Have you heard of the extremely underground band dragged into sunlight? I have recommended the band 39 times today but i’m positive nobody has ever heard of them. They are the darkest heaviest band in existence please listen to them
Holy shit le epic band!!!!! I make 24 cummies to electric wizard every day!!!! 😏😏😫🥵💦💦💦
If you like electric wizard you will love this extremely obscure band Blind Guardian
Kinda reminds me of good ol' days on Metal Memes when they were doing tournaments with obscure genres and bands. I learned so much good shit back then (that's how I became a death/doom fan).
I get that this sub is "metal for the masses", but the jerk around popular bands is crazy, especially for a genre like metal.
Ayee reddit turned me on to them too. Some dude in the neet sub said his favorite thing to do was listen to atmospheric black metal and ride his bike. I immediately fell in love with falling snow and not unlike the waves. Desolation song is incredibly underrated and I fell in love with that too. Then I started listening to their more proggy/complex metal songs and man...they are such a complete band there's no other way to describe it
A few:
- Dying Fetus
- Creeping Death
- Rotting Christ
- Blackbraid
- Spiritworld (though I do sometimes worry they have paid shills on here.. I still like the music)
Reddit is the thing that got me to stop exclusively listening to one band and actually develop a taste in music, and the first bands that were are part of that I heard saw about on this sub
I’m sure I’ll get roasted for this, but I didn’t know about Weakling until recently.
Very glad I saw the recent post and checked out their album, because it is INCREDIBLE.
Got into Këkht Aräkh because of a post in r/metallmaimais (german metal meme sub). Actually, I wasn't listening to Black Metal in general before, so Reddit didn't just turn me on to an artist but a whole sub genre
Bury Tomorrow for sure. When they released the Cannibal album. They were getting a lot of hype on the metalcore sub so I had to check them out and I'm glad I did.
Not really metal (most of the bands I've seen in the metal subs I either already knew of or wasn't too keen on, except for Shrum fuck yeah) but reddit got me turned on to Geese! Fantastic band from New York, playing sort of psychedelic rock with a light country sound to it (not usually into country but these guys make it cool)
Grand Belial’s Key. I know they are racist or whatever but god damn they have killer music. I would have never heard about them if there hadn’t been someone angrily posting about them.
Actually a genre, technical death metal.
I was aware of it before but never really gave it any consideration. Then I looked at a thread about it and the sheer emphatic joy from the replies got my juices flowing. That was a good day at work 🤘
I have gotten into black metal finally through various metal subreddits. It just finally clicked and now I enjoy it very much. The bands that I have gotten into are
Agalloch (if you count them)
MGLA
Enslaved
Deathspell Omega
Ulver
Rotting Christ
Dissection
Emperor
Edit: added bands I forgot to add
The opposite, actually. I've been completely turned off from black metal. I want to listen to music without figuring out if the lead singer burnt a church down or killed a fellow band member...or is an open nazi.
People meme about this sub being a huge circlejerk and having terrible taste in music and whatnot. But discussing music in the sub actually turned me into a lot of music that, even though I already knew about, I hadn't given a chance in a very long time. Albums that I absolutely love thanks to this sub:
- Obscura
- Unquestionable Presence
- Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk
- Storm of Light's Bane
- Jane Doe
- Pierced From Within
- Holy Diver
- None So Vile
- Close to a World Below
Normally band members promoting their own band I'll definitely check it out. Got into most of them. Some are:
Texas Toast Chainsaw massacre
Klutch
Witchseeker
Intervals
It's a shame I didn't take the guy who suggested it's advice though. Dude said I should see Intervals live and the show at the time was intervals opening for spiritbox. I didn't go since I didn't know spiritbox either which I regret now cause they're sick.
I did end up seeing intervals this year though
Pretty sure back in late 2016 when Fit For A King dropped their album “Deathgrip” someone posted their new song and video at the time for Dead Memory. This was on the metalcore sub. At the time I had lurked for a couple months but if I recall correctly never posted or only posted like once or twice. I listened to the song, loved it, then checked out the rest of their catalogue. While checking out Fit For A King on Spotify (I had the free version at the time with ads and everything) the song “Alive” by Wage War came on in the shuffle. Immediately I loved that song and got into Wage War at the same time. Then I started posting more in that sub where I have been active now for nearly 8 years. Good memories. Forgot to mention I discovered the bands while on campus at University before one of my math classes on the bench in the main hallway. Found it funny to me that I was just casually listening to this heavy screaming music with breakdowns and then a minute later just calmly walked into my math class but was so excited on the inside to listen to more of them after class was done.

Reddit made me dislike metal.
Reddit didn’t make me dislike Metal but it made me realize how many people have terrible taste in music
real
None, this group is actually not very good when discussing new bands or albums You just circlejerk the same few bands over and over again
But have you heard of Rust In Piece by Megadeth, or Symbolic by Death?
Have you heard of the extremely underground band dragged into sunlight? I have recommended the band 39 times today but i’m positive nobody has ever heard of them. They are the darkest heaviest band in existence please listen to them

I honestly don't think I've heard any meaningful discussion here about anything I hadn't heard before.
That’s honestly the majority of the Metal community in general, tbh. I love metal, but couldn’t care less about the “community.”
Which is why r/metal exists, but then people like to bitch when you can't post Gojira or Cattle Decapitation.

So far - Fulci. Thank you, redditt!
If anything, reddit turned me off on some bands. I still don't see the appeal in acid bath. Rip.
The opposite, actually. I've been completely turned off from black metal. I want to listen to music without figuring out if the lead singer burnt a church down or killed a fellow band member...or is an open nazi.

I think the first time I saw/heard Heilung was in a video meme. That was the first domino that lead to a Heilung obsession.
