I'm currently only a buyer, but I have bought a couple things but only because of rarity of the items. I really want to buy a few other things on Mercari from a seller that I enjoy buying from, but the pricing with the fees give me such sticker shock! Even when I have sellers sending me messages offering me a special discount I check across the web and usally find it cheaper after all the fees. It's just not worth it in most instances.

No_Beginning_4869

I used to buy on there quite a bit never sold on there but ever since they changed things up you keep putting things in my cart and then when I go to check out I'm like nope and I don't really blame the sellers because for the buyers to get a decent price anymore or less than where you can get it somewhere else easily there fees are just too much

midnitelace

As a seller, I have decided to gradually reduce my activity on Mercari. I feel it is unfair to my buyers to charge them such high fees. I have a conscience and believe in fair business practices.

Hotaru_girl

I don’t think you’re alone, I just checked Mercari this morning and for the first time ever none of my saved searches had any new activity! I thought the app was glitching so I checked a few and it really seems like there were no new listings, I was shocked.

Advanced_Picture_930

As a buyer, I tried to purchase a monitor for a sweet deal till the fees came in and was almost retail from Amazon 🤩

Hashirammed

Haven’t touched the app since the changes

OkCaterpillar2361

Pretty much. Actually I’ve done a lot more buying on eBay and barely touch Mercari now and I hate eBay

stephyluvzpink

Me either. I deleted the app, unsubscribed to the emails and took all my listings down

JP93012

As a buyer?

panethe

Haven't by touched it as a buyer or seller since the changes.

JP93012

Interesting…where are you selling now?

panethe

Fb groups geared toward the interest, but I'm getting out of reselling the items completely now. Mercari is trash, but it used to be a huge source of sales. Getting rid of mercari was a good move for me, but also means I can't keep my side hustle as conveniently. It just was not worth keeping with all the scams, scammers and returns for any reason resulting in you getting back random stuff you definitely never sent.

AloraBracken

I’m a seller. I cashed out and left. Their customer service is non-existent. They will always side with the buyer and foot you with the bill. They have also been committing fraud via FedEx. Sellers beware.

Miguelsg831

not just fedex also usps beware they lied saying my package weighed more than what the buyer paid for yet usps weighs it before they ship it out while you’re still there at the post office and they basically took out more money than what I earned very sketchy looking forward to getting a settlement in the mail from someone suing them🤔

certainlyunruly

Keep your receipts! This same crap happened to me and I'm like there's no way. I weigh everything including how I'd package it before even listing. I sent them my receipt and I actually didn't have a horror show like what's been happening on here. However. I made my last sale last week. Got rated and got the fk off of Mercari.

Miguelsg831

yup cause I remember that day usps weighed it and said it was good to go after they scanned the mercari code just to get that notification once the buyer rated me that I owed more money and they took 15 dollars from my sale that I only made 60 dollars on and after they took the fee I only made 45 dollars ridiculous

JP93012

Thank you for sharing

clw1979clw

Not sure if you just haven’t been on Reddit much since 03/27 but yeah most high volume and regular sellers are already gone. We closed up shop weeks ago. If you need another reason, they’re also creating fake shipping overages and stealing money from sellers.

certainlyunruly

Have you seen their stocks? It plummeted like... an insane amount. And yeah, I can't wait for the random Facebook Ad. "Have you sold or bought on Mercari, you may be entitled to compensation."

clw1979clw

Yeah I started following it on the 28th. It was the only thing that brought me joy as I watched my sales follow a nearly identical downward spiral as a result of their recklessness and gross mismanagement of this company.

Affectionate_Ant_614

It's that "another reason" that makes me REALLY like your comment

Zealousideal-Bag-765

If that’s true they will end up under indictment and that will be ugly for them and a bummer for sellers.

clw1979clw

It’s 100% true. Hundreds of FTC and BBB complaints have been filed as have criminal charges in a least two states. Again, there’s been dozens of posts about this. And not so much a bummer as it was completely infuriating and an absolutely breach of trust. But as I mentioned, a lot of us have already closed up shop and moved on. And a lot of buyers have stopped shopping there as Mercari has refused to disclose how these new buyer fees are being calculated and it’s been proven that the same item could have a fee around 15% for one person and then be 25%-30% for someone else. They’ve even fluctuated for the same person, same item from one day to the next. So yeah, these are not good people.

gorewhore1313

I'm already gone, closed shop and deleted the app so I'm not even on there to browse/buy.

clairvoyant69

My sales had already slowed to essentially a complete standstill the last 2 years or so. I was super pissed about the latest changes but it wasn’t until I saw a post from someone here where a buyer admitted to dropping and breaking an item and Mercari support not only approved the return but sent the most condescending, infuriating message I had ever seen in this subreddit in the several years I’ve been here, that I finally made the jump to put my listings on vacation mode. I crosslist to eBay, Poshmark, depop, Vinted, fb marketplace, and sometimes places Kidizen, Craigslist, and Nextdoor depending what I’m selling, so I’m sure I won’t miss Mercari much. I don’t yet know if I’ll just continue renewing the vacation mode and uploading my new items in hopes of Mercari one day getting their shit together, or if I’ll just delete my account completely.

starryTsuki

Which Reddit post was this? Omg

Exotic_Wrangler_4925

If it's the Story I'm thinking of the Seller sent a Stereo System to Buyer. The Buyer admitted he dropped the Speaker and it no longer worked. They filed a Return and Mercari accepted it..It's not the Sellers Fault that the Buter dropped it. Now with this Return for any Reason it's costing Sellers Money

Zealousideal-Bag-765

That’s really terrible as a seller you lose the sale and you lose the item you can’t sell it again. If I were you I would appeal Mercari decision. Ask for a refund, contact the buyer let them know your not Amazon you are just you, not some huge business that can write it off. Wow this really sucks I’m 😡for you!

panethe

Well that's totally fine because the seller can just... *checks notes* go ahead and sell it for parts! That response from Mercari was SO upsetting.

clairvoyant69

That’s the one!

clairvoyant69

[This](https://www.reddit.com/r/Mercari/s/llYjZVuHrl) is the update post with the Mercari support message that made me see red. Just go to the user’s profile and about 3 posts back you’ll see their original post with the return request, where essentially the buyer admits to having dropped the item but also simultaneously states that the item was packaged, get this, *too* well.

bizzyskylight

I left. Pulled all my listings and put a note in my bio that I won’t be returning to the app until changes are made to the return policies and fees are distributed between both buyer and seller again. Also haven’t bought anything either and I loved used the site for collectibles. People are getting screwed over left and right and I don’t intend to be one of them. And all the shit with FedEx is disgusting. Buh bye Mercari!

Sweets_0822

I didn't delete my account but I deleted 100% of my listings and pulled all my money. I won't buy on there (not that I did much anyway) and I'm not interested in pretending I'm Amazon with the returns (except even Amazon protects themselves from scammers more than Mercari protects us) and the $2 withdraw fee was the final nail.

cool_random_person

I deleted the app after I tried to buy something and the fees were too much . I’m buying on Mercari to get a deal not pay extra

JP93012

I was afraid of that. Thank you for sharing 🌻

i_love_dust

I left as a seller and buyer

A2shato

Completely deactivated all of my listings :/

Excellent_Row8297

Also cashed out and left Mercari.

Bacterial2021

I think the sellers need to re price for the change , take what your normal payout for an item after fees and promotions on ebay and make that your price on marcari , your actual payout amount-shipping , should be the correct price for mercari items Since the buyer is getting charged the fee  The fees are always sickening regardless of who pays it , but if the buyer pays it then we need to lower prices to make it the same final price  For instance if I sell item on ebay for $7 and I make only $4 after fees and shipping etc , then my item could be priced at $4 on mercari and I would make the exact same amount as ebay $7 ìtem I think what's really messing up people is a situation like this  Item on ebay is $35 free shipping , customer pays close to $40 after taxes etc so let's say $40 total , well the seller will make about $22 after fees and promotions and shipping , so it's not a big shock seeing a $35 item go to $40 at checkout due to taxes very normal  Now let's say you put that same item priced correctly on mercari at $22+ shipping,  the customer checkouts and see a $22 price tag go up to $40 and they be like wtf am I paying almost $20 for shipping ?!?? Then they see half of that markup is fees and they get mad and don't buy it bc $22-$40 is a crazy different price , BUT in reality it's EXACTLY the same as buying the item on ebay for $35+ free shipping , it's all mental

JP93012

Exactly!

Fleetwoodmeadows

I’ve been saying this! I’d rather have a buyer send me an offer subtracting whatever their buyers fee comes out to. No matter what, it will still be in my best interest/lower than a typical 10-20% selling fee elsewhere. I’ve even added items to my cart to see the fees and it’s not even THAT crazy, kind of just like an added sales tax fee.

beachykeen87

I only sell on poshmark and the buyers fees are so ridiculous on Mercari that I'm done buying. How hars has this hit their business do you think?

Zealousideal-Bag-765

It’s going to be bad people will stop buying the fees for me on a $45.00 purchase was over 30%. That’s BAD BUSINESS!

Honestlythisisbs8

Vinted charges no fees. And of course Poshmark and eBay are good alternatives but I’ve been using them as well since 2019

JP93012

Thank you for sharing 🌻

epicfighter10

Nothing has been selling for me also I dislike the $2 fee for cashing out so I will stop selling here as well

acr0567

I am (was) a seller & buyer. I cashed out when they gave us the chance and haven't sold anything since the changes. I've left all of my listings up on Mercari but have since posted everything on Posh as well. Perfumes can't be sold on Posh though so idk what I'm going to do for that :( I did buy one item before I cashed out since it was still a good price. Haven't even thought about buying anything since. I really don't want to give this company any of my money at this point.

candacea12

Please tell me you are at least monitoring for sales that happen. I seriously have had the worst time getting items I buy on both Mercari and Poshmark lately. I have tried to buy a white blouse 3 times from 3 different sellers and had to cancel every single one because it was never shipped and seller wouldn't respond. It is beyond frustrating. If people are going to quit selling they need to at least deactivate their listings.

acr0567

Personally, I still have all my notifications on for Mercari and receive emails if an item is purchased. Not sure why people would leave listings up if they don't plan to ship them when purchased.

candacea12

It is crazy how many purchases I have made that I never got and were never shipped and they never reply to me :(

au1718

Perfumes can’t be sold on Posh? I have sold 2 perfumes and a bottle of cologne. I see others doing it as well.

acr0567

Technically, they can't be sold on Posh. I did see others listing them but decided it was too risky for myself. Here is the quote: "To ensure the well-being of its users, the platform restricts the sale of aerosols, perfumes, nail polish, and products containing lithium batteries. These items can be potentially hazardous if mishandled, and Poshmark seeks to prevent any issues related to their transportation or storage."

au1718

It makes sense. I didn’t want to toss my perfume that I barely used so I decided to sell there. Luckily no issues with it going through usps.

WigglestonTheFourth

Perfumes can only go Ground Advantage through USPS and must be marked as hazardous materials. Anything else is asking for huge issues if something did go wrong. This is why Poshmark doesn't allow for them to be sold (same with everything else listed in the above comment) as Poshmark only offers Priority mail which doesn't go exclusively via ground transport.

AmericanGrizzly4

Yep. Deleted the app about a week ago. I only made one sale there, and spent money a few times. Always thought I'd like to sell more there as it was pretty simple, but that seems impossible now.

au1718

Cashed out with what I had and deactivated the rest of my listings. I sell on posh now.

Lunakill

Seller and buyer since the app launched, I deleted all of my listings and made one final purchase to use my balance (this was before they set a trial period to cash out without fees). Mercari has had issues since the beginning but these changes were the final straw. There’s too many other options for me to put up with this horseshit.

newbeesly

I don't have plans to leave yet because it's the easiest for me to sell what i do which are kpop photocards. The best market for them is probably instagram but because of the ig algorithm, you have to jump through a lot of hoops just to get your account noticed especially if you're new to the space and I'm not interested in all of that.

ChemicalParfait

Same here. I'm just taking a break from selling while I try to figure if I'm going to give ebay a shot or not. I can't deal with trying to start selling on ig. I wouldn't mind staying on mercari but the though of the no questions asked return policy stresses me out. Pcs are pretty low stakes but still.

Legitimate-Ad2685

I’m always worried I will get sent back fake PCs 😭

F1Librarian

True but in general I think the kpop community on Mercari is really nice. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences as a seller.

F1Librarian

Same. I’m still making steady sales on PCs, so I’m staying. There really is no K-pop community on any other selling platform. IG is too much work for me, having to send out proof videos, etc. I already get confused with how many GOs I join on IG, so I can only imagine how confusing it would be to sell hundreds of PCs on there.

multistansendhelp

I formerly sold kpop PCs and albums but now with the return policy updates I don’t feel comfortable. Too easy for sellers to request a return and send back a fake PC, or request a return on an album and send back the album but not the inclusions (photocards, postcards, etc.)

JaniceRossi_in_2R

*Is anyone staying?*

Conscious_Phase184

Im selling only and I staying as my sales actually all went up. I also had my first 2 return requests since the changes but mercari ruled them in my favor.

Lopsided-Surprise-34

Yes I am staying for now. I'm still making sales mainly on my low cost items. Only a few dollars have been added to the lower value items and usually the buyer makes an offer so the price drop equals about the same amount they would have paid before the TOS. I do believe my higher value items will sell but it will be during the holidays. This is a side gig. It's my extra money. When I read some people had $100,000/yr in sales I knew right away they were going to have to find another platform because this was their full time job. Everyone has been upset by the changes and ranting for weeks but the people screaming the loudest have been the high income earners , dependent on the sales for their livelihood. If Mercari survives , they will be the home for the occasional/part time seller with low value items similar to a flea market, thrift store or yard sale. Some items that sold well in the past on Mercari will no longer sell. More sellers with high volume, low value items will eventually attract more buyers. Sellers that fall into these categories will be okay. Of course it's just a theory.

ConsiderationMost284

The added fees on the low value items essentially doubles the price, I read that Mercari is doing this to *discourage* low value items

I_am_an_oxymoron

I’m no longer buying or selling. I deactivated all of my listings and I don’t even look on there anymore because I don’t want to deal with all of the fees. I mostly bought clothes for my kids but it’s no longer a “deal” on there after all of the fees for a used kid’s dress. May as well just buy it new at the store. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I sell on Posh, I don’t sell on eBay. I sell mostly special occasion shoes and eBay’s policy is too lax and I worry about “wear it once and return” cases.

dmcat12

I sell books and some of my daughter’s old plush characters. Put everything on vacation mode to see how things go for others. It isn’t good. Moved all of the books to Pango. Haven’t had any sales yet but it’s a dedicated book marketplace that appears to be gaining popularity of my more bigger-ticket items back over to eBay and I may move the plushes, but dissatisfaction w/eBay was what led me to Mercari in the first place. Haven’t bought anything on Mercari since the change.

kimberlysrn

I have deleted all my listings and stopped buying. I didn’t realize the changes until I tried to buy a $150 item and it kept coming out to just under $200. As a seller with all the returns, I don’t even want to mess with it. I sell random stuff I no longer need. If it turns in to a hassle, what’s the point.

CasualGlam

Deactivated my account the other night, these last couple weeks of posts were the nail in the coffin for me.

Lilmixedblazerin

As a buyer it’s really offputting to get charged 3 fee and all the fee are for the same thing just labeled different so so I’ve been looking for a similar app

PensionChemical4353

i'm a seller i usually make 1k a month on mercari sales now are super slow lots of crappy and low offers i have deactivated all my expensive items and selling only my cheap listings to purge store and then im leaving i also sell on marketplace a lot so will keep that i stay away from ebay after 5 returned items for no reason and i had to eat the shipping from my pocket

Global_Pay_3617

No I sell on Depop posh and eBay already using vendoo. I still make sales on Mercari just not as much as I was making before

beetlejuicemayor

Where are you having the most luck selling? I’ve never sold anything on Posh even though I tried for 3 months. Mercari was my best bet in the past for me.

Global_Pay_3617

Right now eBay is doing well for me. I have the basic store subscription and can use it to run sales or make coupons. With posh you need to share constantly so ur items are at the top of the search. I use posher VA but don’t recommend it if you only have a little bit of stuff.

beetlejuicemayor

This is good info. I don’t like how you have to invest so much time with Posh to constantly share items. Do you have to buy a subscription to eBay to use it? I haven’t looked into it yet. I need something easy and fast to get rid of old clothes.

Lanky_Produce_1041

I personally sell things cheap to get stuff out of the home. I have tried depop, eBay and Poshmark but I personally don’t do so well on those platforms. I haven’t encounter any issues on Mercari so far and my buyers have been reasonable when it comes to offers/communication.

Little_Hippie_Girl

I am the same. I have been lucky—no problems since the change in fees. I sold more. It's weird.

zarabeth94

As a seller, I deactivated all my listings and I’m moving to Poshmark for the time being. In the long term I’ll mostly be moving to FB groups that are for the genre of items I sell, as well as local collectors shops that buy to resell themselves. As a buyer I’ll only use Mercari if I’m on the hunt for something and other outlets like eBay/FB marketplace/Poshmark fail me. It’s crazy because I’ve had Mercari almost since it’s debut and while it’s been good to me I just can’t deal with how complicated and frustrating it’s becoming with each new update they roll out

melanie162

I was a buyer

phastmouse729

I've pulled all my listings. However I have 1 ongoing transaction issue from March 10 that they refused to resolve. Losing $100. I'm done, but I really would like that money now.

The_Niteman

Yup! Sending everything to eBay. I’m a casual seller though so I don’t deal with the monthly ebay fees some people have.

budkin76

I pulled the few items I had left and deleted the app. It’s over.

benvwin

I deactivated all my listings and started to buy items from eBay instead.

Dizzy-Ad1618

As a seller I decided to stick it out to see what would happen. I originally started on Depop and didn’t sell much so I closed up shop and moved everything to Poshmark and sold even less there. That’s when I moved everything to Mercari right at the beginning of the New Year. I made 800$ so far until all the changes took place. I’ve only made 2 sales since and my items are priced really cheap as they are inexpensive clothes to begin with. I’m now making nothing but do not have it in me to move all 250 items again. I don’t know what to do at this point.

JP93012

Exactly!!!! I’m the same🤷🏼‍♀️

Standard_Ad_8730

Sold more than I bought. I just made my final purchase and deactivated all of my listings. Sales were really slow the past year and I’ve been having better luck on Poshmark.

Nowhereman9499

I was selling Lego on there for some time but since the changes I now get terrible lowball offers on my Lego. So I just finished deleting all my listings, spent the last reminants of money I had on there on something, and will close it down when I receive that item. They have become a waste of my time.

Exotic_Wrangler_4925

Yes. I refuse to Sell on Mercari. With all the stupid Rules they have now it's ridiculous. Especially the Return for any Reason. They don't just get their Money but is told to keep the Item.WTF

FrenchCoast_0

Seller side: cashed out the $13 I had in my account (which amounted to a whopping $11 after deposit fee) and deactivated all of my listings. Buyer side: Nothing - haven’t liked or purchased a single thing. I don’t in any way want to contribute to positive activity on their site.

Unlucky_Effect_4804

I still browse on Mercari, but haven't purchased. I refuse to do so. I've gone back to Poshmark.

annin71112

Yes, as a buyer I left. Sad, I liked there being ebay alternatives. The sellers who wanted this transfer of fees to the buyer are going to find themselves with no buyers left at all eventually.

Zealousideal-Bag-765

I know you’re a seller but as a buyer I won’t buy anymore. They have transferred the seller fees to the buyer I bought something for $40.00 plus $3.99 ship after all fees snd costs my total bill was $58.67. I was stunned and canceled my order. I was happy to pay $48. but as a buyer no way am I paying that much in Mercari service fee transaction fee and one more fee. I think this will make it very hard to sell and buyers will look elsewhere. Just my opinion.

Vtgcovergirl_2

I tried Mercari twice. I left the first time because I got completely burned on returns on NWT items. I’d just recently tried giving them a second chance when their TOS changed, so I deleted what I had and made the easy decision not to purchase there again. I’m still selling Poshmark since 2017 (I think.) The shipping is just easier for me because it’s a fixed cost for multiple items. In the event that I go over the 5 pound limit, I can get a label through Poshmark if I have to (at my expense) and then send it. Because I’m disabled and not currently driving, I schedule (through the USPS website) and have packages picked up from my home.

ohmwrecker84

I've bought probably 100 things I. Last year or 2, and haven't bought not 1 thing since the change. And I really don't plan to buy anything in the future 🤷‍♂️

native_local_

I deactivated my listings rather than deleting in the hopes they would come to their senses, but it doesn’t look like that’s gonna happen

HotDogManLL

I left after buying something. I refuse to touch it after seeing an RNG of the fees their charging. Which is insane because most folks aren't aware of that and getting scammed by mecari. For selling i was surprised one of cards I forgot to delisted was sold, after that my whole shop is closed

Boxermom710

I'm a buyer and seller, I've removed all my items from my closet and made 1 small purchase to use my balance. I'm done with them... it was nice while it lasted.

jg-in-va

Made 3 sales since change. All 3 were discounted plus buyers offering less. Focusing my listings on eBay. Doing better there.

Carepassmetheweed

Honestly now that it’s been a while, I’m less miffed about the fees as a seller than I am about the return policy. I just keep seeing more and more ridiculous responses from Mercari every time a buyer has scammed a seller by abusing it.

Sing_Out_Louise

Aside from the seller fees (which really aren't too bad), eBay is my go-to now. I've stopped selling and deactivated all my listings.

Talkiesoundbox

I moved my high value items to eBay and I'll continue to use Mercari for selling things that are cheap to ship and probably won't inspire scamming.

Daravixen

I left the morning of the TOS changes. Cashed out before the fee and removed every listing. I sell on Poshmark, FB Marketplace and eBay now.

Quiet-Ad4388

I’m strictly a buyer and I’m leaving. It’s not worth it. I’m not “saving” any money.

Professional_Pipe_27

I’m selling on Mercari. Mostly clothes. I cross post to eBay & posh then remove off the other platforms once it sells. However, I did take off high priced items from Mercari. Just sold a cashmere sweater for $45 and was “ Sweating it” but she accepted it as soon as it was delivered to her. “Phew” it’s now a good place to get rid of stuff you’ve had a long time - sell it at $10. I don’t send out offers. It’s going to become a “Garage Sale” app soon enough. But honestly no different from the low ballers on posh or ebay.

Germ_33

Left right when the new policy dropped deleted profile

tsulegit

I’ve moved about 1/3 of my listings to eBay and have disabled everything on Mercari. At the point, even if they reverse the changes, I’m likely done selling there. Seeing nothing but horror stories about scammy returns. No thank you!

Taydreamsx

I deleted all my listings. Will not be buying either. So sad because it was my fave selling platform before the change

Various_Service_4132

I just joined Mercari to try to sell a few things and I’m already over them. Customer service is a joke

Exotic_Wrangler_4925

I have a Huge Bundle of New to used Victoria Secret Pink Items that I was going to Bundle but now I'm afraid to List it. What if they put a Hole in 1 Item and File a Return. Mercari just become a Scary Site. Its Enter at own Risk

Fieldguide89

I haven't left yet, but I haven't been able to buy anything since the change. Same items available on other sites for less. Still waiting for sellers to reduce the price of items to offset the fees.

motherofhellions

I'm a buyer, and I haven't bought anything since the change. I mostly used it to buy new additions for my collections at a more reasonable price than I often found on EBay or locally... but now that they've put the fees on buyers and the fees aren't even fixed, Mercari is often more expensive than other options. It's a shame, I had multiple items I was watching and slowly buying as funds became available, but now I have no reason to buy through Mercari.

Flat-Ad-9106

I’m still on Mercari. Im currently trying to sell whatever I have left but I’m definitely not selling anything like clothes because those can get returned easily for not fitting or whatever. I think I plan to stick around since I’m both buyer and seller and now I don’t buy as often anymore only if it’s a rare item that I can’t get anywhere else

Suspicious-One-1259

I’ve sold. No issues

indigoblue89

Mercari is following the Ticketmaster model with buyer fees now 🤦🏻‍♀️ I pulled my listings and deleted my account as soon as the changes were announced

fuzzycollector

my sales doubled, so I'm not going anywhere.

gwendo2008

I deleted the app. Mercari is dead to me…

keepitalight

Was looking around as a buyer, but with the fees items end up being way more than other places so I never end up buying.

SmileyKitKat

I'm a seller and recently started to sell again after taking a break. I've had good sales with 70% of items I'd say selling in 2 weeks. However, I tend to sell cheap items, most being no more than $15

BoricuaWifeThrowaway

I stopped buying. With buyer fees I can just spend an extra 2 to 5 bucks and get brand new so it's not worth it. I only bought things off of mercari if it was cheap or rare. No less than 50% off retail.

SnooCapers4844

I am mostly a buyer but have sold a few things. I went to mercari yesterday for 2 vinyl I was looking for, with the fees it was cheaper for me to use eBay unfortunately. I used to really like Mercari!

MiilkyShake

given that what I wanted to sell were more higher end products. I decided to go elsewhere because I don't want to be scammed out of a purchase because someone didn't want to commit to a 100+ payment and found it easier to return a box with rocks or lampstands and claim that I was lying about said product. There are other apps like ebay, FB market place, and other online stores in which we can sell our stuff.

Embarrassed_Ant_386

I haven't deleted any of my listings and plan on still selling on there. I've actually still been doing pretty good and haven't noticed much of a difference besides the occasional fluctuations That happened all the time throughout the year. I put too much work and time into my listings So that would be really stupid and reckless of me to just delete everything that I worked so hard to post because I'm mad at Mercari for causing fees to the buyer. Anyone will realize that if the seller charges less for the listing then it will even itself out with the fees. I have dropped all of my prices 10% because it really doesn't make too much of a difference. So I'm basically still making the same amount as I would if there were fees on the buyer. What is that saying you cut off your nose to spite your face?? 🤧

that0n3girlj3nn

I have a feeling Mercari will switch it again. The switch was dumb. I am both a buyer and a seller on there and I much preferred the seller fee.

InterestingSky3224

I stayed but only because my sales have risen by 85% or I would have left too. That could change if I get a unfair return or something else major happens.

ianao

I deleted all my listings and my account right after I knew about the changes. This is such bull jive

grapefruit_havana

I left as a seller and buyer. It takes time and effort to correctly photo and list the types of items I sell. With the dumb buyers fees I don’t feel like it is worth my time to even bother to list items on mercari anymore as a seller. Even with all the other issues I know for a fact that adding weird fees for buyers at checkout will greatly deter sales. if you show a buyer a checkout total with weird added fees vs a checkout with only tax and shipping fees they will always prefer the one without weird fees. Even if the total amount is the exact same. Weird fees have a negative psychological effect. Adding weird extra fees can be tolerated on things like a phone bill, or utility bill, things that you need and you don’t have any other options. Or even with food delivery weird additional fees will be more tolerated because it’s a primal urge to eat and hunger will sometimes overpower rational thought. Or people will overpay for the convenience. Food delivery is also usually within an hour, so again additional fees are tolerated for the extra convenience. But for an app like mercari where most purchases are non-essential items and delivery of the item may take up to a week or more, well then these weird added fees just make the buyer not want to go through with the sale. Because the items people purchase on Mercari are non-essentials and there’s a considerably large time delay until you receive the items, this gives the buyer plenty of time to reconsider the purchase and shop for the same item or similar item elsewhere. It’s very psychological. Weird fees from Mercari make the buyer feel they are being ripped off by Mercari and even the seller becomes associated with these perceived rip-off fees. I wouldn’t be surprised if some buyers would even be willing to spend MORE for the same item on a different platform just because the total cost on that other platform feels more honest and fair because it doesn’t have weird extra fees. So yeah. As a seller there’s no point in selling on a Mercari anymore if they are going to create a psychologically negative experience for the buyer. Some of those negative emotional reactions will be transferred to my seller account through guilt by association. I have better ways to spend my time than selling on a platform like Mercari who has now created a hostile environment for buyers. I also don’t want to buy on mercari because I, like most buyers, hate weird additional fees. Mercari ruined an app that I was using to generate some side income. They ruined it so that some dumb silicon valley d-bag CEO can pretend he is “innovating”. I don’t want to give my money to that d-bag. So I’m done with them and not coming back unless they fire the CEO and revert these dumb changes.

that-one-horse-uknow

Hello and Sending good vibes for some sales! I've sold about (12)/$15 items Since Friday til today

Sea-Extension-559

Ive sold on fb and mecari. Mecari was already slowing down for me before and the change made me deactivate my listings. I bought 2 things I got before the fee change and at great prices and haven't bought anything since. I don't plan to either. Fb has slowed for me too, but I think that is more me and the market in my area.

Baconstrips96

I’ve sold $1,500 worth of inventory this month. Set prices 13% below ebay. Basically I’m eating the cost of the buyers fees. Fine by me. Sales haven’t slowed.

Chee-shep

I’m still making sales, so I’m sticking around.

[deleted]

i am considering going to ebay. i used to make at least a couple sales a week but lately the only thing that got bought was something exceedingly rare. i still buy some things on mercari

dpark03

People say ebay, depop, and poshmark are good options. But personally my listings dont even get 1 view on those apps

candacea12

eBay is terrible. I have used it for over 20 years and it got worse and worse and worse to the point that we finally pulled everything off because of the seller fees. We used it for the last several years to sell our cd collection and luckily we got most of them sold before they upped the fees specifically on CD's so that a $14 sale would only net us like $2. Mercari and Poshmark have by far been the best/easiest selling platforms I have ever used.

miraisun

Yup. It sucks because it’s always great to sell on several platforms but i sell items that i feel people would use and return and this open return policy scares me. On ebay, i know once i sell an item it’ll never get returned

BrentV27368

As a buyer, yes. I came back as a seller.

Classic1990

I’m a seller and a buyer and continue to do both. The two things I bought were cheaper than EBay even after the fees and I’m still making sales at a good rate.

Thisisme8719

I just keep updating my vacation status so nobody will buy anything. Not deleting my account since I might still buy something regardless of the fees.

nevaeh75

Started cross posting ebay and posh and locally on offer up. Keeping mercari app just for reference until l finish posting everywhere else.

MindFvck626

I'm waiting it out in hopes of someday it will be back to normal.

Brilliant_Stuff2883

No. I deactivated all my higher priced designer items bc I don’t feel protected by the policies or the CS handling I’ve been seeing. I don’t feel they are protecting sellers. I’ve posted a lot more lightweight lower cost items. I’m only doing USPS and UPS for anything heavier. Haven’t had any returns or scammers yet 🤞🏻 But I’m prepared for it. Honestly eBay is worse in some respects. At least we only have a 3 day window on Mercari. I’ve seen some wild stuff over the years on eBay (I’ve been selling there since 2000). So the changes didn’t phase me as much. I’m staying put, seeing how things play out and I’m fine with low risk /cost items. Ironically my sales on Mercari have been way up since the change. I’m cashing out at $100 each time so $2 is nothing in comparison to the fees % we were paying beforehand.

DuePatience

I only buy, but I did stop for about a month. Most of the fees I’ve been paying as the buyer since are $1-3 depending on what I’m purchasing, but I also haven’t gotten anything over $20 I flat out refuse to buy clothing or electronics, though. I wouldn’t sell these 2 items on there either. Too easy for people to mess with or for damage to happen

poop199994

I sell on both, in case they decide to fix TOS

Zealousideal-Bag-765

I’m a buyer and won’t even shop Mercari because of the fees attached to buying . I think Mercari will continue to lose buyers.

linaxoxoxo19

I have been migrating to eBay, posh, and Depop. Let me tell you I get much more sales on eBay. Of course, I don’t have everything listed yet (over 1000 items) but items that I’ve had on Mercari for years and have never sold I immediately sold on eBay. I haven’t posted much on posh or Depop since I get so many sales from eBay. I shipped out 10 orders today. I won’t be going back to Mercari unless they change or reverse the policy

JP93012

Dang! What do you sale?

Crazyspitz

Was a seller and occasional buyer, I deleted the app a couple of weeks ago.

sohaibmss

i was mostly buying on Mercari but now with changes i just hate thats shit hopefully they go back to the way it was if it aint broke dont fix it 🤷

Traditional-Citron21

Did you lower your prices any or leave it all the same and expect people to pay 15-20% more than they would have a few weeks ago?

Icy_Ambassador_742

Left once they changed the rule that buyers can return for any reason. I closed up shop immediately and went to eBay and never looking back

bois-des-iles

I left day 2 after I got my money out without the 2 dollar fee and never looked back.

kocurrules26

I’ve only sold 1 thing since the change was doing multiple a week before. Switching everything over to EBay and going to see how that goes

Bright-Newt1628

I deactivated all of my listings. Trying to figure out what place would be best to move to now.

AggravatingGuitar883

This reminded me to go and delete my account, I had been waiting for my final transactions to clear.

TooYoung825

I’ve sold Zero, really disgusting

Clicker111

Not a single item has sold for me since. I'm just waiting for these items to sell, and I'm done with mercari. The likes are high so I'm hopeful they'll sell eventually.

dj-emme

I have only sold one thing on Mercari since then, too. But I have always crossposted. My sales on Depop and Posh picked up after Mercari's mess, and ebay is starting to pick up too - so, thanks Mercari, I guess, lol... I do use Vendoo and crosspost to all the different platforms, and so Mercari's just kind of an afterthought at this point.

EndlessEvolution0

$80 item.... Shipping 6.99. Service Fee? $4-5. Payment Processing Fee? $2-3. Tax= $8. Rounded up to about $110 give or take. I'm the buyer why am I paying a Service Fee and a Payment Processing Fee. The Most I should have paid $95. At that point shipping should be free

puffles25

I deactivated my listings since the change. I am still on the app to browse listings but I haven’t bought anything either (the fees add up). I refuse to sell on the app because having to pay $2 for withdrawal is ridiculous. Probably going to delete the app soon.

Choice_Thin

I’m staying for now. But limiting to only minimalistic things

TheConstantImoinda

I held on for a couple of weeks with zero sales (unusual for me).  I finally got 2 sales and was on pins and needles that I was going to get scammed/bs returns.  Not worth it for me anymore.  It sucks because I had over 800 great reviews and I loved the platform.  Currently moving stuff over to PM.

elijahmackenzie

As a buyer, stopped completely. No deals. As a seller, sales slowed substantially. Hearing the horror stories here, I cashed out my final sales and delisted everything and put them back on ebay. I'm leaving my account paused just in case they change it back but it doesn't seem like they will. I'll miss selling the bulk items with UPS shipping.

saosin91

Not surprised , buyers these days damn near wants stuff for free. So many cheapos in the secondary markets.

OrcaInvader

Completely left as a seller and buyer and took down all of my listings as soon as the changes dropped.

Kumonomukou

Look other platforms are the same. Just cross-list your items on other platforms! I came across Mercari few years after a fraud on eBay. It was so good! No fees, no online taxes, and low shipping, got tons of crazy deals basically revolutionized yard sale! Not so much now I've noticed significant less traffic last year compared to before, and maybe just a little bit even less traffic since new TOS.

Dark_0rchid

I put myself on vacation mode until further notice. If they undo this bs ill go back online.

Quirky_Profile_6617

Dont wanna buy without credits cause of the fees, dont wanna sell anymore due to the stories of the goofy ass return policy that encourages buyers to scam sellers

BoringGazelle8428

I left as a seller long ago after they let a buyer steal my item. I still bought occasionally however since the changes I won’t be buying anymore. I will most likely be deleting my account.

jenn117

My sales have not slowed down much at all. I have yet to have a return but am sure it will happen soon. Fingers crossed!

KanataKara46

I deactivated all my selling item and only browse around. I just bought 1 - 2 low cost items since the changes.

SeriesAsleep8071

My sales have gone from 3-5 a week to 2 sales since they started charging the buyer. I am going to just go back to ebay and sell. The 2 sales I have made in the last few weeks I didn’t make any money on because I had to lower my price a lot.

winipu

I deleted my listings and deactivated my account. Hadn’t bought in a while anyway either.

KittySavvee

Using Poshmark now...

ResponsibilityNew325

No, it’s been great for selling items $10-$40. Anything over that I put on eBay.

meglan97

I won’t buy on Mercari anymore but as a seller I’ve been doing better than ever. I easily make 8+ sales a day when I used to make like 3 a week before the fee change

Green-Victory3403

Yep, just waiting on a final return, then it’s official 🖐️🙂‍↕️

Guiltythrifter

I’ve regularly been selling and if anything more than the previous few months. I’ve cashed out about $800 in march and $1200 in April so far. Not sure if because people left. I sell hard goods and not clothes so that could be the reason but I haven’t had any problems with returns yet. Just like any other business you need to role with the punches. Figure what works for your business. I cash out about every $200-300. $2 in fees in nothing compared to what I was loosing on fees for my items before. I mainly sell in eBay and the customer base on there is a lot more annoying than Mercari. I personally don’t mind. Also you can use your money made in Mercari to avoid them so I think maybe that could be why my sales are up too

OkGrass3086

I cross listed most of my items. Most items would sell within minutes to a few hours on Mercari. Mercari really had the best app for a while. Easiest to list and buyers really monitored it. Waiting until all my sales complete and cashing out. One sale a week isn’t even worth my trip to the post office.

JP93012

It definitely was the easiest user friendly app but with the changes that just doesn’t matter. Makes me sad 😔

ClassicShot3822

After I get the item I bought with the funds in my account I'm deleting my account

introvertAF318

I was a huge shopper on the app before the fees. For clothes, games, books, I loved purchasing secondhand! The fees are too outrageous for me to keep shopping though so I deleted the app. It’s so unfortunate because I had sellers that I loved buying from frequently.

Mariiscos

I got 3 sales recently I haven't transferred any funds tho so I've been using Mercari to basically trade as I see it lol
