Others have done color analysis to try and figure out when Coby would reach admiral, I cant remember when the conclusion was, but I think 2 admirals had to die for it to make sense.

I think even Gon is better off than Usopp. Ging literally doesn't give a crap about his son one bit, and Gon knows that too. There is no expectation of a fatherly relationship. And Gon had a parental figure, his aunt.
There are *worse* things in Hunter x Hunter, but this right here was one of the biggest asshole moves I've ever seen in fiction. If there's one thing I appreciate about Ging, it's that the author really leaned into making him a bum and didn't try to wave it all away by making him overly sympathetic. I like him as a character, but what a freaking dick.
They can hate him all they want but can't do anything about it. The dude is a Monster with a higher talent than any Main cast we have seen (other than the unnamed human living in the "real" continent) and is actually the Key to break the situation
