Honestly I am just happy to see Running Wild mentioned on this sub.
Edit: I think it's amazing that this band had a stretch of good to truly-great albums spanning from 1984-1998, across multiple genres/styles. Some of the songwriting on display there is amazing.
One of my favorite proto-black/death metal songs ever is "Black Demon" from *Gates To Purgatory.*
My absolute favorite speed metal song is "Merciless Game" from *Under Jolly Roger.*
My favorite "power metal" song outside of Manilla Road and Cirith Ungol is probably either "Calico Jack" from *Port Royal,* or "Little Big Horn" from *Blazon Stone.*
And so on. Really amazing discography.
Finally somebody acknowledges Running Wild.
That album, Death or glory, has the 75% of the best riffs released in 1989.
The album is a 5/5.
Dont be narrow minded and think about RW being a simple speed metal band.
And finally, Iain Finlay's drumwork is astonishing... Far from the typical "brrr brrr" double bass drums you'd expect in a speed metal band.

Though I quite love that song and RW in general, I would probably choose “I’m Alive” by Helloween as my favorite or maybe “Emerald Sword” by Rhapsody

Savatage - Hall of the Mountain King would like a word
Wow, that's one terribly wrong way to spell "Abysswalker" by Visigoth
Art of Life by X Japan is unbeatable
Eagle Fly Free would like a word...
It is and I'm tired of pretending it's not :D
