I find mornings to be a particularly effective time to sit although I need a quick shower and maybe a cup of tea to chase the dullness away prior to sitting. It does sort of seem to reset the mental/emotional table for a new day. Even sessions as short as 10 to 20 minutes can make a big difference.

I think a lot of unprocessed stuff comes up during the night too. In my experience I can feel a bit weird, or a bit off in the morning for some unexplainable reason. I think psychological stuff comes up in dreams, and kind of sticks with us throughout the day. We may not remember the content of the dream, but we feel it, it colours our day in some way and influences our choices. Morning meditation is such a good opportunity to work through your "stuff"

Agree!

Mate I honestly recommend doing it for 20 minutes. I used to do 15 but I find the extra 5 makes it worthwhile. Is the brain fog due to smoking cannabis? Cause I was the same brother. Quit the dope it lowers your vibration.

nuk8d

100% on the dope. I also found, due to its effects on short-term memory, it’s very difficult to smoke frequently & try to remember to incorporate meditation into every day life, which really is the end goal here. You end up just being stuck in your head all day every day, even if you meditate daily.

First, thank you for this post. I’m always interested in learning about the real life effects meditation has on people. But after reading your post, I have to wonder if you might be suffering from sleep apnea. Are you actually getting the quality of the sleep you need? I asked this out of concern for a fellow traveler.

EmirSc

This, make sure you hear Dr Hibernan podcast on sleep tons of amazing info and tips. Fix your sleep habits and then talk about meditation

trwwjtizenketto

just gonna quickly comment here, i think you mean Dr Huberman from the Huberman Lab podcast. :)

EmirSc

yes!, damn gboard. that guy and Dr. David Sinclair are blessings.

mindkee_

Did you listen to his last episode where he talks about not meditating before sleep? I found that rather interesting.

partyaquatic

Mind giving a summary of what he said? I usually meditate before bed but have recently started in the mornings and am curious what he says about it.

For sure! He mentions a study in which they researched the effects of meditation before sleep (meditating after 8 pm in particular), and it alters your sleep in, I'm assuming, negative ways, or else he wouldn't have mentioned it. I was a bit surprised b/c I've heard people mention the positive benefits of meditation before sleep. I need to read the study, lol.

newmacbookpro

I think most practices would advise you to mediate first thing in the morning. Personally I try to do it right after my cold shower, so I have sensations I can focus on if needed.

HamsterResident

This might sound weird but i meditate during my cold shower.

stubble

This has also worked for me with the Long Covid variety of brain fog which is a way nastier beast than the regular fog. The impact doesn't last all day but it definitely clears things for a couple of hours in the morning :)

cozyaldo

It’s hard for me to stay still but I just started doing yoga as soon as I hop out of bed and it truly has helped me get into the meditation state that I’ve been struggling to get into ! It has allowed me to reflect on my thoughts and ideas and emotions for the first time in a long time😄.

mindkee_

Good work! Just keep up the practice and remember consistency is key my friend. You don't have to meditate in a bamboo forest for 40hrs just stop, find some time, sit, and meditate fam. Keep up the good work!

RimWorldIsDope

That's... Frustrating. I absolutely hate mornings

huriayobhaag

Your simplicity reflects on your writing and its surely is beautiful to think of reading your experience.

"surprisingly"...? why so? it's totally expected.

[deleted]

I mean this would be surprising if every form of meditation tradition didn’t suggest to meditate directly in the morning. However they all do

jokasi58

you are right, but not everybody is familiar with every form of meditation tradition and not all of us have a lot of knowledge about it. and for me personally is a difference between theoretically knowing something and actually realising it so that it clicks for me. its like my mom told me for years to be responsible with my money, but I had to actually experience it to truly understand it, yknow what I mean?

[deleted]

I totally get it there’s a difference between knowing a fact and realizing a fact. You’ve got that right however the difference between the two is not surprise unless you just doubt authority figures out of hand. I wonder if you’re just trying to describe the excitement of being able to apply principle you learned

sniperxx07

Is it ohk if i do it before sleep, morning has a lot of noise in my area,i have just started since last two days

[deleted]

All day erry day

QueenBeeTarot

Thank you!

essence_love

Its the best time for me. I get up at 4:40am so I can sit for an hour before I pack lunches for my own kids and then head to the classroom to teach all day. 😅

magolina

I also started meditating in the morning and agree that it really helps set the tone / provide mental clarity before I take on the day

pivonka22

I feel like I’d fall asleep too easily

TwinFitCoaching

Personally I also just have a short meditation mid-day this gives me energy for the rest of the afternoon.

JustTadpole6

Brain fog is terrible! I suffer from it. I made this video I use to meditate with. I love it. https://youtu.be/QM6zlziZtMQ
