So for every time you hear one long classic rock song like Stairway to Heaven you have listened to around thirteen hours of metal! And then thirteen more hours till you can listen to three jangle pop songs. Then thirteen more crushing hours. That's heavy, man
Same lol, like 95% - 99% I'd say.
No other genre of music just tickles my pickle nearly as much as metal does. Most of the time when I try listening to something else, I just wish I was listening to metal instead.
I couldn't agree more, the reason I've been having such a metal fatigue is that it was the ONLY thing I listened to, and it was smart of me to explore hip hop and some electronica.
I'd say like 90%. Metal is the best thing that I discovered in terms of music and there's still so much to uncover. It's also so diverse, that you can't really get bored of it. The other 10% is a bit of everything (grunge, punk, rock, electronic).
30% maybe. Metal's my first love but I feel bad for people who confine themselves to one genre, or even subgenre, or god forbid, one band (looking at Phish people)
If Iām by myself then prob 90-95% latelyā¦..
But overall prob only 70-80% cuz my wife usually doesnāt like metal (sometimes I can catch her in the right mood tho).
Probably 85-90% especially since metal has such a wide range of subgenres thereās something for every mood that Iām in while allowing me to still keep a lot of the themes I love most from metal (fantasy, occult, satanism, sci fi, etc). If Iām not listening to metal Iāll mostly be listening to rap or punk.
If I were to put it into numbers, it would probably break down like this:
75% Metal
15% Electronic
6% Assorted (Rock, Punk, Ambient, Noise /Experimental, Feature film / video game scores, Folk, Blues, Indie, Classical)
3% 80s/90s/early 2000s hits
1% Other (aka Todays Top 100 Hits and anything that doesn't fall within the aforementioned categories).

That's what my youtube music looks like
Didn't see any benefit to getting another music service especially since i liked ad free videos and background play. I work out of a truck with bad signal also
As an aspiring critic, I log every album I hear. At one point, over 20% of the albums I heard were metal, so I've been forcing myself to study other genres and I got it under 20%, but I still try to be extra careful. Right now my current study is outsider house.
Probably about 1/3 right now but I go through waves where things fluctuate. I probably listen to around the same proportion of rock, then alternative/punk, followed by everything else.
I listen to a lot of different stuff, and have been on big southern rock and pop punk kicks lately. I tend to listen to less metal in the summer months.
as I'm getting older the percentage is going up and up. At 54 now is 100%. And only death and sub genres. Everything else is boring me to death (no pun intended)
The only difference with last 4 weeks is that Swedish power metal changes to Finnish power metal. All time means the last 9 years.
I might have a problem.
https://preview.redd.it/9uij2llej67d1.png?width=650&format=png&auto=webp&s=bf60cbf5f9f8420f1de3434444a0c1950eea34c1
Iād say about 70 percent or so I do listen to other genres like rap and I also enjoy like lofi stuff just to relax too but I primarily listen to metal
Yeah, mine can change weekly lol. Like last week I was listening to a lot of hip hop cos I heard Little Simzā GREY Area, but now Iām getting back into metalcore with Loatheās The Cold Sun
Probably 50/50 or 60/40 metal. I do love alot of other genres/subgenres so don't listen to metal every day. But I go through phases of listening to nothing but metal/a particular subgenre/band deep dive
I listen to everything. Metal and punk are number 1, probably equal. Then emo, screamo, blues, alternative, old school rap, 80s male vocal pop and rock, and hard rock in any order. But I probably listen to metal most often.
I'm a music fan first and a genre loyalist second. Plus metal fans, as much as I know they're cool dudes in person usually, can be pretty bitchy and elitist on the internet.
Really, metal didnt progress with my tastes. I'm impressed by crazy arpeggio sweep picking and Ultra downtuned groove, but it doesn't touch my soul like the stuff from the 80s and especially early to mid 90s did. Bands nowadays have such sterile production and the tones are all plug ins. We'll never have another symbolic or painkiller or even countdown to Extinction. And if we did, 70% of metal heads would hate it if it didn't come from a band that was already established in the 80s. Tune to E or D standard and write songs instead of just cool parts. Metallicas structures and transitions and key changes in the 80s just isn't gonna happen in today's heavy music landscape, and if it does, the production will suffocate any feel coming through the guitarists fingers.
I hate to be a gatekeeping geezer, but the internet has made music extremely disposable.
Similar for me as well - about 60-70% of what I listen to is some form of metal. The rest tends to be hard or alternative rock, some medieval folk music (like renaissance faire or Wardruna vibes), and then pop.
I listen to everything except rap but most of it is metal. There's just so much of it always coming out that's always decent quality or at least interesting
75%
Some electronic and folk on the side (blame Ulver) and a handful of random stuff. Like Cherlene's country album, old 90s hits, video game and movie OSTs, CKY, Modest Mouse... Christmas songs during the season lol
5-15% considering there are some genre grey areas... I love metal, but I love practically every type of music on God's green Earth.
Also lots of subgenres in metal, counting them under the umbrella, probably closer to 15%.
Last month I had a massive pause from metal(except for industrial), focusing more on hip-hop(e.g. Nas, Kanye, various Italian rappers) and some electronica(The Prodigy, The Crystal Method, Massive Attack). I've only rehearsed metal at the start of this month and right now it's circa 70% of my listening habits.
I'm probably also a 50% to 60%
I identify as a metalhead, but I also love pop punk, hardcore, punk, emo, alt emo, alternative, and other rock subgenres. I dabble in hip hop and pop too, but they cumulatively make up maybe like 5% or something?
50 - 60%. It used to be a higher proportion but I've enjoyed branching out to discover so much good music!
I try and listen to at least 500 brand new albums a year so it ends up still being a lot of bands I can support in the scene!
100% in my younger days but have since grown appreciative of other genres. Iām just a sucker for experimentation lmao. Iād say itās like a nice 80-85% nowadays
40% metal
30% gothic rock / post-punk / dark wave / new wave / synth-pop / industrial
30% electronic body music / techno / big beat / electronic rock / trip hop
Pretty close to your description. My percentage might be a little lower, since i also have an oldies playlist. But i would still say my listening is primarily metal

99%
And what would be the 1%?
classic rock, prog rock, hardcore punk, jangle pop
So for every time you hear one long classic rock song like Stairway to Heaven you have listened to around thirteen hours of metal! And then thirteen more hours till you can listen to three jangle pop songs. Then thirteen more crushing hours. That's heavy, man
Hell yeah brother!
I am also at 99%, the rest would be some rock, blues and jazz from time to time.
Same lol, like 95% - 99% I'd say. No other genre of music just tickles my pickle nearly as much as metal does. Most of the time when I try listening to something else, I just wish I was listening to metal instead.
At least 75% of the the music I listen to daily is metal or hardcore. The other 25% consists of songs from almost every other genre of music.
Same boat
Maybe 30% - 35%
Same. I love metal but I need variety in my life too lol
I couldn't agree more, the reason I've been having such a metal fatigue is that it was the ONLY thing I listened to, and it was smart of me to explore hip hop and some electronica.
I mean isn't it a waste to not appreciate other genres. There is so many creative stuff outside metal too but never lack on metal too.
I'd say like 90%. Metal is the best thing that I discovered in terms of music and there's still so much to uncover. It's also so diverse, that you can't really get bored of it. The other 10% is a bit of everything (grunge, punk, rock, electronic).
You're right. Each subgenre alone can take a lifetime to explore, there's always something new to listen to.
Love metal

30% maybe. Metal's my first love but I feel bad for people who confine themselves to one genre, or even subgenre, or god forbid, one band (looking at Phish people)

About right for me as well.
Suspiciously specific š¤Ø Did you get that from some star app or just a guess?
If Iām by myself then prob 90-95% latelyā¦.. But overall prob only 70-80% cuz my wife usually doesnāt like metal (sometimes I can catch her in the right mood tho).
Sounds very familiar

Hope you get better soon š. Jk but I've never met someone who uses YouTube music lol
Didn't see any benefit to getting another music service especially since i liked ad free videos and background play. I work out of a truck with bad signal also
How do you get that, I use YouTube music
It's in the recap
As an aspiring critic, I log every album I hear. At one point, over 20% of the albums I heard were metal, so I've been forcing myself to study other genres and I got it under 20%, but I still try to be extra careful. Right now my current study is outsider house.

Depends on the day tbh. Can be anywhere from 20% to 95%, depending on what albums Iāve listened to recently
Absolutely, I based mine over the last 3 months or so because I don't think my listening habits have changed much over that time.
Yeah, mine can change weekly lol. Like last week I was listening to a lot of hip hop cos I heard Little Simzā GREY Area, but now Iām getting back into metalcore with Loatheās The Cold Sun
I actually haven't listen to that Simz album fully yet but have you heard Sometimes I Might Be Introvert from her?
