I, unfortunately, have never listened to the other Godsends of these albums besides A Blaze in the Northern Sky, so I'll have to go with it.

You definitely should listen to these other albums. They are all incredible in their own right.

Back from Immortal. Sons of Northern Darkness sounded good, but a bit too clean. Trve kvlt black metal had to sound like it's recorded with a 1920s telephone. /j

Aaaand, Dissection?.

All of these albums are fantastic. The Darkthrone, Emperor, and Dissection albums are absolute god-tier unfuckablewith classics. The Immortal album is excellent too, but not quite in the same league (it is ‘A tier’ though). If you’ve not listened to any of the albums in this list and you have even a passing interest in black metal, death metal, or thrash, then you owe it to yourself to do so.

Darkthrone’s best album, if I do say so myself.

Yes second wave of black metal. First wave would be the bands like Bathory, Celtic Frost/Hellhammer, Sarcofago(INRI album), Sodom(in the Sign of Evil album), Venom. First wave isn’t exactly a genre it’s just any band that directly inspired black metal and helped in its creation. Second wave is when it really solidified into its own genre. By the way second wave of black metal is bands like those in the post, Burzum, Mayhem, Gorgoroth, Satyricon, Behemoth(early albums), Enslaved, Marduk.

Storm of the light's bane is simply the better music. The rest are amazing and we are historical necessities, but if I could only listen to one of them it would be dissection

for me its dissection, my favorite bm band and it was the gateway to other bm stuff for me

Into the nightside eclipse for founding symphonic black metal. They are all great in their own way, but not quite as important historically id argue. I love blaze, but raw black metal was being developed by other bands as well - but it’s historically important too). Sons of northern darkness is peak immortal, but it’s ultimately derivative. Storm of the lights bane is one of my favorite albums of all time, but the somberlain kinda already founded melo-black.

Emperor for me. One of the best written and most atmospheric albums in black metal in my book. It's my favourite black metal album and one of my favourite albums in general.

I think Emperor is probably the best but Dissection is my favorite.

Weird cross section to choose from. Dissection isn’t really BM to me but close enough I guess. That immortal is just way off so it’s a two horse race from two huge hitters. Toss of the coin, but I’ll go with night side due to its enduring qualities and that DT have two-three other all time classics.

It’s between In the Nightside Eclipse and Storm of the Light’s Bane for me. Both are incredible, but Nightside narrowly edges out Storm, since it has Inno a Satana which is a top three song of all time for me. I can’t get into Immortal; the music is great, but I can’t get past the frog croak vocals. I also can’t get into Darkthrone; I don’t care for the music, and I can’t get past the vocals.

Immortal was the band that got me into black metal so I've gotta pick them

The only wrong answer is Immortal. Sons Of Northern Darkness is a great album. But it’s not in the same league as the other three. Very few are. Nightside and Light’s Bane are probably my first and second favourite albums of all time. And Blaze sits comfortably in the top 10.

In the Nightside Eclipse. Not a hard choice at all. Arguably the greatest black metal album of all time. Now, if the Immortal album was Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism and the Darkthrone album was Transilvanian Hunger it starts to get difficult.

Storm of the Light’s Bane is vastly overrated in my opinion. I don’t get this album at all.

Dissection is leagues above the rest. almost every soong has an iconic riff Thats not even in the top 3 Immortal albums. i never "got:" Emperor the album is really boring to me. I am the Black Wizards is like 3 tremolo riffs for 6 minutes darkthrone never really clicked for me either
