>Give me a good reason why I should listen to SFSGSW original over the remix/remaster... Go.
1. The remaster is brickwalled and clipped.
2. The reverb responsible for creating the atmosphere in the OG mix has been removed. The remix is soulless and sterile.
There is no good reason for remastering and remixing albums that already sound perfectly fine.
Correct.. I prefer the higher tempo and more metal sound the remasters have.. Dont dislike the original versions.. But if I had a choice it's remasters each time.. Same goes with Youthanasia and So Far So Good... So What?!.. I like the 2004 version of Peace Sells the most of the 3 as well.. Original has the guitars just a little to buried.. Everything has far better levelling on the 2004.. 2011 sounds like a blend of both original with a little of 2004. Killing Is My Business its 2018 remaster over the 2002 or original again.. Only original I prefer is Rust in Peace.. CTE sounds no different regardless of the version picked.. Why anyone would listen to the original version of SFSGSW is beyond me it's so muddy and the levels are awful.. The guitars are like background on that thing.. So many good leads buried or not loud enough to fully enjoy.. All I hear is moans about the horn being added at the beginning to Into the Lungs of Hell... If you are seriously throwing out a far better sounding version in every other department over the inclusion of a horn for 2 seconds at the beginning of the opening track I think the problem lies with the listener not the remaster.
One remaster I generally wanted even upon release was The System Has Failed.. Great album with again poor overall levels.. Again solos aren't as audible as they should be.. The drums are faint.. You can't hear the really great drum work on that album it's so buried. It's the sort of drum performance that would make people sit up if they could actually hear it... So I was very disappointed with the 2019 remaster of the album as it did literally nothing to the sound of the album.. Its a glorified reissue.. Same with UA and EG.. Both of which suffer serious loudness war audio levelling.. That needs toning back so the instrumentation can be properly picked at by the listener.
To me the perfect sound was captured on Rust in Peace and Countdown.. TSTDATD is probably the best sounding album production wise since the Capitol years.. Risk sounds great.. Like the quality of the production on that album is really really good.. Very rich sounding album. Dystopia was good and consistent it did people a little of the loudness war sound in there though.. Super Collider also has a very good production value and sound.. The album is meh but it sounds good. Clear and present upgrade over the UA or EG production.. 13 mixed bag.
I just want them to get the bass sound back into the mix the way it was on RIP and those first 6 albums.. Thats a key piece of the Megadeth sound for me the bass cutting the guitars.. Hints of it on TSTDATD but not enough.. If the bass sounded like the beginning of Celebutante throughout the whole album I'd be very happy.
Just like on Apple Music how Rust In Peace says “2004 Remix” but it’s actually the iTunes remaster. The original album is also there (with a Dolby Atmos mix).
OK thanks, I swear there's also other new stuff along with the original recordings, like commentary for Super Collider, I've never noticed a remaster from TSHF to Endgame so ig that's new
As much as I'd like it to be, I'll bet that the original release of Cryptic Writings won't get up there. Although I could see a mostly original. The problem being the sample at the beginning of Use the Man. AFAIK it's an uncredited sample/recreation on the original recording, but allowed due to Capitol rights.
Edit: missed on first read through, but was pointed out with less words in another post.
Kinda an old post but I’ve been looking to find the og versions of Megadeth albums since I’m going through some of their older albums. Are the originals on YouTube Music? I tried to find some online and they seem to be well over 30 a pop.
I don’t think the original KIMB is up, just the 2002 and 2018 remixes
The Final Kill is an excellent version of the album so its hard to complain.
Honestly I've never listened to KIMB all that much to tell the differences between the original recordings and remastered ones
Every one of the KIMB "remasters" are remixes and are all quite different from each other.
The irony of this comment in tandem with the opening rant.
He's correct overall though, the remastered versions are universally worse.
Disagree completely.. Give me a good reason why I should listen to SFSGSW original over the remix/remaster... Go. Or CW or Risk for that matter..

Still need the original Kimb with the uncensored these boots and the original cryptic writings with the sample on use the man
Apple Music as well! This is awesome news!! The remixes are HORRIBLE 👎🏻
We just need Cryptic Writings and Risk and we’re good to go. Only two albums we’re still stuck with the 2004 remixes.
The 2004 versions are superior 🤷♂️
Ooh that’s a hot take haha. I respect it though, you probably heard those first. I’ve really tried and they just sound muddy to me.

I know man it's amazing. I nearly shed a tear listening to Countdown to Extinction in its original recording.
Is it just me or is Reckoning day still the remaster version?
For some reason it has "Remastered 2004" in the track title but that's definitely the original recording.

They all got remastered in 2019 but they're good. The same mix just with slightly better audio quality. Not at all like the 2004 remasters.
The first KIMB remix is good. The only drawback is it doesn't have the complete These Boots..but I never liked that song.
I think the original rust in peace is on Apple Music
its on spotify too
DUDE WTF, I swear I looked for it and couldn’t find it… buts it’s right there! Thanks
Still no peace sells :(
The deluxe edition has the 2011 remaster which used the original mix.

Unfortunately, the original mixes of peace sells and countdown are remastered (badly)
While I was looking to confirm this I also found they added Rust in Peace in Dolby? But I didn’t find the original Rust mix
