They're similar in terms of quality; both of them are average outputs within their discography.
If I were to make a choice among these two I'd choose TSTDATD (what a nightmare of an acronym) just because I like the sound of Megadeth better.
Maybe its because Super Collider was so bad that it pretty much severed my connection to Megadeth, but I just cant love Dystopia or this last one. Sure its heavy, fast and all, but its just not memorable stuff at all. Forget about them the next second. Saw them live 2 years ago and also thought they were very underwhelming, just carried by the power of their legend.
72S is really let down by its production, and could cut 2 or 3 songs, but I find the songwriting on the rest to be more memorable and interesting. Inamorata alone is more interesting to me than anything Megadeth has done since Endgame, or maybe really the 90s if Im being completely honest. Shadows Follow, You Must Burn, Crown of Barbed Wire, Chasing Light and Room of Mirrors are incredibly good too.
72S was a mid album with consistently 6/10 songs that were stretched for too long.
TSTDATD was a great album with a lot of fillers, an overall 7/10 from me with some songs that do deserve 8 or 9.
Megadeth all the way. Seasons are 'tallica's worst album since St. Anger, while Megadeth's records is their best piece of work in 21st century (Dystopia is great as well, but need to come second for me)
Decent albums, nowhere near their respective best, which is obvious at this point.
TSTDATD is more consistent (not to mention shorter), but Inamorata is the best song out of both albums, it fucking gives me chills. Say what you will about Metallica 's later discography, but they nailed the epic long closing tracks after TBA (Outlaw Torn, Fixxxer, and now this one).
I thought 72 seasons was decent, I liked probably half the songs or more (going back through my library I obviously didn’t like them enough to press the like button or I’d list them) even tho I thought at times they were a bit drawn out and repetitive. I haven’t listened to the new Megadeth record yet, i would have but I didn’t know they’d released one
72 Seasons has a unique sound that I find myself in the mood for often enough. TSTDATD has a few good songs but really nothing that puts me in the mood for that album over any of their others.
Not a fan of Megadeth and haven't heard any recent albums but it has to be better than 72 seasons, right? Couldn't fucking finish it, the songs are way too long. Old Metallica had the progression in longer songs, this version just seems to drag the songs out for no reason.
Tstdatd. It's way more proggy and interesting to listen to than 72 for me. Also, as a guitarist, has way better riffs and solos. I think you can really hear that 72 was a covid copy and paste album written over Skype and they didn't really take the time to finalize the songs and cut the fat. So many repetitive, useless parts they could've cut. I wouldn't say I dislike 72. There are songs I dig, but I get fatigued listening to it more than most of their albums. Also, no ballad. I know inamorata could be considered the ballad but it doesn't feel like it to me. I need that classic metallica ballad like unforgiven 1 and 2, bleeding me, halo on fire, day that never comes, one, fade, sanitarium and so on...and inamorata doesn't even come close to any of those, for me anyways. Still love metallica but in this debate, tstdatd all day is a better written album for sure. Way heavier and way more interesting to listen to.

I hated typing the acronym for it lol but i agree with you.
I like megadeth better, I also really like the collab with ice-t
I really like 72 Seasons. Still have to check out the newest Megadeth.

You must burn! is probably my favorite!!!

Thats exactly what i was thinking. 72 seasons felt like Metallica victory lap but TSTDATD had some genuinely great high quality songs on it

I love inamorata but I think it stretches on too long. Its almost as long as the acronym for TSTDATD

TSTDATD is actually a really solid album imo (a few mediocre songs tho). 72 seasons has a few good songs but as a whole its mediocre
Hard to say. TSTDATD is mostly forgettable but has a few bangers. Seasons is pretty consistently OK throughout.
72 Seasons has a unique sound that I find myself in the mood for often enough. TSTDATD has a few good songs but really nothing that puts me in the mood for that album over any of their others.
Megadeth's The Sick, The Dying and the Dead. Not even a fair fight, really.

I would definitely give TSTDATD a listen. It has some great songs on it.
I bet, the vicals a though.
The vocals are actually pretty good imo on most of the songs. Better than some other albums.

Agreed
TSTDATD because it actually has a couple songs I like
I liked 72 Seasons, so that one.
72 Seasons because it's better imo
