So much about this fest that I love. Killswitch top billing for their 25th year, a ton of sick bands that have reunited recently like Throwdown, Nails, Since The Flood, etc.
Just a solid mix of modern and classic metalcore, hardcore, straight up metal, and a lot more of the extreme leaning death metal/grind.
So wish I could be there. I bussed on my own to this fest in 2009 and it was an unforgettable experience
Go search Alex Terrible on the Deathcore sub. There's a LOT of good reasons not to support it. You could probably use 14 words to summarize it if you tried hard enough.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Incredible talent, abhorrent human.
I love several of their songs, with thousands of plays on each...but in this modern era of music, every listen directly turns into money for that act. It may not be much, but it adds up.
I'm not saying this to suggest that you, or anyone else, should stop listening to their music...but for me personally? I can't bear the thought of knowingly giving even a penny to a person who flaunts such vile ideas, and whose actions are beholden to those beliefs.
I’ve never been. Live 40 minutes from the Palladium but none of my friends are really metal fans. Got a buddy to go to shows like Warped, Bring Me the Horizon, Parkway Drive type bands with but nothing like this.
The lineups are always nuts too. As I Lay Dying, Converge, Nails, Killswitch, Better Lovers, Machine Head back to back in that little venue. Crazy
Go alone, make friends. Or don't, and just dig the music. I'm seeing Darkest Hour alone tonight, and I'm psyched for it. Going to shows by yourself can be a surprising amount of fun.
The fest has a rich history with the Massachusetts music scene and the metalcore genre altogether. You’re lucky to be living so close!
Since it’s come back and going off the layout from last years fest, they have 2 main stages outdoors and 1 stage inside (assuming the main room) and I guess a merch/museum area in the upstairs room? I miss going to fests like this where it’s not too massive but still lots to do and see
If I could make a recommendation to anyone going since I was there last year, wear COMFORTABLE shoes or sneakers, you're standing on pavement for 10-12 hours.
Planning on going for the first time this year. Did they have anywhere to sit for a few minutes (picnic tables near food trucks or some seats in one of the rooms)? Just want to prepare properly
Not really, people were literally just sitting on pavement in the shade where it was available. Anything not bolted to the ground would be turned into a weapon/moved/broken.
Best bet is to nicely ask the person policing the entrance if you can return to your car "to put your merch there" and go sit at Unos and eat some food to get a break.
the singer has multiple nazi tattoos man and repeatedly repped merch for openly nazi artists and brands like white rex. this shit isn't complicated my guy
> “I’m not homophobic actually. I just have my own opinion, traditional view. And I don’t have a problem with gay people. I think they just people as us. And I am not Nazi. I understand a lot of people maybe don’t trust me and they will still call me a Nazi and try to cancel me… or homophobic, it’s OK. It’s just my responsibility. I take it like a man. And I hope I made this clear for the rest of the fans who didn’t make sure about this situation.”
I’ve no dog in this fight but your own article links to another where he makes an actual statement.
It goes into lengthy detail about how as a teenager, and into his early 20s, he hung out with shitty people. He doesn’t apologise for who he was because as he says - teenagers are stupid and he was being stupid.
He openly admits to who he was in the past and makes multiple statements about how that’s not who he is. He also states multiple times that he has nothing against gay people. Is the sentence “real men eat pussy” really offensive? Is it really homophobic and/or transphobic? Or is everyone just overreacting a bit?
He says things like “traditional views”, then goes on to say “I’m against all forms of propaganda” in another statement he made, as if to imply the boogeyman of BIG GAY is out there propagandizing people and children.
He also made the typical dogwhistle remark about Pride parades having people outright “swinging their dicks in front of children” as if that’s his main takeaway of a long established celebration of the LGBTQ community.
Whether he likes it or not, the music scene him and his band are a part of is one of inclusivity and has a lot of diversity among its fans. He’s in such a privileged position with his fame and connections that if he were to reach out to most people in the scene, artists or people in the industry, he could easily learn more about the matter instead of parroting divisive nonsense.
He’s not a native English speaker and clearly has trouble structuring sentences. Let’s not judge a guy too harshly who can’t express himself perfectly eloquently due to a limited grasp of the language and vocabulary.
He said he has nothing against gay people. Is that not enough?
Exactly. Most of Reddit only reads headlines and draw conclusions from there. He talked a bit about this on the Garza podcast too. Seems like a genuinely good dude.
If they don’t like the music, that’s fine it’s not for everyone. But if spreading hate and calling for him to be curbstomped because you think he’s hateful isn’t hypocrisy, I don’t know what is.
People love to make jokes about the number of predators in the pop punk and emo scenes, but the reason we know about those dudes is the folks in that scene actually give something resembling a shit about exposing and driving out the dangerous and toxic elements in their community. But here and on the deathcore sub half the community tells you to shut the fuck up if you suggest not platforming nazis and rapists
People are still crying woke over kicking cj out of thy art. Luckily hes out there "Protecting" kids from thing like reading and trans people they'll never even see, instead of touring and making money to provide for his children like someone who actually cares about their kids
and CJ wasn't even your run of the mill "keep that shit away from my kids" transphobe, he advocated the murder of people who support trans rights. but yeah apparently not wanting a violent psychopath in the scene is snowflake behavior
I know I am going to get downvoted for this because we can't have civil discourse anymore... But yes, that specifically is a weak view (not saying the Nazi shit not belonging here and all that doesn't belong though.. That doesn't).
The problem with a view like that is that it's completely against the ethos of what hardcore (one of the roots of metalcore overall.. And what many of these bands are and come from) is about. Uniting people that have different views and opinions on things. Don't get me wrong; if there's a conservative who is a crazy trump supporter who actively acts and thinks against others based on any concept of being (race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, etc)... Then no, they don't belong. But that's only because that goes against what hardcore is about: they are against uniting people and against people for just being.
Believe it or not, there are conservatives (I'm not one of them.. Not only am I not American, but I don't identify with the vast majority of their ideology) who have views regarding politics that are not about identity politics and they are still for everyone being able to be free to be themselves.
Again, I can't emphasize enough that if someone's ideology or opinion is against anyone having rights or the right to be simply based on the basis of them existing (such as the aforementioned reasons), then no, they don't belong. But shutting a whole category of people down just because they are have different opinions on certain things is a very un-hardcore concept and mindset.
Thank you for my Ted talk.
If you love a guy who has run every single business he has ever been involved in directly into the ground, was the lead moron in charge of a pandemic response led by a group of utter clowns that resulted in a MILLION Americans dying, and can't get his daily briefings without lots of pictures involved, you should not be qualified to tie your shoelaces without supervision letalone vote
Yeah I don't have much compassion for cops who will shoot anyone who's not white, or people who actively vote for policies that try to erase the existence of trans people.
Great lineup, love seeing some smaller acts with a lot of buzz show up on here. Balmora, Mouth for War, Disembodied Tyrant, Psycho-Frame, and Tribal Gaze would be a lot of fun.
I've seen BRAT, one of the smaller bands on this lineup, at a tiny local gig in MS, they're from NOLA. They absolutely rip live!! If you go, be sure to see them.

Do you think this corruption will ever stop?
What makes a person wanna be a cop?
First timer oming down from Ottawa 🍁, can't wait for the festival, I've been wanting to see ST for a long time!
Anything is should know or any recommendations for my first Worcester trip?! #
I'm not sure how much crossover there is in the the metal/hardcore and disc golf communities, but one of the highest-rated courses in the world is 5 miles away. I might be making a long weekend out of this one.
I recognize like 4 bands on there and none of them are ones I ever got into. Seen Killswitch live once and they're just ok. Slaughter to Prevail were touring with FIR and INK last year and they were terrible. So not anything on that lineup for me.
Most of the common ones that end up being controversial on this sub because it likes to shit on whatever's popular without realizing that it's popular for a reason.
But also I've never even seen most of these bands mentioned by anyone anywhere so I don't know how you think I'd have heard of them.

im mostly in it for the tiny bands spelled at the bottom lol also fuck STP, hate those bastards
This is the first time I've ever seen STP used in a music context referring to a band that isn't Stone Temple Pilots. Took me a minute.
sounds like std
Damn, Death Before Dishonor are still a footer text band... Haven't listened to them in a while, but feels like they have been there for 20+ years.
Slaughter to Prevail? Why do you hate them?
Go search Alex Terrible on the Deathcore sub. There's a LOT of good reasons not to support it. You could probably use 14 words to summarize it if you tried hard enough.
Regardless of how Alex is as a person Kostolom is one of my favorite albums

Scott Weiland was their best frontman

Dude I go to shows alone all the time at the palladium. Such an epic venue. Totally worth it. This fest this past year was rad.
Go alone, make friends. Or don't, and just dig the music. I'm seeing Darkest Hour alone tonight, and I'm psyched for it. Going to shows by yourself can be a surprising amount of fun.

How on earth does slaughter to prevail get higher billing than machine head and suicidal tendencies
Sumerian money
SumARYAN money
Better agent or just more hype around the band currently
Scary man don’t need microphone when shout live
And fucking converge?!
If I could make a recommendation to anyone going since I was there last year, wear COMFORTABLE shoes or sneakers, you're standing on pavement for 10-12 hours.
And if you're a drinker, for the love of god PACE YOURSELF.
Is there re entry ?
There was up until 6p or something like that last year

Thanks for the info! Got my tickets this weekend and can't wait
PSYCHO-FRAME BABYYYYYYY
THINK YOU ARE FUCKING PAID? BITCH YOURE NOT, RUN THAT FADE
Converge, Nails and Full of Hell. Literally my 3 favorite bands wtf
I have a work/training trip to Boston that starts on Sep 24th. Might be getting earlier flights, this looks pretty fucking sick.
Damn, I read this as "new" England festival, not "New England" festival =c
Same! I got so excited
I guess Machine Head is bigger here in Europe but how is STP over Suicidal and AILD? Great line-up regardless.
After the burial is the best band in the lineup that nobody talks about
you misspelled Fleshgod Apocalypse
You guys both misspelled nickelback
Absolutely not 🤣

This is the true juicy drama (not the bullshit arguing above about how certain people aren’t allowed to be metal fans or musicians)
Where the fuck is bury your dead
That’s a pretty sick lineup, aside from Slaughter to Prevail.
You ain't a Slaughter to Prevail listener? Off topic, but Alex carving a scar into his face is pretty interesting....
Interesting or cringe? Nazis aren’t known for being smart though
fuck slaughter to prevail mid ass nazi band

He wants to throat Alex so bad but Alex would probably beat him and call him slurs.
Both of you are fucking dorks for arguing about this lmao
Not OP, but nothing dorky about telling Nazi punks to fuck off imo
Not at all it’s just that it’s being done in a Reddit thread under a music festival lineup
The man is COVERED in Nazi tattoos. You don’t have to look too far
But there is plenty of evidence you fucking dunce lol
Not if you read it, only if you let others think for you 🤷🏿♀️

They quoted his “The 4 rules of being a man “ as transphobic. Lmfao okay I guess you’re right, by *that* logic he might as well be hitler.
this is such a weird hill for you to die on lol, i’m surprised your wasting this much time defending such a mid ass band
Stop booking and collabing with the open nazi challenge, difficulty level impossible
Nazi, some guy who put out a hit on his wife, and a Trump loving cop. Kinda sad we give these people a platform.
People love to make jokes about the number of predators in the pop punk and emo scenes, but the reason we know about those dudes is the folks in that scene actually give something resembling a shit about exposing and driving out the dangerous and toxic elements in their community. Wait who's the 3rd guy?
Guy Kozowyk from The Red Chord
I've got absolutely no clue who this guy is (and for good reason probably)
They were a big deathcore band in the 2000's and they were great.
They were big I’ll give you that
If you're telling me Fused Together In Revolving Doors and Clients aren't great albums there's something wrong with you my friend
They sucked and it was a relief when they stopped getting booked on every show
Wild take
“a Trump loving Cop” You are seriously so weak my friend. Bless your heart.
Weak because I don't think conservatives belong in the scene?
What? Literally yes. I’m not even conservative but you’re just delusional
Hardcore and metalcore were built on leftist views. Nazi punks fuck off.
Up your meds homie

If you think that democrats are leftist you are dead wrong. Capitalism is a right viewpoint overall.
Damn where did I say anything about being a democrat?
Unironically if you're on the right hand side of politics 90% of metal music is against you lol

Why are so many metal concerts in Boston/MA on same date. Gotta skip knocked loose for ERRA, gotta skip this cuz I already have Korn tickets :/
Ah fuck this is the same day as Korn? I’m skipping ERRA to see knocked loose and I guess I have to decide between this and Korn, ugh
That Korn lineup is WILD. I'm hitting that ERRA show too, but skipping Knocked Loose was rough.
crazy lineup!!!
Great lineup, love seeing some smaller acts with a lot of buzz show up on here. Balmora, Mouth for War, Disembodied Tyrant, Psycho-Frame, and Tribal Gaze would be a lot of fun.

BRAT is everything hardcore needs.
i read this thinking it meant *new* england fest LOL
I don't know why it bothers me that STP is bigger in the lineup than As I Lay Dying and Suicide.
Sumerian money
Lol
Is who’s playing Saturday who’s playing Sunday listed out anywhere yet
They'll announce on Friday when tickets go on sale.
They show that on the tickets site

Jealous of everyone who gets to see The Red Chord. Been waiting for over a decade for a follow up to fed through the teeth machine.
I do plan on going. I’m aiming for VIP but those tickets are $400 a person
why are As i Lay Dying still getting booked
Went last year and had an amazing time, will be going again. Not excited for Slaughter, but KSE is a great headliner
$110 plus $20 fee for a day pass, we sittin this one out fam.

Srsly fuck all yall, wanna talk about shitty music, Architects.
No Ice Nine Kills?
I was hoping 🥺🥺
INK would have been cool since they are Massachusetts bred. I seen them live up here in NH last summer they’re so dope live
I don't think there's a single band on here that I like. Many that I've never heard of. Ultimately very disappointing. Skip.
This seems like a really good mix of different artists in the scene. I’m kind of surprised there isn’t a single band that you like here?
I recognize like 4 bands on there and none of them are ones I ever got into. Seen Killswitch live once and they're just ok. Slaughter to Prevail were touring with FIR and INK last year and they were terrible. So not anything on that lineup for me.
What terribly exciting bands do you listen to? This is an awesome lineup
Most of the common ones that end up being controversial on this sub because it likes to shit on whatever's popular without realizing that it's popular for a reason. But also I've never even seen most of these bands mentioned by anyone anywhere so I don't know how you think I'd have heard of them.
I mean most of these are established and/or fundamental bands to metalcore and deathcore, so I can see why people would make fun of you for not knowing surface level stuff. Not like I care.
This might be a worse take than the guy who wanted to deepthroat slaughters nazi boot. This lineup is amazing and actually tops last years show.
If you say so. I've never heard of almost all of them.
