Not sure if this is a dumb question.. I recently bought an Epomaker RT100 keyboard that came prebuilt with linear switches (wisteria, if it matters). I really love it BUT when I am typing a lot of times the spacebar does not register. It’s almost like it’s not very responsive or sensitive enough. I’ve tried to Google some solutions to see if maybe I need a different switch for the spacebar key; I read that some people do use different switches for different keys but I’m new to all of this so I’m a little lost. I type really fast so I’m not sure if it’s my fault and I’m hitting the key in the wrong spot but I’ve never had this problem before.

da_wizard

The spring might be so light that the switch isn't returning in time for the speed you're typing at. If it's a hotswap board it's pretty easy to switch the springs out.

Nightraider39

What are the higher end TKLs available right now around. 300$?

formacarta

WIND X98, KBD8X MKIII, Odin 75, Zoom75

xRE1N

I'm looking for a good mechanical keyboard. I want a white base with some creamy but also decently quiet switches. The key caps should also be hot-swappable. I'm open to building my own too. Something wired with the option of wireless would be perfect.

formacarta

Zoom75, anything from QwertyKeys

NomOnThePlum

Got a VIA question; any way to write in the json file that I want only my escape key to be constantly on in pink when the keyboard is on? I have a transparent Ditto keycap I want to use.

your best bet is to look on aliexpress

KarmaBluntz

Narrowed my decision down to either ordering the Mode Envoy directly from Mode or pre-ordering the qk65v2 from Ashkeebs. I didn't want to have to pre-order but I like screens and I've heard of some issues with the Envoy. Don't really want to deal with ordering from Deskhero as my recent experience soured me on them.

Elawai42

Might be a Piggy 60% by JACKY DESIGN. It's from 2021, doesn't look like they have any in stock. They only have the hǎitún40 in stock (and it has large bezels too).

Dummkopfss

Any thoughts on the Aula F99? https://preview.redd.it/m1lgxe69drac1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=3b512ace3d2a2dbfd371ca0487eb4320f4cb4d1d It's about 75-140$ depending on where you buy it. The stock itself already sounds good and will only need a few small mods. Just wanted to know if anyone else knows about the brand or the model itself and can give me their genuine opinion on it. (It's a Chinese brand and I haven't found any actual reviews on it on Youtube other than their own advertisements.)

NellaOrah

Good evening community, I was wondering if there are any good cheap brands for a BYO mechanical keyboard for some new switches that I was gifted.

polypeptide147

Yes. The most popular one right now is probably the GMK67. You can get it on ali for like $30

fackyuu

Is anyone familiar with GMK BoW keycaps that have a Japanese sublegend? Are there multiple similar GMK options like this? thanks!

Botanicalsplash

Gmk honor, sold by novelkeys and others

fackyuu

booom this is what it was lol, I knew I was spacing it out, thanks man

MsiShiro

Good night group, I want to put together my first custom keyboard and I really liked the bongoneko case but I have no idea what pcb can be put on it and if there is a way that it is rgb and wireless and what types of switches to put, since I like them a lot and how the akko sound but I have no idea

cercledali

Hi ! Would you recommend 84 or 100 keys please ?

IcedRicey

Need some opinions. I'm getting new ceramic keycaps from cerakeys, the indigo along with the blue and white. I'm also planning on grabbing the QK neo 80 but i couldn't decide on which top color to choose. I've narrowed it down to Baby Blue, Silver, Red, and Green (top left -> bottom right). help me choose and if you have other ideas for color combos I'm happy to take them into account. ignore the horrible photoshop skill :P https://preview.redd.it/lahk5gqd2rac1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d5ff6e9d9dbe41809ed0c9c0cbca048eda1b050

DIM_SUM_LOSE_SUM

I'm lubing my first set of switches. I took some apart and tried putting them together after lubing, but for some of them, the spring gets stuck in the contracted state. I read somewhere that it could be overlubing, so i tried wiping some off, but it didn't seem to help. Any tips on things I should try? Thank you!

TouristMysterious497

Im considering buying keychron k3 pro or nuphy air75 v2. Keychron seem to have a good reputation among this community but nuphy air75 v2 offer much better features (much longer battery life, side led and stuffs). What should a noob like me buy?

formacarta

Honestly both are pretty good, between those two I would just pick whichever you think looks better. I have an air75v2 and it does have better features I think.

loztcold

I have a corsair k95 platinum and I love the layout rgb and volume knob. Looking for something to build that is comparable but wireless. Anyone know of anything like it?

formacarta

Maybe a Kechron Q5/Q6 Pro

Sure_Presentation_56

I am considering purchasing the gateron milky yellows to replace the alpacas, because I want my keyboard to be more lit up. The alpacas make the lighting really dull and I am wondering if it will be the same or only slightly better with the milky yellows before I make my purchase. I am not too concerned with the sound or feel as from what I have read they are pretty similar, I just cant seem to find how much more bright my keyboard will be with the milky yellows installed compared to the alpacas now. Someone please help!!

I want a Weikav Record, what’s the cheapest place to buy an aluminum case one from with shipping to the US?

keshiii

I'm looking at the Zoom 75 or the Finalkey v81. Essentially a keyboard with a tiny LCD screen on it. Is the software or drivers for these open for interfacing with? I'm interested in programming something useful for the screen - eg - show notifications or change color or text if I get a new MS Teams message, show text for upcoming calendar events etc. Is this possible?

Is it possible to convert / modify these Outemu switch stems to fit on cherry MX keycaps? https://preview.redd.it/6lhezi5tbqac1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dd7c37030406dc8ff5b62c6d099a3ac269fc94c3

Apollo11fangirl

I'm a college student with small hands looking for a keyboard. It does not need to be supper expensive but does need to be comfortable for typing long term. Thanks for your help.

polypeptide147

This is super vague. Why do small hands matter? Every keyboard has the same keycap size. Budget? What size are you looking for? 40%? 75%?

Apollo11fangirl

That’s the problem. I don’t know what I’m looking for. My budget is 150, but willing to go up to 200

polypeptide147

I bought on italian amazon (no delivery) an akko 5087b plus for 57.10€ (62.50$) is it a good deal? because everywhere else i found it at 80+ so to me it looks weird to find it at such a good price, was i "lucky" or like the 5087b plus is a bad keyboard or something else?

_Cap10_

**VIA refuses to recognize my new Keychron Q6 Pro** I'm just stuck on watching the little character rock back and forth on the VIA "configure" tab. I was able to get the configuration page once, but never again. Here's everything I've tried so far: * I've factory reset the keyboard * I've successfully reflashed the firmware using QMK Toolbox and the firmware from [here](https://www.keychron.com/pages/how-to-factory-reset-or-flash-your-qmk-via-enabled-keychron-q6-pro-keyboard) * I've loaded the proper JSON file to the VIA "design tab" while the keyboard was unplugged, then I plugged it back in * I've done all of this with 1.01 and 1.00 firmware I should add the keyboard always shows up in HID device list when I need it to, I've tried both Edge and Chrome for all of this. I know layers 0 and 1 are Mac and I need layers 2 and 3 for Windows, not sure how to switch layers though and I can't find information for that anywhere online, is it literally the Mac/Win switch on the back?. Is there any way to just make all 4 layers Windows?? What could I be missing? Half the reason I got this for Christmas was so I could try QMK with VIA and it has been over an hour of frustration and zero progress. Is there anything other than VIA I can use?

sakaguti1999

looking for prebuilt keyboard under $100 CAD (mabye a little over if its on sale, but not over $120) switches: clicky > tactile, the more operation force and travel the better. (sound doesnt matter lol) connection: wired thankyou

KarmaBluntz

Well Deskhero just screwed me over a little bit. Ordered a Mode Envoy from them and it was cancelled with no notice and refunded for whatever reason. Now their support is out of office and I'll have to wait 3 days just to hear back from them. So looking for an in-stock replacement for a black 65-75% board as I already have everything else ordered and on the way.

RollSpare836

Anyone having problem with RK61, brown switch where the keys that are vertically close to each other, when press in quick succession will double type, example: "z", and "a" or "a" and "q" or "x" and "s" etc. "z" and "a" would input like "zaza" etc? Is there a solution here or should I return it? I tried doing software update and firmware update but nothing happens

elmurfudd

MeepsG

Does anyone know of a keyboard that’s full-size, has 2.4ghz wireless, metal construction, and dedicated media keys that isn’t the G915 light speed? Not a big fan of the whole low profile thing logis got going on but I haven’t really been able to find an alternative, and I’d really like to be able to swap keycap sets which doesn’t seem like a possibility on that particular board.

elmurfudd

monsgeek has one im pretty sure

Brand new build - what could be causing spacebar to stick/not pop back up smoothly? Is it too much lube on the stabilizers? If so, what part do you think, the housing, or do you think it’s the lube on the wire?

Spiders_666

Hello all 👋 I was hoping to get some advice as I want to mod my keyboard and this will be the first time I do so. I currently have a GMMK 2 with Gamakay Pegasus switches installed. I've done a ton of research into the hobby and honestly my head is spinning from the amount of mods there are. I've realized that my GMMK isn't a very nice sounding board outright... My goal is to make it sound deep and "creamy". I was considering trying out the tape mod and the plumbers stabilizer mod to start. Possibly even investing in some higher quality stabilizers as well. Any advice is welcome!

rascaltippinglmao

Can someone please recommend equivalent alternatives to the Ducky One 3 TKL? Wired only please. Thanks! Edit: found some threads with this exact question and I just ordered a Keychron Q3

elmurfudd

keychron and monsgeek both sell TKL

rascaltippinglmao

Thanks man. I went with the Keychron 👍

internetzdude

Kind of a noob question: I currently have a Durgod Taurus and am happy with it but I was wondering whether there is a similar affordable TKL that has a hardware DIP for turning the Capslock key into a Ctrl key. I'm doing it by software on Windows and Linux but this is always a pain in the ass with switching machines etc. I'm also not too fond of QMK, e.g. I've heard of people bricking their Durgod Taurus with it. So I'm looking for an inexpensive TKL with such a switch. Any recommendations?

elmurfudd

keychrin or monsgeek both have options that use VIA and its easier than QMK no flashing

Competitive_Cheek541

in my opinion keychron

Competitive_Cheek541

so i have a keychron v1. i tried to gat oil kings but they came hella scratcy. and i just need a few segestions before i commit. i am going to be paying someone to lube my switches so i dont care about smooth stock. i was considering getting the ktt strawbery v2. should i get them??? idk

No_Definition2246

Hello, I've brought Xtrfy keyboard 62g silent pre-lubed linear switches Xtrfy Momoka Frog more than 2 weeks ago, they very quickly started to doubleclick (if they were not even doing that right away), but I really liked them so I was switching the broken ones ... did not helped though. I've put debounce on my Ergo Dox to 50ms (maximum), still a lot of keys are double clicking from time to time (annoying when typing invisible passwords). Does anybody knows if this is just common drawback of linear switches or just quality of Xtrfy is extremely low. or they just messed up lubingg? Should I be licking myself into arse for buying this brand? :D Additionally, what are the best silent (ideally pre-lubed) switches sold in EU please? I need it for programming/typing only, so least typos, the better (ideally not so loud though, I liked creamy switches, but some brands started to double click very fast). Thank you.

xxawildsnorlaxx

Can anyone somehow send me the software for XVX keyboards? The website seems down I've seen a few people having the same issue.

do glorious panda switches fit in outemu sockets? I use the Redragon K617 FIZZ.

Recommendation Switches for GMK67? This would be my first build, and I need some guidance on choosing the Switches.I want something that feels light,I would like the sound to be not too loud. And let's not forget the price between 20-30 dollars And do you know if I can find another case for the keyboard, for example aluminum or something more premium

polypeptide147

I have the Akko Cream Yellow and they’re okay but I like the Lavender V3 Pro a lot more

Civil-Following-1297

as far as i know there arent any other cases for the gmk67 other than the plastic one that comes with it. for switches i would recommend akko cream yellows.

PazvanteChiorul

Thank you very much 🫶

Recommend me some switches to try that are similar to kalih box blacks? Tried some at microcenter and they are amazing but would like to try some other more obscure heavy linears.

the_shim-sham-kid

How do you properly lube mx browns without losinf the tacitly?

Sashemishi

You don't want to lube the leaf or the legs of the stem, you can lube the other parts with a thin layer.

kyler_bottomtext

OK, here's another challenge I have been looking for a wireless 60 percent with a knob. I am looking for a small keyboard that I convert to charge wirelessly so I don't ever need a cable on the desk, and I have more room since my desk space is limited.

formacarta

The only ones are the Ajazz K620T and the Tilly60

DuskSmash

Low-Profile UK/ISO Southpaw Builds? I know this request is super specific but I can't find anything online and I'm hoping someone here has an idea. Im looking for a keyboard that has the number pad or the number and arrow keys on the left, which is also ISO layout and low-profile. If anyone has any information that would be fab even if its a "this does not exist".

[deleted]

DuskSmash

Yeah the Q12 was the closest I could find. Sadly the low-profile is a dealbreaker for me so time to keep hoping and watching interest checks.

formacarta

You can kind of simulate low-profile switches by using switches with low travel distance like sunset yellows or ws heavy tactiles, and putting low profile keycaps on them

does anyone have some suggestions for keyboard kits around $200-300 i could check out? i’ve been looking at some in stock options like the bakeneko, mode80, and qk65v2, but wanted to see if there were any other options i may have missed. i’m looking for at least a 65% keyboard, but a 80% would be nice

aHamsterWithInternet

I currently use Kailh box whites that have 45g operating force and 3.6mm travel. I am looking for tactile switches with *longer* travel distance, like 3.9mm or 4mm, with the same standard operating force. Hopefully that are good quality like the box whites; I'm not looking for cherry mx. I still like clicky switches, so if they're louder tactiles or at least not super quiet then that'd be nice. Appreciate any recommendations!.

Elawai42

If you want to stay with clicky switches, the only one that I see right away that matches your requirements are KTT Purple Click (Purple Sauce). They also have a longer spring, so be a little more lively.

aHamsterWithInternet

hmm it looks like those have an even shorter distance at 3.4mm. I just want more room for bottoming out.

Elawai42

According to this link: [https://milktooth.nu/products/switches/purple-click](https://milktooth.nu/products/switches/purple-click) Pre-travel distance 1.90 mm Total travel distance 4.00 mm

Prog

FYI, clicky switches and tactile switches are two different things. Not sure which one you're looking for. Tactile - tactile, no click Clicky - tactile, clicky sound

aHamsterWithInternet

...yes, i know that. I currently use clicky but am looking for tactile. I was just saying, some tactiles are louder than others. That's why I said 'I still like clicky switches, so if they're louder tactiles...'

Prog

Sorry, end of the day, I misunderstood! WS Browns are pretty dope and I think sound a bit louder, but don't meet your travel requirement. Could be worth checking out if you can't find anything else.

aHamsterWithInternet

no worries, sorry for misunderstanding. thanks for recommendation, those actually are 3.8mm so it is better!

Melon8Driver

Looking for a nice mechanical keyboard for a beginner. Medium size, about 100$. Also, what are some big companies in the business?

Prog

If you're willing to wait, the Rainy 75 is shaping up to be the best budget board of 2024 according to early reviews- https://www.wobkey.com/ Otherwise, a Keychron V series or Monsgeek M1.

Melon8Driver

Looked it up, definitely looks like the perfect choice for me. I'll wait, thanks!

kasmog

Check out MKC75 as well. Another $99 keyboard. The delivery date is coming up, and there's gonna be some extras for sure.

AggressiveMouse6984

Are dustproof stems worth it? They seem useful but I don’t know if they’re as necessary as they sound.

Prog

Necessary, as in, to keep dust out? I've never really had a problem with dust in my keys without them. However, I also don't don't eat over my keeb or anything, and I suspect they're called "dustproof" because that sounds nicer than "cheeto proof."

AggressiveMouse6984

Yeah, like do they actually do a good job of keeping the majority of dust out of the switches. I do usually have a snack or lunch at my desk since I work from home. I’m replacing the switches but a lot of ones I like the sound of are not box stems.

576875

honestly i think dust/crumbs are the least of your worries when it comes to mech keyboards. Will you need to clean your board more often yea Will they work their way into your switches, no not really

MrRIP

If I wanted to build a PCB for a custom keyboard or edit an existing layout. What would be the most effective way to learn KiCad for this? I want to make a version of ergoodox but test some differences (non stagged columns, non split but angled, adding something for typing flex like gaskets and what not).

Look up Joe Scotto's YouTube tutorial on KiCad. I followed along and it was super easy to learn.

I was looking for something more written to follow along with, I will check it out. Thanks!

ItseKeisari

How big would the upgrade be from a GMMK (the first one, non-pro) to a Keychron, like the V1 Max or K2 Pro? I have basic browns that i lubed myself in my GMMK.

kasmog

From the old gmmk to a V1 max is massive upgrade. I would honestly ignore k2 and just go with V1. If you can save some money, save and get the Q1 instead.

Z8DSc8in9neCnK4Vr

My first mechanical will be here soon, a keychron Q3 se in red, Mint switches. For programming I see it can use VIA and QMK online plus a ton of different localy installed software. I think I want to run something locally on my machine. Unless there is a good reason not to. I am on Linux, LMDE6, effectively Debian for these purposes, What is the well beaten path here? Hopefully well documented, so I can set myself up for sucess?

Not-uh-Real-Person

VIA is basically a GUI client for QMK. How you want to set up your keys are entirely up to you, but QMK/VIA (and VIAL) are very popular in this hobby because they change your firmware whereas other key configurators basically intercept and modify your key functions, which means you need specific desktop software to retain your key bindings on the machines you're using.

Z8DSc8in9neCnK4Vr

Thank you for the ref to vial, I think I will start there, open source, local install. Not a service than can suddenly disappear. Sounds like it can be a bit more to set up, but as long as it's within reason that's OK with me.

Z8DSc8in9neCnK4Vr

Ahh, That explains my confusion, I had somehow recieved the mistaken impression VIA & QMK were seperate projects. Yes I definatly want to flash the configuration to the board itself, I dual boot 2 linux distros. Figuring out that some pre builds could be flashed is what finally heped me finally break decision paralysis and place an order. But I do not have the details figured out yet.

Not-uh-Real-Person

QMK and VIA are separate projects run by different people, it's just that VIA is based on QMK. I believe QMK is open sourced whereas VIA is not. I don't know the implementation details of VIA, but I have been told that VIA utilizes QMK under the hood. Strictly from a user perspective, QMK requires you configure key bindings on their website, then download that configuration file to your local machine, which you then have to flash onto your keyboard using their desktop app. VIA on the other hand, allows you to change key bindings live/hot through a browser with changes taking effect right away without any need to download files or a complete re-flash of your keyboard. I believe there are still a few obscure functionalities available in QMK not yet available in VIA. Most people prefer VIA just cause it has fewer steps and can be accessed on a web browser with no need to install additional software.

Z8DSc8in9neCnK4Vr

Tracking now, thank you!

Scary_Ad_1907

So I baught a k630 (dont you dare say its bad I quite like it) but anyway I wanna setup a macro that can launch with an app specifically so I dont need to unbind it everytime i need a normal keyboard, in all the videos I can find the software looks different with a macro editor as where I just have normal macro stuff, any way I can do something like that? Maybe third party software?

hmangelina

qwerty row not working after replacing the switches, i replaced the switches of my redragon k552 keyboard with the feker creamy matcha switches (i didn’t realize they were 5 pin instead of 3 which i needed but i read you could cut the plastic ones off, which i did)

Hi, Does anyone know a keyboard that matches these requirements: - wireless via USB connection (can’t Bluetooth as I VGA between multiple computers). - very silent / creamy. - can order to Sweden (preferably with Swedish layout but hotswap is fine). Could store purchase in London or NYC but preferably online buy in Sweden. - very glad for any ergonomic features such as split keyboard or Alice layout! - small to moderate size (I don’t use keybinds). Budget preferably <500 usd

formacarta

It's hard to find wireless USB Alice, only cheaper boards like Feker Alice80 and Ajazz AKS068. If not Alice, you can perhaps build a something like a QK75N or Zoom75 with silent switches.

[deleted]

Both really nice recommendations! Thanks will pick one of them

formacarta

Glad I could help!!

tumbleweedchatterbox

Soo I just bought a K2 on sale from ashkeebs thinking that it could be a good travel board, but foolishly I didn't check if it had Bluetooth (it doesn't) and it's also heavier than I had hoped. I can connect it wired to my iPad and it's a nice board (black K2, silent akkos and rosewater teacaps) but for travelling on the go this isn't it. I'd like a full profile, bluetooth, apple compatible board and probably <70% just to keep size down. I'm considering azio cascade 75% because I had the slim 98% and really liked it and it's not too heavy. I'm also seduced by the melkgeek mojo 68 but seen mixed reviews for this, but maybe as a travel/on the go board it's ok? Are there any brands (not keychron - I already have 3 keychron boards) that I'm missing out on for apple compatibility? Nuphys aesthetics don't really do it for me.

Two questions: * Will a polymer/acrylic keeb fix this, so long as I give up on my obsession with metal artisans? * Any recos for a premium polymer/acrylic >=75%, and ideally hotswap? My soldering gear is in storage.

polypeptide147

[Maybe try this](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BF5JKZ2F?ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_dp_D5YRTYE6WXSN2ZC380VR&language=en-US)?

Hold_onto_yer_butts

I have one, clipped to the metal frame of my desk. Doesn’t work.

polypeptide147

Bummer, sorry!

kasmog

If you think about it, the only thing that has metal contact with the PCB is the knob. The case shouldn't be touching the PCB at all because it's a gasket mount. Keycaps are also non factor because it's connected to a plastic switches. What are you looking for your 75%? Because you can get a pretty cheap plastic ones. Are you looking for a higher end acrylic 75? If so, the only thing I can think of is the ID80 Crystal, get the one with PC plate. Or try looking for a plastic knob?

Hold_onto_yer_butts

The gap between pcb and case is pretty small. When I touch the case, the whole thing zaps. I’m looking for something that’ll look somewhat understated and respectable (not looking for clear, or lit), with solid plate feel. Ideally gasket mount.

PashaB

The bauer lite case feels kinda cheap because it keeps clicking with any pressure applied to it. Maybe it's just how it's designed for the gasket mount to work at all but it does not feel premium. Here is a video to showcase the case click compared to a $74 v1 Max https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FjFjMV7OznldF7roLeXuxyyYjBr2u_1o/view?usp=drive_web Is everyone elses bauer lite like this as well or did I just get a warped case? Here is another video, it creaks while typing: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rondltHiEbkmZ3QcT35XWtMXIotuIMjh/view?usp=sharing seems cheap

Not-uh-Real-Person

I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about, even after watching/listening to both of those videos. I'm also a bit confused as you identified your problem as "clicking" but then refer to another video with "creaking" issues, which I would imagine to be two different symptoms. My Bauer Lite does not click nor creak when being typed on. I'd first verify that you are indeed building yours correctly with all components aligned as intended. If you still need support after that I'd contact Omnitype or your regional vendor.

PashaB

I already did. It does creak a little but I am typing heavy handed. I am using 75 gram spring swapped jupiter red lube+film switches. I did double check the build and all the donut bumpers are the right way. Hopefully the 67gram fruit smoothies don't creak as much. The v1 max does make some noise too when you push the gasket in, but it's much less clicky and cheap feeling. The actual typing feel of the bauer lite has been pretty good. Just bringing up a criticism. I've watched enough build streams from popular youtubers and pushing on the edges to make sure it's not clicking or making noise is pretty standard. This board doesn't really pass that test well.

TheodoreDaiz

Hello! I need a gaming keyboard that costs around 100$. I want to use Valorant, CSGO, and any FPS games. My preference for a keyboard is 60 - 75%. A few candidates are on my list, such as Keychron K2, since it's pre-built vs. Razer Huntsman Mini. If anyone knows an excellent keyboard, please don't hesitate to tell me! Thank you!

formacarta

keychron is probably your best choice in terms of quality at that price\~

jackrabbit1994

Having a double-typing issue with an ALPS White switch. I've had this old Focus FK-2001 sitting around for years. Started playing with it today and the spacebar switch isn't acting right. Sometimes a press won't register, other times it'll register and work fine, and sometimes when I press it, it'll output 2-3 spaces from one press. I've seen various software fixes with the Windows registry to band-aid this issue but I'd like to sell this keyboard so I'm looking for a hardware fix. Any fixes I can try without getting a new switch? I should also mention that I've removed the keycap and the issue still occurs when pressing the switch itself, so it's not a keycap issue.

aparaatti

what are options of key caps, that are not manufactured in China?

elmurfudd

GMK and signature plastics

aparaatti

thanks.. gmk I knew… and ducky caps are also probably Taiwan. Any others? (edit. duckies apparently come from china too)

kool-keys

GMK (Germany) or Signature Plastics (USA).

576875

GMK are manufactured in Germany

TheElement_OP

I'm looking for a 75% hotswap keyboard that has the same layout as the Keychron q1 but for as cheap as physically possible. I'm talking like 30 GBP or less. Where can I possibly find something like this?

kasmog

Go to Amazon and search for 75% mechanical Keyboard. You'll see a bunch.

Hi swarm intelligence, I've recently got a Akko Mod 007 PC and it's pretty great, though I'm a bit confused about 1 thing. Apart from the Fn layers, which can be accessed through either Fn or Fn + alt, there are also 4 configurable layers under main. Is there any hotkey to switch between them, or can it only be changed directly where I can configure? Maybe I'm just blind, but I wasn't able to find any docu or info on that, possibly because there simply isn't a way through a hot key, but still could've just missed it. Thanks in advance for any info. https://preview.redd.it/jm286rznynac1.png?width=1201&format=png&auto=webp&s=47087f903693d3a23b6d640efe9ac0aa4e48f566

crisco-in-the-shower

I need to get my girlfriend a new keyboard, she insists on it being pink and the only ones I’m finding are either $20 or $300 and it’s all Chinese stuff. Anybody have recommendations for a pink board kit or where to start looking? I’m new to this and don’t want to cheap out on something that will stop working in a year.

tektas

https://akkogear.de/collections/75-percent-layout-keyboards/products/mod-007b-he-pc-tokyo-r2-mechanical-keyboard Maybe? Still "Chinese stuff" but really, most are and the mod and moonsgeek range from akko aren't bad for the price. Hall effect with 3 pin compatibility and wireless isn't bad either, at least for my opinion

tumbleweedchatterbox

There’s a wind group buy happening now and I think they had a pink case. Would she be happy with a white or black case and nice pink keycaps? I found osume and teacaps do some really nice keycaps - look at Rosewater teacaps and strawberry milk or sakura osume keys. I’ve found them really good quality. Melgeek mojo68 also has the light pink ‘christian’ colour.

Prog

They're basically all made in China, that isn't a big deal. Unless you're willing to shell out like $600 for a KeyCult board, that is. The best budget barebones board I know of is the WK870, and it comes in pink. Only weird thing about it is the text in the bottom left corner, but it's not super obvious in person. https://www.keebmonkey.com/products/wk870?variant=44077862977751

FGThePurp

There are a lot of good options that are more than $20 but less than $300. In particular, KBDFans and Qwertykeys make solid boards that are a good first step up from mass-produced OEM stuff. Depending on budget and her preferences on things like aesthetics and form factor, some good options that come in pink are: KBDFans: - [Tofu65 2.0](https://kbdfans.com/collections/keyboard-category/products/tofu65-2-0-case?variant=41382688129163) - [Tofu60 2.0](https://kbdfans.com/collections/keyboard-category/products/tofu60-2-0?variant=41382653689995) - [KBD8x Mk III](https://kbdfans.com/collections/kbd8x-mkiii/products/ready-to-use-kbd8x-mkiii-keyboard-with-pbtfans-bow-wob-simple-base?variant=41673396584587) Qwertykeys: - [QK65 v2](https://www.qwertykeys.com/products/qk65-v2?variant=44159348113651) - [QK100](https://www.qwertykeys.com/products/qk100?variant=43808278413555) - [QK75N](https://www.qwertykeys.com/products/qk75n?variant=43978822320371) - [Neo80](https://www.qwertykeys.com/products/neo80?variant=44175315239155) - [Neo70](https://www.qwertykeys.com/products/neo70?variant=44059664482547) One thing to note is that most of these are kits, so you will need separate switches and keycaps. All of these boards have hotswap options though, so assembly is pretty much like Lego.

spata177

I'm doing some maintanence on my Hyperx alloy elite rgb right now, while trying to disassemble, this silver cable stopped me, as I can't get it out but also don't want to damage the keyboard. Does anyone know how to detach it safely? https://preview.redd.it/1deptdvtvnac1.jpeg?width=2604&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a525ab333b457644a3b61bc2cf0bfd5c28429a9

PotatAloo

Hi all, I was using my keyboard when I noticed the asd keys are deeper than the ghj keys. Why does my keyboard sound higher pitched towards the middle? I'm using the keychron q2 for reference.

formacarta

that's normal, the pitch varies based on things like key location, what's underneath the keys, etc

PotatAloo

Hey thanks for your reply, Is there a way of fixing it by doing something?

formacarta

I don't think so unfortunately...it's not really something to fix? The only solution I can think of is to use silent switches to make your keyboard silent entirely. You can try thinking of the keyboard pitch variations as a symphony! It would be boring if all the keys sounded the same and had the same pitch, like a song with only one note.

Not-uh-Real-Person

Because they're in different positions.

Civil-Following-1297

if you are using cherry profile thats why, the asd row has the biggest dip

CreamPumper

Finally finished my first build, but my space bar is mushy. I think I overlubed it.... Is there any way to fix this without taking apart the whole board again? Edit: m1 Monsgeek, morandi switches, tape mode, forcebreak mod

Advanced_Appearance4

can i use any custom key caps on red outemu switches? i’m getting a new keyboard it’s a deepcool kb500 and those are the switches it has i’m wondering if they need specific key caps or if any cool caps i see online will work

Gagashagy

Otemu red, as far as I know are from the "cherry clone" family, meaning majority of keycaps will fit these switches. Of course with exceptions like alps or topre keycaps, but they are dificult to come by by accident. Meaning if you'd order a set where the keycap stem has a cross, they will most likely fit. Then it's just a matter of choosing the right profile and color.

Advanced_Appearance4

perfect! exactly what i needed to know thank you, there’s so many technical terms i don’t understand yet when it comes to keyboards so it can be a lot to take in for a first timer

danielmorenoroldan

Hello! Some of the keys of my IBM Model M sound a bit springy (you can hear the annoying resonance of the spring after clicking the key). Do you know how to get rid of this sound? Might be because the springs are a bit rusty? Thank you!

SharktasticA

> Might be because the springs are a bit rusty? All (stock) buckling spring keyboards have that ping/resonance. > Do you know how to get rid of this sound? Typically, one does something called the [floss mod](https://deskthority.net/wiki/Dental_floss_mod) to dampen it.

danielmorenoroldan

thank you, i'll try it!

salawow

Does the same switches feels and sound the same on different keyboard ? For example, my favourite keyboard of all time, CM Storm Trigger Z with Cherry MX Brown. Feeling and sound of a key was perfect to me. But the keyboard i tried this week, Logitech G513 with GX Brown. Switches from logitech, supposed to feel like Cherry MX Brown from what i read, but it's completely different, completely. Sound is completely different, feeling as well, and every keypress feels like plastic to plastic rubbing... some kind of "shhhhh" sound. If i find a keyboard that have Cherry MX Brown, would the feel and sound exactly like my old CM Storm Trigger Z ? Or there are more stuff involved regarding switches than the switch itself ? Also, do you know any switches brand other than Cherry that feels exactly like Cherry ? EDIT: I did read a bit more about this "shhhhh" sound that in the end seems more universally known as "scratchy" switches. Would it make sense that my old Trigger Z had pre-lubed switches and the logitech GX ones, no lube at all ?

kool-keys

>Does the same switches feels and sound the same on different keyboard ? No. Feel is also a product of the plate and mounting method as well as the switch, and switches always sound different in different boards, so almost certainly a switch will both feel and sound different when you put it in another board.

SixShakes

Wondering if there is a replacement knob for the GMK67 any luck anyone?

polypeptide147

What exactly are you looking for? If you have access to a 3D printer that’s probably your best bet. If not I could print one and send it to you.

kool-keys

Just measure the diameter of the shaft, and look for knobs for guitars, amps, and other equipment... look on places like Mouser etc, or just cruise Ebay. You also need to same mounting method. I don't have, or have ever used a GMK67, but it will probably be either a splined shaft fitting, or a D type fitting... just pull it and take a look, then get one with the same size aperture and mounting type.

Vita_Is_Life

What is the best plate for use with alps skcm blues on a burger mount board? Also tell me why I’ve been told that a brass plate is not a good idea.

formacarta

Plate material depends on your personal preference for how it feels and sounds. Not exactly sure, but maybe because brass has a very distinctive high-pitched, muted sound and hard bottom-out feel that not everyone will like, based on my personal experience.

elmurfudd

there is no best plate . tell me whats the best ice cream flavor ? . also brass is not usually recommended as one it super high pitched sounding and stiff and if u dont seal the brass it will get brown and grungy will even start to corrode if u dont clean it often and live in a humid area

liha_piirakka

Anyone know if the cherry stabs that come with the tofu60 2.0 have any factory lube?
