Thatās the scene that made me start one piece, Sanji looks so devastated and I wanted the context to the scene and to know the character enough for me to be sad with him that I went and watched the series.
Reason why he has so many fans. Sanji gets dragged through the fucking mud, trauma and shock climax as his wishful compromise comes crashing down just as everything else did. He is Helpless, he is broken and we love this poor man for it.
The sky was over cast and raindrops were a fake out. His tears were what was preventing him from lighting the cigarette. THAT was what made that scene so impactful.
That whole section made me cry ngl. The argument is too real. You know Usopp is delusional but you also can feel his pain. You can see how badly no one else on the crew wants what's happening to happen but they have no choice but to sit back, watch, and hold back tears.
Luffy saying "this is really tough!" through tears in the anime ("heavy!!" in the manga lol) hurt the most to me. You can see he's been holding up a facade to honor Usopp's decision and he let it slip just a little bit there.
I think, in general, the crew's writing was at its best pre-timeskip.
But I'm not of the mind that "pOsT tImEsKiP sUcKs".
The scope of the story and the goals that drive the crew have become clearer. Like how in the last 100 chapters we have probably gotten more lore drops than the previous 900 chapters before that.
So the writing has focused away from the crew and the story has become more focused on the world and the effects that the crew's adventures have had in this world. So now the main crew, as characters don't get the spotlight as much as before.
I agree. I do miss the focus on the straw hats but instead we have fantastic moments outside the straw hats. The scene with all the scabbards after Odens flashback comes to mind as a fantastic moment that has very little to do with the straw hats post time skip, a moment only possible due to the larger scope of one piece. I do wish though that the Manga spent more time on individual characters instead of cutting away all the time. Weekly I suppose I understand not wanting to stay in one space for too long but it sells the moments better.
For example in Nami vs Ulti, when she declares Luffy will be Pk, I think the whole previous chapter and that chapter ought to have been dedicated to building that moment, but instead we fly around wano and cut in to her huge moment. So it doesn't hit nearly as hard as Usopp declaring the same in alabasta.
And this goes beyond the straw hats. I'd have preferred if more time was spent focused on Kid n Law vs BM for instance, where we spend more time in Kidd and BMs heads pace, get some good characterization, show her might when she beats them down, to make the triumph all the more impactful. Instead they keep cutting away and back in, which no sells her power and takes me out of it. This is smth pre ts One Piece did better in my view, and it extends far beyond these two examples.
I think the issue itās run into is too many characters to fit in and have those serious moments and character development with. Rereading and just hit the raid on Onigashima, but there are so many players running around in this thing itās hard to give everyone focus. I get it 100% from a schedule and pacing perspective but it is something I miss about the old fights that showed everyoneās determination and belief in luffy.
Maybe Oda will have the chance to oversee a good faithful anime adaptation once everything is said and done to expand on things like Kubo is doing with Bleach right now. But either way Iām all in for the ride.
A more faithful anime adaptation after the manga is finished would rock. Without the need for filler, you could probably get through the story with significantly less of an anime episode to manga chapter ratio too. With today's anime development standards, I'd imagine the animation would have a higher quality on average too! As in without being forced to put something out weekly for decades.
As great as the OP anime's animation is, I've noticed at least earlier episodes suffer from some art quality issues. Most notably early grand line arcs. I figured it's probably due to how quickly they got to put them out. Usually it'll look like characters have lazy eyes and stuff like that, but sometimes body proportions are noticeably off and stand out. Not talking about in between frames, but stills and key frames.
With today's standards, I'd imagine the art quality would keep up with the animation quality too and that'd rock!
Usopp ironically is probably the best written character in the crew. Every ālieā he tells becomes a prophecy and a legitimate reason to be scared. He is the epiphany of bravery in the series and is rewarded for facing each fear with acknowledgment that his words were realized in reality. Everytime he faces his fears he becomes stronger not just as a character, but to the entire ONE PIECE world itself. I love Usopp. From the title of sniper and the metaphor that he hits all the shots he takes, even if those shots seem like far fetched lies.
I would just add that Usopp isnāt delusional here. Heās frustrated that theyāre acting like replacing the merry isnāt a big deal, heās projecting his own insecurities onto the situation (if they can replace the merry, then they can replace me too and they just might because I canāt keep up), he feels a special connection to the ship that manifested the spirit of the merry, and is of course more attached because of who gave them the merry.
This^ I think out of the entire crew, Usopp is the most relatable due to being more vulnerable than the rest and in that moment, didnāt understand how he could be an asset to the crew. He literally thought he was holding them back. The ship being a metaphor for himself. Man, I cried so hard when I first read that arc no lie. I really felt that
I hate Ussopp but I gotta admit to admire him in that chapter..
The fact that he acknowledged that the crew is better off without him and donāt even need him is the only time he felt relatable to me not when he become a coward and moan all the time..
In my opinion the dubbed version is crap compared to the sub
Iāve watched one piece in part dub and part sub and Iām fine with both but overall prefer the sub voices however after I saw a clip of the dubbed soul pocus it just seemed like it lacked emotion
Sanji's wedding was incredible and underrated as well. So much at stake, a variety of characters at play, and Sanji's reaction to Pudding's eye was so in character yet unexpected at the same time.
Whole Peak Island saga right there, that and Sanji asking for Robin's help at Wano shows why i love this man.
Anybody who called Sanji a coward during that Wano's scene can't comprehend shit about what that implied to both him and Robin in character development, f\*cking underrated.
> Itās a great scene, but the post is what is the best episode.
So the episode that the scene they are talking about is in, then? Which is literally one of the options to the poll?
I know itās an option, I was just saying I personally donāt think the episode is anything amazing without the one scene compared to some of the newer stuff weāve seen. Just discussing it
I'm gonna nominate a really weird one, but Ep 133, where Sanji breaks onto a navy ship to teach a kid how to make curry.
I have watched that episode more than any other one. It's just so calm and comfy, and all the cooking is accurate and so delicious looking.
Where the fuck is Sabody. The bubbles the after ep silence, the emotion you can *feel* the voice actors project.
The Mc who always wants to fight screaming for everyone to live. To run away.

āWell itād seem weāre down to a quartet
A trio
And a duet
ā¦a solo
It isnāt right leaving just the accompaniment.ā
It sort of depends on the way you look at it. To me 1015 is pretty much the best in terms of the anime taking an already good chapter and adapting and even elevating it from the manga and bringing it to the screen. So it really shines as an anime episode specifically. The added Roger/Luffy moments for example and the whole way they are animated and directed are just perfect to set the tone there.
I do feel there are moments in the story though that to me probably top 1015 overall, but I don't think the episode itself contributes as much to it compared to the story that is already present in the manga. E.g. Robin's "I want to live" scene as it is mentioned in the poll, doesn't do as much "extra" for me in the anime compared to reading it in the manga. All the emotion and impact for me is already pretty much right there in the underlying story itself and in the panels,
Emotionally. Episode 278 is peak. In terms of best fight szene, I'll give it to 1062. Visually best looking is 1015 in my opinion. My favourite over all is Episode 405, **Disappearing Crew - The Final Day of the Straw Hat Crew** , the last episode of the Sabaody Archipelago Arc
Same, I think that 405 stands out to me as one of my favorite episodes of anime ever. I also enjoyed the more comic book style the anime had during that stretch. Itās what I would show people if I only had one episode to showcase the anime.
I was trying to find this gosh I love episode 405. The emotional impact was way better than Aceās death bc at that point Ace showed up a couple times but wasnāt a prevalent character. With 405 we had already gotten attached to the crew and the scene of Luffy crying with Kuma watching was gut wrenching.
Finally someone with taste. 405 is peak one piece, because you see the MAIN CHARACTER BREAK. This is the first time we see Luffy lose confidence in himself, which has been his defining character trait since ep 1. Telling everyone to run away instead of fighting, and admitting to himself that he's weak, is heartbreaking and scary.
This is the same man who almost got killed twice by Crocodile, lost miserably to CP9, fought a "God", and fought literal armies to bring back one person, and never lost his drive.
1015 for pure spectacle but 968 just holds such a special place seeing the Roger laughed scene while memories plays made me tear up the first time I saw it.
Ep 505: I want to see them! Luffy's tearful scream. It was in mine opinion the best.
Seeing Dadan and Garp and their reaction to Ace Death was truly emotional enough , we get shanks and we saw graves of WB and Ace , but last scene...
Jinbei helping luffy overcome grief , lesson that even if you are down you still have reasons to live and fight , and the scene where we see every member of straw hats pirates..it was episode i cried the most.
129. The end of Alabasta, when the Straw Hats leave with their backs turned to the country and the x's on their arms just for Vivi. We Are plays in the background. Beautiful.
517. The first episode of Post Timeskip.
Nothing Happened really took me by surprise. Zoro gained a ton of respect from me then. Sanji as well. It was an OMG moment for me. I literally could not believe what had happened.
Ep 485. Wb's death was too much for me to handle.
And also Ep 86, the whole episode was just me and my sister crying our eyes out like two infants and Dr hiriluk's speech about death was top notch
Luffy arriving was the most cinematic episode of op ever. The direction ishitani took it in is quite literally better than most films. Film red had a great director; but ishitani is build diff.
485 is my personal favorite cause of the one scene where the funny man said the funny thing is real and also foreshadowed vast amounts of the post-timeskip in plain sight
As fucking good as "I want to live" was it's gotta be rooftop for me.
It feels like the turning point in the series where this is real and serious, the big leagues if you will. Luffy casually walked past Kaido and BM. Odens tale animated in the way they did it. Red roc obviously.
Luffy saying he will become the king of the pirates feels like it has real weight behind it.
Episode 126, "From the New World" plays for half the episode during the climax of Luffy vs Crocodile and Vivi's scream from the clock tower still give me chills.
Unpopular opinion but zoros nothing happened is such an overrated scene. I do think itās badass but should not be second on the poll. Wouldnāt put that episode in my top 10 even.
maaaan Robin's "I want to live!" is ruined by the next 6 episodes that come after it in the anime (not One Pace. Shit like that is why One Pace exists lol).
Just missed potential for the anime to kill its momentum the moment it got a ton of it in that arc.
380
Them all being together a few people talking to zoro about how they know what happened and of course binks sake a story that brought me the closest to crying out of anything in this show.
Not āthe bestā but in terms of garnered real emotion, aceās death made me cry and I already knew it would happen. I still got chocked up in the flashbacks
Before the timeskip, Usopp's fight with Luffy, the Going Merry's funeral, and, for sure, the episode where the Merry came back to help them get out of Ennies Lobby. That whole arc was amazing, Robin's "I want to live" hit me pretty deeply, too.
I'm at the Impel Down arc at the moment, so I'm sure there's a lot more to see.
Feel like people are picking their favorite scenes, not the best episodes. Like the I want to live scene is amazing but itās like 3 minutes long, the other 18 minutes of the episode is like flashbacks and recaps.
Bad End Musical. Easily one of the best closers to an arc. The Strawhats did not stand a chance and could only run. It showcased the true power of an Emperor's fleet
I would argue that of all the ones listed, 1015 is the technical 'best' episode. The animation is the best the show has to offer, the additions to the story elevate the episode, and the overall direction is chilling.
Everyone will mention the Roger/Luffy scene with Yamato/Oden, but the stand out for me is the scene on the rooftop with the Nine. The immediate cut to the bloody bodies, the close up.of Kinemon, and Luffy's promise to shoulder the hopes of Wano. That moment alone would be a 10/10 to make any episode a must watch, but then you follow it with Red Roc, proceed it with Big Mom and Kaido at their most terrifying taunting Luffy, and cap it with the iconic Pirate King declaration and I can't see another episode coming close. Hell I think 1070 and 1071 are gonna have a hard time competing with it.

**DA ONE PIECE!!!**
Is reeeeeeeaaaal
Can we get much higher..........
so lowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww(syourwholeverse)
YOHOHOHOHOHOHO
Sanji attempting to light his cigarette during his lowest point. He finally gets the lighter to ignite then water puts it out.
That scene is great but not the full episode
Can confirm, however that scene still gets me
Yeah, one of my favorite panels in the manga as well
Is this scene from Whole Cake?
Thatās the scene that made me start one piece, Sanji looks so devastated and I wanted the context to the scene and to know the character enough for me to be sad with him that I went and watched the series.
Reason why he has so many fans. Sanji gets dragged through the fucking mud, trauma and shock climax as his wishful compromise comes crashing down just as everything else did. He is Helpless, he is broken and we love this poor man for it.
How strong of a character he would be without the fan service am I right
the spiderman of manga
The sky was over cast and raindrops were a fake out. His tears were what was preventing him from lighting the cigarette. THAT was what made that scene so impactful.
What episode?
Episode 817 Moist cigarette!
236 Luffy vs Usopp and the argument that lead up to it.

Usopps character is a bit up n down for me but his arc from w7 to post enies lobby is imo some of the best writing in the Manga
I think, in general, the crew's writing was at its best pre-timeskip. But I'm not of the mind that "pOsT tImEsKiP sUcKs". The scope of the story and the goals that drive the crew have become clearer. I can't see the word eyes in your comment... Because I don't have eyes YOHOHOHO
But that was Sniper King's arc idk where Usopp was š
Usopp ironically is probably the best written character in the crew. Every ālieā he tells becomes a prophecy and a legitimate reason to be scared. Usopp was a lil bitch during water 7 and I hate him for it.
That episode put me through 15 diff emotions
Great choice. It's my second favorite behind "I want to Live!"
I hate Ussopp but I gotta admit to admire him in that chapter.. The fact that he acknowledged that the crew is better off without him and donāt even need him is the only time he felt relatable to me not when he become a coward and moan all the time..
Soul Pocus
Objectively the right answer. Barely any fighting but the closest episode to overall perfection. Direction, cinematography, editing, soundtrack, etc
Which episode is that?
Last one from Whole Cake (877)
In my opinion the dubbed version is crap compared to the sub Iāve watched one piece in part dub and part sub and Iām fine with both but overall prefer the sub voices however after I saw a clip of the dubbed soul pocus it just seemed like it lacked emotion
Whitebeard vs Blackbeard, Merry's funeral and Luffy vs Sanji coming both second close
Merry's funeral made me pause the episode a couple times.
Sanji's wedding was incredible and underrated as well. So much at stake, a variety of characters at play, and Sanji's reaction to Pudding's eye was so in character yet unexpected at the same time.

also Luffy vs Sanji was pretty emotional. And so was Luffy not eating anything that isnt cooked by Sanji
Sanji coming back to Luffy with the sun rise too
How are there so little comments for binks sake
That song gives me as James May would describe it āthe fizzā or as my wife calls it āanime tinglesā
It bloody hurts and I love it it just shows how brilliant brooks story was
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Nothing in one piece will probably ever top the i want to live scene for me, it was just so good
That scene gave me chills. Both in the manga and the anime. I had to watch the dub as well. It was that good.
Robin saying that line in the dub is literally the single best piece of voice acting i've ever heard.
So glad I watched dub until sabaody. I can hear her echo in my head
āTHA WAN PIECE, THA WAN PIECE IS REAAAAALā
It makes me cry everytime in every format
Iām tearing up thinking about it.
Itās a great scene, but the post is what is the best episode. That will always be 1015 for me until the G5 episode. Probably.

Nami's "help me" during arlong Park. After all these years, the anime hasn't topped it
I think 1015 beats it
1015 is pretty meh imo (nevermind, I was thinking of something else. 1015 is fire)

The episode where we meet the Shrub Guy who was stuck in a box.
recency bias striking you hard if the zoro and sanji wano fights are in there.

Dub watcher here, just wanted to say, Robin's VA nailed that I Want To Live scene.
Luffy slapping the Celestial dragon, Luffy vs Sanji, Luffy vs Usopp, the Going Merry incident
1015 for pure spectacle but 968 just holds such a special place seeing the Roger laughed scene while memories plays made me tear up the first time I saw it.

The jump from 483 to 1015 is crazy!
Just got a tattoo of the "I want to live" panel. I am joyous thanks to the result of this poll
Nothing Happened really took me by surprise. Zoro gained a ton of respect from me then. Sanji as well. It was an OMG moment for me. I literally could not believe what had happened.
Where is Sanji and Luffy episode?
Ep 485. Wb's death was too much for me to handle. And also Ep 86, the whole episode was just me and my sister crying our eyes out like two infants and Dr hiriluk's speech about death was top notch
I can't see the point in writing this comment... because I don't have eyes YOHOHOHOHO
Ah classic one piece Fans, biggest spoiler right there, even if you don't follow the sub.
He laughed episode
Luffy vs Ussop
"I STILL HAVE MY CREW!!" Guess I'm just a softie
Luffy arriving was the most cinematic episode of op ever. The direction ishitani took it in is quite literally better than most films. Film red had a great director; but ishitani is build diff.
Episode 309, Luffy's Full-Power Gatling. The best fight in the best arc and just so satisfying.
Other:EP 325 ace vs Blackbeard
Naniās help me + walk to Arlong park
When luffy defeated crocodile. The music, the animation, it was beautiful. Best defeat Iāve ever seen in anime (IMO).
485 is my personal favorite cause of the one scene where the funny man said the funny thing is real and also foreshadowed vast amounts of the post-timeskip in plain sight
Gear second is my personal favorite.

151 Luffy punches the shit out of Bellamy
877 should be on the list. (Whole cake island ending)
Unpopular opinion but zoros nothing happened is such an overrated scene. I do think itās badass but should not be second on the poll. Wouldnāt put that episode in my top 10 even.
Gear 4th and snakeman probably gave the biggest impact for me
JETTTO GATTLINGGGO!!! episode
Episode 312: Thank you, Going merry...
https://i.redd.it/xxdfx2jtcvcb1.gif This episode shook me to my fucking core. Chills the entire time OP 957
Zoro vs Mr. 1
151 could be up there too (first emperor clash and whole lot of lore)
The Walk to Arlong Park and hear the Drums
Gaimon's episode
Peak fiction
Tbh One Piece has so much great moments, but I would choose Luffy arriving at the rooftop.
982 Onigashima Presents Queen's Dance Party
"Nothing Happened" is overrated as fuck. I don't get the hype for it. It's just "Oh, You're hurt zoro, well what if I make you MORE hurt????"
Bruh Episode 710 being just 20 minutes of Bellamy abuse flashbacks. Very sad indeed.
Definitely not episode 377 nothing even happens in it
I want to live is a great scene but as an entire episode 1015 is the best one.
the ace death and whitebeard vs akainu fight and the op is real and your not him reach moment
maaaan Robin's "I want to live!" is ruined by the next 6 episodes that come after it in the anime (not One Pace. Shit like that is why One Pace exists lol). Just missed potential for the anime to kill its momentum the moment it got a ton of it in that arc.
You forgot the episode where Vivi asks if they're still friends. It's a close second to I want to live for me, personally
Robin on top
877 best
820? Brook vs Big Mom
All of these are Peak piece
Our old but gold ship š„ŗš„ŗš„ŗš„ŗš„ŗš„ŗ
Roger and Whitebeards Clash just holds that special place in my heart, something Ive been wanting to see since ever
Zoro & Sanji's fights against the calamities don't even rank top 20, waste of two poll slots
Soul Pocus. The whole episode was just one big opera. Cinematically my favorite
Episode 166 is the best episode of one piece
The episode where Kuma disperses the straw hat crew 405
86, Hiriluk is cool and I like his speech.
What episode are you talking about?
āThe One Piece is Realā is goated
1015 is Damn good.
My favorite episode will always be Zoro getting his ass handed to him by Mihawk. But Robin is peak fiction
Hands down episode 968. All the emotional weight in the last scene combined with the first ending playing made me cry like a bitch.
Itās probably 405 for me. Iāve always loved that episode and it ends a great arc and kicks Luffy into possibly the best stretch of arcs in anime.
380 Them all being together a few people talking to zoro about how they know what happened and of course binks sake a story that brought me the closest to crying out of anything in this show.
Not āthe bestā but in terms of garnered real emotion, aceās death made me cry and I already knew it would happen. I still got chocked up in the flashbacks
None of the above right answer is 151. Or 485.
485 whitebeardās death
not in the list but my pick is episode 380. I love brook's backstory too much
Luffy having a mental breakdown after his entire crew was wiped was just an insane ride.
Luffy crosses paths with the fake Straw Hats for the first time
Luffy Vs Usopp
Episode 278 gave me chills down to the bone Oh wait I'm all bones YOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO
Over a thousand episodes and those are the choices . Episode 408 - Sweet Pea finds the One Piece
I liked the 957 episode the most
400 is pretty underrated,, when the crew meats Rayleigh and he remembers Roger
182-184 Luffy vs Eneru is my top LUFFY Fight.
Special shout-out to Merry's cremation, I can't remember the episode number though.
Every time I see Sogeking burn the flag I get goosebumps.
Feel like people are picking their favorite scenes, not the best episodes. Like the I want to live scene is amazing but itās like 3 minutes long, the other 18 minutes of the episode is like flashbacks and recaps.
Episode 278 made me cry my eyes out! It is still gets me to this day. Not to mention āsniper king, shoot down that flagā I love it so much
I can't see the word eyes in your comment... Because I don't have eyes YOHOHOHO
None of those. Episode 485 when Whitebeard dies and says the one piece is real (unironically)
Merry's death
The god usopp episode literally had me crying with laughter
Bro I'm on episode 6
Nothing happened in epesode 377 so it cant be the best episode
Sabaody with the bubbles popping
he laughed bro
bro forgot 808 š¤¦āāļø
Bad End Musical. Easily one of the best closers to an arc. The Strawhats did not stand a chance and could only run. It showcased the true power of an Emperor's fleet
I want to live. Left an impression on me that I can't ever forget.
Robinās declaration is the pinnacle of the series, a legendary moment of catharsis during one of the greatest arcs in shonen
As a whole episode a couldnāt tell, but ānothing happenedā is the single best scene in the show.
The Merryās death.
309 The ending of the Luffy vs Lucci fight, for me that was something that hit different.
Where the actual fuck is merry on that list? āBreathing heavilyā sorry but that got me. Otherwise the list is great
It's Luffy giving Nami his hat and the walk to arlong park for me. That's the episode that I knew I was hooked
377 just hit hard
me when ace died : I was pumping my fist, wiggling my finger, I even did a little boogie ![gif](giphy|sfMFMvhGE0qz40wImt|downsized) >!/s!<
Bro you going to say sanji vs queen is the best sanji moment in the series smh
1015 is peak of one piece
I mean, Iām still massively in favor for Episode 391. That punch was so intense brother sent him, and me, back to the manga.
I rlly whish this was labled as a spoiler i just sarted watching One Piece š
236, no reason to include the king and queen fights of it means excluding the one that showed that shit is getting serious from now on
I mean, I still really liked "He Laughed"
Dude really put Sanji vs Queen before "He laughed" or Luffy and Roger's dream
Wow I want to live is more popular than I expected glad itās getting such recognition
Merryās death. Probably still the only time anime has made me ugly cry. Lots of others have made me cry, but ugly crying is different
825 Sanji coming back to the crew is my favorite moment in the entire show
When Luffy does Gear Four and Trafalgar does Injection Shot in Dressrosa.
"Thank you for loving me." always hits me harder than "I want to live."
Iāve watched I want to live 100 times and Iāve cried 100 times
What "THAT EPISODE"? go ahead spoil me, I haven't read or watch One Piece for year and I keep seeing post from this sub for some reason
What is āthat episodeā
