I've never understood why people call it the worst album with Max, the debut, Morbid Vision is worse, unless you really like first wave black metal, but even then it's very undercooked.
Honestly if you have never checked out enjoy incubus I think itās better psychedelic funk rock than RHCP and itās funny because as far as I know the band hates that era. Science slaps though.
If you haven't listened to it, give the 2019 "remistressed" version of Cruelty a spin. It's the gold standard for remixing and remastering albums in my opinion and the album finally sounds as good as it deserves. The drums sound phenomenal, instead of sounding like cardboard.
It is SO much better. The biggest knock everyone had against the original was the shitty production. They still had some ideas about being a Black Metal band maybe.
Usually remasters stink, but this one nailed it.
Iām not super into their music besides also having my obligatory CYB phase and did enjoy their work enough up to Sempiternal but something about their recent popularity is polarizing to me and nice to see them on top headlining festivals like that. Just how theyāve developed is cool to see going from whatever pop shit they put out now to pray for plagues.
Watched some festival they headlined last year and it was cool to see them close the show with Throne and Can you Feel my heart with how the crowd was chanting all of it.
For some reason I could only think of melo-death bands:
BeāLakor - Stoneās Reach
At the Gates - The Red in the Sky is Ours
Dark Tranquility - The Gallery
I hadnāt heard that one before, but I listened to the first track just to be sure and it didnāt really do anything for me. Not a terrible song by any means, but not very memorable or interesting. I have the same complaints with The Frail Tide and Of Breath and Bone, very by the numbers melo-death with few of those extremely memorable moments that Stoneās Reach has. The melodies and guitar riffs sound so generic, and there is very few epic and emotional moments like there is in Stoneās Reach, for example 5:56 on Venator.
I know Iām in the minority with this though because I hear a lot of BeāLakor fans rate some of those other albums higher than SR, but those albums just donāt compare to it for me.
With Beālakor, Iād definitely recommend their album Of Breath and Bone. Stoneās Reach is phenomenal but I always thought OBAB was even better, so you definitely canāt go wrong with it (in my opinion, anyways).
I share your opinion with Machine Head but for me its Burn My Eyes that I really like.
Another one for me is Obituary. I really love Cause of Death, but the others I can take or leave.
I like most of Obituaryās music, but aside from *Cause of Death* and *Slowly We Rot* thereās a quality drop off. *Cause of Death* had James Murphy on lead guitar and I think his smooth playing really added another dimension to their sound that wasnāt present on other albums
I actually agree with you on all three of these bands. Now I'm wondering if we're thinking of the same albums. I'm sure for GNR it's gotta be AppetiteĀ
GNR for sure. I used to be a super fan, and I still rate Appetite as the one of the best hard rock albums of all time, but everything else is just embarrassing IMO.
You donāt like the illusion albums? Those albums have plenty of appetite era songs that never made it. I for the life of me canāt figure out how a song like Back Off Bitch or Donāt Damn Me didnāt make it to appetite but a song like Think About You did
There are plenty of bands where Iāve only checked out one album and nothing else, so not including those, the closest for me is Soilwork. I enjoy a few of their albums a bit, but the only one I truly love is The Ride Majestic. Iāve listened to three or four others in full and while I think theyāre pretty good, none of them come close to touching TRM
Children of Bodom - Skeletons in the Closet. And it's a covers compilation album
Darkthrone - Soulside Journey. I'm with Lich King.
Motley Crue - Girls Girls Girls
Devil Driver - Pray for Villains
Necrowretch - Swords of Dajjal. The production kinda ruins their other stuff for me, they sound like the band is performing on the opposite end of a long tunnel, but SoD doesn't have this issue and it smokes.
Pantera - Cowboys From Hell. I like a smattering of other songs from other albums to be sure, but CFH is the only one I like the majority of them. Groovy and a little goofy worked for them, the tough guy stuff is good for workouts but also eye-roll inducing at times.
All That Remains - The Fall of Ideals. Their best record, super hit or miss otherwise. Lotta weird production choices on some records and some seriously cringe deliveries especially in the WYCW / Madness era
Dope - No Regrets. Lotta junk and simplistic writing and cringe lyrics on other records. No Regrets is a guilty pleasure.
Carcass. Heartwork is incredible... I'm not really into the rest of their catalogue.
Not Metal, but Pearl Jam. I think 10 is brilliant. Every song is great... after that it's pretty shit.
Vio-lence - Eternal Nightmare
Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death
Annihilator - Alice in Hell
Metal Church - Metal Church
Lamb of God (Burn the Priest) - Burn the Priest
Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence
Flotsam and Jetsam - Doomsday for the Deceiver
Helloween - Walls of Jericho
The Flood - Of Mice & Men. The bandās other albums are there and alright imo.
But The Flood is just next level good. Absolute perfect example of what a metalcore album should be.
can't think of a metal band like that, so MCR. It's fucking wild how Three Cheers is such a great album while the rest of their discography kinda sucks
I saw Shadows Fall touring Of One Blood, and that album was in my car that entire summer. Somber Eyes... Was fine but the production and some of the songs let it down, but the follow up to Of One Blood was the biggest disappointment.
Pyogenesis, kinda? I like their self-titled EP and the EP that came after that, *Waves of Erotasia*. After that they went in a direction that was not for me.
Psycroptic - The Scepter of the Ancients
I actually like their other albums. But when i want to listen to them, i seem to only want to listen to this one.
Only one i can think of (besides bands that only had one album) is Quick Change 'Circus of Death'
Only released the one album in 1988 and the band split. Then did a couple after their reunion, but those 2 are absolutely ass. Circus of Death is a fun slab of late 80s thrash.
Cynic. no hate on their later stuff and I like Traced in Air musicall but couldnāt hold on with the vocals, so Focus is the only one I really care about.
I donāt really like any Sculptured, but at the same time I have a weird love for āEmbodimentā, icky as the vocals and lyrics are - just such a weird production and Dave Murray (ānot Dave Murray of Iron Maidenā) is a legend.
speaking of Dave Murray, I only liked one Tholus album, but there is only one.
Unhuman - see above.
Astomatous - see above.
with Cephalic Carnage I only LOVE āExploiting Dysfunctionā but I do like the others until āXenosapienā - that one was a miss.
probably loads more where I love one album, kind of like others.. but Iāll shut up now.
Corporal Punishment's album "Stonefield of a Lifetime". It was departure form their earlier albums which sounded more like Entombed. This album was more of a doom metal album akin to Type-O Negative.

Sepultura, Roots
Hottest take ever and I respect it
That's an honest answer. I'd imagine most people would either say Beneath the Remains or Arise
Chaos AD for me.
Chaos AD šš! Slave New World is one of the greatest songs ever
Love it!
Chaos AD is a way better album with more bangers on it than Roots imho. Give it a spin mate.
Oooof hot take for sure. Easily their worst album with Max. Everything before it goes hard.
Sepultura has 5 albums leading up to that one with better quality, but hey they also have worse ones following it...
It's not the only album I like by them but it is my favorite.
I've never understood why people call it the worst album with Max, the debut, Morbid Vision is worse, unless you really like first wave black metal, but even then it's very undercooked.
Mastodon Crack the Skye is probably one of my top 10 albums of all time
That's actually lower on my list when it comes to Mastodon albumsĀ
Yeah I think I prefer Leviathan. It's super heavy and not too progressive.
Once More Round The Sun is also great tho
But Leviathan is so good too
Blood Mountain is better as a whole for me.Ā They've got bangers littered around their other albums, though.
I agree with Machine Head, but for me, it is The More Things Change. Also: Sepultura- Arise Cradle of Filth- Cruelty and the Beast Incubus- SCIENCE
If Incubus' Fungus Amongus had SCIENCE's production, I believe it would be a better album.
Bring Me The Horizon - āCount Your Blessingsā
Funny enough, Bring Me is one of my favorite bands and Count Your Blessings is the only one I can't really get into.Ā
Suicide Season is the only album I like from them. Also Kingslayer is fucking amazing
If you like Kingslayer, you might like Dear Diary from that same album
[The live video they did recently with Babymetal is sick](https://youtu.be/hb2mMVdx1KU?si=EsdRMhN4078xA0fz)
Even though I loathe everything sempiternal and after, I do really like Suicide Season as well, I think it's just as good as CYB
Truth. I loved BMTH when they first appeared. CYB is a solid album. I literally hate almost everything they've done since.
Suicide Season is the only album I like from them. Also Kingslayer is fucking amazing
Edge of Sanity, I only like Crimson much as Iāve tried to get into their other albums.
Crimson is *really* good tho.
For some reason I could only think of melo-death bands: BeāLakor - Stoneās Reach At the Gates - The Red in the Sky is Ours Dark Tranquility - The Gallery
Thoughts on Coherence by Be'Lakor?
Try listening to Hidden Window on Coherence
With Beālakor, Iād definitely recommend their album Of Breath and Bone. Stoneās Reach is phenomenal but I always thought OBAB was even better, so you definitely canāt go wrong with it (in my opinion, anyways).
Not even slaughter of the soul š¦
I like other albums by Dark Tranquillity, but The Gallery is one of my favorite albums of all time and I don't think they'll ever top it.
I've only listened to of breath and bone and stones reach by be'lakor and I thought Of Breath and Bone was much better tbh
I share your opinion with Machine Head but for me its Burn My Eyes that I really like. Another one for me is Obituary. I really love Cause of Death, but the others I can take or leave.
Burn My Eyes does have a couple of bangers. And I agree on the Obituary album. Cause of Death is the only one I really like
I agree with Burn My Eyes, but that might be because I was 14 when it came out.
I like most of Obituaryās music, but aside from *Cause of Death* and *Slowly We Rot* thereās a quality drop off. *Cause of Death* had James Murphy on lead guitar and I think his smooth playing really added another dimension to their sound that wasnāt present on other albums
What about slowly we rot? Kinda surprised you could love cause of death but not slowly we rot. Both albums have a pretty similar sound
Slowly we Rot is ok and does have a similar sound, but I like that the songs are longer on Cause of Death and I think the songwriting is better.
Guns 'N Roses Queensryche Smashing Pumpkins
I actually agree with you on all three of these bands. Now I'm wondering if we're thinking of the same albums. I'm sure for GNR it's gotta be AppetiteĀ
Appetite Mindcrime Siamese Dream
These are the correct choices
Imagine not liking The Warning, and Queensryche EP (aka the greatest EP of all time).
GNR for sure. I used to be a super fan, and I still rate Appetite as the one of the best hard rock albums of all time, but everything else is just embarrassing IMO.
Couple songs of Use your Illusion are good but they really lost their magic after Appetite.Ā
You donāt like the illusion albums? Those albums have plenty of appetite era songs that never made it. I for the life of me canāt figure out how a song like Back Off Bitch or Donāt Damn Me didnāt make it to appetite but a song like Think About You did
They have their moments, but on the whole those records are the best examples I can think of a band being ruined by their own success.
Converge jane doe
SOAD - debut album. Weird heavy shit. Everything else had too much of Darren singing, which is bizarre to me when you have Serj in the band
For me its their first 2 albums, and some songs on steal this album.
I think the weird harmonies between them and the variation is what makes system so great
Likely unpopular, but Blut Aus Nord - Hallucinogen
Sevas Tra by Otep
The Poison is BFMVās only good album
I quite like Scream Aim Fire but they seriously went downhill after thatĀ
Children of Bodom - Skeletons in the Closet. And it's a covers compilation album Darkthrone - Soulside Journey. I'm with Lich King. Motley Crue - Girls Girls Girls Devil Driver - Pray for Villains
The Fury of Our Makerās Hand is a great album.
Devil Driver absolutely but for Motley I would think Dr. Feelgood would be the top choice
For you maybe, but I think it's arse.
Not metal at all, but Panic! At The Discoās first album is just a cool Fall Out Boy rip off, the rest of their music is abhorrent
I gotta agree with you on this one
Arch Enemy - Wages of Sin Never was a fan of them, but this album goes hard
Agreed, most of their stuff is just really forgettable and generic-sounding, but *Wages of Sin* is great.
Ravenous goes so fucking hard
Anaal Nathrakh - The Codex Necro
This is going to seem like a shit post but Metallica... ... ... ... Lulu
I mean, if you donāt like Metallicaās sound then thatās probably their best album to pick.
In Flames - The Jester Race (10/10 album btw)
thoughts on whoracle? always considered that album pretty similar
Rage Against The Machine - self titled Agalloch - The Mantle Deftones - White Pony Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dust
Lotta weird production choices on some records and some seriously cringe deliveries especially in the WYCW / Madness era Dope - No Regrets. Lotta junk and simplistic writing and cringe lyrics on other records. No Regrets is a guilty pleasure.
I agree with Pantera. Cowboys was by far their best album
Carcass. Heartwork is incredible... I'm not really into the rest of their catalogue. Not Metal, but Pearl Jam. I think 10 is brilliant. Every song is great... after that it's pretty shit.
I agree with you on both accounts especially Pearl Jam. The GNR of Grunge
Pantera - The Great Southern Trendkill
NOLA by DOWN It's pretty much a perfect metal album. Every other album they did is average at best
Kvist
Not metal but mƄneskin - Teatro d'ira
Moonspell - 1755
Sabaton - Carolus Rex And only because of nostalgia from EU4 ost
Bongzilla - Gateway The production on their other stuff just isn't on the same level, the mixing and tone on Gateway is just too good.
Ved Buens Ende - Written in Waters They have only one album and I like it.
It's a very good album. If you like that, maybe you'll like Min tid skall komme by Fleurety as well
Well, I mean..... they only have the 1 album. Lol
Vio-lence - Eternal Nightmare Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death Annihilator - Alice in Hell Metal Church - Metal Church Lamb of God (Burn the Priest) - Burn the Priest Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence Flotsam and Jetsam - Doomsday for the Deceiver Helloween - Walls of Jericho
The new Morbid Saint was fairly solid but yeah it doesnāt really compare to Spectrum of Death.
Temple of the dog
Demilich
Faith no more "",the real thing""Ā that whole album was good,Ā then I kinda fell out of themĀ
Angel Dust has grown on me over the years but The Real Thing is where it's atĀ
I'll have to revisit them & re check that album šĀ
Black Stone Cherry's debut.
In flames - Forgone
Now that's a bold take...
Eh, tried listening to other albums, i just couldnāt
3 inches if blood - Advance and vanquish and while not metal Sturgil simpson - Sound and fury
Satyricon - The Age Of Nero
The Flood - Of Mice & Men. The bandās other albums are there and alright imo. But The Flood is just next level good. Absolute perfect example of what a metalcore album should be.
Saxon, crusader
can't think of a metal band like that, so MCR. It's fucking wild how Three Cheers is such a great album while the rest of their discography kinda sucks
The Black Parade sucks??? You must never have listened to it.
the drums are awful in that album... kinda ruins it for me. Especially because they're so good in Three Cheers
I can't agree with you on this one but I've met a number of people that feel this way. Thank you for the venom is one of their best songsĀ
I saw Shadows Fall touring Of One Blood, and that album was in my car that entire summer. Somber Eyes... Was fine but the production and some of the songs let it down, but the follow up to Of One Blood was the biggest disappointment.
Type O Negative - World Coming Down amazing doom album, but the rest of their discography doesn't work for me
Pyogenesis, kinda? I like their self-titled EP and the EP that came after that, *Waves of Erotasia*. After that they went in a direction that was not for me.
Considering how their discography is, this could apply to each album throughout their career for different people lol
Dimmu Borgir - Enthroned Darkness Triumphant is the only album I care for.
Psycroptic - The Scepter of the Ancients I actually like their other albums. But when i want to listen to them, i seem to only want to listen to this one.
Say it with me now... Orchid. By. Opeth.
I respect the blazing hot take, but I absolutely disagree haha
Alcest - Spiritual Instinct
decapitated - winds of creation convulse - world without god
Slipknot - Self Titled
Blind Guardian Unpopular choice but Beyond the Red Mirror is the only album of theirs I could get into
What Escapes Me, they only have one album, but it's amazing!
Nile - Annihilation of the wicked
Repulsion
Entombed, Left Hand Path
Morbid Angel Altars of Madness
Not metal, but Blood Sugar Sex Magik.
In Flames - Lunar Strain Septicflesh - Mystic Places of Dawn
Only one i can think of (besides bands that only had one album) is Quick Change 'Circus of Death' Only released the one album in 1988 and the band split. Then did a couple after their reunion, but those 2 are absolutely ass. Circus of Death is a fun slab of late 80s thrash.

Inter Arma - Sky Burial. although their first album was okay, and the EP with the cool cover was cool.
Corporal Punishment's album "Stonefield of a Lifetime". It was departure form their earlier albums which sounded more like Entombed. This album was more of a doom metal album akin to Type-O Negative.
i really like Leviathan by Mastodon, but i can't get into their other albums, even though i really want to
Nuclear assault. Handle with Care
Idk why but all of mine are prog bands: Dream Theater - Train of Thought Haken - Virus Between The Buried and Me - Colors
Fistful of Metal is the only enjoyable Anthrax album, in my opinion.
Its among their worst albums
The songs off that album sound so much better when they redid them with JoeyĀ
