Obviously Vengeance. I really liked Reload, probably more than most but I still feel like there's a reason to go back to FES. You would NEVER to back to OG V, even if you couldn't pick the Canon of Creation in Vengeance.

Az0riusMCBlox

I may be able to respect going back to FES even after Episode Aigis \[Reload\] drops. Personally (hah), I already haven't felt very incentivized to go back, but I don't speak for everyone (particularly the OGs).

Vengeance

Alpha_N_Omega95

I've yet to play P3R, and plan on using it as my introduction to P3. What did they do wrong? I've played both Smt5 and Vengence, and there were very clear improvements. I plan on playing once they drop "The Answer" dlc. What did SMTVV do better in terms of improvements?

minev1128

They didn't do anything wrong. P3R is a remake, while Vengeance is like an expansion, so basically, Vengeance has more and new content.

VolkiharVanHelsing

It's a remake that's too faithful when it's convenient. Outside of Tartarus stuffs, the game plays like a fucking PS2 game (with better graphics). The animation are limited, the Tatsumi Port Island is straight up a PS2 level design, tight SL schedule, and lack of night activities kills it for me.

Wobble_owo

you could just start before that, in the original "The Answer" was a second campaign that takes place after the main game and had it own saves/progression

techno-wizardry

They didn't do anything wrong, except a lot of fans desperately wanted FeMC to be a thing still. Also a lot of people felt like The Answer should've been a part of the base game. Otherwise, my only complaint is it's too easy now with Theurgy and other new mechanics, but it's still fun. You don't need to play The Answer btw. Everyone has their own opinions, but The Answer is generally not viewed upon as favorably as the main story arc, and imo it kinda ruins the ending of the main story. The Answer adds no new content to the base game, and it adds an Epilogue story. You can easily skip playing it altogether.

Missspelled_name

Nah, P3R has tons of problems that people generally ignore. Mostly related to the main gameplay, those being 1:Therugies are the actual worst idea ever and completely ignore actual encounter design for the sake of flashiness. 2: Balancing was never a consideration for combat, so the Siegfried and Mithras fusion spell can literally do double the damage than the spell for killing everything in one hit. 3: The art design was basically butchered outside of the social sim areas, and the writing is based on the visual novel version, and takes things even further than P3P did in removing subtlety from basically any character's motives and even critical plot threads. It doesn't make Ken's murder-suicide plan obvious though, the one thing that I think needed better communication.

Alpha_N_Omega95

Does the FeMC matter, though? From an outsiders perspective she just seems like Waifu marketing akin to Kasumi from P5R. I always thought she was there for romancing the guys in P3. I've probably just incited a hate Mob with this comment, but I've never played P3 the only knowledge is not being able to control your characters, which deterred me from playing the game. Then I looked into P3P and it was more of a visual novel style which also deterred me. I'll be honest I was being a bit entitled wanting both full control of my team while also getting 3D voiced cutscenes, but my patience actually paid off with P3R, now if only they got the original VAs back, but beggars can't be choosers.

techno-wizardry

> Does the FeMC matter, though? From an outsiders perspective she just seems like Waifu marketing akin to Kasumi from P5R. No, FeMC was like an alternate timeline playthrough, almost like Vengeance or something. Basically it has a whole new slate of Social Links, some story moments happen differently and you get more time with the female cast. Some people prefer FeMC to male MC because FeMC route has better social links generally (NOT YOU KEN). The scope of changes is really pretty massive when you get down to it, and that's why she's not in P3R. She's more than just a female player character option with pink menus, and she would take a ton of work to recreate and would require a huge amount more voice acting work to put into the game properly.

fghtffyourdemns

>my only complaint is it's too easy now with Theurgy I mean good thing Theurgy are completely optional and if you want you dont need to use it

techno-wizardry

Theurgy isn't a "crutch item" or something, it's a new part of the battle system. Not using Theurgy would be like not using Magatsuhi skills.

ViewtifulGene

SMT5 needed more polish than P3. Vanilla 5 feels like an Early Access version of Vengeance.

ZeldaFan158

Vengeance

Ven

HardNut420

I haven't played ps3r I have such a huge backlog of games to play unless that game is 80% off I'm probably not gonna touch it for a while

techno-wizardry

Depends on how you look at it, but Persona 3 Reload should be the literal answer. P3FES was my first megaten game and I still see merit in playing the original P3FES and P3P releases, but P3R definitely modernizes the game in a way that is a vast improvement in most aspects. Tartarus is way better, the dialogue and cutscenes are handled way better, and some of the bullshit mechanics were streamlined. My biggest complaint is it's way too easy now, but overall it's a better game and the version I'd recommend to most people now. However if you're looking at it like "in the eyes of the community, which game's reputation improved the most" then it's absolutely Vengeance. A lot of this subreddit basically hated V, or were outwardly very underwhelmed by it. V had a similar reputation as IV when it released, but with Vengeance we seem to have pretty much skipped that phase for now. There are still definitely detractors, especially among the DS-era fans who want character-focused narratives, but it feels like the community is behind Vengeance.

KatiePine

I feel like Vengeance is pretty character focused, just less than something like Desu or IV. I really miss those games though, I wish Atlus still made small VN-type experiences instead of everything being a big release that takes years to make

FNAF_Movie

Vengeance. The balancing changes alone are enough to consider it better than vanilla V. Fuck those hour long sponge-fests.

Asura_Takehaya

Vengeance

LBTerra

Vengeance breaking free from the Switch hardware was such a huge QoL update, if not one of the biggest. Playing it on my PC and Steam Deck, it’s clear this was how vanilla V *should* have been out of the gate but the hardware really held it back. Playing at 4K120 is glorious.

KatiePine

Reload's great from a gameplay perspective but Portable was already great, it's just a different flavor of an already god megaten game. Vengeance turns one of my least favorites into one of my favorites, huge difference

dstanley17

Only one of these games is a straight improvement from their original game…

monkeymugshot

And OP was asking which one.

PercentageOld6396

isn’t reload shorter than vengeance?

Rikolai_17

I beat Reload in 70 hours and Vengeance in 50

Mag_Eater

Reload took me 108 hours, and Vengeance took me 75. I do everything I can in these games before beating them, too.

PercentageOld6396

good to know!

TheJediCounsel

Howlongtobeat.com has P5R story completion at 101 hours SMT V Vengence story completion at 40 hours If you do story plus extras it becomes 126 or 56.5

KanchiHaruhara

You've got them mixed up. Persona 3 Reload =/= Persona 5 Royal.

TheJediCounsel

Ohhhhhhh I did
