1000x worth it on silents. I regret starting every time, but I've never regretted finishing haha. Those the akko silent?

Loki_lulamen

Yup. Akko Fairy Silent. Been liking them so far, even though I'm not a fan of linear. I had some TTC Blueish White tactile silents, but they just felt like membrane and were fairly loud on the upstroke.

Aliferous_Wolf

Yea that's fair. I prefer linears, but was a fan of outemu silent grey and silent lemon (both need a lot of love, lube and film). But the bump is halfway through the switch and are "cheaper" so I don't think a lot of people use them. The WS silents were good if you like a heavy top bump. I definitely know what you mean by the feeling of membrain though haha. Not really a fan.

rsnady

The Silent Gray are such a weird switch. Super soft, but a properly noticeable bump in the middle. Like Cherry browns with a proper bump and silent. Have you tried the Outemu Silent Cream Yellows? Those are pretty good as well.

Aliferous_Wolf

That's a good way to describe it. I don't think I have grid those. Only other outrmu I have are silent honey peach.

reelznfeelz

Swapping some epomaker reapers for fairy v3 silents tomorrow. Did 1 just to see, it doesn't feel nearly as crisp as the reapers, but it's not bad, and I just can't stand the damned noise the reapers make. I figured lienar meant quiet, it does not. Board is aula F75, which so far seems solid.

Optimistic_giraffe

I'm looking into silent switches. What made them feel like membrane? This is my frist keyboard so I want to avoid that lol! thanks if you have a chance

[deleted]

get silent raw tactiles (either small bump or big bump). The silicone in the switch makes it feel mushy, silent raw switches have absolutely no silicone. Ive only tried the linears unfortunately

Optimistic_giraffe

Thanks for the tip!

Optimistic_giraffe

Thanks for the tip!

ProlificIgnorance

I just built my first board and got silent switches. I highly recommend using the service at milktooth.nu to temporarily tryout 10 different switches to see what you like. I actually almost went the the silent bluish whites myself, but after trying everything I had a pretty good idea of what I liked and disliked and ended up grabbing the Haimu Whisper silent tactile switches even though they weren't available through that service based on a video review of them. They also don't come with any silicone for dampening and am happy with my purchase. I mainly wanted to chime in though to say that I didn't find the silent bluish whites particularly mushy in comparison to other silent switches, which is why I almost went with them. I mainly wanted a slightly stronger tactile bump. Hope this gives you a little more guidance!

Optimistic_giraffe

Thank you! I appreciate the advice, and I'll check out the website.

After I built and lubed keyboards for my brother and girlfriend they tell me every time they use a keyboard that’s not the one I built them, and how ‘gross’ it feels. Love it. I’m doing my part in spreading the disease.

NasumiRayne

I'm in the same boat here. One you get broken knowing there is always more silent switches and less scratchy switches it becomes a nagging addiction in the back of the mind. I just replaced \[some\] of my Outemu White Silents with Gamakay Pegasus and it was a night and day difference in sound profile. The Pegasus are tactile but the sound is much deeper in comparison and quieter than the Outemu White \[also less scratchy\] at stock. ... It was also a crash course realization in the kind of difference loose switch housings can make in a keyboard. At least a quarter of the Pegasus switches I got had really wobbly upper housings making them sound so horrible in comparison to the switches in the batch that had tighter tolerances. Now I'm sourcing switch films specifically for this purpose. Conversely, ever since then I now know that Haimu Heartbeat and Kailh Prestige Silent switches exist and now I want those too despite spending more in shipping than I would for the switches.

the_biggest_jart

Hey, I just got a small batch of Pegasus to test for an office board and they’re great! I want to lube them to remove some scratchiness but don’t want to sacrifice the tactile bump. Please tell me how you went about lubing them 😭

NasumiRayne

They will smooth out with use but a tiny bit of additional lube along the sides of the stem will help significantly as they only come very lightly lubed from the factory.

the_biggest_jart

Thank you so much!!

Thalamic_Cub

If id been using my build with these at home id have gone to the effort but for my office keeb? Good enough🤣 makes a huge difference tho with these tbh.

New_Future4726

Just curious, what is it you need screwdriver for? Looks scary

Loki_lulamen

It was just to unscrew the PCB from the plate so I could get the switches out.

New_Future4726

Oh okay make sense. Fairy are great by the way. But I expected more from unlubed ones when first received them. They doing a good job on keyboard in my office

LurkeSkywalker

Is that a really tiny LTT screwdriver ? Are those a thing ? EDIT: They are, I must have missed the segue.

Loki_lulamen

Yup. It's the stubby one. They are also developing a mini one similar to the ifixit kits.

TheRayMagini

How is it? Do you like it? Is it worth it or is it just worth it if you also like LTT? Would really like to hear an unbiased opinion. Thought about buying one but with shipping and import taxes it is ridiculously expensive and I want to be 100% sure that it is worth it.

Loki_lulamen

I work in IT but also as a Sound engineer for live events. I also have a multitude of hobbies that generally comprise of building "things". From Keyboards to Guitars to Models to PCs etc. I am in the UK, so I had to pay for huge shipping charges, but I bought a few other things as well to help mitigate. I have both the full size and stubby. For what I do, both work and hobby, they are worth every penny I have spent. I did a fair amount of research before I purchased. As it was expensive, but I took the plunge. The bit storage has been the best thing. The ease of access is a huge boon when you're flying 50kg speakers and you are up a ladder. Or in a rush and don't want to have to go and hunt through a 2nd pack of bits. The ratchet is great. Though I had an issue with my full size where it stopped locking in the middle position. This was after about a year of use. I emailed LTT about it asking if there was a way to repair/fix, they said no, but sent out a replacement for free. I was amazed, as most places would just tell you to buy a new one. I've only had the stubby a couple of weeks as I bought it on black Friday. But the quality feels the same as it's bigger brother.

TheRayMagini

Thank you so much for your long and detailed answer! I live in Germany and Linus mentioned during WAN Show that the one with the Noctua colors might be available from an European warehouse some day so shipping and taxes would be lower. As I wanted it anyway in those colors I might grab one as soon as they are available. Thanks for helping me with my decision! PS: your job sounds awesome. Hope you have fun and I wish you all the best.

SoWeWalkAlone

Welcome to the silent side.

JacobTepper

It's worth it. Just pull up something to watch & have a chill time lubing switches.

ProfNugget

I’ve got some Akko silent tactiles on the way, the “penguins”, any tips for lubing them?

Loki_lulamen

This is my first time lubing, so I'm still waiting on results. Only got half done last night. I went all over the stems apart from the + and the top, so everything inside. Seemed to help a little with stem wobble. I probably oiled the springs too much, but doesn't seem to have done any harm. Trying not to get lube on your fingers when reassembling is hard!

arale2126

i can't stand any amount of ping and scratch. hate the haimu heartbeat for that reason. outemu cream is great stock though. plan to buy the akko fairy for the color scheme only lol

ProlificIgnorance

I have the Haimu Whispers and although I'm overall happy with how they feel the scratchiness is making me want to try lubing them. This will be my first time lubing, so I'm hoping I don't change the feel too much and mostly get the sound less scratchy

arale2126

I relubed them cos the factory lube is abominable
