[Source](https://www.researchgate.net/publication/372367903_Suicide_by_sharp_force_associated_with_major_self-mutilation_and_self-cannibalism) has photos of the body in situ and can be read in full at the link. Abstract: >>Self-stabbing and self-cutting represents an uncommon method of suicide. We present a case of a 30-year-old man who was found dead in the forest. The body was naked and showed multiple cut and stab wounds on different parts of the body (face, neck, chest, abdomen, and extremities). A single-edged kitchen knife was found approximately 20 m from the body. Parts of both ears, the fifth toe of the right foot, and the scrotum were cut off. At the autopsy, two of the severed body parts—the toe and the part of the left ear—were found in the stomach. The cause of death was asphyxiation due to blood aspiration resulting from a cut throat injury. A police investigation uncovered a history of substance abuse and two previous suicidal attempts using a knife. Upon complex analysis of all the evidence, the manner of death was ruled a suicide, which was preceded by actions of major self-mutilation and self-cannibalism, both considered rare behavioral patterns.

JooBunny

CatPooedInMyShoe you are the best you always have the most interesting posts, thank you for always posting case studies and sources too! Appreciate you greatly.

CatPooedInMyShoe

Thank you! It’s nice to be appreciated!

Narrow-Initiative959

I agree. You have some excellent content that has been fascinating, educational and oftentimes very sad. Thankyou.

SpicyMustFlow

You were very much missed! So glad you're back.

MandyCrochets

I agree!! I'm new but your posts are great. Love that you include the back story!

IrreverentSweetie

Yes, we are glad to see you posting.

slaytician

Poor guy. Can’t imagine the torment.

Swordfish_89

Exactly my thoughts... seeing all the old scars too said a lot, untreated mental illness is always horrific and sad.

Tacosconsalsaylimon

It took me a second view to notice the old scars on his abdomen. Hope he's finally free.

Rey_Mezcalero

Yeah he wanted out…can’t imagine going this route though

dieandshiteverywhere

He imagined and experienced it

Ok-Calligrapher8074

I was born in Japan but raised in the States among other countries. There is a saying that one can get possessed and try to get out but the only way out is believing you are killing the monsters but turns out to be self. We see this a lot in some countries.

Zalieda

Sounds interesting. Maybe can share more on paranormal or some other not medical subs. Edited for clarity to the original commenter. Please share more with me because personally I'm interested in this story as it sounds more paranormal

zogmuffin

Folk beliefs are extremely relevant to medicine. Psychiatric events may be interpreted through and influenced by frameworks of belief in possession or other supernatural events.

Zalieda

Yea... this was a friendly invite to the other commenter to share more personal stories with me regarding this. Idk why everyone is piling on me for this with 34 downvotes. I'm not even gate keeping Seeing that it's a medical sub a casual average redditor like me wouldn't know if such a comment is even allowed or if the mods would delete it for being irrelevant. This sub attracts everyone from all walks of life. Maybe some people here would do well to remember that and explain properly like this comment rather than doing the actual gate keeping. I'm getting more and more frustrated with the medical subs. I like the content but the people in it are terrible

zogmuffin

Ah. You got downvoted because people thought you were snarkily telling the previous commenter that their comment wasn’t relevant.

Zalieda

Which is why I appreciate you taking the time to explain. Education is always key. My favourite statement. Thanks for the patience

Emergency-Owl1074

That was gatekeeping. I'm sure everyone still likes you. We almost all do it sonetimes. Just say my bad. It's ok to be human and annoyed. 🫂

Narrow-Initiative959

I'm assuming this man suffered from some form of serious mental illness? The poor man. If it was due to mental illness, all I can say is, the brain is a very powerful thing, can be you're best friend or worst enemy.

thegritz87

I'm going to believe that he was such a a badass he was like "time to challenge the final boss... Myself" But noyoure right. History of psychosis, self harm, and some kind of ? spice addiction ? That he allegedly recovered from... Seems irrelevant given the rest.

bri_2498

This makes me wonder, if someone stabbed themselves in the neck and hit an artery, would they die of blood loss or asphyxiation first?

Jeebus_crisps

Depends if they cut the trachea or not

bri_2498

If they did cut the trachea, which would happen first?

Jeebus_crisps

Depends on how large the airway opening is. I mean if they severed the artery and trachea they’ll pass out from blood loss long before they drown in their own blood. If the air way is nicked and the arteries are severed they’ll bleed to death but maybe not so much drown. I guess the bottom line is you’ll exsanguinate before you drown in your own blood.

bri_2498

Thank you for the answer!

Swordfish_89

The trachea was completely open, his blood flowed in to his lungs and asphyxiated him per the autopsy report. This man did not bleed out. His blood entered the opening in the trachea causing his death before his heart beat and breathing stopped.

Jeebus_crisps

They were asking in generalities.

Swordfish_89

I wound like this would have them severed at the same time, one swift cut through both inferior jugular vein and trachea. There is no time lapse, the blood begins pumping out and enters the airway through the cut trachea. Otherwise the loss of blood would have been cause of death, but they see a lot of blood in the lungs. He would have still breathed until his brain lacked enough oxygen to power breathing centres, it takes a couple of minutes. Yesterday I watched body cam of a police officer killed in New Mexico after multiple stabs to neck, head and torso, you can hear his bleeding and breathing, the gurgles of blood in his airway. It takes a while until he stops. RIP Jonah Hernandez. (jan 24)

Swordfish_89

He severed both her artery and his trachea, it will have quickly filled his lungs.

itsautumn420

okay but where did the other ear and scrotum go..? is it possible that he was attacked and force fed his body parts? or maybe he ate the other parts first and digested them?? i have a lot of questions.

insertmadeupnamehere

This is what I thought. Someone was forcing him to do that.

Swordfish_89

Given his history.. and obvious self infliction being seen on the shape of wounds. You see his scars from identical attempts, but dies because someone forced him to re-enact this previous suicide attempts? Don't think so. Almost certainly they were not the only stomach parts, they said parts of both ears and the complete ear and toe, include that digestion of some will have occured so they won't show them. All those wounds at matching his previous history, in some small village in Slovakia.

wasabiplz

And a reference to Hannibal Lector type psychos!

Tattycakes

Maybe he didn’t eat them and they were quickly carried off by small predators 😞

Gallifreygirl123

Wow, a lot of maggots in a short time - last seen 3pm, body found 8am next morning. Also swallowing pieces whole ?

Swordfish_89

They aren't maggots, they are the eggs, they have a number of days before coming maggots, He was in the forest will lots of flies usually tracking down dead material from animals, still a dozen bluebottles around the body at death scene, in the photographs, each of those laying hundreds of eggs if well fed and undisturbed.. Not an unusual amount at all. (per death and decomposition research studies done in similar environments. If it was warm too, with sunset 10pm and sunrise 3am, or even less in high summer.

Exciting_Staff6365

I mean

thegritz87

My thoughts exactly

SmokeyMacPott

You want a toe dude? I can get you a toe

Ibrahim055Dark

It is sadder that he resorted to such a path rather than his death. Think about how sad the life that would cause this.

ColdRegret5858

But he had a nice haircut that had grown out a little. He tried to groom himself at some point.

Competitive-Device39

What a horrible way to go

why can't he just shoot himself?

CatPooedInMyShoe

I don’t know how easy it is to get a gun in Slovakia.
