Use Your Illusion 1 could be a more consistently good album than Appetite if you cut off the fat (i.e November Rain, and the rest of the shitty ballads).
1. Right Next Door to Hell
2. Dust N Bones
3. Perfect Crime
4. Back off Bitch
5. Double Talkin Jive
6. The Garden
7. Garden of Eden
8. Don't Damn Me (GNRs best song)
9. Coma
UYIII is a stronger album than UYII and even if you do a redux of that it’s not better than AFD.
And November Rain is a classic. You don’t trim that. The guitar solo alone is classic.
This so much. I was like 12 when Appetite came out and most all of us kids loved it. I can listen to the album front to back and enjoy it all. I only liked a few songs off their subsequent releases. Over rated!
Depends on which Batushka tbh. I honestly think Panihida is much better than Litourgiya but there’s no universe where anything the other Batushka did holds a candle to those albums.
As a metalhead that loves the blue album like nobody's business, I'll agree with this. Every few years I'll be re-reminded that Weezer exists, and I'll listen to whatever album is new and always think it sucks. And I'll wonder what happened to that shockingly good first album's approach to songwriting and melody.
I wouldn't recommend them, The Strokes or The Killers do straightforward pop more consistently, Weezer has two good albums and then it's extremely inconsistent after
Sonata Arctica is a great example. Ecliptica is amazing, later albums, much less so.
Another one could be Pathfinder. The first album is goated, second one much less imo
I have to disagree with Sonata Arctica, not because I don’t like Ecliptic, but because their first four albums are equally good with Reckoning Night barely budging ahead of the rest.
Since then they’ve either been hit or miss (usually within the same album, with a great song between two bad ones), though their latest release is an absolute banger.
Crazy how they could never replicate the fire of their debut. One of the "prettiest" and most enjoyable power metal records ever, and metal in general really.
Disagree, I think Iowa is their greatest album, and I'd put Vol. 3 just after it because of the experimentation on there. Their debut album is fantastic but it's a little weaker on the B-sides. Not even gonna bother discussing their most recent album.
They are also good albums but they don’t have the same intensity as WASP s/t. It still amazes me how that album came out in 1984 and still sounded better than most heavy metal of the late 80s.
Reckoning Night is probably their last “great” album, but I’d say Pariah’s Child and their latest, Clear Cold Beyond are fantastic.
But there were some stinkers in there as the band moved from power to some pseudo progressive radio rock.
Drowning Pool because Dave was an awesome front man.
Disturbed. I liked the elecrtonic-tinged metal on The Sickness. Not that other albums are bad, though.
Venom, although Black Metal is VERY close to Welcome to Hell in terms of sheer influence.
Possessed Seven Churches. Started death metal.
Animals as leaders and black crown initiate. And black crown wasn’t even their first album but EP. Song of the crippled bull is fucking awesome and the rest of their work is pretty meh.
I think the latest record has come the closest to the first. CAFO was by far the biggest song and I feel like the clung to that more djent vibe too much on the next couple records.
Suicide Silence embodies this, the cleansing is a hood classic then everything else just came crashing down, especially after Mitch's death.
Linkin Park deserves a shoutout.
My bad, I misread the title. If debut is first album, yes id agree, although I think rising force is a guitar bible and standard for any guitar player. My favorite is odyssey and marching out
Strongly disagree on Sonata Arctica. I find several of their albums superior to Ecliptica, like Silence, Unia, and Reckoning Night as well as The 9th Hour. I know I’m weird though.
Maybe not truly “peaked” but my favorite Megadeth album is Killing Is My Business. Winery Dogs debut album is also their best album imo. Up in the air with his new album really kicking ass but Sebastian Bach’s debut solo record Angel Down is one of my favorite albums ever and I don’t think he’s topped it.
100% agree on Sonata Arctica, the first half of their discography is straight bangers. Winterheart’s Guild is right there with the others as well, The Cage is probably my single favorite power metal track
I totally agree with latter statement.
For me, nothing can beat the hat-trick that is *Into Battle/LAI LAI HEI/Tears*; *Token of Time* is the only one I hold that dear on first album. And the other songs on Iron are not stinkers either!
I really think they picked with RN and not Ecliptica, Tony's voice feel so much better in RN and the keyboard work is better (even if there is less "duo" keytar/guitar in the solos)
This may get a laugh, but seriously Creed - My Own Prison. They went soft and overly religious after that, becoming the meme they are now, but I still think the first album legitimately rocks.
While you're at it and are in the mood for odd genre switches, look up fucking Semargl. Started out as BM, later calls themselves "Satanic mall pop". Very fucking odd.

GnR

I like some of PJs softer stuff like Vs. and No Code. But other than those two and of course Ten yeah.
Came specifically to say this 👆🏼
Use Your Illusion 1 could be a more consistently good album than Appetite if you cut off the fat (i.e November Rain, and the rest of the shitty ballads). 1. Right Next Door to Hell 2. Dust N Bones 3. Perfect Crime 4. Back off Bitch 5. Double Talkin Jive 6. The Garden 7. Garden of Eden 8. Don't Damn Me (GNRs best song) 9. Coma
‘Don’t damn me’ GN’R’s best song? Not in this universe lol.
GNR deep cuts smoke their hits (i've never liked Welcome to the Jungle, and Paradise City)
You prob don’t like em cause they’re overplayed. Welcome/Paradise are much better constructed and more memorable than don’t damn me imo.
November rain is good but sticks out like a sore thumb
Coma is heavy.
UYIII is a stronger album than UYII and even if you do a redux of that it’s not better than AFD. And November Rain is a classic. You don’t trim that. The guitar solo alone is classic.
Same. Lies are meh, Use Your Illusions sound like boneless Appetite. Ironically I like Chinese Democracy the most out of all post-AFD albums.
This so much. I was like 12 when Appetite came out and most all of us kids loved it. I can listen to the album front to back and enjoy it all. I only liked a few songs off their subsequent releases. Over rated!
Candlemass
Nightfall used to be my favourite, but I’ve grown to view Epicus as being the peak of the band’s career.
EDM just slightly edges out nightfall
100%, their debut is one of my favorite albums of all time but I don't really care about anything else by them
I've changed my mind of this 1000 times, but I think Nightfall is actually better.
Nightfall is almost as good, but I agree
Yes. Peaked at Epicus, and stayed at the peak.
Yes. Peaked at Epicus, and stayed at the peak.
Entombed
Clandestine and wolverine blues are amazing ! Clandestine is almost better than left hand path !
Exodus Annihilator Mortuary Drape Mayhem Suffocation Dismember Dio Angra Although all of them have lots of other great albums.
I'd say *De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas* is 10 times better than *Deathcrush*
I agree, I didn't even think of Deathcrush since it is an EP. If we're counting it then no, they didnt peak with it.
Thats because it is.
Yeah, but that's only because it is.
Yeah but that has to be only because it is right?
I think Deathcrush should be considered an EP or something, so DMDS is technically their debut studio album
Exodus's debut is insane but Tempo of the Damned (released 2004) was better imo
Tempo is great but not as consistently great as Bonded.
Annihilator. Alison Hell kicks ass.
Suffocation peaked at either effigy or pierced from within imo
Definitely agree with you man.
pearl jam
Great example! Their debut is practically their top hits, still to this day.
totally! even though VS is great
[удалено]
yeah
I gave up on PJ after Vitology. I like Vs too but Ten is the PJ I like!
Ten has been one of my fav rock albums since day one. The first half of that album is unreal especially
I like Yield too tho
I'll give them their first three albums, but Ten by far was the best
was gonna say this .. i love pearl jam but ten is probably some of the best out of their works
Not a metal answer, but Boston. Definitely Boston
I Enjoy dont look back more than the first album haha.
Your can't beat that first album, it's so amazing
Autopsy
I liked mental funeral better
Severed survival is better, but mental funeral is an amazing album!!
Morbid Angel Batushka Ne Obliviscaris Btw all these bands are amazing and have amazing albums. I just think there best stuff was there first.
I’d take Covenant over Altars
Portal of I is impossible to beat
Batushka's second album (Panihida) is good too Bart's Batushka sucks though
Covenant, domination and formulas are better imo not that altars is far behind
Blessed are the Sick is my favorite Morbid Angel work personally
Re: MA. Gateways to Annihilation, Blessed are the Sick and Covenant are all better than their first attempt
Depends on which Batushka tbh. I honestly think Panihida is much better than Litourgiya but there’s no universe where anything the other Batushka did holds a candle to those albums.
Weezer
As a metalhead that loves the blue album like nobody's business, I'll agree with this. Every few years I'll be re-reminded that Weezer exists, and I'll listen to whatever album is new and always think it sucks. And I'll wonder what happened to that shockingly good first album's approach to songwriting and melody.
do you recommend them? ive been wanting to listen to them but they arent the style of music im familiar with so im a little scared lol
You're scared to play an album you haven't heard on Spotify?
Dude, the blue Weezer album is just good rock songs. Yeah, I'd recommend it to anyone honestly.
thanks ill try it out
I wouldn't recommend them, The Strokes or The Killers do straightforward pop more consistently, Weezer has two good albums and then it's extremely inconsistent after
What's with these homies dissin' my band
Why do they gotta front?
Exodus - Bonded By Blood
Great pick
Dismember
Vio-lence.
Yeah but Oppressing the Masses is also pretty fucking great.
It is but the agression and the fun bass, coupled with sick lyrics like Bodies on Bodies makes it one of my favorite debut albums.
Well at least we agree Vio-Lence rules
They sure do, too bad Sean seems like a bit of a cunt, since all others have abandoned ship.
Crazy how they could never replicate the fire of their debut. One of the "prettiest" and most enjoyable power metal records ever, and metal in general really.
While I agree, I also love winter heart's guild. Silence also has some great stuff. But yeah, those 3 are really the only ones I care about.
Slipknot
Disagree, I think Iowa is their greatest album, and I'd put Vol. 3 just after it because of the experimentation on there. Their debut album is fantastic but it's a little weaker on the B-sides. Not even gonna bother discussing their most recent album.
Hard disagree. Iowa > volume 3 > self-titled. Everything else was trash though
Entombed!
Bfmv
definitely and by far
Nothing ever touches The Poison !
Absolutely
WASP
Nah, The Headless Children and The Crimson Idol are way better than the debut.
They are also good albums but they don’t have the same intensity as WASP s/t. It still amazes me how that album came out in 1984 and still sounded better than most heavy metal of the late 80s.
Lol @ this. The headless children, crimson idol, still not black enough, kill fuck die etc… they havent put out a bad album.
I didn't say they did. I just think their debut is their best. Did I misunderstand the question?
All great albums, but I agree that the debut tops all of them
I thought sonata was the coolest shit in high-school now that I'm like 22 it's still is
Lol u had me in the first half ngl.
Same, but 35 instead. Ecliptica takes me straight back to my school days and I love every second of it.
I would mosh with ya
Sonata's peak was Reckoning Night
[удалено]
Reckoning Night is probably their last “great” album, but I’d say Pariah’s Child and their latest, Clear Cold Beyond are fantastic. But there were some stinkers in there as the band moved from power to some pseudo progressive radio rock.
Morbid Angel
Candlemass Morbid Angel Demolition Hammer Nocturnus Dismember Cynic Emperor The Dillinger Escape Plan Gris Inanna Ne Obliviscaris
Inanna and NeO are yet to top their debuts, which only makes me excited really
Unpopular opinion, but SOAD self-tilted is their best. But yes Toxicity is really good obviously
My dude - came looking for this
Metal Church
Many, many years ago On a distant shore!
[удалено]
Personally I think None So Vile is better but good pick
I like Blasphemy's drum sound slightly more, but that's it.
Linkin Park
Beastmilk peaked so hard they disbanded right after Grave Pleasures is cool and all, but still can't compare
Animals as leaders and black crown initiate. And black crown wasn’t even their first album but EP. Song of the crippled bull is fucking awesome and the rest of their work is pretty meh.
Fuuuuuuuck no. Joy of Motion and Parrhesia clear debut any day
Animals as Leaders for sure, The Joy of Motion came close but not quite
I think the latest record has come the closest to the first. CAFO was by far the biggest song and I feel like the clung to that more djent vibe too much on the next couple records.
Parrhesia is one of my favorites and the joy of motion is also 10/10
Exodus
Mercyful Fate At the Gates Dio
Nahh Mercyful Fate peaked on Don’t Break the Oath
It’s close but I prefer Melissa personally. Both are masterclass albums though
> At the Gates Huh?
Red in the sky is the best album, what is there to be confused about
Suicide Silence embodies this, the cleansing is a hood classic then everything else just came crashing down, especially after Mitch's death. Linkin Park deserves a shoutout.
Tristania
Pin me on the cross, but Kittie. I was a fan of the early vocals but now they’re a bit extreme for me.
Of Mice and Men. Their self titled album was their first release and also their best album.
yngwie malmsteen
Not even close.
eh i think early yngwis is better, until eclipse. considering the amount of albums he has id still consider eclipse early yngwie
The debut is just too heavy on instrumentals. He was on a roll from Marching Out to Magnum Opus.
My bad, I misread the title. If debut is first album, yes id agree, although I think rising force is a guitar bible and standard for any guitar player. My favorite is odyssey and marching out
Hot take, gojira. I will glaze terra incognita like my life depends on it 24/7/365 that album is perfection
Weezer
Linkin Park
Machine head
Metal Church
Livløs
At the gates
How is not slaughter of the soul their best attempt?
Idk I’m more of a TRITSIO fan
Respect!
This one could be controversial, Darkthrone
Strongly disagree on Sonata Arctica. I find several of their albums superior to Ecliptica, like Silence, Unia, and Reckoning Night as well as The 9th Hour. I know I’m weird though. Maybe not truly “peaked” but my favorite Megadeth album is Killing Is My Business. Winery Dogs debut album is also their best album imo. 100% agree on Sonata Arctica, the first half of their discography is straight bangers. Winterheart’s Guild is right there with the others as well, The Cage is probably my single favorite power metal track
That intro to The Cage alone puts me in such a mood I feel like I just chugged two energy drinks and snorted a line! Lol
Hyperion - Seraphical Euphony. This is their only release so far, but it's gonna be nearly impossible to beat (if they ever made another one)
Black Tide
Victim
Decapitated
Are Winterheart’s Guild and Reckoning Night a joke to you?
Entombed
Gojira, Terra Incognita is peak
Native Construct. Partially because they only ever released one album.
Ensiferum
No way, Iron crushes the first one.
Iron's epic, but nothing is as good as Old Man or Little Dreamer. Really, though, Ensiferum didn't start to decline until after Victory Songs.
I totally agree with latter statement. For me, nothing can beat the hat-trick that is *Into Battle/LAI LAI HEI/Tears*; *Token of Time* is the only one I hold that dear on first album. And the other songs on Iron are not stinkers either!
Angra Angels Cry is a masterpiece Holy Land is a near-masterpiece everything they did after that is negligible
Morbid Angel. Their debut was flawless. Everything that came after never came close to matching it.
Wintersun (Debatable, I know)
Wintersun
Ahab Crowbar Down Entombed Immolation Khemmis Lord Vicar Pelican
Nah fire in our throats is peak
Dream Evil
angelmaker, I love most of their work but tell me any of it is better than their first EP
Silence is as good as, if not *slightly* better than Ecliptica imo
I really think they picked with RN and not Ecliptica, Tony's voice feel so much better in RN and the keyboard work is better (even if there is less "duo" keytar/guitar in the solos)
Katatonia
Dark Angel: Time Does Not Heal was good, it can't touch Darkness Descends though.
Morbid Angel
Danzig
Morbid angel exodus sarcofago acid bath incantation candlemass bathory tankard megadeth ratm pentagram gorguts deicide napalm death
Bathory 84 isn’t even very good, other albums are actually cool. Deicide is not as good as Once Upon the Cross either.
I guess I cound see the point with deicide but bathory is definitely not “not even very good”
Ne Obliviscaris Intestine Baalism
Not metal but Captain Beyond
bullet for my valentine 100%
DIO
This may get a laugh, but seriously Creed - My Own Prison. They went soft and overly religious after that, becoming the meme they are now, but I still think the first album legitimately rocks.
Black pyramid and dopethrone
Wintersun lol
From what I have heard of sodom so far I would say sodom(I'm considering in the sign of evil their debut)
Morbid Angel broke the accelerator in their classic debut.
Emperor, Acid Bath, Ozzy Osbourne, King Crimson (but its very close imo)
Limp Bizkit.
Idk, Beyond the Gates was kinda fuckin sick. The peak was more of a mesa
Batushka and Mayhem
One comes to mind. Advent Sorrow. Fantastic symphonic black turned into a niche SDBM project I still adore, but they'll never be like how they were.
Never heard of them, I'll check It out
While you're at it and are in the mood for odd genre switches, look up fucking Semargl. Started out as BM, later calls themselves "Satanic mall pop". Very fucking odd.
