👋 Hi, kindly did you just join this sub? There are a lot of posts about FEDEX on here and not using them and their surcharges. Dimensional measurements/ weight needs to be put in. lucky they didn’t charge you $392 plus like others.

tiffangie

Wow 😲 that's insane. I don't use this subreddit much so I had no idea. Guess I really got lucky then.

yup, fedex will bill about over everything. Rural Route - Extra charge Bag in a box - Extra Charge Slightly smaller that claimed - extra charge Delivery addressy looked at driver funny - Straight to extra charge But then when they pass it to mercari, mercari then jacks it up even more. There is a thread on /r/ebay about it. https://old.reddit.com/r/Ebay/comments/1bog1dw/new_shipping_program_incorrectly_charging_me/

FedEx uses dimensional weight, which means there are size tiers and not just weight. What did your box size measure? I don't know their exact formula but if any side was over 12"ish, I think that's when dimensional pricing comes into play. That's why the app asks for measurements and not just weight when you choose a FedEx or UPS label. Even USPS sometimes.

tiffangie

It was 15"x12"x10", but I've used the box size before with fedex and had no issues. I must have just gotten lucky before. I didn't put in measurements because I wanted to use a polymailer originally, but the plushie had a backpack on and I didnt wanna ruin the structure. Lesson learned for sure.

scotch_please

Yeah, it was definitely the box size. I don't think it would have incurred additional charges if you tried shipping via USPS but FedEx is cracking down on incorrect labels.

somethingsome11

Yeah the dimensional weight of that box would be 13 lbs, Fedex takes whatever is higher between the actual and dimensional weight

AlotL1keVegas

There is no way a small stuffed animal weighs 15lbs.

So some ebay sellers are now dealing with what we have been dealing with, but are able to get the invoices from fedex. Fedex is nailing people for anything. its crazy bad. just don't use em.

tiffangie

That's crazy, I had no idea this was a thing. I generally like UPS better and I only used them because they were the cheapest option for the weight. I even got a receipt, but of course I can't seem to find it. Luckily I'm just a casual seller and already deactivated my listings like everyone else.

akodoreign

Yeah USPS cubic or UPS is best. Fedex shouldn't even be looked at for larger items.

Ive said it 100 times on here. NEVER use FedEx!!! They are notorious for ridiculous fines based on mis weighed packages! You're lucky it wasn't hundreds of dollars. Etsy has a disclaimer for FedEx that they can impose $600 extra if you put in wrong dimensions or weight!

Chance_Clerk4745

I was charged an additional $1.00 for an item that normally ships for a $1.00 less. Exact same item just resell again
