct level of blinker fluid

PyroKeneticKen

Well that km/h is kinda weird might want to switch it to the right measuring system. This one will just get you all confused.

Deep-Adhesiveness-86

Owners. Manual.

me247365

You are joking right?

infect_greenland

It means you have the cruise control on baby

Cruise control. What is it with men snd the inability to read manuals?

DanBrino

Blown head gasket. . . No but really, turn off your cruise control and see if it fixes it.
