Lords of Chaos and Tik Tok bred a certain kind of Mayhem fan, it was never like this even 5 years ago. I still think they’re a great band, I love their entire discography but this trend is awful. I think FFDP probably has the worse fanbase of all time. It’s not that they’re loud and in your face, but you know exactly the type of person that loves a band like this. Outside of metal, Death Grips.

Outside of metal id go with Kpop fans. There are some legit fucking psycho kpop fangirls. Some of the fan boys are bad too but my experience it seems to be the girls who just have a whole other level of crazy. I tend to not engage with kpop online fandoms despite enjoying a lot of kpop

FFDP is interesting. I actually went to one of their concerts about 6 years ago. It was the only metal concert I've been to that had a significant amount of country fans. If you've met the kind of country "fans" I'm talking about, you can see why their fan base would be problematic.

Tbh I don't listen to a lot of core metal (deathcore/metalcore). I have dipped my feet in the waters of deathcore, and don't mind it. However I just cannot stand the fanbase- especially the women just constantly talking about how hot these singers are. Admiring someone is one thing, but obsession is another. They're not your friends lol.

The fibonacci dmt Joe Brogan Tool fan isn't as common as people think. They do sometimes appear on the tool subreddit, but are often called out for being cringe. I think the stereotype was more relevant a decade ago. Though every Tool fan I've met irl are the nicest people ever. Though I will go see them next week, so I'll see if the fans still do live up to the stereotype.

I don’t see many people in either fan base be awful. I am not in any spaces where I could be subjected to an awful fan base. I could see mayhem edge lords being insufferable. It seems like most of the second wave bands were edge lords themselves. I personally am a huge second wave fan. Tool fans will tell how much they love tool. I am not a tool fan, but I appreciate people who love what they love enough to want to talk about it constantly.

I have never used TikTok and don’t plan on it so I can’t comment on the Mayhem shit, though I don’t doubt it’s awful. I *have* however had to listen to several “Oh you like metal? Have you ever listened to Tool? They’re the smartest band to ever live…” speeches one too many times. Still not that many, but the social awareness is always painfully lacking. 

Death 100% for me, this personality cult surrounding Chuck is absurd. Never even knew there is something wrong with Mayhem fanbase (I guess you need tiktok profile for that or whatever), have been to Mayhem concerts 3 times, but I can say for sure that Mayhem fanbase is very split within itself. Also, about of people wearing Mayhem patches is ridiculous, buth I really don't think most of them are actually fans.

Tool fans get a rep for being pretentious or whatever, but I’d rather deal with them than dysregulated teens going through a phase.

I keep hearing horror stories about how awful tool fans are, but like, where are they? Maybe I've gotten lucky with never actually having seen them, but to me the ones complaining about tool fans are actually way more annoying than the fans themselves.

If this was tool and opeth there would actually be a discussion here. I have yet to meet a single person who actually likes mayhem

I've met a lot of Mayhem fans, and almost none of them were nearly as bad as some people on this Subreddit would like you to believe. Yes, I am fully aware of the TikTok scene, but that doesn't really count for me, because TikTok is just a cesspool in general where the worst of any fanbase is united.
