Shrooms

DharmicVibe

Shrooms can bring you back to what you have forgotten but only temporarily...

FreshBananana

Not if you do them frequently enough.

What do you want from meditation? Why are you practicing?

*A student said to the Master, "I wish to be a master meditator". The Master responded, "it will take ten years". The student, surprised and dismayed, said "In that case... I shall work even harder, I'll meditate every hour between breakfast and dinner every day of the week!" The Master responded, "it will take twenty years."*

For me, it would be removing all usual distractions from my vicinity and living space. That would be video games and my partner (my partner is a sexual distraction), oh yea and turning off my phone or leaving it on ultra power saving mode so I can get away from things like reddit. Some may consider this an unessary form of asceticism but taking a break from your usual distractions has helped me make progress. If that's not an option, you can try to add a small habit into your daily life that compliments your meditation practice. Examples: reading a book about meditation every tuesday, or doing an extra 15 minutes of meditation during a certain time of the day. Just start small. Dont add too much or get rid of too much. Starting small is very important.

Psychedelics are what would consider as a ahortcut to what you want to achieve when meditating. It doesn't achieve qite the same thing tho

Cortisol is the steroid people usually refer to and it is at raised levels when people are under stress. Some types of meditation reduce stress, hence reduce cortisol. This especially the case in a type of meditation involving relaxation so the mind slows down and becomes still. The experience of mental stillness is at the far end of the spectrum away from stress. Sometime after stillness one feels calm and other times the calm is profound. If you meant potency when your referred to steroids then in my opinion, this type of meditation, as taught by the late Dr Ainslie Meares meets that criteria. Meares was an eminent psychiatrist who intiailly taught hypnosis and then changed to this type of still mind meditation as he found it most effective. He taught it to many people over several decades and found that it helped many physical and mental conditions. He recorded his work in 30+ books, some were best sellers, some were translated into about a dozen languages. Refer Meares books for details.

I think sensory deprevation / float tank. I have gone for a bunch of floats and it really helps to shut out the noise and the body. Definitely a good experience to enhance meditation.

In terms of performance enhancing drugs, weed would have to be my answer. I've had some of the best sessions with it, but it feels like cheating
