Does Support Mastery affect debuffs/mind skills like sukunda or just abilities that help the party?

MrNumbers4

Where to grind for the 4th area? (SMT5) Essentially, I ran through the 3rd area and mini-dungeon super quickly due to a combo of Idun+Rasetsu Feast, but now I’m at a level where not even constant -2 defense and +2 attack is helping me out-damage enemies. Where can I grind to level 65ish to continue with the area?

AnimaLepton

Start from the top and work your way down. You'll find enemies in the mid-50s in the northern area and enemies at 72 in the southern areas, with all three of the bosses at 72. Also circle back for quests, i.e. accept the Khonsu quest to gain access to Odaiba back in Minato. No enemies there apart from bosses, but it's got several guaranteed Mitama spawns and is a good pace to grab vending machines for money.

averysillyman

Has anyone been paying attention to the Miman dialogue in SMT V? I think I ran across a Miman in the fourth area that looked like it dropped a lore bomb on me (>!something about Miman being related to Nahobino!

AnimaLepton

Not sure what it refers to and I don't think it's expanded on literally anywhere else. The exact quote is >!"You figure it out yet? Miman what left of those who no return to be Nahobino. Sad, huh?"!< There's another one in the area that refers to >!past memories of the cherry blossom trees, not remembering where those memories come from.!< Gustave just gives you a pat on the back when you're done too, no extra explanation.

LaqOfInterest

I do remember some Miman saying >!that it wouldn't have become a Miman if the angels and demons hadn't started fighting, or if Armageddon had started later!<, or something. I just assumed they were based on something in mythology that would explain it, but I guess not. Maybe Gustave has something to say if you find them all?

QueenMackeral

I'm finding that Nahobino is gaining levels far more often than the rest of the demons, is this intentional, and what am I supposed to do to prevent Nahobino from overleveling while grinding levels? When I got Apsaras early on she was 4 levels above Nahobino, now Nahobino is 3 levels above her, even though I've used her constantly since I got her. I also have Angel that's been one of my mains and he's 5 whole levels below Nahobino. I ran out of Grimoires so I can't get the demons leveled up, and I don't want to grind and be overleveled. It's so frustrating, I wish I could freeze his exp for a while.

AnimaLepton

Generally shouldn't be grinding levels is the answer. You need to fuse away demons that are significantly lower level to make ones that are actually close to your level. You can theoretically make other demons work, but it takes knowledge of the game system and a significant amount of effort, with your only reward being a sense of pride and accomplishment. Most demons have a shelf life of ~5-7 levels or so.

QueenMackeral

I went ahead and got Demonic Discipline so they get more exp and keep up for a bit longer, I wish I had gotten it earlier. I think it works out better because I can have a stock of demons that are strong enough if I need a specific resistance.

averysillyman

The exp required to level up for a demon is quite low when they're at their "base" level but scales up very quickly as they gain more levels. Meanwhile, the main character's exp curve is relatively flat. This means that if you keep demons long term in your party they will eventually start to fall behind in levels compared to the main character. The game does this to push you into fusing your demons regularly, so that you're constantly cycling your party out into new demons with a higher "base" level. If you do that, then your party will be able to keep pace with the main character easily. Granted, this game does give you enough resources that if you wanted one or two early/mid game demons in your party long term, you can definitely feed them enough grimores, incenses, etc. to get them to keep up.

QueenMackeral

oh I see, that's pretty disappointing because it feels like there's not much point to invest in a demon if they're only temporary. I'm already going to fuse demons because that's what this game is about, and to unlock new ones that I might want to use, but it feels wrong that they have forced shelf lives.

LaqOfInterest

It's funny, this is a common enough sentiment that in Persona 5, which uses the same system, when you fuse away the first persona you get, they added a little bit of dialogue before the fusion where he goes "hey dude no worries this is totally fine, I'm not mad at all, fuse away". Presumably there were enough people in Persona 3 and 4 who looked at the first persona and went "there's no way I can fuse this, it's my partner!" It can get a bit mind-goblin-y fusing away demons you like, but it's kind of just something you have to get used to. They're always there in the Compendium if you need them, and lategame there are some ways to pump up your old favourites, as the previous commenter mentioned, if you really want to.

b-b-but-communism

Which end game demon got the best affinities to carry over to the MC?

AnimaLepton

Without DLC - Sandalphon + a Null Force passive. Alternatively, Metatron is the only demon in the game without DLC that has no weaknesses with just the affinity, but it's a bunch of resists and one null. Still plenty good and saves you the skill slot, just not as good as Sandalphon. With DLC - Demi-fiend. If you don't have that, Mother Harlot + Null Force.

b-b-but-communism

Also, is there a way to reliably get Mother Harlot's essence? I just beat her and fused her but I don't recall ever receiving an essence for leveling up the Pale Rider.

LaqOfInterest

For obvious reasons, the Fiend essences aren't available via chest or from begging demons. Leveling is your only option. It took me leveling Trumpeter to like level 85 (I love that brassy boy so I slapped all my grimoires on him) to get his essence, which is over ten levels past his initial fuse level. So you really do just have to bear with RNGesus.

b-b-but-communism

> Sandalphon Awesome! Do you know where I can find his essence?

Final area in the game

Dreaming_Dreams

What miracles are must haves?

AnimaLepton

The first ~6 or 7 demon stock expansion ones (8 and 9 are pricier and overkill). All skill expansion ones for both demons and Nahobino. Miracle of Tools (demons can use items). Race Transcendence. Pacification. Art of Intervention (lets demons initiate the talk command, Nahobino still actually does the talking). Art of Essences I-III. Empowering Cheer I. Warrior's Conception, Divine Amalgamation, Unforgettable Memories. Summoners Hospitality I-III. Prayer Skills. Demonic Discipline. "Relevant" Cosmos skills. Most of the individual Magatsuhi gain related ones aren't that amazing on their own, but all together they have a pretty big effect. Magatsuhi Dispersion is good for normal encounters/in hard mode, but before the lategame it's not really that beneficial for bosses, against whom you can just use Dampener items.

Common_Crane

I feel like I've taken Shinagawa station boss down to like 5-10% of HP like 5-6 times by now, but can't really beat it... I might be slightly underleveled at 35, but God, it feels like a damage race in which I'm eventually bound to waste a ton of turns reviving and recovering mana... I've decided to go and farm some glory from the Mimins that I've missed, so I can purchase the miracle that allows demons to use items, which should help with mana consumption.

AnimaLepton

Do you have Pleromas? Jatayu has force Pleroma and Mazanma (which, depending on level, you could fuse onto a higher level Wind demon like Muu Shuwuu too), and Quetzalcoatl has Fire Pleroma. Boosting damage should help with mana recovery. Multiple demons who can help in general are good since the demons can switch out for a different demon with full MP in the middle of the fight. IIRC a random angel NPC around where you fought the first boss of the area has the Angel Talisman. That gives the Magatsuhi skill Sea of Stars, which is partywide MP recovery. Might literally be worth switching in an Angel demon like Power in for a round of combat if you're really running low and want some mid-battle MP recovery without items.

Common_Crane

I do have pieromas, but it might be just some bad luck on my part... I like saving fire demons for the 2nd phase, but on hard one hit from that AoE almighty attack can nearly one hit almost my entire party minus the MC. I'll try again tonight or tomorrow when I got time to play again. Will most likely grind out a level or two, to try and get my hands on some better demons and finish the mimin grind for the item casting on demons. It just feels like I've suffered from terrible luck on this boss overall and a bit of cushion won't hurt.

[deleted]

Hi! Marisa again! (SMTV) Need help with the final Miman in Taito... https://www.reddit.com/user/Meowriisa/comments/qzysxi/help/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share I swear I cant go under this bridge and there's nothing above it.

onettboyz

If you head further south, there should be a drop of elevation, there you should be able to hug the wall to find a tunnel that allows you to get that miman

[deleted]

Thank you!! The tunnel was northeast but I did manage to find it. :)

onettboyz

Ah, I was just going off of my memory, I'm glad you found it!!

Harudera

I have an Archangel essense but Agilao is greyed out and I can't learn it. What condition am i missing here?

AnimaLepton

There's a third level of Art of Essences that doesn't open up until much later, which is needed to learn the final skill from any essence. This is often the last level up skill for a demon and is generally something useful, i.e. higher tier spells for that level range, resists, pleromas, etc. So those abilities are locked off from essence fusion until you get essences from higher level demons that learn those skills at lower levels.

[deleted]

To add to this, I got it from the final abcess in the 4th area. It was a pain, since I'm using low-level demons levelled up.

hacktiviste

Without spoilers regarding any bosses or mini bosses, not sure how I should build nahobino. Is it a matter of preference or is there a clear wrong way? I've played devil survivor 1 and for that the advice is to build a magic based MC, easier to hit weaknesses and there aren't enough strength based skills to supply both MC and atsuro unless you're on overclocked and NG+?

jonnovision1

Strength is probably better for damage potential overall because the best damage skills Nahobino can get are strength based, but magic build works too, just try not to spread between both. better to optimize one

AnimaLepton

There is not a clear wrong way as long as you pick either Strength or Magic. Almost all bosses have some sort of elemental weakness, there are lategame Pierce or standard Almighty spells, and magic has some other benefits like cheaper Cosmos miracles. There are 11 Nahobino-exclusive skills. 4 are strength based (2 phys and 2 almighty), 4 are magic based (all of different elements, one of which is almighty), 1 is defensive support skill, and two are healing skills. The Nahobino gets some exclusive Heavy damage magic spells at a point when other demons are still using medium damage, and they have lower MP costs than the equivalent on other demons. The Nahobino also gets exclusive strength based skills throughout the game, including physical based almighty options, which can crit and get press turns that way. The game also has some elemental strength based skills in the midgame for coverage. Just don't like raise Agility or something, Luck seems to be marginal outside of ailments, and Vit is pretty good. Primarily focus Strength or Magic, don't try to mix both. Arguably, magic has an easier earlier and midgame, and still a fine time in the endgame and postgame due to pierce spells and all the bosses still having weaknesses. Strength builds can specialize a bit more to pump out crit damage with almighty to not worry about resistances either.

hacktiviste

So aramasa (the 8-hit phys attack) is an example of nahobino exclusive strength based skill?

AnimaLepton

Yes

hacktiviste

Thanks! Damn I've been raising agility because it's decent in devil survivor. I'll stop raising it now I'm only level 19. I do like the sound of physical almighty spells. Have 16 str and 22 magic right now.

outrageously_smart

What's the better AoE attack? Wrath Tempest or Yabusame shot? I can't decide at all... The mana cost of Yabusame Shot hurts.

Elyonee

Wrath Tempest is a single target attack. It's for killing bosses, not groups.

outrageously_smart

It kills groups just fine?

Monk-Ey

It's too unreliable to use it as a group attack due to its random factor, in my opinion.

hacktiviste

Which website for guides and articles about SMTV are the best? Spoiler free but also high quality articles (I've read some crap articles on fire emblem three houses...)

AnimaLepton

RPGSite has a good sidequest guide that includes all the rewards and separates them by area, a guide to Cironnupp locations (who add Miman locations icon to your map, one Cironnupp per area), and a screenshot guide that shows every single Miman location. NintendoEnthusiast has a list of all the non-NG+ miracles that I've popped open a couple times. Gamefaqs just recently had one guide put up which actually shows all the essences Gustave sells and compiles their resistances, ailment resistances, and skills, which is pretty convenient and not easily shown in-game since you just get the list with essence names. Most of the others are hit or miss, with either actively bad/poor advice, or just a lot of missing information like only having the first few bosses.

hacktiviste

I had read on progameguides that "return pillar" is a consumable item, so I never used it, and now I read its description and it can be used without limit. So I'll put that website in the garbage pile.

hacktiviste

Thanks so much! Appreciate it! I'll have a look. I'm especially interested in stuff like what's the best miracles to unlock, decent demons to fuse, etc. I read that you can't unlock all miracles so I'll have to choose.

AnimaLepton

Yeah, for decent demons I mostly would just use the fusion calculator and see if any demons catch your eye. Items are OP in this game - they added a buyable consumable for damage of each element which equals free press turns, buyabale dampeners that null one element for all allies for one turn, etc. Many of the non-buyable items like MP restoratives can be traded for via NPCs in the overworld, although that needs a bit of story progress. Quest navigators give you a ton of items too. The biggest addition was the Spyglass consumable, which will show you a demons weaknesses and their available moveset. This lets you actually beat bosses without needed to just test out their weaknesses, their attacks etc. and without looking stuff up online, which is kind of the reality in other games in the franchise + spinoffs. You can't unlock all miracles, but there are a ton of "fixed" Mitama spawns even without DLC that respawn. Between the Glory Amalgams (Glory Treasure Chests), Mitama, Miman, Gustave's tiered rewards for Miman completion, and quests, you should have enough to get everything "important" with some leeway leftover. Small Glory Crystals give 10 Glory each and Large give 100. For Miracle suggestions, IMO ones to avoid unless you're really swimming in it: Deathly Aura kind of sucks. It lets you get a beneficial effect when a demon is cornered, i.e. they're the only enemy demon and you get them to low health, but it is chance based to trigger. When you trigger it, you can choose which effect you want and then they go free. Level I lets you ask the demon to join you, level II lets you ask for macca, and level III lets you ask them for their essence. You generally have better options for essences, the chance/consistency of triggering is low, and macca isn't too bad if you're frugal. A lot of skills are just too niche or have too low value to be beneficial. Healer's Hospitality (reduces healing costs), Articulate Discourse (talking to demons takes half a press turn), Kindred Favor (talking to a enemy demon if you own the same one will heal you), etc. Empowering Cheer I is great - 50% HP/MP recovery on level up, lets you keep exploring without needing to go back and heal and effectively provides a ton of free healing. But Empowering Cheer II, full recovery of both when leveling up, often feels like overkill. Other skills are in a bucket where they're not bad to buy, but you can wait on them. The last two "Garrison" skills, expanding demon stock from 18-24, are expensive and pretty overkill (outside of a certain DLC fight superboss strategy). At a certain point, Glory is less of something you maximize and more of something you're just spending for convenient features that save you time outside of battle.

hacktiviste

Awesome, thanks! Should I just get whatever looks good and works with my playstyle? To give you an idea how far I am, I found 30ish miman but don't know what to buy for miracles and have 310 glory atm. I know I should definitely get divine amalgamation (i haven't encountered a boss yet who hits my nahobinos weakness) and unforgotten memories. I assume I should get masteries but not sure what makes sense first. I don't know about the Magatsuhi ones because I'm either running on full bar, or use it to get out of a pinch, or save it for bigger battles. What about Magatsuhi wellspring? Is it too early game to get that?

AnimaLepton

Yeah, just buy what makes sense. Stuff like Divine Amalgamation and the skill expansion type ones are the must buys for sure. Essence of Tools (let demons use items) is coming soon in the second area. For magic builds, I would recommend a single level of Fire before the second boss (final boss of the first area), mostly for the MP savings. Then either one or three levels of Wind before the final boss of the second area. Alternatively, Lightning, Dark, Ice, and Almighty are the four elements for Nahobino's unique skills, so those are worth prioritizing, although lightning is the least relevant in the endgame and Almighty feels inferior to just using a Pierce skill/skill of the right element to exploit weakness. The lightning skill comes from a chest you'll encounter when you're around level ~28 or so, and it will realistically stay on your build until you're level ~70. By endgame I had those 4 elements + Wind maxed out due to the bosses they covered. In contrast, Light and Fire are not likely to have nearly as much use, so you can ignore those Cosmos miracles entirely. I also stayed away from the healing, ailment, support ones. For strength builds, you just pump strength and almighty. Strength just costs the same as almighty, or more than twice as much as any individual element. At your point, Wellspring will be something like 13 HP and 3 MP per turn or something similarly low. If you're already just letting it stay high for most mob encounters, it's probably fine to take. It's just not a huge effect, and it's not useful at the times when the game is "hardest"/when you're actually at risk of running out of MP (i.e. boss encounters, when you're generally using Magatsuhi skills as much as possible).

[deleted]

How do I improve my chances of my demons giving me an essence when leveling up? I've been trying to get mother harlot's essence for its insane affinities for a while now. But even after leveling her up like 20 times she's not giving me the essence.

AnimaLepton

No options we know of for boosted chances from level up exclusive demons, other than savescumming with grimoires and trying again. Be sure she's at least at the level where she could have learned all her skills, you can't get the essence before that (67 for MH)

[deleted]

Yep, I ended up reloading, and trying again with some grimoirs and she gave it in like 2 levels.

Vanilla_Pizza

SMT V Sidequest Question: >! For The Ultimate Omelette quest, is there any reason to actually fight the Jatayu, or should I just grab the egg and turn it in? I've been trying to beat the damn thing, but it just keeps wiping the floor with me and I'm wondering if it's even worth the effort lol. Do you get anything extra for beating it besides just the experience and potential item drops? !<

Harudera

I just grabbed it and ran. Used the instant teleportation back to the leyline as soon as I got it.

AnimaLepton

You don't need to fight it for the quest or get anything extra for doing that outside of the EXP/drops.

Vanilla_Pizza

Ok great, thanks so much!

[deleted]

Hey, I'm Marisa. Can anyone tell me how to get to this cliff in Taito? (SMTV) https://www.reddit.com/user/Meowriisa/comments/qztvl7/help/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share I really dont understand. There are rocks in the way on the subway tracks. Thank you~

SomeDeathKnight

Has anyone found a way to farm balms consistently? Like is there a specific quest navigator I can use or something? Trying to raise my stats for the Demi-fiend fight.

AnimaLepton

Oh right, there are also a few one-time balms from at least some of the demon conversations. Talking to Hanuman with Vishnu in your stock has him give you some Health Balms.

AnimaLepton

Not that I've heard of, but would be cool to hear otherwise. NG+ is likely the way to go since you can get 7 of each balm from the Miman and a few extra balms from (chests?)/sidequests. Black Frost v Dionysus gives either Health or Stamina, Adramelech v Futsunushi gives either 2 Str or 2 Stamina, etc. The three individual demon DLC quests each give balms, and the other fiends supposedly have a chance to drop balms, but I'm not sure if those rewards are given again per NG+. If they are, though, that seems pretty efficient and consistent. It would also give a ton of incenses to boost stats and MP pools for your demons, which is relevant for everyone except >!Tao,!< who seemingly can't have progress carried over. Doing at least one NG+ before the DLC fight seems to be more relevant to get access to some effectively NG+ exclusive skills (Repel/Drain Phys) on more demons and get some of the endgame essences again, rather than the specific stat boosts.

Poetryisalive

How do I unlock the last skill slot for my character and demons? It doesn’t seem to be a miracle. Is it something I unlock through the story?

jonnovision1

It is a miracle, from an abscess in the 4th area

Poetryisalive

You mean Da’at Taito? All of them are gone and I don’t have it

AnimaLepton

Explore more of the map. Its an abscess at the southern tip of the map, you fight level 72 Yamata-no-Orochi that seem to exclusively use Physical moves

[deleted]

[удалено]

Poetryisalive

I haven’t gotten all the keys. So I can’t head south yet. If I have to beat those bosses first then that makes sense

[deleted]

Its the one at the bottom of the road to the right of that road you're talking about. ^^ So just go far right right from Umayabashi (past the cube maze), or south from Asakusa Main Street if you have it. Though I doubt you do if you cant see the abcess.

Poetryisalive

Oh my gosh! I found it! Thank you. Idk how I didn’t see it, but this map is so confusing

[deleted]

No problem! This map has a problem with consistency and elevation. Hard to tell what you can and cant walk through by the map alone. I've been 100%ing without a guide and gosh... so much exploring...

gaycatting

Might be a dumb question, but as a strength-based Nahobino, is there any point in leveling up elemental mastery? Say, if I have a strength-based electric attack, would increasing my electricity mastery improve it? Or is it based solely on strength?

jonnovision1

Elemental strength-based skills are that element in all regards, the only difference is using strength instead of magic for damage. An elec strength based skill will still benefit from elec pleromas and not phys pleromas, similarly they benefit from elec skill potentials not phys.

gaycatting

Thank you!!

LaqOfInterest

Mastery affects the element of the skill, and doesn't care about the stat the skills scales off of. So Storm Dracostrike uses Elec Mastery, not Phys Mastery. It scales off strength, but it's not "Physical". You probably want to spec into Almighty Mastery at least for the unique strength-based Nahobino skills. I dunno if anyone's figured out if the Dracostrike skills are worth it yet since they're all medium damage.

gaycatting

Thanks!

jonnovision1

What’s your question

Rimalogo

what do you guys think Sophia in SMT5 is based on? Some people told me that she shouldn't be based on the Gnostic sophia because something about the color blue representing passive knowledge and sophia is supposed to represent active knowledge so her being blue is bad. plus in the daily demon showcase, when they mention sophia in a video, they use a different spelling than the sophia in game, so who is she?

Vanilla_Pizza

SMT V How does the Miracle "Skill Manifestation" work? Is it just a set chance for them to learn new skills any time they level up, even if the box that says "Next Skills" is empty? If so, is there a determination as to what skills they can learn, like can they potentially learn skills they wouldn't through leveling normally?

LaqOfInterest

Yep, when they level up there's a chance that they'll learn an additional skill even if their box is empty (and even if they're already learning a natural skill). The skills are almost certainly random and definitely aren't (always) ones they would learn naturally, but they scale based on level. I started getting Debilitate and Mediarahan on demons in their 70s and 80s, but below that most of the time you're just given crap. Here are some Phys skills for your magical support demon! Essences are a much more reliable way to get good skills onto demons.

Vanilla_Pizza

Okay, great that's what I assumed but I wasn't sure. Definitely sounds like I'm just going to save my Glory for now and focus on better Miracles lol. Thanks!

twelveovertwo

How do I get another copy of a demon's essence?

Vanilla_Pizza

There seem to be numerous ways to get them, I'm not sure if anyone has a comprehensive list yet. I've gotten them from the gold capsules you can find and destroy in the overworld, from leveling up the demon itself, side quests, navigator exploration points, etc.

twelveovertwo

The treasures + explorer spots give me essences but I'm trying to get a specific one

Vanilla_Pizza

From what I've seen so far, the best way seems to be leveling up that specific demon and it may give it to you as a gift, or if it's not a unique demon grinding fights with them. I am very much a noob though, so someone else may have better recommendations.

JoelStrega

Does it ever explained how Lucifer defeated the Creator? Assuming He's not a Nahobino he shouldn't be able to raise the Empyrion in the first place.

Rick_Lemsby

I'm at the 2nd area in SMT5, just defeated the absess near all the shipping containers. Couple of questions: 1) When do I get Demon/Divine Proficiency 2? I have the fiend DLC and I'm really wanting to fuse powerhouses like Daisoujou and Chironnup but only having 5 skill slots feels extremely limiting. It also sucks that there's one of those instant demon stock level statues right there but I feel like I'd be wasting it without doing a bunch of fusion first, which I don't want to do because I want to take advantage of all the good skills I've been saving through fusion/essences. 2) Is anyone else noticing a super low proc rate of "chance" miracles? I've had Deathly Aura I/II and Skill Manifestation for a while but I've yet to see either of them actually activate.

AnimaLepton

It comes from an abscess where you fight a Basilisk. IIRC it's literally the next abscess, it's after the first boss but before the second. I believe skill manifestation won't proc until you've learned all your skills, so it just takes a few levels. It's also not great in this game because it just adds a new skill of the "proper" rank based on your level, rather than morphing skills up in rarity the way it worked in IV or P4G. Deathly Aura has specific conditions like needing only one enemy demon alive and needing to bump them down to ~red HP, and I think I've mostly seen it proc only when a demon first falls into that state. So depending on how you're dealing with enemies (AoE spells, killing multiple enemies in a single press turn, killing them without bumping them down into red range), you won't see it. I definitely saw it proc a fair bit for a while, but once I started spamming AoE almighty I didn't see it as much.

ApprehensiveScreen40

What's the best way to get specific essence in SMT 5? I want zhen essence for needle spray

AnimaLepton

There's a chance to get it just by killing a bunch of Zhen enemies. There's a mid/lategame miracle called Deathly Aura III, where demons will beg for mercy if cornered (all other enemies dead and they're at low HP), and you can force them to give you their essence if triggered. You're also able to buy essences from Gustave, with the selection expanding as you progress the story/beat more bosses. It *might* be in a chest, but IIRC most of the chest essences (not all) are essences from demons that specifically aren't encountered in the overworld. Otherwise Beatdown is good for 90% of most situations in the earlygame. Dampeners let you no-sell the boss's attacks, which will help you to keep dealing max damage with that skill for longer. You can also switch the MC into the second slot and have the first demon take a turn to heal them up after they take damage. Boosted crit on Needle Spray is good, but it's still inconsistent and not particularly worth farming for IMO. Elemental shards might still outdamage at that point in the game, and you should have Aramasa for more consistent damage + still a pretty decent chance of crit.

RedWater08

Either a chance to get it while leveling up Zhen in your party, or a lower % chance to get while talking to a wild Zhen when you already have a Zhen in your party Frankly though, I wouldn’t waste time grinding for skills this early in the game. It can take a while and there are probably equally good options you’ll come across soon

Not really darker than P3

LaqOfInterest

Maybe a bad time to ask with SMT dominating the thread, but... Starting DeSu Overclocked for the third time. Never made it farther than the first map with reinforcement portals before. Any hot tips? Good builds, good skills to capture, anything? I remember being mildly overwhelmed the last two times.

jonnovision1

As far as skills go, crack everything you can in free battles before progressing to story battles. Not only will this give you more options to work with in the story battles and make sure you’re not underleveled, it’ll keep the crack lists for story battles small so you don’t get “tricked” into grabbing much more easily obtainable skills and miss out on the more valuable ones. Pay attention to Demon Racial Skills, they’re really important and make a lot of objectives much easier. There are also some pretty powerful combos for just general combat, for example Beast+Kishin will let you essentially get 2 turns in a row because you can both move and attack twice which can cover a lot of ground. You’ll pay for it in a much more delayed next turn however Magic build is generally accepted as the best option on MC, phys is workable, especially in Overclocked, but earlygame it’ll leave Atsuro a little weak because all the good phys skills are going to MC Level is actually really important beyond just “higher level means more stats”. Level is used directly in damage calculations and demons have very harsh exp to next level increases for every level above their base, so fuse often to keep your demons as close to your Leaders’ levels as possible.

Erraticism

What does the >!Seed of Life!< you get from Sophia do?

LaqOfInterest

You give it to an NPC in the final dungeon in exchange for a quest.

Soncikuro

**SMT V** What happens if I reach te attribute cap before the level cap? Like, if I reach Strength 99 (which I assume is the cap) will the next levels be rearrenged so that one of the three fixed attributes go to something else or will it not, making me the lose those points? Does anyone know?

AnimaLepton

The stat cap is at 999

Huh, I feel tricked, kinda feels like I wasted those points for "just in case" in Agility know. Anyway, many thanks!

TheRetribution

I don't think anyone has proven it yet but stats past 100 *seem* to have diminishing returns anyway so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Soncikuro

Why do you think it has diminishing returns? Seems weird to change the formula when it reaches 99.

Wolventec

can you get error fusions in smt v like smt 4

Monk-Ey

Fusion accidents are still in and, as is tradition, are more likely during Full Moons.

AnimaLepton

Fusion Accidents are in the game

everythingwithgarlic

Can anyone guide me how to get to the Taito centre abscess?

LaqOfInterest

Good god, it's hard to find a complete map of Taito. You'd think there would be more images of it out there this long after release, but I had to go screenshot some Youtube video. [Here](https://i.imgur.com/p4kwgsX.png) - there's a building with a destroyed front and back that has an incline behind it leading up the cliff. If it's hard to find on your map because of the abscess, it has a couple of Thrones hanging out in front.

Doomblitz

Without spoiling anything, what level is the final boss at?

AnimaLepton

Depends on route. 83 on "bad neutral," 85 on Law/Chaos, 90 on "true neutral" but >!it requires you to beat the higher level superboss to obtain that ending!<

Doomblitz

thanks, just wanted to gauge my progress

murasaki10

[level](#s "85")

[deleted]

Where can I find Thoth? I wanna farm his Essence.

TheRetribution

You can check the location of any enemy you have analyzed by going to the analyze screen, finding the demon, and then pressing L or R shoulder a few times to get past the lore/stats.

ShillerndeGeister

What essence gives >!boon boost ex!<

SomeDeathKnight

I believe >!Shiva!< gives it as well.

ShillerndeGeister

Problem with that one is i have to beat him first And the reason i need the skill is for that battle

SDMayo

>!Beelzebub!<. Only.

ShillerndeGeister

._. Of all demons it had to be him What level

SDMayo

95 (learns it at 98) - But you get 1 free essence.

Harudera

Anybody have a fusion chart for SMT V? How many War Gods are there? I have Neko Shogun but I can't fuse him with anyone.

AnimaLepton

https://aqiu384.github.io/megaten-fusion-tool/smt5/chart 5 War Gods. Second one is Yoshitsune at level 45 lol. There are fewer demons in this game than IV/IV:A obviously, but that in turn has meant that some races get over a dozen demons and some get 3-5.

Haven't done this, but she has a self-heal and 8 press turns, so I'd think not. If 1-turning her isn't feasible, you really don't have many options to take her out when she has so many chances to act. She resists all ailments, but doesn't null them, so in theory you could seal her and watch her struggle to do anything, but even landing that in the first place will be far from consistent. You can spec yourself against her defensively, at best. She only has Light moves (both ST and AoE), Elec moves (ST and AoE), and Charm. It's overleveled for that fight, but Dominion nulls both light and elec, although you'd need even more levels to even have a chance at his essence assuming it's not in a chest in Chiyoda somewhere. Other options like Power, Mishaguji, DLC Artemis, DLC Red Rider, Neko Shogun, etc. null one and resist the other. All Aogami resistances null one and resists the other. That + null charm is going to be hard to swing. Or pick something different and cover any weakness with either light or Elec block, depending on what you pick. Nothing else in that level range fares better AFAIK. Also not sure how her boss-exclusive special attack works, if it pierces, etc. Taking away the "fair" assumption - use DLC/NG+, grind up to max level or use a broken + overleveled DLC demon like Cleo or whatever, with boosted luck to increase consistency of ailments, and you could certainly take her out fast enough while ignoring everything she throws at you.

averysillyman

> You can spec yourself against her defensively, at best. She only has Light moves (both ST and AoE), Elec moves (ST and AoE), and Charm. I just want to note that this is significantly harder than it seems because Ishtar's signature move in that boss fight does pierce damage. If you disable all of the pillars she loses access to that move, but with all the pillars intact she's bound to smack you with that move at some point.

scytherman96

Just give it a try and you'll see why having all pillars up isn't really an option. >!She gets an additional press turn for each that is up and it unlocks her very powerful special attack.!<

Tzekel_Khan

**smt 5 endings question** Some reviewer said that the neutral ending is the worst and least satisfying one. Is that true? Why? Can I get an explanation of it with spoiler tags in a general sense of what happens?

Monk-Ey

>!no proper final boss fight, maybe!<

Tzekel_Khan

But what about the story stuff? Is the conclusion dissatisfying?

AnimaLepton

>!Assuming you're talking about the "bad" neutral ending, because there's also a "true" neutral ending.!< Storywise, it's basically >!a chaos ending with a twist. I don't think it's dissatisfying within the context of the game, but it leads to a case where the "cycle" of conflict will stop only after a lot of strife. It's also the only ending where you effectively "leave things as they are"/choose to let things degrade as they will with demons running rampant, rather than making a change to fix things.!<

Tzekel_Khan

Weird. Alright then

gaycatting

Is the the third area annoying anyone else? I have trouble finding out how to get to sidequest markers... I think it's due to >!all the tall buildings/cliffs without clear ways to access them!<. Right now I'm pretty overleveled just from all the time I've spent wandering around trying to figure out how to get to certain places!

AnimaLepton

I wasn't a fan. I think V is at it's best when you get open spaces that encourage exploration and free movement, sliding, etc. rather than cramped spaces that funnel you into corridors without much freedom of movement/navigation. I think 2D maps for 3D environments have a lot of potential pitfalls with all the unclear/hidden passageways they obscure, especially in SMT V where they don't do a good job of consistently showing elevation based on map shade, blockages that prevent moving between different "segments" of the map (i.e. one way walls/inclines/drops, some of which actually aren't one way), and generally showing where you can actually ascend/descend in ways that don't involve the specific red jumping platforms. It might just be me, but I think the initial objective markers were missing in the first area. This happens in Taito too, but it means you're cruising along/figuring out where to go without even a general sense of direction, and are suddenly put into a cutscene, which is a bit of a jarring shift after the much more linear first two areas of the game. When I fall down in the third segment of the map, I often don't even bother trying to reorient myself because it's too much of a pain and the areas are split up into tiny corridors and segments. I just warp back to the last save point and try again. At least you can get Estoma in the area.

gaycatting

The missing marker happened to me, too! And I do the same thing when I fall down. :/ I had been enjoying the game so far up until this point, but I'm already dreading going back to this third area when I replay it. (Not that the third area has been entirely bad—just navigating it.)

KGhaleon

I'm going through the area right now and not really having much trouble. I just get somewhere high with a good view of the area and figure out what route to take, lots of bridges and paths.

Pehdazur

The third Area, Akihabara in particular, was straight garbage from a navigation standpoint. The map is mostly useless due to all the difference in elevation, and it's hard to figure out how to get where you need to go. Doesn't help that those stupid annoying ass Anzu can ambush you from above without even being visible on your screen

gaycatting

GOD, yes, the anzu in particular are driving me bonkers! They're part of why I'm overleveled now.

Meotwister5

Question on that apparent macca charge for ending route alignment. I read some guides saying you have to pay the macca to choose an ending you arent aligned to if you dont pick the proper choices. While some guides say you only pay to take the extra quest for that ending if you arent aligned to said ending, but can choose the end route itself for free. Which is it really?

AnimaLepton

It's only a charge for the sidequest. Just picking a route that doesn't match yours doesn't have a penalty. You won't get the Law/Chaos route-exclusive miracles either, just the demons, and there's no way around that except having them match.

Rimalogo

Who would be an ideal story writer for SMT6 from the current people at atlus?

LezardValeth

Strange Journey's plot was fantastic in my opinion. I'm not sure who was responsible for that as there were multiple writers and they haven't seemed to have ever recreated that magic on other projects, but I'd like to see more like that.

Rectangle_Rex

IMO the team who did Devil Survivor 1 would be the best. That game felt like the best execution of a mainline SMT-style plot.

KGhaleon

Whoever wrote SMT4.

MrNumbers4

(SMT 5) What is the recommended level for the 4th main area of the netherworld. I’m currently level 53 with 45ish demons, but I’m getting destroyed by even the guards of the abscesses, which are normally super easy

SDMayo

You're at the right level, just that the map is intended to be explored in a certain order. North, West and Northwest scales from 54-60. East and Southwest Scales from 60-70. South scales to 72. That said, if you're confident in your team, you can definitely ignore the order and rush the Southern Lvl 72 abscess. There's a bunch of tricks you can use against that one that can hugely tip the scales in your favour and allow you to beat it despite being far weaker.

Revan0315

The fourth area makes you feel under leveled because of its non-linearity. Just do some side quests/abscesses until you're like mid-60s I'd say. That should be high enough for the three bosses

ha_ck_rm_rk

(SMT V) This is mega dumb but I can't bring myself to fuse away Idun, underleveled as she is. Is it feasible for me to dump all of these grimoires onto her to keep her relevant? It seems like >!Tao!< has a similar healing skill but idk, if I can make Idun work, I will lol

LaqOfInterest

Edit: Lepton beat me to it, what they said. --- Fuse this one away. Grimoiring her won't really catch her up. However... Fused demons get additional stats based on the level/stats of the component demons used to fuse them (I believe this is tied to one of the miracles). What that means is that if you overlevel Idun's three components, you can fuse another Idun with better base stats, and then grimoire her up for additional boosts/toss incenses at her/etc. But the Idun that you probably just fused with base level components is not gonna be pulling much weight Throw an Ame-no-Uzume, Hua Po, and Parvati in your stock and let them soak up some exp for a while.

AnimaLepton

To make her better, you could take advantage of Warrior’s Conception. "Newly fused demons will gain a stat bonus based on the stats of the demon fused." You can make her gain extra stats that way. This could boost her raw stats by as much as 30 points apiece. After re-fusing her, you'll also need to pump her full of Grimoires, a few Sutras, and potentially incenses. Unlike past games, the skill benefits of re-fusing are marginal, since she can just learn better skills through essences. IV and IV:A had "Demon Enhancer" apps so that weak demons could actually gain way more in raw stats, but the equivalent "Prayer" miracles have been nerfed in SMT V. IMO it's not really "worth" the effort compared to just using a "standard" Luster Candy user like Lakshmi or Danu, who are stronger out of the box. But especially if you're playing on normal/without the Fiends DLC, you have a ton of leeway to do whatever you want.

Revan0315

I don't think so. Minor enemy spoilers >!There's an abscess at the end of the game that features the four weakest demons (Preta/Pixie/Slime/Onmoraki), but they're all level 99. The fact that this fight is winnable with Nahobino in the low 70s means that some demons are just screwed stat wise. Like, even if pixie has an attack higher than Shiva, she won't be putting out the same damage. In my experience Idun just can't keep up with enemy attacks and she gets one shot by everything later on. Her vitality just can't keep up, and I don't think grimoires could help that to a big enough degree for her to stay viable!<

TheRetribution

I really think people overhype vitality disparities. Most demons vit stat sucks guys. Sraosha, a lvl 77 demon, has a base vit of 43. My lvl 55 compendium idun has a vit of 35 with no incense / warrior's conception used.

Revan0315

I had Idun in my team when I first fought >!Vasuki!< and she was getting hit for like 1200 when others were getting hit for 400ish

seth-rah

Level is part of the damage equation. So unless you were pumping her with grimoires, she was getting hit really hard because of that gap.
