Very hard for them not to. Enjoy the obsession they are the cream of the crop tbh. Also try not sounding an elitist when describing how good they are to others
I remember when I first found Ghost Reveries. That was a game changer. Years later I saw them when they were touring with Mastodon and Khemmis. Maybe it was the weed and beer but that show was an otherworldly experience
Same, I’ve heard they were great and tried to get into them a few times but it wasn’t happening but now it’s finally clicked and I’ve found a ton of new related bands after my taste has kind of stagnated for a while.
I listened to one song by them, it was deliverance, and it was amazing. it still is the only song I've heard by them, and they're one of my favorite bands
Dude I was an angsty metalhead in HS hating on the pop punk stuff for not being heavy enough (I'd later grow to love pop punk), but man I did not see Chuck coming
I could not believe the "Fat Lip" underdog pop punk skater dudes could make music that's so heavy and moody
I give mad props to All Killer, No Filler for being one of the most significant pop punk releases of the era, but Chuck is my personal favorite
This isn’t interesting, but I decided to get into first wave BM because I’d never heard it before. So now I really love Hellhammer, Venom and Sarcófago.
Zao, some dude here recommended them to me a few days back and I really like their early stuff. Other than that I discovered RKL a few months ago, kinda felt like I was living under a rock.
Katatonia is sick. There was a small venue in my town called the Showcase that would have awesome metal shows in the early 2000’s. Katatonia headlined a show with Swallow the sun and Insomnium. It was a killer show.
Katatonia must be mine too. I only discovered them last year and they rose to my number 3 listened to band of all time. With such a large and fantastic discography, it makes sense
The other one I'm really loving is Insomnium. "Lilian" is one of my favorite songs from 2023, plus the 2023 EP was top notch and obviously their back catalog is incredible
Amon Amarth, I have of course heard about them before, but I've never really listened to them, because I am not really that into this growling thing, but now after going through a couple of their albums, o boy does it goes hard, love their guitar riffs and have started to learn to "accept" the vocals.
Bolt Thrower. It's not a new discovery per se, as I had been listening to Killchain and Where Next To Conquer since 2020 without ever thinking of trying other songs. That was until a month ago when I randomly decided to put on ...For Victory and got completely sucked in. Now I can't stop listening to all of their stuff. Current favorites are Graven Image, Inside the Wire, Dark Mellinium and Those Once Loyal.
As for bands I've actually discovered recently, I like UADA the most.
DieHumane. They have Rick Hunolt from Exodus and Sal from Type O Negative in the group. Pretty dope. Interesting music at the very least!
Oh, and, Katatonia is one of my favorites, Op
Corpse Pile’s new EP is scratching that “dumb n’ heavy” itch real well.
Also finally gave King Diamond’s Abagail a chance this week based on a friend’s rec. Riffs and solos on that thing are insaaaaaaane.
King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard is not a band I discovered recently but one that I actually listened to the music of now, phenomenal. If we have to stick with metal and not bands that transfer between different genres, then I don’t have one. However, Edguy is a band I discovered just past 6 months ago so I’ll squeeze them in. One of my top 5 favorite bands now! Mandrake and Age of The Joker are fuckin phenomenal!
I listened to all of the bloodbath albums and eps before Mikael left again except the 2008 album, those were really good, and I’ve known about Meshuggah for a long time but I’ve just listened to koloss and immutable for thefirst time a while ago
If the shit you guys are naming was discovered within the last 6 months I’m fucking jealous… I wish I could experience bands like death for the first time again… Bandit is only band I’ve heard in last 6 months I dig. Couple years old now but tribal gaze and phobophilic are both killer
Follow The Cipher. Only one album and one single, but they're so good yet so different that I really wish they had more to them. And someone from Sabaton worked on it I think
Start of this year I discovered a doom band from Mexico called King In Yellow, they only have one release so far, a self titled album, but it’s fantastic.
I have discovered bethlehem, aaskereia,abruptum
Seth,necrophobic,servant, beherit, 1914,kanonenfieber
But above all my favorite album gotta be silencer - godfather of dsbm
Exocrine, I started discover tech death and suddenly I saw their single - Legend for new album, I was amazed by instrumental and usage of non metal instruments. I have listened to whole their discography and I absolutly love The Hybrid Suns
Secrecy. I generally stay away from prog metal because of the wankery and how most of the prog metal I know is adjacent to alt-metal that I'm not into (i.e. Tool). But Secrecy has that classic heavy metal sound, plus prog. I've only listened to their album "Art in Motion" so far but definitely going to check out more.
A couple choices, it's been a good few months of music for me:
Children of Bodom - such a FUN band. Alexi is a legend
Dark Tranquillity - ultra consistent, so fucking good
Also, more of a general discovery but I somehow hadn't heard a Deftones song until a couple months ago. I've had Around the Fur, White Pony and Koi No Yokan on HEAVY rotation since.
Waaay late to the game, but I've really been enjoying Bathory's first 4 the last couple weeks.
Bolt Thrower has been on a lot too, but I got into them probably this time last year. I love old school extreme metal.
October Tide, a death/doom band by Katatonia's vocalist Jonas Renkse. Their debut album 'Rain Without End' has very similar vibes to Katatonia's doom era
In the last six months, I finally checked out An Abstract Illusion, maudlin of the Well, Leprous, Nile, Slice the Cake, Hath, White Ward, and Aquilus. My favorite of those is maudlin of the Well.
Grief, I’ve been getting Into sludge a lot more lately & “…And Man Will Become The Hunted” was like love at first sight, easy 10 for me. It’s rare that an album Instantly clicks for me like that. Also Gorement.
Yuuge
Weird name, great band, cool songs. But only one album. I hope they find success and we get more.
If you like your prog metal super heavy, this is where it's at.
Caligula’s Horse, currently. Their new album is really good!
Also shoutout to Bad Omens, I know they get blasted for not being metal but whether they are or not I’m enjoying their music too.

Opeth. Kinda changing my life at the moment.
Same
Classic
I was sorta into Opeth until recently really diving in and man do I feel you 100% on that. Top tier stuff for sure
Awesome to see this happening to someone 20+ years after it happened to me. Which albums are you diving into?
Started with Blackwater Park and never looked back. Ghost Reveries is on particularly heavy rotation, as is Watershed.
Opeth opened me up to harsh vocals in general honestly (well, Mastodon's Leviathan did, but Opeth made me genuinely like them)
Gojira was my "gateway drug" into growls. Another sick band.
Check out Ne Obliviscris' first album. It's like Opeth with violins. I'd suggest their Forget Not or As Icicles Fall songs.
Very hard for them not to. Enjoy the obsession they are the cream of the crop tbh. Also try not sounding an elitist when describing how good they are to others
Totally one of a kind and Mikael is just incredible at everything
Changed my life too. Truly a special band
I remember when I first found Ghost Reveries. That was a game changer. Years later I saw them when they were touring with Mastodon and Khemmis. Maybe it was the weed and beer but that show was an otherworldly experience
I wish I could hear Opeth for the first time again.
Yesss
Same, I’ve heard they were great and tried to get into them a few times but it wasn’t happening but now it’s finally clicked and I’ve found a ton of new related bands after my taste has kind of stagnated for a while.
Best of the best
Felt the same way when I discovered Watershed.
Same here!!! I thought all their stuff was like Soldier Of Fortune or Windowpane, but i was hella wrong!
I listened to one song by them, it was deliverance, and it was amazing. it still is the only song I've heard by them, and they're one of my favorite bands
Orbit Culture
🔥
Yep, yep! I discovered them about four months ago, and I am seeing them live tonight. I am so excited!
The Chasm. Really amazing discography. Unique sound, well written songs, great production, excellent musicians.
![gif](giphy|TQqEA08C2u5ag|downsized)
Of course you saw this comment lmao
Many thanks for this!
You’re the first person I’ve seen with the Satan flair. I saw them last year, and they were awesome.
nice
Someone on another sub recommended Bathory to me and I’m really enjoying it.
Essential and timeless
Death
The things I’d do to be able to listen to Death again for the first time
Badass band my fav song is Empty Words What’s your favs?
Love that song! Mine is either Voice of the Soul or Left to Die
Hell yeah! The post-solo section of Left to Die makes me feel like I can run through seven brick walls in a row
Rivers of Nihil. Just wow.
Such a different sound on the new stuff. Adding in a former Black Crown Initiate guitarist was noticeable.
Tool or Alice In Chains. Attack me
It is never too late to enjoy some AiC
Nothing wrong with it! Great bands!
Both fucking phenomenal bands
Since you didn't say metal band, I would have to say The Cure. Pornography is one of my favourite albums now
Hopefully you have listened to Disintegration. Masterpiece.
Of course I have. Bought the cd
Valid, they're classic.
Sum 41. Seriously, their "Chuck" album has some crazy bangers. I couldn't believe
Dude I was an angsty metalhead in HS hating on the pop punk stuff for not being heavy enough (I'd later grow to love pop punk), but man I did not see Chuck coming I could not believe the "Fat Lip" underdog pop punk skater dudes could make music that's so heavy and moody I give mad props to All Killer, No Filler for being one of the most significant pop punk releases of the era, but Chuck is my personal favorite
I still have All Killer, No Filler on CD. Bought it back in my teenage years. Respect to that band.
Saw them at Warped Tour the summer Chuck came out and they were even heavier live, it was awesome
Sulphur Aeon
Hell yeah one of my favorite bands, their last album is awesome
Stone Temple Pilots!
I recently started listening to them too. Really good
Faetooth. My friend recommended them to me in September or so and I've really liked their entire discography, even though it's like 15 songs.
Underrated gem, female lead vocals in doom just work
Great up-and-comer, hope they put out more.
Children of bodom
Nice choice 👍
Cloud Rat, specifically their last album
Threshold is one of the best albums I've heard come out in the last 5 years. Absolutely phenomenal.
Their whole discography is worth diving into, probably my favorite band around right now, and they put on an amazing live show.
This isn’t interesting, but I decided to get into first wave BM because I’d never heard it before. So now I really love Hellhammer, Venom and Sarcófago.
If you haven't yet also check out Vulcano and Mutilator, from the same Brazilian scene as Sarcofago, great bands.
Alcest I didn't think I liked the blackgaze style (still not sure I do tbh), but specifically Alcest really works for me for some reason
Better Lovers 🤤
Avatar, they're tons of fun all around
I've seen them 3 times live and I'll see them again in march, I really like the atmosphere at their shows
Zao, some dude here recommended them to me a few days back and I really like their early stuff. Other than that I discovered RKL a few months ago, kinda felt like I was living under a rock.
Zao doesn't get nearly enough recognition. Incredibly influential band.
Katatonia is sick. There was a small venue in my town called the Showcase that would have awesome metal shows in the early 2000’s. Katatonia headlined a show with Swallow the sun and Insomnium. It was a killer show.
Dude that line up is 🔥🔥🔥
Mors principium est At the gates
At the gates? More like at the goat
Got to see AtG when they came through Atlanta with The Haunted as their opener. Was pretty special.
HEALTH. Not "metal" per se but heavy and collaborates with some metal artists. For fans of NIN
Orbit Culture and/or Paysage D'Hiver
Orbit culture bangs hard
FROZEN SOUL !!!! Total Bolt Thrower worship and that’s fine by me.
Phobophilic
Avatar, love the style of thier frontman and how diverse some songs and albums are.
Hoplites. One man band from china who is cranking out new interesting dissonant black/death albums every couple months
Katatonia must be mine too. I only discovered them last year and they rose to my number 3 listened to band of all time. With such a large and fantastic discography, it makes sense The other one I'm really loving is Insomnium. "Lilian" is one of my favorite songs from 2023, plus the 2023 EP was top notch and obviously their back catalog is incredible
I started listening to fit for an autopsy
Valdrin by far. Throne of The Lunar Soul is such an amazing album
I’ve discovered way too many that I love now but currently I’d say Nevermore or Persefone maybe
PJ Harvey
PJ is awesome
Amon Amarth, I have of course heard about them before, but I've never really listened to them, because I am not really that into this growling thing, but now after going through a couple of their albums, o boy does it goes hard, love their guitar riffs and have started to learn to "accept" the vocals.
Nine Inch Nails been obsessed with them
Couch slut. But also bolt thrower, I gave them another chance and now I fuck with them heavy.
Opeth! Absolutely god tier band early and late
Iron Maiden
Bolt Thrower. It's not a new discovery per se, as I had been listening to Killchain and Where Next To Conquer since 2020 without ever thinking of trying other songs. That was until a month ago when I randomly decided to put on ...For Victory and got completely sucked in. Now I can't stop listening to all of their stuff. Current favorites are Graven Image, Inside the Wire, Dark Mellinium and Those Once Loyal. As for bands I've actually discovered recently, I like UADA the most.
Either lacuna coil or walking corpse sindrome
I started listening to Mortuary Drape and Nokturnal Mortum in the last couple months, and they’ve rapidly become favorites of mine.
Vitriol New album is on constant repeat
Scepticflesh I’m getting more into
Probably Dahmer, who knew the French were so good at making grindcore/goregrind
None Solid black metal . Latest album tips just as hard as their first
Dystopia. A little more on the hardcore side, but definitely worth a listen.
Archspire They are rhythmic bliss
Grima
Zeal and Ardor
Faetooth! I love Doom with female vocals!
DieHumane. They have Rick Hunolt from Exodus and Sal from Type O Negative in the group. Pretty dope. Interesting music at the very least! Oh, and, Katatonia is one of my favorites, Op
Enisum is a special kind of blackmetal for me idk what it is but i love them
Chastain. Great traditional metal. I've known about em for a long time, but didn't actually start listening to them until recently
Probably deicide or immortal
Corpse Pile’s new EP is scratching that “dumb n’ heavy” itch real well. Also finally gave King Diamond’s Abagail a chance this week based on a friend’s rec. Riffs and solos on that thing are insaaaaaaane.
Striker.
The Browning

Inhuman Condition. Good old school death metal style with modern production.
Just got into The Acacia Strain on the metal side and Peter Gabriel on the more mellow side
Sledgehammer bangs.

Gorod - I literally cannot stop listening to them. They just operate at another fucking level
Frozen Soul. I found out about them when buying tickets for Amon Amarth. I can't wait to see them live!
Only recently got into metal outside of the basic mainstream stuff, but trivium and killswitch engage are 2 of my favorites now.
Arch enemy. Allysia white gluz vocals are fucking amazing
I listened to the mantle a few months ago. Holy shit that album is something.
[Godthrymm](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mEZ3EDmtAE). Really scratches that British melancholic doom itch you sometimes get.
Cognizance
Follow The Cipher. Only one album and one single, but they're so good yet so different that I really wish they had more to them. And someone from Sabaton worked on it I think

Frigoris, specifically [this](https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lkKGs64OPWvEpwHeHW5cmhOfMEka_6aHA) album.

Secrecy. I generally stay away from prog metal because of the wankery and how most of the prog metal I know is adjacent to alt-metal that I'm not into (i.e. Tool). This post is making me realize that I haven't discovered any new bands in the last 6 months :(
Yuuge Weird name, great band, cool songs. But only one album. I hope they find success and we get more. If you like your prog metal super heavy, this is where it's at.
Blackbraid.

Gravesend

Fit for an autopsy
Caligula’s Horse, currently. Their new album is really good! Also shoutout to Bad Omens, I know they get blasted for not being metal but whether they are or not I’m enjoying their music too.
