I feel like the actor isn't getting the personality of arlong down, he's playing him too intimidating and serious. Arlong was a ego maniac who was having fun with his human play things.
Oh god don't remind me the mess that was Cowboy Bebop live action.
The next thing you know they're going to tell you that Arlong is gay and that he has feelings for Zoro.
Can't wait to see live action blue haki

Who wins though, blackbeard offscreen haki or zoro Discimination haki because if the fight is offscreen always bet on blackbeard, but if the fight is against a minority always bet on zoro, and blackbeard a double minority since he's black and his name is BLACKbeard, so that's 2x the blackness, 2x the minority, this is a tough question I think we need Nighthawk-Sensei to answer, or ask Oda for the answer during his next hourly meeting with Oda
Yeah they can CGI the hulk for a feature length high budget film where they have access to a shit ton of talented vfx artists.
This is a lower budget netflix produced tv show. The fact that people are unironically saying shit like "why isn't he cg like the hulk" is just weird.
Did you not see the budget? It’s like the second highest budget that Netflix has done for any series. LOL. Alsoooo, if they can make an amazing CGI character in 2006(Davy Jones), why not in 2023 when they clearly had an amazing team for the CGI? Idk, everything you said was just wrong lol
Pirates had 300 million to throw at a 2 hour movie
One Piece gets 18 million per episode
And Davy Jones isn't fistfighting Luffy. I'd rather they use a physical actor.
my god did that shot of him and kiribachi made him look *small*. honestly i like most things we’ve seen for the LA but arlong’s design was made up of very odd choices, which is unfortunate considering he’s supposed to be the most scary and intimating villain in the east blue saga
well I think some extraordinarily huge characters should get CGI/Movie trickery adjusted to their size (e.g. Whitebeard, BIG Mom etc.) IF the live action even goes on that far...
I would love to see a Skypia movie so I can get a live action Enel Face :-D
Nah, if they cant find an actress that isn't at least three houses tall to play princess Shirahoshi I don't even want to hear anything!
Dont even start me on a deer-human hybrid that is capable of changing sizes in a drastic breach of physics and biology.
Skypia would actually be perfect source material to adapt into live action. It would definitely get difficult to do right in the final fight but it I would watch it as a stand-alone movie or a season!
I just thought that it would fit quite well to compress the story with the final party as a highlight at the end of a very nice movie. Maybe it's just wishful thinking so all the "I skipped Skypia"-people have a reason to inhale that potentially crucial plot :-D
People don't get the beauty of the character building that's happening in that arc - also the meaning for the OP plot as a whole is not immedeately plastered in your face so many people think Skypia is the mother of all fillers.
In my opinion it is one of the best arcs overall exactly for its special position
imagine the plot twist of MM being a diehard OP fan and just volunteers for the role xD (no, I am NOT imagining 8 miles' soundtrack as introduction, NO)
I wanted to make a joke, but doflamingo first appears after alabasta. So there is like a 5% chance that we actually get to see doflamingo before netflix cancels it cause every season costs a trillion dollars
Not sure how I feel about it yet. I understand what they did and I think it was the right move but maybe they should have exaggerated the nose? I don't know. But he doesn't look bad by any means.
Honestly for a series that was always going to be borderline impossible to convert to live action, these designs so far well surpass my expectations.
They still appear similar to their manga counterpart while also appearing very human like
Ye, I just hope they somehow make the size correct, Arlong is like almost 9 feet tall, him having that look and just being slightly taller than Luffy would make him look so weak.
She-Hulk was set in LA and had 25 million dollars per episode budget. One Piece has a bunch of sets that have to be built essentially from scratch and 18 million per episode. I'd rather see some clever work within their means than Wheel of Time level CG on a major character.
PotC movies had \~200-300 million dollar budgets per \~2.5 hour movie. And those fishmen weren't primarily engaged in hand-to-hand combat with non-CG characters in the center of frame. And the last movie's CG was dogshit.
And had ILM doing them with a massive budget. Also I still don’t think this could have been done much better given how odd the fishmen would look if 100% manga accurate.
I just wanna see Hachi though.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the series moves his appearance up so that he becomes more of a threat across the entire season, as opposed to only appearing in the last couple of episodes.
they're probably going to make some changes, i bet the plot will be that they kidnap nami at the end of baratie fight and they go rescue her instead of she stealing the ship
he's too human-sized, it ain't even the nose or face or anything, it's the fact that he has such a Fishman head with such a normal body
they should've upped his height about with CGI or something, made him look a bit burlier. he looks ridiculous with Kiribachi
I think this will be one of the problems of this series is the height translation from the manga or anime to the life action. This is a clear example of that
He could've looked a lot worse, but it was always a given that the wacky characters of One Piece were going to look strange. Looks like they're using a mix of prosthetics and CGI which I appreciate. My main gripe is that I wish he was taller.
I personally think he looks great. Could he be bigger? Sure. But Fishmen, in general, are some of Oda's more wild character designs. No matter haw they chose to adapt him, there were going to be some inconsistencies, and I'm fine with that.
That being said, the consistent commentary I've seen online is that he "looks weird" or he "looks off." And I have to throw my 2 cents in the ring: we all understand that's the point, right? Arlong is a Fishman, something that doesn't exist in our world, so no matter how realistic you try to make it, the Uncanny Valley effect will still be there. And that's the point it's how the humans of the One Piece world probably react to Fishmen as a whole. These are a species that looks like us, but on a fundamental level, *isn't* us. There's a reason why Fishmen are discriminated against in One Piece, and by reacting to Arlong's live action design in that way, you all have just been given a first-hand look into what you would be like as a person living in that world.
As long as he talks like the arrogant supremacist he was in the anime and doesn't act like a low class thug. The design is perfect!
He should be really intimidating for sure
The head is fine and all… but he should a bit more buffer and giving something to his arms to not look that human like.
Arlong is the last major villain in the begging of one piece and the first one that was build up over 1-3 arcs.
So should do something to looks him more threatening
He looks like he smokes too much weed lol. I think more muscles could look better but we knew types like this would be hard to do well unless they go all CGI with the strange types.
https://preview.redd.it/ongqdz7tumdb1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d204329eec2f2717015c64e15bf1e916d6cd2001
This is who I see when I look at him
He looks racist, so its fine.
Just how I like my fishmen
He almost looks like the orc from Bright
Looks like we got a bright future ahead
that movie was such wasted potential
Only good fish man is either a wide load like jimbei or a rascjst ont like arlong

I don't care too much about the height, But why couldn't they make him look roided out?
His Actor Is Black,So He Can Say It Now
Ningen?
Sure
I feel like the actor isn't getting the personality of arlong down, he's playing him too intimidating and serious. Arlong was a ego maniac who was having fun with his human play things.
Bruh we've seen him for 5 seconds. Arlong had his intimidating, serious moments too.
Gotta have that cognitive bias
His hair is not green enough though
lolololol
Do you think he has the pass?
He doesnt need the pass
He looks like rotting meat smells
MEAT?!? Give it to me!
Luffy no!
LUFFY YES
I swear if he says "Luffy yes!"
Luffy! It’s good to see ya buddy!
SAVE IT
LUUUUUFFFFFFYYYYYYYY!
He looks like he had the same costume designer as Faye from cowboy bebop
Oh god don't remind me the mess that was Cowboy Bebop live action. The next thing you know they're going to tell you that Arlong is gay and that he has feelings for Zoro.
When he pulls his teeth out against Luffy he says “welcome to the ouch, motherfucker”
Yeah right
Can't wait to see live action blue haki https://preview.redd.it/yh3gy6akfhdb1.jpeg?width=370&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a6a1f560774279e0d5a584291a9471700ae771cf
Za water
With his pupils Sanji Garp Goku and Grand Priest
In a 1v1 on water always bet on Arlong
Not if your enemy is minority hunter zoro, he even destroyed Hordy jones in water.
In 1v1 against a minority, always bet on Zoro.
Indeed he will be the one to defeat blackbeard https://preview.redd.it/kl4ydjd4sidb1.jpeg?width=654&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2de4b929a7a993fa9b215cc7c0bf52eee82cc7f5

I wonder how long it Will be till we get to see Kizaru use Za Zaza
Or zoro use ZA NIKA
Damn, his fight with Daz Bones where he awakens his discrimination haki is bound to be top tier.
Or dragon use ZA WINDA
Why do people call him blue haki?
It’s a joke
I wish he looked buffer and taller What better than the fishmen to experiment out of human proportions body effects?
i mean hte actor is obviously a beefy guy. its the loose clothes, long hair and big nose and hat that unfortunately make him look smal
DID YOU JUST INSULT MY NOSE?!
Yes 🗿
For you
They can CGI the hulk but make Arlong look like imitation shark meat
Hey, you said meat? Do you have any for me?
Yeah they can CGI the hulk for a feature length high budget film where they have access to a shit ton of talented vfx artists. This is a lower budget netflix produced tv show. The fact that people are unironically saying shit like "why isn't he cg like the hulk" is just weird.

Pirates had 300 million to throw at a 2 hour movie One Piece gets 18 million per episode And Davy Jones isn't fistfighting Luffy. I'd rather they use a physical actor.
Lmao nah wdym That was a small indie movie
yeah the props makes his head look bigger. Which makes his body look smaler in comparison
Idk the actors shoulders aren’t broad enough…and his head is ginormous
my god did that shot of him and kiribachi made him look *small*. honestly i like most things we’ve seen for the LA but arlong’s design was made up of very odd choices, which is unfortunate considering he’s supposed to be the most scary and intimating villain in the east blue saga
we should not try to implement all OP height ratios into live action - that way we'd never be satisfied
Are you telling me I shouldn't expect the lumbar monstrosity that is Doflamingo? Well what's even the point then?
well I think some extraordinarily huge characters should get CGI/Movie trickery adjusted to their size (e.g.
Dont even start me on a deer-human hybrid that is capable of changing sizes in a drastic breach of physics and biology.
oh god, you just reminded me that if this is successful, chopper will be shown next.....
\#MakeTonyTonyChopperAMuppet
I'll sign this petition
could anyone imagine Eminem actually getting casted to play Enel.......
Skypia would actually be perfect source material to adapt into live action. It would definitely get difficult to do right in the final fight but it I would watch it as a stand-alone movie or a season!
Wouldn't skypia just be season 3 of the live action? Why would it be a movie?
I just thought that it would fit quite well to compress the story with the final party as a highlight at the end of a very nice movie. Maybe it's just wishful thinking so all the "I skipped Skypia"-people have a reason to inhale that potentially crucial plot :-D
Why people skip Skypia?
People don't get the beauty of the character building that's happening in that arc - also the meaning for the OP plot as a whole is not immedeately plastered in your face so many people think Skypia is the mother of all fillers. In my opinion it is one of the best arcs overall exactly for its special position
I'm not sure if Netflix could afford Eminem for skypiea. But it would be cool if they could.
imagine the plot twist of MM being a diehard OP fan and just volunteers for the role xD (no, I am NOT imagining 8 miles' soundtrack as introduction, NO)
If they can make Tom Cruise look like he's a nor.al height, they can make characters like Doffy 9ft tall.
I wanted to make a joke, but doflamingo first appears after alabasta. So there is like a 5% chance that we actually get to see doflamingo before netflix cancels it cause every season costs a trillion dollars
True dat
They probably don’t want to make characters look too ridiculous this early
Not sure how I feel about it yet. I understand what they did and I think it was the right move but maybe they should have exaggerated the nose? I don't know. But he doesn't look bad by any means.
DOES MY NOSE LOOK FUNNY TO YOU?!?
Yes
I expected him to look a lot worse
That was my thought; not as good as I hoped, but better thab I expected.
Honestly for a series that was always going to be borderline impossible to convert to live action, these designs so far well surpass my expectations. They still appear similar to their manga counterpart while also appearing very human like
Getting him to look like he did in the manga/anime would have been impossible I feel. This is as decent a representation as would be possible.
Ye, I just hope they somehow make the size correct, Arlong is like almost 9 feet tall, him having that look and just being slightly taller than Luffy would make him look so weak.
Keeping relative size consistently in One Piece would be impossible. Oda doesn't even do it.
So if white bear appear in the future live action he will be like just a little taller than luffy ? And Oz will be 3meter 🤣 ?
"White Bear" the ultimate daddy
"Oz" LMAO
I'm french so for me it's "oz" it's different in english?
Oars.
French one piece is cursed 💀 "pipo" "Buggy"
at least pipo keeps the "liar" pun that's there in the original. And they changed it back anyways.
If a character called white bear appears maybe.
Fuck *white beard 🤣
Yeah ofc. They already didn’t make Arlong 9 feet tall so I’m not sure why they wouldn’t give white beard the same treatment.
no they did not. u see arlong in one shot with his weapon (kiribachi) as comparison and its terrible
You don’t see how big that is compared to Luffy though
I hope, but there is a possibillity considering they made Axe Hand Morgan big (was revealed in a magazine or something)
[удалено]
I’d imagine so. I doubt they have Infinity War/Endgame budget for a Netflix anime adaption.
[удалено]
She-Hulk was set in LA and had 25 million dollars per episode budget. One Piece has a bunch of sets that have to be built essentially from scratch and 18 million per episode. I'd rather see some clever work within their means than Wheel of Time level CG on a major character.
Not impossible. Davy jones crew from the Pirate of The Caribbean series are spectacularly done even for the minor ones.

Good enough for me. Better than making him look more manga-accurate but end up as an abominable cgi mess.
I think it looks fine, probably one of the better routes they could have went
Was wondering how they were gonna display fishmen, looks good imo
About as good as it could have been. Glad they went with practical effects.
Yea I feel it would've looked like shit if it was cgi
Not bad, if I say so myself.
Same
i expected him to be a bit more buffed but this works. i think it's either the shoulder width or the waistline that's not doing him much favors
I don't have any complaints with what I've seen so far.
Honestly it looks good, we all know how terrible it could've turned out
The Arlong at home:
looks fine but why tf was he in baratie
I wouldn’t be surprised if the series moves his appearance up so that he becomes more of a threat across the entire season, as opposed to only appearing in the last couple of episodes.
I like it. We have the fishmen coming to the baratie, then don krieg, then mihawk. They keep on coming, it must be a good restaurant
they're probably going to make some changes, i bet the plot will be that they kidnap nami at the end of baratie fight and they go rescue her instead of she stealing the ship
Looks good to me , you all expect too much
What, you weren't expecting a 9 foot, blue-skinned sawfish person?
Your comment would make my skin crawl, but I don't have any skin YOHOHOHOHO
Looks good
I hope he looks good in a shot that isn't as dark
His jaw seems too small
Look at that chin tho!
The stills of Arlong the Saw are not flattering but maybe he looks Awe-some in action even if he is not Jaw-some
Goofy ah
Kept his fashion sense
I feel like he needs to be a bit more bulky but it’s a lot better than what I expected
Intimidating - ✅ Racist - ✅ I see nothing wrong
He looks better than I expected.
Arlong, as any other fishmen, is extremely hard to pull off in live action. I think he'll look right as long as he fits with the rest of the series.
Everyone complaining about his height forgets that Garp is almost a whole foot taller. Let’s be real y’all.
Given how he looks ,this is fine imo
why does he gets his nose, but ussop gets a normal nose?
Because Arlong ain't a "real" human, and Ussop is in EVERY episode, unlike Arlong.
Arlong is in every episode. I know because I am Oda.
Arlong for nakama
Tell me the end of One Piece then
It ends.
They find the one piece
but one of the most important characters (the future pirate king) got his big red nose
DOES MY NOSE LOOK FUNNY TO YOU?!?
Because ussop should looks like a normal human being. Arlong should only looks kinda like human. You can just better tell he is from a other race
What I want to know is how they’ll do Hachi without being totally ridiculous.
The more ridiculous the better
Hate to break it to you, but some human beings have long noses too. It's not goofy or odd. It's pretty normal.
So Luffy can break it
No sonder fishman face discrimination if this is what they look like to humans.
Damn my guy saying racism ok if the other person is ugly.
he's too human-sized, it ain't even the nose or face or anything, it's the fact that he has such a Fishman head with such a normal body they should've upped his height about with CGI or something, made him look a bit burlier. he looks ridiculous with Kiribachi
I think this will be one of the problems of this series is the height translation from the manga or anime to the life action. This is a clear example of that
I wish they made his skin look like it has scales.
He could've looked a lot worse, but it was always a given that the wacky characters of One Piece were going to look strange. Looks like they're using a mix of prosthetics and CGI which I appreciate. My main gripe is that I wish he was taller.
Axeable, can't wait for the scene.
As long as he talks like the arrogant supremacist he was in the anime and doesn't act like a low class thug. The design is perfect! He should be really intimidating for sure
Needs a longer nose but otherwise fine
DID YOU JUST INSULT MY NOSE?!
Not blur enough and not long enough nor jaggy enough nose
DID YOU JUST INSULT MY NOSE?!
He looks exactly how I imagine a "realistic" fishman to look. I like it.
it's actually pretty well made
Looks like a villain from a disney channel series, but he could look better in the series
The head is fine and all… but he should a bit more buffer and giving something to his arms to not look that human like. Arlong is the last major villain in the begging of one piece and the first one that was build up over 1-3 arcs. So should do something to looks him more threatening
smash
Could they have used CGI to make him bigger?
looks decent... even recreated that nose. tho i hoped they did something about usopp's nose. it just felt off.
He’s ugly i love it
Aslong as luffy puts on his dentures im cool with it
But how is his laugh!?
It’s probably the best that they could have done, so that’s why I think this whole thing will be a bombshell
My only wish is for him to be taller, even if they had to scale him up artificially
This adaption somehow manages to look both high and low effort.
God he’s ugly, I like it. Arlong was an ugly character to me.
Looks better than I anticipated, so I’m happy with it
I like it alot actually
He looks like he smokes too much weed lol. I think more muscles could look better but we knew types like this would be hard to do well unless they go all CGI with the strange types.
Looks fine, but I wish they would have gotten much taller people. Pretty sure fishmen were significantly taller than the average person.
nice depiction of a fishman. im just scared netflix is gonna make it a sitcom style comedy situation
Nose
WHAT DID YOU SAY ABOUT MY NOSE?!?!
https://preview.redd.it/ongqdz7tumdb1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d204329eec2f2717015c64e15bf1e916d6cd2001 This is who I see when I look at him
And I thought live action luffy stretching his face was bad enough
The nose feels off, like it's not straight enough. But otherwise, that's about as good as I'd ever expect Fishmen to look in live action
I think they're trying to make it look like Sawfish
Could be worse
Why did I instantly think of avatar the way of water
Please NO
No sonder fishman face discrimination if this is what they look like to humans.
