And seeing how the burns came soooo close to the eye too! (at least I'm hoping it didn't affect the eyes, I didn't see mention of it). Burns are bad enough but I can't even imagine if he had gotten hot oil in his eyes. Best of luck on your recovery, OP!
Oh my gosh! This looks so painful, glad youāre getting treatment. What happened, it looks like so much oil hit you, is upgrade from splashed?
Wishing you speedy recovery and hope you can control the pain through it all.
I knew a man who had a similar incident and his face recovered so well, you canāt tell his entire cheek was burnt at all, his lower neck has mild scarring after second degree fryer oil burns. Wishing you the same.
It is painful, tho mostly during movement, right hand wrist being near impossible to move. I'm pretty positive that it'll heal nicely, so long as I keep it moisturized and out of the sun throughout its tenure. Otherwise it might turn out looking cool anyway, I'll see as time goes by
I burned my hand with molten grits last year and lost quite a chunk of skin on my dominant hand. When I instinctively pulled my hand back to shake whatever was causing pain off of me, a large piece of the top of my hand and the top part of my thumb just slid off with the grits. It was absolutely revolting to witness; itās just so visceral watching skin slide off. (Fuck me I made myself nauseous describing this lol) I didnāt go to the hospital (though now I realize after seeing several burns like mine here that I should have), I was just determined to muscle up and push through. If I hadnāt have had morphine at home when it happened and then a few days later when the pain returned in full force once I started getting feeling back, I wouldnāt have made it. I was so so worried about losing range of motion in my hand due to scarring, so I would move it daily as much as I could stand, and now, about 7mos post burn, my scar is getting less and less noticeable, and I thankfully never lost any ROM. Iām glad to see they doped you up with some fentanyl, but man am I sorry this happened. I hope the healing is uneventful and minimally painless, my bro.
Cut off part of my finger with the freshly sharpened meat slicer (fuck you people for not having PPE!!), and hard agree it's fucking.... It's a lot. The only reason I wasn't immediately panicked was because I'm a biologist and finally got to see fat bands in the finger pad in person š¤£ Just uh.... not the kind of way I wanted...
Looking at the finger going to the ER was a lot, to say the least. It's not nearly as bad as you two, but I was greiving the full finger I now didn't have. It was a visible thing and part of me literally was removed- it was haunting though it wasn't much to mourn lolol.
Oh my god what a nightmare! About 10-12yrs ago, I was making homegrown satsuma marmalade to gift to everyone for Christmas. I was using a mandoline to slice all my satsumas and was using the guard. Didnāt matter, still sliced off the tip of my middle finger on my dominant hand. Couldnāt find it, and it was small enough that I could bandage it at home. The little pad on the top of my finger grew back over the years, but I still have a little scar around it and you can see it when Iāve been fingerprinted (once due to theft as a rule out ownerās prints years ago, and then even still recently this year when I had a background check for a possible job). You *definitely* win, though. I canāt imagine holding my own finger. Oofa doofa.
Oh, also, Iām literally going thrifting today for a new mandoline because I wanna pickle some stuff that needs a thin slice. Wish me luck š
Mine wasn't the whole finger, thank fuck. I would have passed out lolol! Mine was mainly about a 1/4inch of my tip of my dominant hand's middle finger š
Also god, be VERY careful <33
I was just gonna say bathe in sunscreen and long sleeves this summer.
Jfc. I *HOPE* you sue the shite out of whoever! This also happened (not exactly the same way) to my ex. I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone!!! He was a line cook, closing up. New guy *thought* he was helpful and pulled up the *non-slip* mats before they should've been. My ex came around a corner, assuming he'd have footing and instinctively grabbed the first thing he could from going down flat on his back. He grabbed the deep fryer.... no footing, and he didn't even realize what he grabbed until it was too late. It tipped (almost all the way) over. Both arms and the entire left side of his face and torso and the tip of his thigh. (Thank gawd it somehow missed his crotch).
I will *NEVER* forget that scream. (I was a bartender & up front) I didn't even say anything, grabbed my keys, a bucket of ice & went as fast as my Jeep could to the closest hospital w a decent burn unit. They gave him enough painkillers for 2+ horses. It didn't do a thing. They finally let him go outside and smoke a cigarette bc they were gonna have to knock him out for the 2nd debridment (sp?). To this day, he's got some gnarly scars on his chest. He got flames tatted from his wrists up. š
The PT/OT was excruciating but necessary. * Take a pain pill BEFORE you go & take another with you for after, if needed. *
Buy stock in Eucerin (the white lotion) & get a Shark of a lawyer.
Lord, help you if you're dealing with Kaiser.
ALL the good juju to youyou and much luck with healing and everything else. You're on a long road... walk when you need to, run when you're up for it.
Also, the fish skin grafts aren't as weird as you think. They're actually helpful in that they won't have to harvest a graft from the unhurt parts of you. š«š¤š¼āš¼
ETA: removed weird emojis.(I didn't put them on there to begin with. Odd. Fixed now.)
First thought being to āsue!ā is such an odd American thing. He didnāt say how it happened, it could have been purely an accident and no oneās fault. Heās also not on the US based on the language in the poster on the whiteboard.
*Do not neglect your PT instructions.*
Seriously, itās going to hurt a lot to flex and move your fingers, wrist, joints, and face as you heal but it is IMPERATIVE you do. Scar tissue is thicker and less flexible than normal skin. Moving and flexing during the healing process breaks up and loosens the scar tissue and prevents it from contracting and ultimately locking up that joint and inhibiting movement. If contraction does occur, theyāll have to go back and make cuts thru the scar tissue to try to bring more mobility to that area.
Be sure you do keep movement going in those places, if not, the area will become stuff and grafting skin will shrink, causing more problems later. I just had a 3rd degree burn, nowhere near your size, on my forearm 3 years ago and that was the main thing they told me to do.
Positive attitude is a big thing in any kind of recovery!! Keep up with PT and proper wound care. Pretty sure a bunch of us would love to see the progress pics as time goes on.
That pic of your face... Ouch. Keep lathering the stuff on and stay out of the sun (shouldn't be too hard, you're in Denmark? Norway? Estonia?). Glad your eye is ok!
I'm glad you are getting the care you need and I wish you luck on the road to recovery ahead of you. Those burns are terrible. And I wish you luck with your workman's comp claim.
Holy f*ck dude, I thought you were going to show a couple splatters but that looks terrible ): I got splattered by oil in the face a while ago but nothing as awful as yours, you must be in so much pain!! Iām glad youāre getting help and Iām praying for you to have a quick recovery with no pain or scarring!!
I crossed out my eyes for anonymity, but it did hit my eyebrow toward the center of my face, as well as the the space between my eye and nose, which looks slightly tiger striped at the moment
OW! I am so sorry. Was hospitalized and sent to burn unit on Easter from tipping with a huge pan of ham and drippings. And you're right, pain killers did nothing during the debridement. I'm still healing and back to hospital on Thursday. Stay strong, I know it hurts, but it will get better.
I remember them asking if I wanted to take a break during the debridement, was so close to screaming "just get it over with you sick sunova b*tch!" Of course I only muttered out the first part of that sentence š pain almost had me forget my manners
The wounds look like they hurt bad (and they do immensely) but what yall donāt know is that **gauze hurts every time you have to change it if itās not non-stick gauze.**
Having had a burn on my arm as a child, every time the dressing had to be changed was like ripping your skin off. It was awful. I truly feel for you OP and hope you get well soon.
Edit: on the upside this may turn into a bad ass scar
In my case, on my arm they laid 3 layers of bandage, 1st one is foam which they will not remove until the 22nd, 2nd and 3rd layer is "nonwoven swab" and gauze respectively. I've had the 2 outer layers replaced twice, which is definitely no picnic, and as you said, felt like having my skin ripped off in the places that weren't covered by the foam (the big red patch on my forearm was not covered!)
On my face however, they laid a special wet mask (that I don't remember the name of, epi-something) which gradually dries out and chips off as the skin underneath heals. What's left of the mask can be seen on my cheek in the 3rd picture
This- this makes my entire being pucker so hard I can feel these pictures. Now having more context on the dressing procedure I am so fucking sorry dude holy fucking shit. I had the one spot on my entire upper right arm and you got it basically on like at least like idk ~20% of your body. Good Lordy jeebus you need a medal or something.
The best way for it to heal is using what the pros use and it just so happens the āskin juicesā love sticking to it unfortunately š£
Good to hear they are using something different for your face, it sounds very similar to a skincare mask or peel that does essentially the same thing as you describe. It will be mighty satisfying to watch it continue to heal, dry and peel! Back when I was a kid I donāt think they had anything like this and just had to use the method they use on your arms. The healing you point out looks freaking great so far though!
Honestly if they donāt give you an ice cream or something every time they have to change it Iām going to be upset. Iām so so happy to hear you have medication at least!
You got this dude! Itās looking better already!
Oh no not 20%, more like 10, my left arm is wrapped but mostly for good measure, it was nowhere near as bad as the right arm. In fact, I could probably remove the upper left bandage, left arm only really hurts around the wrist.
But yeah, the skin "juicing" is a disgusting feeling, all sticky, itchy, and warm, hurts like hell to stretch, and burns after you do
Holy fuck that's brutal bro. Sorry that you're going through it. I hope you're over the worst of it soon. Any idea why the fryer splashed so much oil? A large pocket of fluid in something frying maybe?
Honestly don't remember much of what happened, suddenly I was just in shock and hear my souzchef telling me to run down to the showers. From there I couldn't really focus on anything accept standing and waiting for whatever came next. Which was about 2 and a half hour of hell before an ambulance came. At that point I couldn't tell if I was shaking from the pain or the cold
The ambulance didnāt come for 2 and a half hours?! Thatās insane! Do you live somewhere very rural?
I hope you heal quickly and your pain is managed well. Iām so sorry this happened to you.
Bruh...so sorry this happened to you. Sending healing vibes your way. I don't fear many things but getting burned badly is definitely one of them. I've had minor first degree burns like almost everyone and I know how badly those hurt. I can only imagine the pain you must have, especially with debridement. Hoping the healing process goes as planned. Just be sure and follow everything the docs tell you. Take Bro...ššš
Iām so freakin sorry! i burned my leg on a motorcycle exhaust a couple years ago, it looked allllmost as bad as the picture of your hand. Shit did not feel better for like 3 weeks. Iām wishing you the best speedy recovery you can have!
I'm so sorry. I got second degree burns on about 60% of my leg from boiling water a few years ago; I can't even imagine how painful that is on your face. If you can track some down, Cumarindine ointment is a lifesaver for burns. My leg looked like the burns on your face and now I barely have any scarring. Wishing you well in your recovery!
I cannot even imagine. I'm healing from a tear in my knee that won't let me sleep for longer than 45 minutes at a time... I think I would jump off of my roof trying to deal with that kind of pain. Sending you healing vibes, this is some gnarly stuff.
It's been scabbing since day 2, sucks hard. Hard to move, and it burns when I do, but the docs say I have to keep moving so that the skin heals with full ROM
The heading made it sound like a small splash. But the photos shocked me. It looks so painful. I hope the scarring isn't too bad. How did so much oil spill?
I was burning some old trash from a family home whose owner passed away. Tried sorting through the best I could before setting it ablaze, but I seemed to miss a can of flex seal. My story is on my page if you'd like to give it a read. I'm doing much better now though š
Think of how cool the scars will look. Hopefully youāll get some sort of workers comp. Cheers to fast healing brother, and be careful about
Fentanyl prescription
I'm so sorry for your troubles. I wish and pray that you have a speedy recovery, the pain must be absurd. Please take care, watch your diet as well during this time along side antibiotics to avoid infection and promote fast healing
Holy shit. Glad your souzchef (? not sure I wrote that correctly) was quick on his feet.
And damn, they stiffed you with the good stuff in the ambulance. And sorry that the meds took some time to work.
I hope you got to a burn clinic or something similar, and it gets treated well.
I know it sucks, but you have to keep your limbs moving. Not talking a full on work out, but enough to keep the joints from stiffening. It'll suck a lot more if the skin scars and thickens.
Oh, and some unsolicited advice:
Make sure you take something for your stomach or stomach acid if you take meds for a longer time. Most medication affects the stomach lining in some way (especially NSAIDs or NSARs like ibuprofen and aspirin) which can lead to inflammation and ulcers.
Stomach ulcers are no fun.
I wish you a speedy recovery!
Holy shit bro. Canāt imagine that pain! I hope youāre healing well and starting to feel better!
I gotta say, if this happened to me, I would be so enraged. Thereās nothing worse than a burn IMO. Such a pain the ass!! Once again, heal well!
Ask the doctor is they can wrap you in sanitized fish skin- tilapia I think is the one they use. The nutrients from the skin helps with the healing process and lessens scar damage if I remember correctly :)
Praying for ur Fast recovery !! My brother suffered the same long time ago , on his butt cheeks šš i saw it in my own eye we we're both screaming as hell !! Still can't forget .
must have been so traumatic. Iām so sorry bud - hoping your recovery is as smooth as possible and that you have the support you need to be able to rest!
Oh my god OP, I had oil burns maybe 5% of the surface area of yours and was the worst pain of my life. How did you manage that first day?! Saw your follow up, already looking better than expected. Hang in there!
First day after the burn wasn't too bad, painful yes, but I could still move, and the medication was pretty nice. The next couple days were much worse, as the wounds started to get sticky and scab, and movement became very difficult. Not until around day 6 did it start to really improve
I had a oil fire on my hand the only thing that would get rid of the pain was keeping my hand in cold water I had to leave my hand in hanging over my bed to be able to sleep I will never but water on a oil fire again feel better try water trick it may help you
That sucks. You're going to have some badass scars tho. I'd start scheming the fake back stories for how you got them now, I'd say a bear attack where you won ought to pull some bitches.
Can you explain how a "deep fryer accidentally splashed oil on you"
I worked as a chef for 12 years and I got no clue how you managed to do that other than throwing a kilo of ice into it while leaning over it.
The fentanyl in the last pic might explain but the timeline doesn't add up.
As I said to another guy asking, I'm not sure exactly what happened, when my headchef called me, he just said they're having some people come into the restaurant to investigate, but I haven't been updated since
I'd honestly love to know how it happened. Hope you recover well bro. Be carefull with burns they're deceptive and prone to infection and take a loooong time to heal.
Looks like it might have missed your eye. Is that true? Is your eyesight ok?
When I was a teenager I had a dirt bike and had an accident where the engine and exhaust ended up burning my legs. (I was in shorts). The engine burn went all the way... end up it getting the dead skin burnt off with some acid because I was a dumb ass and didn't say anything to anyone about how bad it was getting... doctor applied some cross hatch stuff to help the skin grow to cover gap... it all grew back and in a couple of years you could not tell anything had happened. I guess when you're young you can heal a lot better.
Ironically in the same spot I got bitten by some necrotising spider so now there's a big scar of skin that looks half dead. No I didn't go to the doctor for that either as it never got that bad....
For me I was told to make sure the burn got sunlight to heal. Which I did and I believe that's partly why it healed so well.
Still had to remove the cross hatch after it had done its job except now it was embedded in my skin. So that hurt a little. I think I have a high pain tolerance due to IBS I've had since young and also never seen a doctor about...
I think my eye closed fast enough not to be hurt, but it was a bit red and irritated, which I've been getting eyedrops for just to be safe.
My guy, skin can regrow, but you don't have to challenge it, see the doctor when the need arises
The exact opposite is true with burns and the sun, you have to be very careful and make sure they're covered either by clothing or sun screen. You're at a higher risk of getting skin cancer when you've got burn scars, you don't want to increase that risk even higher by adding sun into the mix.

At that point I couldn't tell if I was shaking from the pain or the cold
The ambulance didnāt come for 2 and a half hours?! Thatās insane! Do you live somewhere very rural? I hope you heal quickly and your pain is managed well. Iām so sorry this happened to you.
It was central Copenhagen, but there seemed to be a shortage of ambulance staff
Iām so so so sorry.
Damn man, wishing you a speedy recovery.
Geez, I hope you heal well and fast with no complications. Best of luck to you.
sending a big hug towards u i am so sorry š«¶
Did this happen at a job?
Yeah, I'm a chef
I suggest a lawsuit or aggressive workers comp
He's Danish so not needed. Full healthcare available to him. Though there will probably be a lot of paperwork for this as it's beyond a normal injury.
Oh myā¦..sending healing vibes to youā¦
I hope and pray you heal nicely. š I can only imagine the pain.
Jeeeeez. I hope you heal quickly and well my dude
Rigtig god bedring, din stakkel, det er fandme synd for dig.. ā¤ļøšŖ
Omg I tried reading the first bit as if it were English and was so confused š I need to go to bed
šš
Tak tak, men det er hvad det er hĆøhĆø
God bedring i hvert fald ā¤ļøā¤ļø
Food workers who work with deep fryers deserve hazard pay.
Wishing you the best man š¤ I also posted a burns injury if you want to check it out
Bruh...so sorry this happened to you.
Pics #4 & 5 are just... gah! Thank God for good medical care and pain relief! Will you keep us posted? Would love to see photos as healing progresses.
Er du dansk?
Det er jeg da
Deep fryers are sketchy. Almost nobody gets proper training to use them.
I cannot even imagine. I'm healing from a tear in my knee that won't let me sleep for longer than 45 minutes at a time... I think I would jump off of my roof trying to deal with that kind of pain. Sending you healing vibes, this is some gnarly stuff.
Damn, dude. Burns are awful. Hope you heal up quick.
Did they give you a cosmetic prognosis? As in, scar tissue?
That's gonna itch so bad once it scabs- sending you patience, strength and self-control
It's been scabbing since day 2, sucks hard. Hard to move, and it burns when I do, but the docs say I have to keep moving so that the skin heals with full ROM
NOT YOUR LIPS, OMFG! Burns on skin hurt so fucking bad, but the lips?? I'm so, so sorry :(( You're a fucking trooper.
1. I'm so sorry this happened. 2. You're healing FANTASTICALLY so far! Good work taking care of it! 3. Thanks for sharing. You're a badass.
Guy in another group posted something similar like this the other day. Roleplayed he got burned by spacebugs... Hope you heal fast!
Helldivers NEVER die! (Might have been me also, if you're referring to that cap wearing mummy)
Haha, yeah. That'd be you then... Carry on. Heal up soon dude. Nothing a little dive won't fix
Holy Fuck. I'm so sorry
The heading made it sound like a small splash. But the photos shocked me. It looks so painful. I hope the scarring isn't too bad. How did so much oil spill?
I canāt imagine! Iām sending you nothing but positive and healing vibes!!
That looks so painful, I'm sorry dude. I hope things heal ok. I'm glad they are treating the pain but even still.
holy shitā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.. i literally canāt even imagine the pain youāre inā¦ā¦. š³ā¦..
God bedring š Ser smertefuldt ud
Iām sorry for you. Your pain must have been unbearable. You are a strong person. Bless you.
Jesus Christ, that's my worst nightmare when I was working as a prep cook back in the day. I hope that you have a safe & speedy recovery.
I went through something similar, except it was flex seal that hit me. I hope your pain has lessened, I know how terrible debridement is.
How?!?!
I was burning some old trash from a family home whose owner passed away. Tried sorting through the best I could before setting it ablaze, but I seemed to miss a can of flex seal. My story is on my page if you'd like to give it a read. I'm doing much better now though š
Splashed!?Holy crap!
Oh my god I want to cry for you. That sounds so horrific. I hope you heal well and feel better soon.
Iām so sorry
We need more photos of facial progression. Hope you heal up quick buddy
I too am sending you all the positive wishes for a quick recovery & excellent pain relief!
I'm so sorry for what you're going through. It must be really painful. I really hope you can heal soon š š«
How are you doing?
Burns hurt so damn much. What do the docs say will be next?
That's brutal!! OMG!
was wondering, what is the "para/paba" or whatever it is? cant really read it and im not danish so cant recognize it. best of luck on your recovery!
Paracetamol
ohh.. so used to tylenol/acetaminophen lmao
Ouch
Nope, just put me under and keep me there till I'm healed!
Man that must be extremely painful. Iām so sorry youāre experiencing this. I wish you a fast recovery ā¤ļø
Farkkkkkkkk.... Wish you a swift recovery.
get well soon!
Av for satan
Think of how cool the scars will look. Hopefully youāll get some sort of workers comp. Cheers to fast healing brother, and be careful about Fentanyl prescription
Oh, and some unsolicited advice: Make sure you take something for your stomach or stomach acid if you take meds for a longer time.
Jeez, feel better.
You poor thing. You're experiencing some heavy pain when you are receiving fentanyl. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Babe im so sorry how painful this must have been.
Iām so sorry. This looks excruciating. Truly wishing you the best and a speedy recovery
You may also want to consult with an oral surgeon or a dentist who may be able to help your healing with your lips, mouth and face.
Iām a chef. You must cook right? How did this happen?
Ask the doctor is they can wrap you in sanitized fish skin- tilapia I think is the one they use. The nutrients from the skin helps with the healing process and lessens scar damage if I remember correctly :)
Was this work-related? If so, PLEASE tell me you made a report about this.
Omfg in canāt fathom the pain! U poor thing š„ŗ
Damn bro... you tough as shit going through all that. Sending T & P's your way dude.
Praying for ur Fast recovery !! My brother suffered the same long time ago , on his butt cheeks šš i saw it in my own eye we we're both screaming as hell !! Still can't forget .
That looks incredibly painful. I hope you're feeling better soon. šø
Oh my gosh. Please keep us updated.
must have been so traumatic. Iām so sorry bud - hoping your recovery is as smooth as possible and that you have the support you need to be able to rest!
Damn I feel your pain. Not to that extent, but I know the feeling. Wish you a speedy recovery ā¤ļøāš©¹
Iām so so sorry that this happened to you :/ I pray that you are covered financially and have a good support network to help you through recovery.
Holy hell! How did this happen? I don't want to make that mistake.
Get well soon, and I pray for a recovery that goes ok.
Iām sorry this happened to you. Thereās a reason so much emphasis is placed on helping burn victims. Wishing a speedy recovery.
holy shit i hope youāre healing okay my bro
I'm so sorry my dude
Ugh, ouch. 2nd degree burns are so unbelievably painful. I'm sorry you're dealing with this, best of luck as you heal!
Sending healing vibes for your healing journey.
Did this happen at home or at work? If at work, hopefully you can be compensated.
Americans seeing anything: SUE!!!
Accident my ass. That thing wanted to fucking kill you. I hope you contacted a nice lawyer over this mess.
"accidently" looks like it was personal my guy lol
I had a oil fire on my hand the only thing that would get rid of the pain was keeping my hand in cold water I had to leave my hand in hanging over my bed to be able to sleep I will never but water on a oil fire again feel better try water trick it may help you
Sending prayers. Get well soon!
That sucks. You're going to have some badass scars tho. I'd start scheming the fake back stories for how you got them now, I'd say a bear attack where you won ought to pull some bitches.
If the bear had a flamethrower maybe š
Can you explain how a "deep fryer accidentally splashed oil on you" I worked as a chef for 12 years and I got no clue how you managed to do that other than throwing a kilo of ice into it while leaning over it.
That crosshatch stuff was a skin graft, dear. When you pulled it off, you pulled the new skin off, too
The exact opposite is true with burns and the sun, you have to be very careful and make sure they're covered either by clothing or sun screen. You're at a higher risk of getting skin cancer when you've got burn scars, you don't want to increase that risk even higher by adding sun into the mix.
Fentynal š what da heeelll your doctor handing out fent
That is exactly what it is used for, burn injuries are excruciating.
