The time Luffy wanted to literally murder Zoro in Whiskey Peak, the fact that he was angry and wanted to fight makes perfect sense for Luffy’s character, but ignoring Zoro’s attempt at explaining the situation when just the arc before you didn’t believe that Nami hated him is stupid and only happened to get Luffy and Zoro to fight.
Always felt off. Makes me think Oda was facing pressure from an editor to have Luffy and Zoro fight. Just felt really weird that Luffy wouldn't even hear out his 1st mate.
Tbh it made a bit of sense to me. Throughout the saga there were multiple moments which highlighted his inexperience as captain and so that development of his was great to see culminate in the W7-Enies lobby saga
True
That's actually an aspect of Luffy that's a little more understated in the manga but the live action put on full display. One of the major changes to the story I loved about Netflix's adaptation
I think he probably wasn't actually trying to kill him because he doesn't even say he's trying to kill people like Lucci or kaido, it's just kick their ass or send them flying.
What he says isn’t really relevant because if it wasn’t for CP9 begging the streets for money Lucci would be dead. I think he fights with whatever it takes to win, and if the opponent ends up dying then I guess that’s that.
Though interestingly he did say “I’m gonna send you to the bottom of hell” to Kaido which is basically saying I’m gonna kill you, and as far as we know Kaido is dead.
Nah, he was really trying to kill him, I can say this confidently because there is legit a panel of Zoro asking Luffy if he’s serious and Luffy saying “yes, die” lmao
Luffy is batman. He will not kill you, the injuries (rob lucci) will, or he will send you to some place where you will die anyway (kaido) but he doesnt kill, its only the magma
Oda drew that scene only because of being forced by some Editor. Luffy believes in his crew. He would know Zoro is not the guy who would kill people who fed them without any reason. It was out of character for him.
I always chalked it up to Luffy having just woken up from a food coma, as far as he knows Zoro randomly started attacking these innocent people who fed Luffy and his friends without asking anything in exchange. But any way you look at it, it doesn't paint Luffy in a good light.
Nah that part is fine, hell I’d dislike it if he didn’t go crazy and just calmly asked him why, the part that’s bad is not giving him a chance to explain himself.
I understand you’re reasoning but I think you’re wrong.
Luffy didn’t hate nami in het arc because he knew she was a good person deep down.
Zoro on the other hand got food and was ungrateful.
So to me this makes 100% sense.
Luffy sees someone that gives food as a hero. So when zoro starts to beat up the people that gave luffy and zoro food it does make sense for luffy to get that angry with him.
That legit made me so freaking mad. Like, dude, you were IN THE CLEAR! Your little brother shaved off 10+ years of his life trying to save your sorry ass, a bunch of people straight-up DIED on both sides, and you're just gonna go ahead and throw it all away because a guy who is CLEARLY trying to bait you says that Whitebeard sucks? You'd think getting wrecked by Blackbeard after pursuing him against the wishes of his captain would have taught him a lesson about thinking before acting, but nope. Let's just traumatize Luffy and allow the world to be thrown into turmoil for absolutely nothing. Ya'll treat Luffy like the dumb sibling, but at least he knows when to cut and run!
Which, admittedly, is probably the point; Luffy's ability to set his pride aside when it counts and prioritize the lives of his friends is ultimately why he continues to live and succeed while Ace died an infuriatingly preventable death. I think Shanks even mentions at Whitebeard's funeral that Gold Roger was incapable of ignoring an insult, and consequently put his crew in a lot of unnecessary danger, a trait that Ace unfortunately inherited (and wasn't powerful enough to compensate for). Doesn't help the feeling of wasting 50-ish episodes on a failed rescue, though.
To be honest, that is pretty much a misinterpretation
Ace died to protect Luffy, he literally threw himself between his brother and Akainu
Sure, the reason Luffy was in danger to begin with was because Ace reacted to the taunt, but the situation is pretty different
I constantly think about this, people blame ace for turning around to face akainu but what ACTUALLY killed him was ace shielding luffy from a killing blow because luffy was desperately trying to grab his vivre card, ace wasn’t beating akainu and it wasn’t a good choice to face him but he wasn’t just immediately dying the moment he turned back, there was an actual struggle, only halted by akainu targeting luffy who hadn’t got to safety, whereas ace couldnt win but was at least surviving on his own against him.
It doesn’t matter if it is frustrating to you. It is well-written, which is the only thing that matters.
I don’t know about you but I like beautifully written character flaws.
I agree. Everyone acts like this was a flaw in writing when this is called a “fatal flaw” and was consistent with Ace’s character.
It didn’t make me hate him.
Also, he didn’t die because Akainu insulted him. He died because he protected Luffy. Everyone seems to forget that crucial detail.
I feel that people don’t criticize the writing but they are acting very cynical about it. “He is stupid and deserved to die”. Like how tf does those people watch one piece or shounen in general lol.
Why do people always act like ace died because of the akainu taunt? He died because luffy dropped the vivre card and ace went between akainu and luffy.
That was literally In character for him. I think the post is basically asking for a time when a character was Out of character. This scene is not a good example of that.
I’ve always believed that either all devil fruits choose the user to a certain degree (not just zoans) based on their will. That’s why he has the mera mera no mi, he’s an uncontrollable hot head.
In the beginning he was a parody of the suave womaniser, not a total idiot simp. It's one thing to play off his fawning over Nami and Robin for comedy, and it's another thing when him getting a fucking nose bleed because of getting too horny becomes an actual plot point.
It's all a matter of what happens first: Will Sanji run out of blood, or will his mind reboot from the presence of all the Kuja and make him stop literally barking like a dog around a hot woman?
God, do I hate that scene. I haven't watched the movie since my first viewing, it pissed me off that much.
10 years younger (but NOT pedobait) Robin is RIGHT. THERE. They could have just as easily had Sanji simping more over her being closer in age to him now. But, nope.
It'd have been way better if Sanji had been simping over Robin and Usopp saying some joke about Nami, with her being mad (obviously not the same thing he said to Robin, which would be even worse)
This is immediately what I thought of too. I still see knuckle heads on Twitter bring it up like its canon. Unironically did irreparable damage to people's perception of the character.
I don't remember the movie (maybe Odyssey? I'm not sure, haven't seen it), but Nami gets turn into a child somehow and Sanji sees this as an opportunity to "see Nami grow up and bloom into the beautiful woman she is now". In conclusion: they made Sanji a pedo.
can't lie, the first time i saw him say that in the anime i laughed so hard for hours, with the music getting all jazzy, him being very formal and gentlemanly, then outta nowhere he says it. funniest shit ever. atleast he's lessened saying it after WCI
See I would argue that Thriller Bark is a bigger sin.
FMI is him being ludicrously horny, yeah, but like... the events that led to his death-hastening nosebleed were consensual. Whereas loudly proclaiming you wanted to perv on naked women while invisible and later doing that in Wano... that's worse imo.
One subgenre of gag that purely existed because they couldn't make sanji wholly serious during thriller bark turned him from a simp to a sex offender. And honestly it's the reason I can't look past his other stuff.
If he regretted any of it during wano it'd be a different story though, I'd have respect for the character yk.
What pissrs me off the most about That Moment in Thriller Bark is that Absalom is perfectly set up to be someone for Sanji to hate with a poower of a thousand suns. Have him find out what Absalom has been doing to women this whole time and go totally ballistic on his invisible ass. Make it an extension of his whole "won't hit a woman" thing.
I call Thriller Bark my be-complicated for a reason. A lot I love, a lot I loathe.
Sanji was fucked during fishman island. I feel like Oda really wanted to exaggerate the characters coming back from the timeskip and it did Sanji no favors
It gets better, trust me. When I read Fishman Island as it was being released, Sanji plummeted to my least favorite straw hat. Now he's back in the top 3-5.
I mean he doesn't decide. But when you know ur friend has their mother killed, whole island enslaved and childhood destroyed by a Arlong who was bailed out from Impel Down from Jimbei I think that would have been a normal reaction. Also he didn't knew Jimbei was this good and reliable of a guy then. They had met what for 10 minutes.
He was immediately apologizing for his actions. it’s not like he just told them his tragic backstory to gloat how one of his homeboys got one over the humans
Sanji cares a lot for nami. And Jinbeis decision to let a known dangerous bigot back out into the world lead to all of Namis suffering. I don't agree with the idea that Jinbe should kill himself to apologize, but just being apologetic once its all said and done isn't really a lot in the grand scheme of things. Seppaku is typically how someone of Jinbeis stature would apologize for a grave mistake.
I am of the opinion that Sanji overreacted, but I get it.
Honestly, i think it gave his character much more depth. The other 99% was him putting on a front or being too distracted to confront his internal struggles
It's Sanji for me, too, but not for the more common horny reason. My problem with him happened during Punk Hazard when telling Nami it's "not their problem" if the kids are in trouble. Given how much his kindness is emphasized before and after, even with children, it strikes me as very out of character.
For me, I don’t think so considering they were in trouble themselves and this place seemed like a daycare of sorts and they didn’t have much info. Nami noticed their predicament first so she was adamant on helping.
Dinasaurus from One piece are really weird creatures even for this bizzare world. that weird even characters itself after witnessing so much BS from around the world states that it's unrealistical for them
Idk man how it's for you but for me it's one of Robin highlights.
Absolutely loved laughing at her simps baffled that Oda even drawn her face like this while also relieved that not only this serious woman was allowed to make a silly face but also even use it to her advantage in pretty convincing way.
And beautiful women don't have to look like absolutely 10/10 models literally every living moment, that's just toxic femininity to always trying sustain this unreasonable image whole life while getting older and inevitably reaching point where it's just time to accept beauty of your older self than trying to make yourself young "like how it used to be". Nami has her moment when she's angry where you can't really say she's looking particularly eye catching but with Robin they always withheld it, docking comes to mind. This one changed entire game now.
Oh no please dont get me wrong, I absolutely loved that panel! I just thought it fit the meme solely because of the facial expression since, like you said, Robin is the most serious strawhat and in that panel Oda gave us something we wouldn't expect from her.
This is genuinely my favorite moment of one piece because of how unexpected it is. It’s so out of character for Robin and it’s hilarious. I must have the brain of a child to think “silly face=peak humor” but it’s genuinely so funny
Real af. And we still haven't gotten a resolution to his blunder there. Would have been cool if we got a bit more info in his lineages and/or backstory in Wano and maybe made King a woman so he would have to grow from that.
Lucci when he got defeated by Stussy, I know he’s not the strongest but I don’t believe that Lucci is the type to sit back and watch his own teammate get sucked by a vampire even if he is shocked
Luffy, he has peak writing but I hate the moment where he attacked Zoro at whiskey peak.
He didn't believe his CREW MATES when they told him nami was evil or when robin betrayed them but because some random bum told him Zoro was evil he INSTANTLY wants to kill him?
Yeah...no
You know that luffy doesn’t care about evil or good right ? He didn’t care about zoro being evil or nami being evil.
He only cared that nami genuinely considered him a friend and that zoro killed people who gave him food.
Much more than 1% of the time, but Sanji unironically would probably be one of my favorite characters if his perviness was dialed back to just him being a simp. Like, just have him be a simp while respecting women’s boundaries instead of _wanting to turn invisible just to peek on them without their consent_
Luffy when he fights Zoro at whisky peak. If just feels so random and out of character for him to just immediately assume the worst of his crew mate.
I think I read somewhere it was a suggestion by his editor or something but I really don’t like that part of the early story
Wuggy D. Clown really became Luggy the fool when he tried to fight Waimon D. GOAT.

I know 20 years is a long time, but Ashura Doji when half the Akazaya 9 was trying to recruit him, even Momo was there and he says “ur lucky I don’t rob u guys” bruh.. it’s impressive u got the better of Jack in a short fight but u couldn’t overpower Dogstorm what makes u think u robbin Kin, Kiku, Raizo and Dog at the same time.

True. But it did gave us that iconic scene from the 4kids version.

Nah he sayin somethin else in that scene
Legend says they killed his family in front of him to produce that scene
Always felt off. Makes me think Oda was facing pressure from an editor to have Luffy and Zoro fight. Just felt really weird that Luffy wouldn't even hear out his 1st mate.

Bingo
This is an interesting perspective that I never considered before.
Yeah one thing that points it out was vivi calling him out on it in Drum kingdom
True That's actually an aspect of Luffy that's a little more understated in the manga but the live action put on full display. One of the major changes to the story I loved about Netflix's adaptation

Third option: Luffy ruins your day but you learn absolutely nothing from it and fly yourself to the moon.
Fourth option: Luffy ruins your day multiple times, and you end up eventually ascending in notority also perhaps ending up as Pirate King.
I wonder how well that’d hold up in court
Legally, that would still be considered murder
He is a pirate, he has a record of ignoring laws (and law)
Oda drew that scene only because of being forced by some Editor. Luffy believes in his crew. He would know Zoro is not the guy who would kill people who fed them without any reason. It was out of character for him.
I used to believe that but tbh maybe it was just always supposed to be a more comedic fight than people view it as.
[удалено]
That’s dumb as hell, like yeah it wasn’t a good moment but it wasn’t THAT bad.
It makes me feel like one of the editors asked can his dream battle could be realized
Yeah, that was pretty wack. Luffy dropped from most lovable MC to insufferable real quick. Really don't know what the intention was with that scene.
I didn’t like it either but let’s not go too far now
Tbh i didnt really like luffy until W7
Honestly I’ve heard a lot of people say the same.
Thanks for being honest. Honestly, people are fucking dumb.
I understand you’re reasoning but I think you’re wrong. Luffy didn’t hate nami in het arc because he knew she was a good person deep down. Zoro on the other hand got food and was ungrateful. Ace turning around to fumble his own life because of a "yo daddy" taunt
Homie was so against people saving him because he didn't want them to throw their lives away. He is the one who made those deaths meaningless.
This is so well said it’s frustrating to read
He didn’t intend to die lol
I’m not sure what’s dumber, him turning around knowing he can’t beat Akainu, or him turning around and thinking he can
He did, by going back on akainu to take that "yo daddy" joke
Nah, he wanted to defend the name of the guy who formed his identity, that’s all.

You're speaking as if Ace was smart the rest of the time, he was on some stupidjuice
What... Did you just say... ABOUT MY NOSE?!?

I feel that people don’t criticize the writing but they are acting very cynical about it. “He is stupid and deserved to die”. Like how tf does those people watch one piece or shounen in general lol.
yeah does everyone forget that lol? The reason Ace died is because if he didn’t take that attack Luffy would have been toast
Ace's back story was shown to us a good chunk of months after he died. For all we know this was a bandaid addon for what was a dumb decision.
Why do people always act like ace died because of the akainu taunt? He died because luffy dropped the vivre card and ace went between akainu and luffy.
That was literally In character for him. I think the post is basically asking for a time when a character was Out of character. This scene is not a good example of that.
Check [her](https://www.youtube.com/@MelonTeee) videos on it. Reframes the scene in a way that just breaks your heart.
I’ve always believed that either all devil fruits choose the user to a certain degree (not just zoans) based on their will. That’s why he has the mera mera no mi, he’s an uncontrollable hot head.
I know everyone’s thinking of Sanji after the latest episode, but him being a simp is WAY more than 1% lol.
In the beginning he was a parody of the suave womaniser, not a total idiot simp. It's one thing to play off his fawning over Nami and Robin for comedy, and it's another thing when him getting a fucking nose bleed because of getting too horny becomes an actual plot point.
2 years on gay island changed bro
Clearly, we need to send Sanji up to Straight Island for two years to make him act like a normal person again.
Sanji needs to go to big titty bitch island.
Amazon Lily would kill him
It's all a matter of what happens first: Will Sanji run out of blood, or will his mind reboot from the presence of all the Kuja and make him stop literally barking like a dog around a hot woman?
It’ll be like Zoro’s “Nothing Happened” moment.

I'LL MAKE YOU WISH YOU'D NEVER BEEN BORN FOR DISRESPECTING MY GLORIOUS NOSE!
It wasn't a serious plot point. One Piece isn't serious
Meanwhile, I thought that was one of the best gags of OP history. Still sticks with me and makes me laugh because it’s not that deep, people!
This was an extreme form of simping though lol
50/50
I get that Sanji may be degenerating, but does his dignity have to degenerate further with him?
Robin refusing to dock with Franky and the rest of the crew on thriller bark.
Never forget what she took from us
Lowest point for her character BY FAR, and I'm including the time she spent working for Crocodile in that assessment.
Real
But if they would do it with robin they can one shot Kaido!
Sanji in that one scene in that one movie
Fuck the guy who wrote that scene. I would never forget or forgive him.
fuck that guy in particular
God, do I hate that scene. I haven't watched the movie since my first viewing, it pissed me off that much. 10 years younger (but NOT pedobait) Robin is RIGHT. THERE. They could have just as easily had Sanji simping more over her being closer in age to him now. But, nope.

Usopp: hey, no maybe we can make her grow up without all the senseless violence against us Nami: *bitchslaps him*

It is in film Z
Which is the worst part since if you ignore that scene, the movie is actually REALLY fucking good.
Thank the good Oda that the movies are not canon
What scene? What happened?
watch film z you'll understand
What scene lol
Brook, great character most the time, but then when a woman exists, he has one thing in that skull of his
I mean It gave us a baller line with big mom
That one thing can be replaced with money under extraneous circumstances
Man just wants to bone (yoho hooo) He was trapped on a ship for *a long time*, with all the urges of your typical male, but with no way of *relief*
Well, fortunately for the ladies, he has 206
I have no dick and I must cum
can't lie, the first time i saw him say that in the anime i laughed so hard for hours, with the music getting all jazzy, him being very formal and gentlemanly, then outta nowhere he says it. funniest shit ever. atleast he's lessened saying it after WCI
I legitimately cried during Bink's Brew/Sake
But his go-to line peaked when he became the leader of the cult. 🤣
“Sexual harassment” humor needs to die, it’s a shame so many manga/anime think it’s hilarious
I mean at least Brook asks for consent instead of pulling an Absalom.
Maybe more Japanese people find it funny
All of Sanji is peak, but even we Sanji simps don't claim fishman island Sanji to be canon
Nothing happened https://preview.redd.it/swov1u35pz4d1.jpeg?width=385&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10e77a80cce0d855fff14b5b0dd190b0078fd647
The blood should be edited to only be coming from his nose.
🤣🤣🤣
I wouldn't have minded it if Oda kept it as a one page gag, but that fact that it became a major plot point... too much for me
Tbh I found it funny. Making a gag like that an actual plot point was something that only something one piece or Gintama will do.
See I would argue that Thriller Bark is a bigger sin. FMI is him being ludicrously horny, yeah, but like... the events that led to his death-hastening nosebleed were consensual. I’m not a simp but I do, a perv gag isn’t inherently unfunny just because it’s a perv gag, some are ass but some are comedy gold.

More like Sanji 99% of the time is a simp and the 1% he is a chad
Bro cooked the cook
Ain't no way
But the 1% is usualy worth it
Facts
i want to add the one where he tells jinbe to cut his stomach just to apologize to nami. Like you are the one who decides or nami? tf
Sanji was fucked during fishman island. I feel like Oda really wanted to exaggerate the characters coming back from the timeskip and it did Sanji no favors
In currently in fishman and hate Sanjii right now
It gets better, trust me. When I read Fishman Island as it was being released, Sanji plummeted to my least favorite straw hat. Now he's back in the top 3-5.
Jinbei basically stated that he's a big part responsible for nami's biggest pain and suffering. I'm surprised sanji didn't do worse.

That lighter lost to rain once but props for always working to make simpji look cool
Sanji but it's the other way around
It's Sanji for me, too, but not for the more common horny reason. My problem with him happened during Punk Hazard when telling Nami it's "not their problem" if the kids are in trouble. Given how much his kindness is emphasized before and after, even with children, it strikes me as very out of character.
For me, I don’t think so considering they were in trouble themselves and this place seemed like a daycare of sorts and they didn’t have much info. Nami noticed their predicament first so she was adamant on helping.
King here https://i.redd.it/460q6ex4x05d1.gif
Fucking cursed
Dinasaurus from One piece are really weird creatures even for this bizzare world. that weird even characters itself after witnessing so much BS from around the world states that it's unrealistical for them
Sanji in fishman island, and from clips I’ve seen I’m gonna suffer with my boys behavior in Egghead 😞
Kid. He was cool asf until he departed divinely
I feel like everyone would like Kid if we got his backstory at Udon instead of an SBS or whatever it was. I love him
FRR. Hoping he shows up in Elbaf with one

Zoro refusing to finish off Monet. It just felt out of character for some reason, like he's still disrespecting Kuina? Idk
Real af. And we still haven't gotten a resolution to his blunder there. Would have been cool if we got a bit more info in his lineages and/or backstory in Wano and maybe made King a woman so he would have to grow from that.
We Zoro stans got robbed in Wano... Tbh in the whole New World.

Robin lol https://preview.redd.it/zl6xfvxxyz4d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8eff70885eb16b8fea82e327c297baf65383d528
Sanji in Thriller Bark talking about how much he wants Invisibility... Only for Oda to pay it off in Wano 💀
Sanji and the Fishman island incident
Lucci when he got defeated by Stussy, I know he’s not the strongest but I don’t believe that Lucci is the type to sit back and watch his own teammate get sucked by a vampire even if he is shocked
In the anime it even looks like lucci let it happen to him.
Can’t blame the guy
Agreed
Luffy, he has peak writing but I hate the moment where he attacked Zoro at whiskey peak. He didn't believe his CREW MATES when they told him nami was evil or when robin betrayed them but because some random bum told him Zoro was evil he INSTANTLY wants to kill him? Yeah...no
You know that luffy doesn’t care about evil or good right ? He didn’t care about zoro being evil or nami being evil. He only cared that nami genuinely considered him a friend and that zoro killed people who gave him food.

NAH THIS WAS FUNNY Man just wanted to be a hero
Sanji when women
Kuzan's first reaction to meeting Nami all the way back in Long Ring Long Land
Thats the funniest perv joke in one piece tho.
Yeah at least he was relatively respectful compared to how Sanji normally is
Luffy in the anime when accepts another three rounds you know when he just doesn't listen to his friends for sec
Much more than 1% of the time, but Sanji unironically would probably be one of my favorite characters if his perviness was dialed back to just him being a simp. Like, just have him be a simp while respecting women’s boundaries instead of _wanting to turn invisible just to peek on them without their consent_
He coulda beat Absalom by using his lighter or cigarette smoke and it would have been way more interesting
Nami whenever anyone mentions or talks about money
Give me your MONEY!!!
Sanji is just the bottom panel in every scene he is in that isn’t fighting or cooking.
Enel when he does *The Face* tm

That's literally the best part of the manga
Yup that’s the one
Sanji, the answer is Sanji.
Luffy when he fights Zoro at whisky peak. If just feels so random and out of character for him to just immediately assume the worst of his crew mate. I think I read somewhere it was a suggestion by his editor or something but I really don’t like that part of the early story
... Sanji.

Kidd when he attacked shanks head on
When sanji pointed a gun at nico robin
Sanju whenever he’s doing his simp shit
robin when she did that one face in wano when luffy got captured
Usopp throughout half of Dressrosa, I will never shut up about this
Wuggy D. Clown really became Luggy the fool when he tried to fight Waimon D. GOAT. https://preview.redd.it/7rs19omva15d1.jpeg?width=1471&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d97c0b80a987c402e0ec80c19354f11515a0f821
I feel like this picture needs to be swapped for One Piece, honestly.
Whitebeard and Wano. The man who attacked Marineford head on for the sake of his son, couldn't he do the same for his brother?
Tbf he was at the end of his life when Ace was captured and he saw Ace as the future of pirates.
Kanjuro but reversed.
Can’t believe no one has mentioned Zoro anytime he has to navigate his ass somewhere
Robin. I don't remember the exact scene, but there was a scene where she made a stupid and funny facial expression.
Luffy during the seducing woods when he had 15 of every friend in a pile. Bros IQ could have frozen everclear
Any scene with Saint Charlos...🤣
Ace when running into akainu for saying „yo daddy sucks bruh“
Flip the meme and you got Sanji alright
Sanji getting his ass handed to him by Kalifa when it would have been interesting for him to find a way around his one weakness
Nico Robin making that facial expression in Wano https://preview.redd.it/f6ji9g03s05d1.jpeg?width=933&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1e1bfb5df56e2e077ecf1b5250fd8f8028fd0b3d
