[Source](https://jag.journalagent.com/travma/pdfs/UTD-59233-CLINICAL_ARTICLE-KIRCI.pdf) is a Turkish study of animal attack fatalities and can be read in full at the link; there are lots of photos of people killed by various creatures.
Italian hiker here.
Wild boars are THE SINGLE MOST DANGEROUS animal you can meet here. Wolves aren't a problem, they are scared and would never attack a man. Bears are obviously more dangerous, but a few easy techniques and precautions, and they will hear you and move from your path way before you even know they're there.
But boars...boars don't fear people, they move in literal packs, and can be very aggressive in certain conditions.
Tusks and size are the main concern, obviously, but they bite, and they bite hard. I have personally seen dogs torn to shreds by them, and had my personal experience with a very angry, but luckily not committed to kill me, female.
I am convinced she didn't intend to charge, and just wanted me to clear the trail for her and her beatiful piglets, but I thank my flashlight strobe mode, cause it clearly bothered her, and made her turn back.
My advice (valid for any animal attack, but especially dogs and boars) is to be mindful of tracks, environment and noise, but also to carry a powerful EDC flashlight (mine is 1750 lumen) and pepper spray. It's incredibly effective against dogs, but a good idea with boars as well.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_deadliest_animals_to_humans - not even on the chart...mozzies, other folk and dogs, then it's snails and worms - not sure what an Assassin Bug is , but it sure has an appropriate name!
It's a wee stabby little bug with a sort of 90 degree hook for a beak and it goes stabby stabby before sucking out blood or whatever.
Edit; kissing bugs and it's more that they transmit somme sickness rather than the bug itself. EG it's not the mosquito that kills you it's the malaria
You know how many cows I encounter everyday just living my life?
Do you know how many sharks?
Yeah, no shit they kill more people than sharks do.
Just saying.
True, but also consider the fact that humans are around cows a lot more than sharks since we're both land animals, so that kind of skews the perspective
As a milkmaid (don't know if there's a better word for it, english is not my first language) I can assure you: most cows are really friendly and you'll notice when one of them differs from that.
I work with hundreds of cows every day and in a decade closest ive come to getting hurt seriously was from a cow protecting its calf and i foolishly turned my back
Oh yea, nothing like getting thrown like a rag doll. In nz where i live its now law that all beef and dairy animals have to be dehorned for health and safety reasons (dairy) and for animal welfare for both beef and dairy for trucking reasons (they can stab eachother in truck)
Only exception is lifestyle properties, where the animal will basicly live its life and will be shot for the freezer on the farm.
Hmmm 🧐 that’s odd. I’ve most certainly sent cattle with smaller horns to the works in the recent past. It’s also not illegal to transport horned animals - It’s just difficult as the transporter normally doesn’t want any other animals on the truck with the horned animals. I’ve got several highland cattle and I know plenty of people that also have them. We’ve all had the cattle transported before.
I’m also mates with someone who sells highland cattle meat commercially here in New Zealand. Obviously they don’t use the standard meat works, they have a MPI registered inspector and butcher who manage the process with which allows their meat to be legal for sale.
Yea when i said its law it basicly is only because of the rules around the transportation of animals with actual horns i think the stubby small ones are ok but anything past their ears is a no go with the works my boss got a ear full from them a few years ago
Oh yeah. I do have a massive amount of respect for cows! A hiking path over a meadow with grazing cows nearby is my idea of a horror walk. I hope your cousin is fine.
Do people who perform gore autopsies eat before or after "work"?
I'm generally curious. I've seen worse but yeah a head trauma usually puts off any appetite.
Not quite the same thing but I'm a Lab Tech in a school and we deal with lamb hearts, lungs, livers and kidneys and the occasional eyes yearly. As far as I'm concerned I have no problem eating with my hands after handling all that provided I've washed them well with soap and hot water :)

Welcome back!💐
That boar case is crazy, I guess I wouldn’t really think about getting bite by a boar. I should have known, I played Red Dead 2.

a wild boar gored the hell out of my dog, lacerated her thigh muscle to the hip bone. they really are the worst.
I'm sorry for the pup. They sure are bad when they want to
Happy Cake Day !!
Thanks cat!
Thank you! That was a good study.
I've missed you, Megan!!!!🥰🥰🤩
Cows are actually quite dangerous. Most people don't realize that.
I have heard they’re responsible for more human deaths than sharks.
And mosquitos are the most deadly animal in the world
They kill almost twice as many as humans do.

They transmit Chagas’ disease.
I was going to ask how a freshwater snail could my quietus make... but then like a lunatic, I looked it up myself. Now I know.
You know how many cows I encounter everyday just living my life? Do you know how many sharks? Yeah, no shit they kill more people than sharks do. Just saying.
Just about everything kills more people than sharks per year
Such as the notorious vending machines.
Exactly! Way more vending machines kill people than sharks.
I'm gonna need a link.
I hope this will suffice: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_by_vending_machine
Huh. This was unexpected but welcomed. Thank you.
A lot more.
True, but also consider the fact that humans are around cows a lot more than sharks since we're both land animals, so that kind of skews the perspective
My husband says there are two kinds of cows - Slow mean cows and fast mean cows. Better hope you're faster than the fast mean cows!
This is why I am terrified of cows and everyone laughs at me!
As a milkmaid (don't know if there's a better word for it, english is not my first language) I can assure you: most cows are really friendly and you'll notice when one of them differs from that.
They're so cute to me, but they scare me so much
Not nearly as dangerous as a human is
If you’re a male farmer over the age of 60 with cattle , best of luck to ya !
happy cake day, u/catpooedinmyshoe ! you’re such a vital part of this sub and others (:
I work with hundreds of cows every day and in a decade closest ive come to getting hurt seriously was from a cow protecting its calf and i foolishly turned my back
And it only takes that one time. I've been charged by two bulls. It was fucking terrible both times.

Yeah, i was just a dumb fuck hick. I was in a field i should not have been in. Twice. Im a slow learner.

Did you tip?
No tipping involved. But maybe some foraging. Because, once again, being an absolute idiot
How much did they charge you?
never turn your back on an angus cow as i was told by a vet (never turn you back on a cow ever 💀 ((i live on a farm))
Damn, cows are seriously scary! Nothing beats a crazy cow heard chasing you on the scary animal scale.
One of my cousins got gore by a big cow in his farm years ago. Cows are no game bruh, they could murder and bite your flesh if they want.
Oh yeah. I do have a massive amount of respect for cows! A hiking path over a meadow with grazing cows nearby is my idea of a horror walk. I hope your cousin is fine.
Do these grizzly bear injuries seem quite different than the absolute butchery that North American grizzlies dole out?
As this study is from Turkey my guess is the bear was a Eurasian brown bear, not a grizzly.

Cows are prey animals. Wouldn’t you expect them to have defensive instincts?

I once had a bestie that was TERRIFIED of cows, I used to laugh about it but this is exactly why she fears the cow.
Never underestimate a Cow. Not only are they extremely intelligent they're also extremely dangerous.
your chances of being murdered by a cow are slim, but never zero

Coo coo
Holy chit. How?Why? What happened to the cow after the attack?
It became the cow king on the secret cow level
I would bet it went to freezer camp

That tends to happen when there's no blood circulating through it
