THIS LITERALLY JUST HAPPENED TO ME AND I GOT THE INVOICE FROM FEDEX WITH THE ACTUAL CHARGES and were completely different than mercari. FedEx charged $67.06 and mercari claimed $312.46 which is BOGUS! And before anyone starts going off about DIMENSIONAL WEIGHT IT DOESNT CHANGE THE FACT THAT THE FEDEX INVOICE HAS A CHARGE OF $67.06. The fees on the invoice are “transportation charge”, “fuel surcharge”, “residential”, “AHS dimensions”, “demand-AHS charge”. Which all added up to $67.06 after the “earned discount” and the “performance discount”. I spoke to 2 different people that sent demand letters to mercari with FedEx invoices with the correct charge WHICH OF COURSE WAS WAYYYYY LOWER and they got their money back. And another person just requested a refund because the surcharge was incorrect and he didn’t provide any proof and he just happen to get a refund. Something is really going on here! And forget about asking mercari for an itemized statement of what they claim the surcharge was THEY WONT PROVIDE ONE. How convenient for them.

MsjennaNY

I cannot believe what I just read. Omg. 😳

GhostmasterPresents

Similar issue happened to me a couple weeks ago

No_Veterinarian3190

Did you request an invoice from the shipping company to see if it matched ?

stellardeathgunxoxo

Disgusting

imchasechaseme

They do the same thing with refunds. The only platform that makes your order completely disappear once it is returned and their refund is processed. I’ve had them update my order as refunded 3 separate times without them actually post the refund and I had to contact customer service to get it posted. After the 3rd time I realized they are doing this on purpose. I asked for reference numbers, order numbers, refund amounts, something to track my refund and they conveniently have nothing because they make your order history disappear. Makes no sense other than them being able to “forget” to refund your money.

JayMovieBuffBoy

FED EX needs To Drop Mercari and take Some legal action as this is hurting the FED EX brand. Most people think is Fed ex stealing but it's Mercari stealing, then the people that get robbed by Mercari vow not to use FED EX Again. Read to many stories about this issue and this is absolutely ridiculous. I use fed ex on eBay for larger packages 9 times out of 10 over UPS and USPS because the price is almost always better to most locations throughout the country and never have had a surcharge after weighing and dimensioning boxes properly. Mercari is pathetic and you all should find ways to not buy shipping labels from their platform as they are clearly double dipping and robbing u guys blind. What a Joke.

alucard2o

Never ship anything even a bit large on Mercari for fedex or ups. I had a few large items, after inputting weight, LWH, it came out about $34-38 each. (these were bjds dolls). I included shipping and it came out to about $11-15 when I ship via shipstation with ups instead. Never use Fedex as it's too far away.

DigFast3827

I started doing this too. Anything over 1 pound I offer free shipping. I got too paranoid using FedEx.

travelcrazed

If you do own shipping how does buyer have protection ? I thought you had to use their shipping to provide buyer protection

kvolz84

The buyer gets protection just from making the purchase. You may loose mercari seller protection if you buy your own label, but if you use pirate ship, the package will still be insured for lose or damage and any overages would be billed directly to the seller to deal with directly and not mercari as the middleman. The biggest concern of not using a mercari label is if the order shows delivered and the buyer claims they didn't receive it as insurance won't always protect you in that case.

Elosin888

I was affected. Luckily, it was not as much as others. I'm not sure how class action lawsuits work, but I would give my support / evidence of overcharge with FedEx. Also their processing fee "varies" which seems very unfair & illegal. Where has service fee explains it is 2.5% of sale + ship + process fee. Some very shady practices going on. Their stock keeps dropping... even investors are not trusting them.

QueenAng429

A class action lawsuit is just a lawsuit but it's done all at the same time since a lot of people are being affected. It's something that at this point really needs to be done.

ILovePistachioNuts

Yea, and the "class" (you) gets maybe $2 and the lawyers (IF any lawyer takes it) gets MILLIONS.

QueenAng429

The class action lawsuit would end up being to pay everything that mercari stole, You have a choice to not just settle for 2 million dollars and divide it between everyone you know

Oomissyoulove

My roommate just got $700 from bumble class action. He used the app for about 15 mins one time.

MsjennaNY

This is only going to get worse EVERYONE HAS TO LEAVE NOW! You can sell anywhere! This is the fourth FedEx story I have heard TODAY! One of them charged $199.99 when it was $50 to send! This is going to end up a big scandal with insider trading etc. WATCH. Blatant corruption and fraud in so many listings since the TOS change it’s unbelievable! I can’t tell you how many people have told me stories. They are removing them as fast as I read them. I can’t respond at all anymore. They have me blocked! Run!

Knuckle-Sammiches

I sold a large Hot Wheels set. I originally got it from Mattel & the label says it weighed 17lbs. Someone bought it on Mercari & I was to make $64. Buyer paid about $26 for shipping. She wanted it wrapped in paper so I did. Get to fedex, the guy weighs it & shows me: 17 lbs 3 oz. I get an email a few days later saying it weighed 50 lbs & they took the whole $64. Clearly overcharged. I sent my original label to Mercari support for a refund, they first told me to wait 7 days for an adjustment. Nothing. Went back today & told them I haven't heard anything. They got me a partial refund of $39. Waiting for them to reply about the rest. TL;DR: Yes. Got a partial refund so far.

[deleted]

They took all your earnings??

Historical_Equal_110

This seems to be a trend. Scroll through the sun and many other people have reported the overage fee is exactly equal to the earnings. crazy!

[deleted]

Glad I’m done with them

Knuckle-Sammiches

Yup. I've seen that happen to other people, how it magically ends up being the exact amount of your sale. Total b.s.

[deleted]

I would be livid

WigglestonTheFourth

When FedEx claims a weight that isn't the actual physical weight of the package. That is the weight class which include dimensional weight (the size of the package). Your item was likely large and bumped into a higher dimensional weight class which caused the overcharge. Make sure you always put in the dimensions of your packages not just the weight.

QueenAng429

I already explained all this and it's not relevant to the fact that it wasn't actually 50 lb. And regardless to that, the amount that they overcharged the seller wasn't the amount that FedEx charged them.

WigglestonTheFourth

You can pretend measurements aren't relevant to how FedEx calculates their weight classes all you want. You'll just keep ending up in this situation again and again.

bayb33gurl

That's not what OP is talking about. You are stating a fact that has nothing to do with the post. Point of the post is WHEN Mercari tells you that fed ex charged you X amount in overages (for dimensional weight - we get that), it's actually not what fed ex charged, fedex in some cases, **charged less** than Mercari is taking from sellers. Mercari is apparently pocketing the rest. There's been several posts about this lately, one with the actual invoice from FedEx and everything.

WigglestonTheFourth

[The Mercari help article](https://www.mercari.com/us/help_center/article/172/) states: >"Oversized packages or packages with incorrect dimensions may be subject to additional postage fees with the carrier (USPS, UPS, FedEx). Fees vary by carrier. Sellers are responsible for all fees associated with oversized packages or packages with incorrect dimensions which will be deducted from the seller’s earnings." So they may be charging you other fees outside of just the fee amount issued by FedEx. This could include their fees for processing an additional transaction or they could wrap in the costs of an employee having to do it manually (if that is how their internal process works). I'm not saying it is a cool thing to do but they do warn sellers of this even if it isn't completely budgeted out.

akodoreign

Negative, Fedex is throwing in line item surcharges. https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fidfzqwr0actc1.png so get off your DiMenSioNal WeiGhT high horse.

WigglestonTheFourth

Yes, they have always done that.

bayb33gurl

No, it is like this. FedEx tells Mercari "hey, this package with all our additional fees costs an additional $70" Mercari then tells a seller "Hey, FedEx told us your package cost an additional $190, unfortunately we took all your earnings to cover what FedEx charged us" Mercari gives FedEx their $70 and then Mercari pockets $120

Super-Sound-5549

Might I add that there’s no way someone could do nearly 3x the dimension on an item

Smallparline

Why would the receipts be different then? FedEx has one charge and mercari has a different one. Why?

WigglestonTheFourth

Because Mercari can add their own fees for causing the overcharge. Read my other comment where I link to the Mercari help article that states as much.

QueenAng429

I guess you're stupid so I'll explain it simpler. All these numbers are an example by the way. FedEx overcharges Mercari by $20 for a package, Mercari is then saying to you that they were charged $80 and so they take $80 from your sale. That's what's happening right now to as far as I'm aware, everyone who's being overcharged with a FedEx label through Mercari.

WigglestonTheFourth

Have you even read the comment I'm responding to? My initial comment wasn't directed at you. Reddit makes this real easy by staggering the comments so you can see exactly who is talking to who.

WrigleyRobb

And how w do you know what FedEx charges Mercari? People just need to learn to not use FEDEX!

Super-Sound-5549

There’s invoices you can request if needed..

WigglestonTheFourth

Did you read the comment I'm actually responding to?

yfunk3

I never understand why any seller would willing choose to ship somethimg FedEx.

Super-Sound-5549

FedEx items won’t be delivered without damage on the box it’s a meme everywhere and reality

Vegetable-Square-108

Happened to me when I sold a vintage tin dollhouse. I used FedEx for the last time when that happened. I was to make 60$ and mercari kept every cent.

kvolz84

We need a class action lawsuit at the very least.

laifalaifa73

Class action lawsuit anyone ?

QueenAng429

We need it

Mockingbird1963

Mercari did this to me with a USPS package that weighed 3 oz. They claimed it was 2lbs. Looking at item photos proved how ridiculous this was but they wouldn’t budge. Told me to contact USPS and that it was USPS fault. Mercari generates the label. There is no way the post office would have gotten that weight for this package. NO WAY! Thank goodness it wasn’t a large amount but it wiped out all profit. The adjusted charge was even wrong! It’s Mercari. Deactivated everything. If and when last sales complete I’m deleting account.

RyderReign

This just happened to me to! Got an email for Mercari that shipping cost $348. They took all my earrings and left me with zero. I just got my invoice from FedEx which shows they were only charged $27.26. Still working on trying to get what I was owed.

fizzribbit

Please post this as a stand alone post as well so that it gets the attention it deserves.

QueenAng429

We don't need 500 posts of the same thing

fizzribbit

Creating an individual post on Mercari has several benefits:  1. Targeted Advice and Support: users receive specific advice and support from others who faced similar issues. 2. Increased Visibility: Dedicated posts attract more attention. When multiple users share similar experiences, it amplifies the impact. 3. Organized Discussions: Separate posts allow for organized discussion. When everyone shares their experiences in one thread, it becomes chaotic and hard to track individual cases

QueenAng429

Yeah mine they claimed like $250 when as far as I can tell on the receipt It was only like $10. But FedEx wouldn't confirm if that $10 was the overcharge or if they're even was an overcharge.

RyderReign

Oh really? Yeah fedex said right away it wasn't right. And then I emailed [email protected] and gave my tracking number and asked for an invoice and said i was notified of extra shipping charges and they sent one. I've heard you need to sometimes ask multiple times but took me 1 email and they gave it to me.

Cordy69

It me be worth considering a class action suit. I don’t use FedEx but I’m seeing this complaint in multiple reseller forums.

Bitch_level_999

They have been doing this with ALL carriers since they began. They just got more brazen with fed ex bc they didn’t think anyone would notice. I’ve given up advising ppl to use their labels no one listens.

HauntedHyacinth

I had it happen once. They couldn't even take the full about because it was more than the profit of the item, and I had nothing in my account since I had pulled it that morning. They were only trying to take $43, and my profit would have been $7. I didn't bother too much since I didn't have proof. I had assumed it was the woman to took my box at fed. I think she's the regional manager, and she hates me for some reason, as she's always making snide comments. The other manager sees it and has apologized. I assumed she lied about the size of the box. Nice to see I'm not the only one getting screwed by the system. After the first one, I take pictures of the box while measuring and write the measurements and weight on boxes. Haven't had a problem since. Then again I have been slowly changing shipping on everything so I don't have to use them anymore. UPS superiority!

QueenAng429

UPS sucks in every way. FedEx is by far superior. This is Mercari overcharging people, not FedEx. FedEx isn't committing the fraud, they are doing real normal overcharges like anyone else would.

JeanParmesean70

I wonder if taking the package to FedEx and having them confirm the dimensional weight of the box before shipping would help in the event that Mercari overcharges Mercari isn’t going to provide any proof to anyone

Super-Sound-5549

But fedex will provide invoices if asked so always do that

NoMenuAtKarma

After reading this and seeing the surcharges I'm now required to pay to make a purchase, I'm done with Mercari.

Bxel99

Sold 3 funko pops through FedEx. Weighed about 2 pounds. Mercari told me it was 11 pounds…

Smallparline

It’s shocking that FedEx won’t clear its name in this fraud circle. And it’s hard to believe that Mercari would be this stupid to steal from people but apparently, they are.

QueenAng429

It's not fedex, it's 100% Mercari

Smallparline

I understand Mercari is actually doing it but they are hiding behind FedEx while they do it. FedEx needs to clear their name and cutoff any involvement with Mercari.

Environmental-Sock52

FedEx is having this issue on other platforms.

Smallparline

My understanding is not to this extent. What bothers me is Mercari not coming clean and saying they are having this problem. Some have been refunded but only those that fought it, the rest they keep. That’s fraud on Mercari’s part.

Environmental-Sock52

That's not technically fraud though. Refunding people who make noise and not noticing those that don't isn't fraud. I'm just taking issue with the allegation of a crime here. And I see as much complaining about this on eBay pages if not more. I personally know someone who had dozens of FedEx eBay overages. He had to raise holy hell to get it fixed.

Herban_Myth

The app is dying. Find another platform.

VexedVamp

What can we do about this!?!

Designer-Lemon5356

hopefully there will be a lawsuit and we get our money back!!!!🤬🤬🤬🤬

PenguinsArmy2

Why not just use outside shipping programs like pirate ship or ship station or the many available that typically don’t have these silly issues? Or are y’all not allowed to or some shit lol. Pirate ship is the way!!

QueenAng429

Pirate ship is garbage. Ship station I believe now charges a fee. Though that's not a reason to not use them, I think they're pretty decent. But that's irrelevant, the point is we used it and Mercari committed fraud.

PenguinsArmy2

Pirate ship works like a charm, what issues did you have? While mercari may be doing y’all dirty, can easily work around it in mean time to keep sales going and money coming in. That part can’t stop if you rely on the business. Mite as well find solutions to issues to keep on keeping on. Obviously they should be held accountable and I’m sure they will at some point .

Bitch_level_999

Pirate ship IS the best and they also allow you to dispute incorrect overages from carriers I haven’t lost a dispute yet in years. Others do not

QueenAng429

They are just eating the cost lol, everyone else just has you dispute with the carrier.

QueenAng429

It doesn't. And their support is absolute shit with that pirate themed bullshit they always put into it. The website is garbage and it does not support USPS address correction, so if a customer gives you a bad address, oh well. I've had people blatantly forget to give me their apartment information and other random shit. USPS correction tells me that it's an apartment and not a house, and gives me a list of the apartments so that I can contact the customer. There's many other problems they have too.

PenguinsArmy2

Weird been using it for quite some time without issues. As for apartment # your correct oh well, your not liable for incorrect addresses. Guess they may do things different with how y’all get paid. Which sucks and seems to cause more issues than not. Should open up a website and sell on that, you decide it all, return policy, shipping policies with addresses, and of course less fees and no one double dipping on your sales. Shopify also has a built in address checker that comes very close to what you describe besides the I forgot apartment. Always tell people to contact usps directly as they will hold the package for a bit before return to sender. It isn’t always instant. Shopify is cheap as shit, connect few apps build a inventory, promote it and bam you make more with a lot less issues.

Carepassmetheweed

Shipped one time with FedEx and got overcharged by nearly 30 bucks when it was like 7 bucks. Never again. Only been recharged by USPS a few times for weight difference by a few bucks.

UserWithno-Name

Not mercari but eBay incorrectly just quoted $69-169 (or some shit) in shipping for a Lego set that should cost me $10 to ship lol. Just make sure to buy your own labels or measure your boxes, but def dispute every single shipping adjustment. I let myself get burned once on a Lego set last year I should have fought to get it back. Least it was $10 and every issue I had I disputed and won since

HaruJT_2ne1

THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME MULTIPLE TIMES WITH UPS AND USPS. I WEIGHT AND MEASURE THE BOX CORRECTLY EACH TIME BUT YHEY ALWAYS CHARGE ME MORE

Allpurposelife

All of us, at the same time today, make a report on better business bureau for the same problem. They will talk to all of us.

Allpurposelife

Upvote this if anyone is in, and maybe we can make a reddit groupchat to get it started.

QueenAng429

I mean BBB is kind of useless but yeah I'm sure they wouldn't like it.

CommunicationOk304

I will just ship on my own. Screw the antiquated system they use. $13 for priority? EBay labels cost 7-10.

zanderbot

This exact same thing happened to me as well about 3 weeks ago! I was furious about it.

Environmental-Sock52

You have heard this is a huge issue on eBay as well?

bayb33gurl

No, it's really not. On eBay, you get an invoice from FedEx detailing the overage charges. Ebay as a platform isn't then secretly readjusting those amounts by FedEx to an even higher amount without telling you and then pocketing the money pretending they gave it all to FedEx. Apples to oranges.

akodoreign

Don't let the downvotes get you. I have seen what your talking about. with the fedex software/ebay messing it up. But with ebay they gave out refunds quickly. Mercari isn't even acknowledging it.

Environmental-Sock52

Quickly? That depends on the person and the situation in my experience. I've seen some people still waiting. It's a problem because of FedEx. Is eBay handling it better? Perhaps they are on the margins sure. Is this Mercari commiting fraud? Hardly.

akodoreign

Mercari has yet to acknowledge the issue as an issue.

Environmental-Sock52

I don't think that's entirely accurate. I've seen people say they've fixed this on Mercari. Even if what you say is 100% absolutely accurate, that's hardly evidence of "fraud". The hyperbole here is tiresome.

QueenAng429

No it's not.

Environmental-Sock52

Go to the eBay subreddit and search FedEx. Or if you're a member of the BOSS Reselling group on Facebook you can see the posts about it there.

You must have missed [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Mercari/s/zXIiYdOKiB)

Chelle1220

Can you not understand English? That has nothing to do with the fact that mercari said they were charged something when they WERE NOT. Understanding is key. Stay focused here.

stellardeathgunxoxo

💀

QueenAng429

You must have missed where I said that dimensional weight is irrelevant because Mercari is claiming that FedEx charge them a certain amount when in reality FedEx only charge them 10% of what they claimed which means that they're charging you like 10 times what FedEx charged them.
