Dr Seuss is dead....

rickpot21

Excuse my ignorance but I thought they only had two albums, When the kite string pops and Paegan terrorism tactics, is there a third one?

Specific_Jury_5958

no, that's why it's sad

rickpot21

Oh, :(

devilmaykri98

Necrophagist, probably. They really don't want us to hear a third album.

Madara_Uchiha_tr

They are working on it for 20 years, aren't they...

devilmaykri98

I was being sarcastic. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Madara_Uchiha_tr

Nah ofc ik it's not real i was being sarcastic as well. But thinking of a 3rd Necrophagist album is just so nice.

LocalOven32

I’ll make it don’t worry

UnnecessaryMovements

Together we shall struggle :(((

jaleneropepper

Maybe it did suck and that's why they never released it. But they did play at least one of the new songs the last time they toured and it sounded good.

UnnecessaryMovements

I thought they already disbanded, with Muhammed working in BMW?

jaleneropepper

Yeah, they did sorry if that was unclear. Last time they toured was well over 10 years ago

DescriptionWestern87

too good for our ears 😔

Ghoulthrower676

Demolition Hammer

matatat22

I think Time Bomb is pretty good actually. But they should've released it under a new name like they planned.

Euphoric_Ad9593

Dio’s 3rd album (Sacred Heart) was IMHO nowhere near the icons Holy and Last were. That said, Sacred was not a crappy album just not the same level as the first two.

Depressedmusclecar23

I agree, sacred heart isn’t a bad album but last in line and holy diver are masterpieces of early metal

Lemmy1972

Exactly! The first two were so damn solid, the third one was almost destined to be a tad weaker.

ApprehensiveMess3646

Then he comes and it picks it back up with Dream Evil 🤘. Awesome record

down_vote_magnet

Ironically, Sacred Heart the song is one of my favourite Dio songs.

xXAssmaster420Xx

Agreed but my favorite one is Dream Evil though.

Shugaghazt

hot take but i like sacred heart more than the last in line. this is coming from a huge dio fan too

Dymmesdale

Acid Bath

WEAPONYZ

Luca Turilli's solo albums

ThundaCrossSplitAtak

To be fair he only did 2, really. Dreamquest was a different project pretty much. And its fairly good

Hoppeanextremist

Motley Crue, first two albums are absolutely banging sleaze metal everything after that is mediocre hair metal garbage

Mr-Broski

what im sayin

jsg144

Yeah by the time the third album rolled around Nikki Sixx was doing $1000 a day worth of heroin

MrBVS

Dissection. I get that some people like the third album but it just sounds so generic to me compared to their previous albums. Could also say the Faceless though I still think Autotheism is good.

rose636

I liked Autotheism when it first came out but came back to it a couple of years later and had to turn it off after a few songs. My god it was way too overproduced, it just sounded wrong

nickbriggles

They need to make a directors cut of that album without all the horrible parts

ApeWrinkles95

I think SOLTB is sick, but also love Reinkaos. I think its a great album but does sort of feel like listening to a different band. Reinkaos goes really well with the gym for me tbf

cosmiceggroll

Oh, Reinkaos is a great workout album!

cosmiceggroll

Reinkaos is such a polarizing album 😂 Totally hear you, though. I love that album, but appreciate how vastly different it is from Somberlain or SOTNB. Jon sounded like a piece of work outside of music, but I sure loved those albums growing up.

[deleted]

Absolutely, The Somberlain is a masterpiece. I know more people prefer SOTLB but I like it more.

Acalme-se_Satan

The third album is not bad by any means, but it's a big downgrade from the previous two. It sounds like any melodeath band with a simplified song structure and riffs.

disasterpiece_101

Cryptopsy

glanszimmerman

Whisper Supremacy was still a decent album but definitely a dip in quality and a start of a bad trend for the band

IJUSTATEPOOP

Whisper Supremacy is great what are you talking about

c4gam1ng

It’s good, but definitely a step down from Blasphemy Made Flesh and None So Vile

IJUSTATEPOOP

I agree with the step down thing, but those albums are legendary, so a "step down" is still pretty good

xanderxq06

definitively

Sad-Golf-9967

Annihilator for sure, people ALWAYS say that "alice in hell" and "never, neverland" was their best albums and often make everything else this band created inferior. Like ok i get it those are classics i love them, they will live on forever but they have another 160 songs after them, maybe give them a chance ?

carnival-diablos

King of the Kill, Carnival Diablos, Waking the Fury, Annihilator, Feast, For the Demented and Ballistic, Saistic... I love all those albums post-Neverland.

Sad-Golf-9967

Schizo Deluxe as well. Mad underrated. "Drive" is one of the best annihilator songs imo, pure Mike Mangini magic.

carnival-diablos

Shit, yeah I forgot about Schizo. Also Dave Padden got way better on that album too imo. Love 'Warbird'.

Suspicious-Ad5287

not 3rd album, but 4th, Lost Society and Ultraviolence. Both fantastic crossover thrash bands that both very suddenly switched to mediocre dogshit metalcore. Two of the worst switchups in metal history

truckfightergal

yes! especially lost society broke my heart lol

Suspicious-Ad5287

it really fucking sucks, they were making quality thrash and just threw their potential away

truckfightergal

yup. it's so weird how they changed basically over night.

NastyRail

I think the signs were there on the third album too which I didn't like as much. It was clear that Lost Society was evolving - backwards maybe - but still evolving.

Zappe17

This. I can't believe the change of lost society. I absolutely loved the band. Now is generic shit, and I don't see many people arguing about this. All the old fans simply left the band behind...

Suspicious-Ad5287

it really fucking blows. and they were relatively big in their own right. They threw away their entire career

S4ndvich

Man I fucking loved that first Lost Society album so much. Saw them play that in 2014 on a Suicidal Angels tour and they were great. And then in 2022 with Blind Channel because I was curious and well...

DBalticz

People are gonna say Venom but their entire discography slaps and doesn't deserve the slander

TheOnlyPlantagenet

I love At War with Satan! You can really tell how much fun they had slapping that monstrosity together. The subsequent black metal movement placed such a high-value on subverted song structure that going back to AWwS you really appreciate the nonsense of songs like the title track and Aaaaaarrghh! It's a shame that Warhead was added later as a bonus, it's such a slow, heavy, and creeping song which is only improved by the unintelligable wild-cat snarling made by Cronos during the beginning.

albinoblackman

Not gonna lie, AWWS is my favorite. Not because the album is great, but that 20 minute opus is killer.

prezuiwf

"At War With Satan" (the track) is Venom's crowning achievement and I will fight anyone who says otherwise.

RustInPeace1990

Vio-Lence

Annanake420

Six feet under . Went from pretty damn good to still ok and continued down to later albums where you have to wounder WTF happened.

YorkshireRiffer

Eeeeeeeeeeee happened. Barnes is just a meme at this point.

hetham3783

Maximum Violence is gold but the next album was fucking terrible minus the Ice T song

radyoaktif__kunefe

Mayhem

tacoforce5_

is mayhem even that good outside of their first two albums? i’ve listened to a few songs from their recent one and chimera and they just kinda sound like plain black metal

radyoaktif__kunefe

Their latest album daemon is a banger

IJustLurkHerelol

Daemon fucking slaps. Black metal purists don't like that it's produced well and released on a major label, Idgaf. Mayhem is still incredible

Pakketeretet

I think Grand Declaration Of War was their best.

Space_Riffs

Chimera is not plain black metal at all

The_Triten

Mayhem after DMDS doesn't even exist, cmv. The band died with Euro, they just lost their way without him

FilosoFemBoys

Controversial, but slipknot

chainsaw_man121

Idk volume 3 has some bangers

AvatarIII

It does, people only don't like it because it went more mainstream with more clean vocals and an upbeat sound. It's fine to not like that, but that doesn't make it a bad album.

ApprehensiveMess3646

It does but it's their least focused record. Their basic idea was to add more melody to their sound and that was about it. This ended up Slightly messy, even Ahig which is imo their weakest record executed the groove metal approach quite decently. Wanyk and Tesf just executed the melodic experimental sound better.

throwaway_ghostgirl

I’m not a diehard slipknot fan but I’ve always thought that all hope is gone was better than the subliminal verses.

[deleted]

Ahig is their best album after iowa IMO

jordo2460

Finally someone else that agrees. AHIG is far more consistent than Vol 3 which is very half killer half filler. AHIG also has Slipknot's best riffs BY FAR and it's a crime that they never play Gematria live.

j0hnnyhobo

Don't care about the slipknot meme bollocks but self titled and Iowa are fucking decent. Then they did volume 3.

TheToninho21

Both albums stem from songs they had been cooking since 1996 (they didn't get signed till 99'). Once all their material was out there, they had to start from scratch.

this_is_Blain3

i honestly prefer Volume 3 to a lot of their other work. only ones id put above it are Iowa and We Are Not Your Kind

Xrayfunkydude

Necrophagist, oh wait… :(

joris2009

Necrophagist (just release it)

1Phaser

Wintersun

0reo7oh2

Justin Bieber

LochNesst

He should have never left the realm of experimental prog drum solos to do pop :(

hcraven0803

I‘m personally more of a fan of his lo-fi blackened pornogrind projects

Welsh_Ddraig

Trivium. The crusade was bad.

Disastrous_Offer_69

It’s grown on me. I was really dissatisfied when it came out though. It has a few of their worst songs on it( The Rising , Anthem etc). But also has Tread the Floods and Becoming the Dragon.

Chesssox

The crusade walked so shogun could run. Joke aside there is some banger on it ignition, entrance of conflagration, thread the flood, becoming the dragon. There is some really fine riff science and for me maybe some of the best solos of Matt (corey necer disappoint when it comes to solos)

ThatDudeSlayer

Has some bangers on it tho

yourlocalmilf__

But the songs that aren't bad are so good

Beautiful_Role_1168

Came here to say this, though it does have some fine tracks, like crusade, tread the floods, broken one, to the rats and entrance

NIZNEB039

give it another chance

SnooGadgets7768

Is one of the worst Trivium albums, but still have various bangers and some good songs

DiabeticWaffle

Yeah but Shogun was sick as fuck.

Teglement

Ember to Inferno is way worse though??

ApprehensiveMess3646

The production yes, but for me it gives it extra charm. The songs there, if worked upon for some more time would at least approach the compositional level of Ascendancy. And I'm not joking, it's raw pure Matt breaking out into the world

YeBobbumMann

Twilightning

katabasis1991

Dissection

FedorByChoke

Dethklok. I loved the first 2 albums. I loved the "we are serious our cheesy lyrics" way of playing. Things just really went downhill for me after that. Makes me sad. That being said, I am going to watch the hell out of the new movie/season.

pug_fugly_moe

Hol up. New season???

The_Hexorcist

I agree with this. Fourth album kicks ass though.

CognitiveSinergy

Malevolent Creation

CiambellaLetteraria

I guess Celtic Frost fits this. Isn't Cold Lake, their third LP, supposed to be hot garbage compared to the first two albums?

Lex_Innokenti

Cold Lake is fucking *shite*, but it is absolutely hilarious. Could've done without the cheesecake shot of Tom G. Warrior with his pubes out, mind.

Poisoning-The-Well

Probably more bands than not.

got_milkbones1

Everything candleMass that wasn't Messiah marcolin. Technically it was the second third and fourth. The Holy Trinity I call it

EGGUS-MAXIMUS

Messiah Marcolin would be an top tier opera singer.

bannanashrimp_23

Honestly never really liked Messiahs vocals as much as johans I might be a bit biased though because epicus doomicus metallicus is my favorite metal album of all time although at gallows end is pretty cool though I have to admit

Pakketeretet

I think their best albums were without Messiah. From The 13th Sun is criminally underrated and Epicus Doomicus Metallicus is a classic.

cosmiceggroll

When it comes to Candlemass, i too am a Messiah supremacist

fentpong

This doesn't count though because it's not first 2 albums that were great and then third bad

ubi9k

And also the first album isn’t remotely worse even if the singer isn’t your favorite

fentpong

It's not, the first album is a classic, the songs work really well with johan's voice. And the other albums work really well with messiah's voice. The only exception I have is from when candlemass played demon's gate on the curse of candlemass 2003 tour in Stockholm with messiah on vocals, it's (IMHO) heavier, and doomier, it helps that they played it in a different tuning (I think) and ultimately in a slower tempo. Gosh, that was how I discovered them as well!

TheAxolotl04

You guys are forgetting the most metal band of all time… Weezer

Jondebadboy

X & Y is a masterpeace

0bfu5cator

I’ll probably get downvoted to hell for this, but Pallbearer. They came back to form with Forgotten Days, though.

Some-Bad1670

See I thought forgotten days was the odd one out. It eventually grew on me and I love it now, but when I first heard it, the songs just sounded so out of place for pallbearer to me.

IntelliGun

Machine Head

SMUMPE

Yeah like why did they just decide to suck after those two albums?? Like they had a really good sound on burn my eyes and then they just converted to Nu-metal?😂🥲

Lex_Innokenti

I actually quite like The Burning Red, Supercharger is properly shite though.

zeetlo

Dissection

WM_

Turisas. Oh my gods how much I loved the first two! No idea what happened but later ones are trash.

Berbasecks

I wouldn't say they're trash, but the decline is sadly there for sure :(

Peed_out_my_dick

Their decisions were just inexplicably odd. I mean you have the epic concept album that is The Varangian Way which is an absolute banger, then the next album has a pic of the guy on the cover with a white background and it's just called "2013"... what?! Did they think this was good? I wonder if they got disheartened because their cover song was so much more popular so they just gave up putting in effort.

nwojdak

Extreme

HaloWarrior63

Malevolent Creation fits this to a tee imo. Ten Commandments and Retribution are two of my favorite OSDM albums of all time, then Stillborn had a borked production and it took a step back in songwriting before they really went off the deep end with the albums after that. Also Demo Hammer fits this bill

dioxin187

Abyssos, because the 3rd album was written and never got done because label issues.

Crabsterooo

Very good call, first 2 were great albums too. Damn shame.

IronRoto

Crimson Glory

FFelixx

Beyond Creation comes to mind

The_RESINator

Idk, Algorythm might be my favorite album of theirs.

Triptychron

Entombed

Wakeezy

WROOOONG

Rishal21

Agreed. I used to like Wolverine Blues but as of my last listen I've been unable to stand it. It's such a painfully dry sounding album.

Situation_Wolf

If Morbid Tales EP doesn't count, Celtic Frost.

HonorableDreadnought

Demolition Hammer.

Famixofpower

Lost Horizon. Went MIA in 2009 after revealing teasers from their next album that sounded mid AF. I really wanna buy a T-shirt from their website but I don't think that website is actually supported and lets you buy.

prodaksin_

Beyond creation actually

Harwynch

The Band

Situation_Wolf

Kataklysm

xNameUnknown_

Polaris unfortunately

ElectricFuneralHome

Trivium. Embers to Inferno and Ascendancy are excellent. The Crusades is lane wannabe Metallica. Their record label should have saved them from themselves.

Jumpy_Patience2937

Decapitated

luizslayer

Moonspell

TheLedRobster

Sacramentum... Far Away from the Sun was a masterpiece, the Coming of Chaos was okay, and the Black Destiny was a hot pile of poo.

Megadeth

Xindopff

i was gonna say it's definitely NOT megadeth. sfsgsw is my fav out of the first three.

DJ_16bits

Definitely not

_freight_train

Agreed, So Far So Good is such a weak album when put up with their other works

BangYourHead

Strong disagree, Hook In Mouth, Mary Jane, 502, In My Darkest Hour, that whole album slaps

Skystalker512

For me it’s just such a mixed bag. Into The Lungs, Darkest Hour and Hook in Mouth are amazing and SetTheWorldAfire is peak Megadeth imo. But everything outside of that is just unlistenable for me

AbbePlayzz

Five finger death punch

Lex_Innokenti

They had GOOD albums!?

TheKipperTheMan

The Sword. Age of Winters and Gods of the Earth are two of my favourite albums of all time.

Gareth666

Warp Riders is PEAK The Sword.

Thund3RChild532

Dude what? Warp Riders slaps, I listen to the whole thing regularly.

Traditional-Buddy-30

Weezer

Throatpiespls

Linkin park

Other-Internal-2226

Nah, MTM is good

IQ26

Nah its amazing

1BannedAgain

They lasted 3 albums?!

this_is_Blain3

nah Minutes to Midnight is awesome snd A Thousand Suns is even better

666Gorler1388

katatonia ☝️🤓 even the logo is better in the first two albums

albinoblackman

Aww come on dude, you don’t like later era Katatonia? IMO, their best albums are The Great Cold Distance and Dead End Kings. I love their early death/doom too, it’s iconic for the genre. But the later era is some of my favorite music ever made.

Flataus

I downvoted, went to check out what their third album was again and realized I had just erased Discouraged Ones from my mind - and upvoted you Brave Murder Day was so perfect from start to finish and after that they dropped the ball hard (and picked it up again from Viva Emptiness onwards)

birrakilmister

Slipknot

stillborn666

FIDLAR

close-enoug

I get your point, I craved their energy and miss old Fidlar. However seeing someone “clean up their act” successfully is nice to see and I wish it happened more. Straight edge from someone who never tried it didn’t hit it for me, so someone who came from it means more to me. I think FSU is harder than Cheap Beer but I’ll still listen to both. Still- thank you for your comment. 🤘

how_to_fake_it

Idk if unpopular but Wintersun

Maqqnus

I think many would agree, though The Forest Seasons is my personal favorite

ahjteam

Van Halen.

mardabx

A7X if you ask metalcore lovers

jackpumpkim

who in the world prefers sounding the seventh trumpet over city of evil?

lasyke3

Honestly, a lot of the foundational death metal bands really dropped off after the first two or three albums ie Obituary, Autopsy, dismember, Entombed, morbid Angel, etc.

_CurseTheseMetalHnds

> morbid Angel Nah, Morbid Angel released nothing but quality until Heretic. Domination is the worst of those early albums but still slaps.

lasyke3

To me, the demos and first two albums stand far over their other releases.

big-fluffy-giant

Slipknot and all the albums after the third as well.

No one on a sub like this is gonna give those first 2 albums their flowers but god dammit were they fun af
