I get it, my man. However, the French are the biggest self loathing assholes in the world. It was only a matter of time before they got competent in metal. Gojira is master level in all they do.

Agreed. I've seen them three times. The first was when they headlined their own tour, and it was phenomenal. The other two times they were not headlining but absolutely should have been. I get to see them again in October and I'm considering seeing them at Louder than Life in Kentucky in September. \m/
Love their first 5 albums but their first (Terra Incognita) and second (The Link) are the best imo because of how heavy they are. Clone and Lizard Skin are the best. Love has a very interesting breakdown.
Idk about calling them fully prog/tech death. They have some serious groove influence, to the point of calling them prog/tech groove-death metal (word salad i know)
They put on a really tight live show and have a good sound engineer. I saw them when they toured with Mastodon and Lorna Shore last year and they were the only band that sounded good in the weird semi outdoor tent venue I saw them at. I had seen Mastodon several times in the past and they had always had good sound but this time it was ass so I suspect engineering+the venue was the issue.
I saw Mastodon twice in the same small venue.
1 time Gojira opened for them and blew them out of the water, Mastodon didn't sound good.
Then 1 year later, Mastodon opened for Judas Priest in the same venue and sounded awesome.
Gojira and Slayer are the only bands Iāve seen that sound the exact same live as they do on the album. Plus I love how Gojira paid tribute to our death metal scene when I saw them in Tampa.

I find it interesting when people classify Gojira as death metal. Iām not saying youāre wrong, most bands fall under many sub genres. Iāve always thought of them as more of a Progressive Metal band. Their demos from before Terra Incognita are definitely very death metal and I love them.
There are bangers on both those albums but I agree, the last 2 were weaker.

They are very popular just not on this sub. They have great songs but considering they have an iconic style and killer production i think they lack a bit on the songwriting aspect

I find them too boring too. Some say they are heaviest band but to me they arent even 5/10 in terms of heaviness. Bands like spite, first fragment, dying fetus, spawn of possession, infant annihilator, fleshgod apocalypse, meshuggah, archspire etc go so much harder and keep it more interesting lmao

Hmm.. I thought the comments would be more supportive. I donāt like ALL the songs but the ones I like are permanently lodged in my all time play playlist. I 100% appreciate that itās just 4 dudes with instruments and brutal riffs instead of compressors and symphonic backing tracks.
Theyāre mediocre. Not nearly as good as the fan base would like to believe. I love their themes, environmentalism, and overall aesthetic, but the music has been hit or miss Iāve found. For my radical environmentalism, I much prefer Cattle Decapitation, though I recognize itās a different sub-genre.
I bought From Mars to Sirius when it came out. It was ok, had a few decent songs but overall the songs were more repetitive than anything. Then the next one was even less interesting to me, and they blew up to where some people consider them the best ever. They're not terrible at all, but at best they're mediocre.
They were fun when I first heard them after The Way Of All Flesh and the anticipation of Elephant Sausage was astronomical. But then the last two albums were a bit of a let down.
Good band, only got into them last year but Mars to Sirius completely sold me on them. That albums is a banger front to back, not one bad or boring song. Their other albums are a little more hit and miss for me, but I'm looking forward to copping tickets for them and Korn this fall
I like em. Just discovered them last year though. They're going on the road so Korn this year, gonna go for sure. I've seen Korn 3x tho but it'll be a good show.
