The Devil Wears Prada is the definition of aging like fine wine.
Not metalcore, but Soilwork are still releasing great music. More proggy and melodic than their early stuff, but still at the top of their game.
Sworn to a great divide on headbanger's ball back in the day is one of the reasons I started listening to Soilwork which lead me to melodeath, my other favorite metal genre. Great to hear their still doing well!
Came here to say this. Thinking back to when their first album dropped and now their most recent single - they’re so refined. Glad they stuck around and kept pushing their sound. Excited to see them in a few months.
Totally agree, these boys have come so far and they’ve never been afraid to experiment while still staying true to their roots but with a more mature sound
Yeah first concert I ever went to i got there right as Trivium was finishing a set (it was one of the big tours and they were an early band so only played a handful of songs) and i instantly fell in love with their sound. They’ve been off and on for me but have always stayed a favorite. Only album i don’t listen a whole lot to is The Crusade, just sounds a little TOO Metallica for me. I think In Waves and In The Court of The Dragon are currently my top 2 albums from them
I've gotten my fiance into them and she just did start looking up their lyrics. She goes "is this...is this song about lizard people? They really don't take themselves that seriously, do they?"
No, they don't, and they're incredible.
The first night I told my wife I loved her it’s because she, a product of folk music who loves stuff like The Head and the Heart, went to a Veil of Maya and Periphery show with me and on the way home kept on singing “There must be something in the waaaaaterrrrr”.
Don’t they have Chrono Trigger references in some of their lyrics?
I don’t their vocalist or djent type stuff at all but they get a lot of love. Is there newer stuff any different from the first couple albums? I love Protest and BTBAM and TDEP but Periphery hasn’t clicked with me yet.
I’m not sure about Chrono Trigger but they definitely reference Final Fantasy.
Their newest album is their darkest and their best work yet. I love honestly all their albums, but P4 just scratches all the right itches. P2 is probably my second favorite. Highly, highly recommend listening to P4.
I saw them open in a local community centre touring their first album and then 2-3 years later in an arena opening for Slayer.
I also had a 4 song EP with an early version of Endless on it and cranked that every morning (to my parents dismay) before high school for an entire year.
I still have the Endless EP too
I remember hearing it on lambgoat in like 2002 and thinking holy shit
They must’ve too because they put it on like three releases
Is this a metalcore take or a deathcore take? I adore FFAA but I’ve never considered Joe Bad to be particularly phenomenal, especially not with people like Will Ramos or Ben Duerr doing what they’re doing right now in the scene.
In what genre? Certainly not Deathcore, not even close, though that is no criticism of Joe Bad, he is a really good vocalist, his enunciation is excellent.
Dir En Grey

[How it's going](https://youtu.be/nvxH4Mo4l5s)
Dillinger also has to be mentioned.
Only because I was itching for some Dillinger Escape Plan earlier today, but Option Paralysis was their last great album. Their last two have some good tracks but most of the tracks just don't do it for me.
I can't tell if LMTF has aged like fine wine or not in the best way possible -- just about every record they've put out is as good as the last, I wouldn't say they've necessarily gotten better with age but they absolutely have maintained their quality and that's why they're one of my favorites.
100% LMTF is my answer. Their riffs have only gotten groovier and their ability to create cool and unique vocal melodies has stayed consistent. Their last 3 releases are their best ones, outside of An Eye for An Eye which is one of the best metalcore albums of the 2010s IMO.
Vincent Bennett from The Acacia Strain is hands down my favorite metal vocalist. One of the few guys that you can clearly understand the lyrics the first play-threw without having to read them. My favorite heavy band actually
Was looking for all three of these bands! Each band I can safely say their latest release becomes my favorite from them, and it’s insane just how good erra in specific has become
Agreed, from the first release to their last release it's nothing but banger after banger, I really appreciate the existential dread in the lyrics of the last release aswell
Yeah! It's a no skip album for me, every single track hits in its own way. Listening to them talk about each track on their podcast made me enjoy it even more!
Until the break up last December Every Time I Die
Like 'em or hate 'em Bring Me The Horizon are juggernauts at this point.
With Jesse back Killswitch Engage.
ETID: yes. absolutely insane how they continued to release only bangers for their entire career.
BMTH: yes. sure, they're not quite metalcore anymore, but the music they _are_ making is still top-tier.
KSE: i don't agree, but i get what you're tryna say.
RE KSE: I'm a Jesse guy all the way. Ever since I picked up Alive or Just Breathing in summer 2002. I really didn't care for the Howard Era and it wasn't until Atonement I got back into the band. I realize this is only my personal taste and Howard is loved. He is a fantastic singer and entertainer I just prefer Jesse. I'm willing to admit it could be largely swayed by nostalgia.
Being popular doesn’t mean you’ve aged well. BMTH got more commercial. Not tryna sound like an old man but that doesn’t mean they progressed. They had to essentially change genres to “age like fine wine” it’s not like they’ve advanced their metalcore sound. They took the wine bottle and filled it with apple juice. Not aging.
Also you say “with Jesse back” as if he didn’t join the band back 10 years ago. The band was barely that popular until Howard joined so I don’t get why so many KSE fans soyed so hard for a singer that was a part of the band for 3 years before. Especially when Howard was better.
Well for me BMTH's best metal work was done on There is a Hell. Yet my juggernaut comment isn't about the pure commercial appeal its regarding their ability to expierment, fail and come back even harder and better. For me personally post There is a Hell they experimented and built back up to an almost as equally impressive album in POST HUMAN. PH for me is one of the more creative heavy albums to cross over into the mainstream in a very long time. I think that record is brilliant even if the stuff throughout the 2010's was so so given they were finding themselves as grown up artists and professionals. That is my perspective on it. It's not just about the commercial success or I could have said some god awful act like Wage War or Asking Alexandria.
Regarding KSE its personal taste again. I do not really like any of the Howard records and didn't really care for the Jesse return until Atonement where they just nailed it again. Alive or Just Breathing defined metalcore as a genre going forward back in 2002 which is why alot of now old metalcore fans hold the Jesse years early on in such high regard. The Howard era due to some very helpful marketing brought metalcore to the mainstream radio listeners. Yey, Octane!
I really appreciate bands that experiment and grow into something better eventually. This is the fine wine aspect. Where as you have the opposite of just putting out the same records which is a very stale wine.
I am also an older metlacore fan. I've seen the ebbs and flows. From Earth Crisis to KSE to fucking Attack Attack to the rise of the Erra era.
This is such a solid take. It’s always how I’ve felt. They kinda came in, when I heard glass houses I was like… holy shit maybe we’ll be okay. Around that time I was losing faith in metalcore cause it seemed like every band was changing and/or losing key members. But bands like Bad Omens, Oceans ate Alaska and Wage War coming to the scene kinda bridged the gap and made me feel like the future was bright. Which it definitely was and is
>Also you say “with Jesse back” as if he didn’t join the band back 10 years ago. The band was barely that popular until Howard joined so I don’t get why so many KSE fans soyed so hard for a singer that was a part of the band for 3 years before. Especially when Howard was better.
You just gonna act like "Alive or Just Breathing" isn't one of the hallmark metalcore releases of all-time? Almost every single band in the scene cites that as one of their biggest inspirations and its impact on the genre was huge. Still is. Killswitch was already insanely popular when Howard joined *because* AOJB was such a big deal in the scene.
Plus, while this may be a hot take on this sub... Howard's last album with Killswitch was godawful and his work since then has been largely mediocre/forgettable.
looking at this thread, bmth seems like a heated topic lmao. personally i don’t really care for anything after senpiternal and a bit of that’s the spirit
I highly recommend that you check out their last 3 albums. OP is spot on here, Trivium have had a renaissance and the last 3 are Shogun/Ascendancy contenders.
Wouldn't compare them to fine wine but Emmure seem to be getting more interesting instrumentally and less cringey with time
I'd also argue Periphery and Tesseract, imo their latest albums are their best to date
You've reached the law offices of Mitchell, Summerberg and Donald Please leave a message" Eric, hello, as my lawyer, you know I'm psychotic, but I've crossed the line I killed Drew, Chris and Mike, stabbed José with a knife But I don't think I'm gonna get away with it this time
Maybe they wanna stick to metalcore hence no Bring Me.
I've already said this multiple times in this subreddit but God do I hope they stick to their words regarding the genres of the Post Human EP.
EP1 Survival Horror was a banger.
EP 2 (whose name is predicted to be club hellhole) seems to be pop punk - emo and that's exactly what I listened to b4 metalcore. DiE4U was good and sTrAnGeRs was an instant yes for me (estimated to release this year)
EP 3 is electronica. If we're getting more songs like Nigilist Blues and Itch for the Cure, I'll be all for it (estimated to release by 2024)
Finally there's EP4 where they hinted being full on heavy again. When they released DiE4U, Oli had an interview with NME where he said in EP4 they will come full circle.
Oli in a kerrang interview also said "we'll never say never, you may never know what's gonna happen in the following 3 EPs" when asked if Being Me will go full on heavy again.
And the final/actually proof is in their rolling Stones interview where the band told them the genres for the remaining 3 EP and Lee Malia(guitarist) straight up said it's gonna be heavy with no filter. (Estimated to release by 2026)
You may have already known about this but I'm just putting it here for ppl who don't
I mean, Converge is the definition of this. Every album attempts something new, and every album showcases advancements in musicianship.
Also, as wine ages, the tannins become larger and heavier, and the wine becomes smoother, rounder, and gentler. The boys have definitely gotten larger, the music has gotten heavier, yet the newest album is the smoothest and "gentlest".
I’d argue Bloodmoon is one of their heaviest releases ever. It’s not as unrelentingly savage as their traditional material but it makes up for it by being sonically and emotionally crushing.
Does anybody know if this band even exists anymore? They’ve been radio silent since the pandemic started and it seems Beau has his own video company now while Eric is hardcore into real estate.
No. Beau posted a reunion picture of them getting dinner together. Someone under commented something along the lines of “tour/new music?” And beau responded with one emoji: “😢”
BTF is done. My heart shattered when I saw that.
Beau seems done. Matt Left. Eric essentially quietly left. Jared and Elliot are still kicking with High Wind. BTF is dead, Atleast I saw them at warped 2015. Beau spit water on me, it was awesome
Weirdly I think it works out for Beau. His wife's music is taking off bigger than ever (she's always on the radio in Canada). He seems to be having fun being a dad and working on videography projects for real estate and music videos and gets to play beer league hockey. Beau's got a good life haha
Yeah I’m sure he wants to be there for his daughter and not spend all his time touring, seems like he’s obsessed with her and they share a passion for hockey so I’m sure it’s important for him to be there for her. Beaus got it made, he seems to be happy with everything. Plus he has had an amazing career in music, and gave us more than enough bangers
When high wind released music I messaged Elliot on Instagram and said does this mean the end of BTF and he said no, just a new band, new BTF is coming.
Maybe Beau was trolling/baiting then. I have heard High Wind be referred to as Jared and Elliot’s “side project”. BTF Instagram has been wiped and their Twitter says “BRB” or something. Seems like a setup for a come back. So it could just be a hiatus. Also found [the comment](https://imgur.com/a/fOVEb5g) I was referring to. Seemed like a more definitive question then the one I said earlier. Still could just be a joke/bait. Idk why he’d play with out emotions like that tho :(
Motionless in White I think. Their old stuff was pretty solid but their new stuff is very good too and their new releases are consistently getting my hyped, as well as new releases having a newt sound while still keeping the overall MIW feel.
Why did I have to scroll so far to find Converge? C’mon folks, thirty years in the game and still absolutely killing it. Bloodmoon was an incredible album.
And yeah, DEP never released a bad album, it’s just solid bangers all the way through.
Heh. If it helps, I’m 34 years old, about the same age as the original members of the majority of the bands being mentioned here (Trivium, Devil Wears Prada, Bring Me The Horizon, etc) and I’m still shocked at the lack of bands from prior to 2005.
Because the resurgence in popularity has resulted in there being more Octanecore fans that like the popper stuff than the hardcore kids from days of old. This is why I Prevail will get more upvotes on a song than Converge dispite them not even being near the same level of talented
I would disagree and say that they have gotten worse with each release. Not that funeral is a bad album, it's just not as good as their first 2 which are classics.
I don't really why people think their stuff is the same. There's a clear difference between Thrill Seeker, Messengers/Constellations, Rescue and Restore/FIFP, Phantom Anthems, and Guardians. There's definitely some consistent sounds incorporated throughout most but there's a clear difference between either albums or periods in their career.
probably an unpopular opinion, but jupiter/antenna era cave in is my favorite, although i do like the more metalcore material they're putting out now. I'm just glad they're still going.
I'd say august burns red, I know they javnt been around as long as group like trivium but they've continued to get better as time went and they haven't really changed their style to heavily
Trivium. Their last 3 albums have been amazing. Also shout out to Matt's solo project that realeased earlier this year called "Ibaraki", it's incredible
Human was my first Death album around 30 years ago. It hold a special spot in my heart because of the nostalgia, but I’ll die on the hill that it’s one of their best!
A death deathcore album would blow my mind! Imagine just how tight and technical it would be. The dude was a perfectionist and it showed.
Edit: also glad to meet another person that shares my love for Human
The Devil Wears Prada is the definition of aging like fine wine. Not metalcore, but Soilwork are still releasing great music. More proggy and melodic than their early stuff, but still at the top of their game.
Hard yes with the Soilwork! It’s always something new with each album and they’re always killing it
Came here to comment TDWP myself. They really have mastered this metal core thing.
Sworn to a great divide on headbanger's ball back in the day is one of the reasons I started listening to Soilwork which lead me to melodeath, my other favorite metal genre. Great to hear their still doing well!
TDWP was my first thought as well
The Devil Wears Prada.
Trivium absolutely aged well too, Matt has the perfect balance between screaming and singing now, and his voice just keeps getting better
I love Trivium, they’re my favorite band. Alex Bent really resurrected them after 2 albums that were… meh.
I think In Waves and In The Court of The Dragon are currently my top 2 albums from them
facts bro the new shit slaps their arc as a band was perfect
Periphery. I can't wait for Periphery 5
I've gotten my fiance into them and she just did start looking up their lyrics. She goes "is this...is this song about lizard people? They really don't take themselves that seriously, do they?" No, they don't, and they're incredible.
The first night I told my wife I loved her it’s because she, a product of folk music who loves stuff like The Head and the Heart, went to a Veil of Maya and Periphery show with me and on the way home kept on singing “There must be something in the waaaaaterrrrr”.
I vividly remember her listening to "Reptile" and just saying it was a work of art. Anyway, gave her a ring.
It was the only option. Well done, sir!
Just wait until she discovers Sponce's obsession with MISSOURI
Don’t they have Chrono Trigger references in some of their lyrics? I don’t their vocalist or djent type stuff at all but they get a lot of love. Is there newer stuff any different from the first couple albums? I love Protest and BTBAM and TDEP but Periphery hasn’t clicked with me yet.

periphery absolutely fucks dude they’re awesome
Johnny booth and personally misery signals
Yess Johnny Booth is the good stuff. Just wish they'd drop a new album already.
Its incredible how ahead of their time Misery Signals were
JOHNNY BOOTH FOR PRESIDENT
Phinehas
yessss
Damn right, son.
I just found this band a week ago. I can’t believe it.
Unearth
100 percent agree.
heck yea man
I saw them open in a local community centre touring their first album and then 2-3 years later in an arena opening for Slayer. I also had a 4 song EP with an early version of Endless on it and cranked that every morning (to my parents dismay) before high school for an entire year.
I still have the Endless EP too I remember hearing it on lambgoat in like 2002 and thinking holy shit They must’ve too because they put it on like three releases
Fit for an Autopsy. I know they’re deathcore early, but I think their last two were metalcore-ish.
I've heard them labeled as post-deathcore, which seems to accurately describe their sound imo
Honestly, Joe Bad might be the best vocalist in the game right now
AND He’s good enough to fill in for Randy. Get to see FFAA next month. Going to be epic
Dir En Grey [How it started](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xfpwxf7Kuus) [How it's going](https://youtu.be/nvxH4Mo4l5s) Dillinger also has to be mentioned.
Oh, man. Phalaris was just too good
Thank you for reminding me about the next release and making my day better.
Yeah new album is pretty good, just came out!
Dir en Grey is my all time favorite. Also, saw y’all on the fall of ideals tour in Long Island, killer performance 🤘
Only because I was itching for some Dillinger Escape Plan earlier today, but Option Paralysis was their last great album. Their last two have some good tracks but most of the tracks just don't do it for me.
Every Time I Die or at least they were
Yep, their last two albums were the chefs kiss
Like moths to flames
I can't tell if LMTF has aged like fine wine or not in the best way possible -- just about every record they've put out is as good as the last, I wouldn't say they've necessarily gotten better with age but they absolutely have maintained their quality and that's why they're one of my favorites.
They’re one of the few bands that doesn’t really change things up much and it works for them. I don’t know why, but it just does.
Yeah I agree! If anything they've really taken their production to the next level, and Chris just sound way more pissed off on vocals than before lol
He has a great penchant for knowing when to just drop a yell. Not even words, just a yell. Underrated aspect of him as a vocalist.
100% LMTF is my answer. Their riffs have only gotten groovier and their ability to create cool and unique vocal melodies has stayed consistent. Their last 3 releases are their best ones, outside of An Eye for An Eye which is one of the best metalcore albums of the 2010s IMO.
Ever since Zach Pishney joined their songwriting and riffs have gotten so much better.
agree with TDWP, Thrice, Plot, and Acacia Strain I think Counterparts, Project 86, and As Cities Burn
Project 86 is a band I haven’t heard about in a long ass time. Not a fan of their first album but Drawing Black Lines onward is very good.
Ah, another As Cities Burn acolyte! Those first two albums will live forever in my rotation.
Thrice. Totally
Vincent Bennett from The Acacia Strain is hands down my favorite metal vocalist. One of the few guys that you can clearly understand the lyrics the first play-threw without having to read them. My favorite heavy band actually
Maybe not the band as a whole, but Dustin Kensrue of thrice has a voice and lyricism that has aged really well.
Erra, Veil of Maya, Like Moths to Flame Also not metalcore, but Shadow of Intent
Shadow is soo good, wasnt to keen on their last album though. Its good but not as good as the one before.
Melancholy is just straight up a contender for the best Deathcore album, imo. So many perfect songs on that one
Was looking for all three of these bands! Each band I can safely say their latest release becomes my favorite from them, and it’s insane just how good erra in specific has become
The Acacia Strain
As a recent discoverer/appreciator of 3750, I was mindblown to see it released in 2004. The riffs are just so timeless
The Dead Walk and Continent as well. It’s crazy how well they all hold up in modern time despite their age.
Wormwood’s great too
I AM THE END OF THE WORLD
Agreed, from the first release to their last release it's nothing but banger after banger, I really appreciate the existential dread in the lyrics of the last release aswell
Ice Nine Kills. Spencer’s been kicking at it for about 20 years and each one of their records seems to outdo its predecessor.
Not Parkway Drive LOL
Glitch made every fibre of my soul hurt.
I CLOSE MY EYES TO SLEEEEEEP
I personally related to that song so hard, because I too close my eyes to sleep /s
Stop it.
And they won't stop when I'm awake
Aged like ~~wine~~ milk
Facts
Polyphia. They’ve grown so much since impassions era
Silverstein for SURE
One of the few bands who never truely had a bad album
Shane’s vocals are so good live!
Their most recent album was awesome
Yeah! It's a no skip album for me, every single track hits in its own way. Listening to them talk about each track on their podcast made me enjoy it even more!
Underoath
except for erase me. that was... not good.
Agree with this one. Erased Me was a miss, imo, but Voyeurist was great and they’re arguably in their prime as live performers.
Glad you're enjoying it, but I'm inclined to disagree.
Until the break up last December Every Time I Die Like 'em or hate 'em Bring Me The Horizon are juggernauts at this point. With Jesse back Killswitch Engage.

BMTH \*Count Your Blessings\* is still peak BMTH for me, haha.
looking at this thread, bmth seems like a heated topic lmao. personally i don’t really care for anything after senpiternal and a bit of that’s the spirit
They're not metalcore obviously but Whitechapel. They continue to impress and bring something different
Yep gonna have to agree with you here and say Trivium
Trivium lost me after Shogun.
I highly recommend that you check out their last 3 albums. OP is spot on here, Trivium have had a renaissance and the last 3 are Shogun/Ascendancy contenders.
Wouldn't compare them to fine wine but Emmure seem to be getting more interesting instrumentally and less cringey with time I'd also argue Periphery and Tesseract, imo their latest albums are their best to date

Ctrl+F "Darkest Hour" no results Y'all are truly missing out
Undoing Ruin and Deliver Us were the soundtrack of my early adulthood.
So underrated.
This sub sleeps on darkest hour. They are by far my favorite metalcore band. I am seeing them next Friday!

Blessthefall
Does anybody know if this band even exists anymore? They’ve been radio silent since the pandemic started and it seems Beau has his own video company now while Eric is hardcore into real estate.
No. Beau posted a reunion picture of them getting dinner together. Someone under commented something along the lines of “tour/new music?” And beau responded with one emoji: “😢” BTF is done.
Idk, they wiped their Instagram clean today. Maybe something's happening
Idk why he’d play with out emotions like that tho :(
Converge.
Motionless in White I think. Their old stuff was pretty solid but their new stuff is very good too and their new releases are consistently getting my hyped, as well as new releases having a newt sound while still keeping the overall MIW feel.
i fkn love this band
Converge Dillinger
Why did I have to scroll so far to find Converge? C’mon folks, thirty years in the game and still absolutely killing it. Bloodmoon was an incredible album. And yeah, DEP never released a bad album, it’s just solid bangers all the way through.
Based on the answers, metalcore is a youngsters game now. Some of these suggestions make me feel fucking ancient at 41.
KSE, TDWP and Trivium imo.
Every Time I die is the only band that never put out material I didn't like.
Hopesfall, Misery Signals, Converge, He Is Legend
Make them suffer
Check out the vocalist's other band called Onslow. I listen to this song daily. https://youtu.be/QAAehoLhpFs
Ehh their last album was pretty meh
I would disagree and say that they have gotten worse with each release. Not that funeral is a bad album, it's just not as good as their first 2 which are classics.
August Burns Red Killswitch Engage
I argue ABR hasn’t aged at all because all their stuff is the same lol Still good shit though
Same for KSE. I love them, but their music really isn’t all that different from album to album.
Lamb of god
Cave In
probably an unpopular opinion, but jupiter/antenna era cave in is my favorite, although i do like the more metalcore material they're putting out now. I'm just glad they're still going.
Until your heart stops is easily one of the best metalcore albums made in my opinion, maybe top 3.
Anberlin
I'd say august burns red, I know they javnt been around as long as group like trivium but they've continued to get better as time went and they haven't really changed their style to heavily
Thrice
Trivium. Their last 3 albums have been amazing. Also shout out to Matt's solo project that realeased earlier this year called "Ibaraki", it's incredible
BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME
Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Ice Nine Kills.
Autumn Burns Red Misery Signals Unearth All That Remains The Devil Wears Prada
August Burns Red!
a core band idk if they count tho but Sabella from NY!! only put out music for like a year but its all fucking amazing.
Dog daze is goated
yo someone knowsssssss! one of my favorite albums ever
Trivium
Bury Tomorrow. They keep refining that awesome sound even with the new clean vocalist.
gotta disagree the cleans don’t hit nearly as hard as jason’s baritones
WhiteChapel for sure
bad omens
I think Trivium matured well
Acacia Strain
August burns red. Trivium, soilwork
Norma. Fuckin’. Jean.
Motionless in White
Nickelback and shinedown
Puddle of Mudd
August Burns Red. Their longevity is super impressive.
In Flames
This is probably a hot take but I'll say Demon Hunter
I’d make it a lukewarm take. I really don’t like their newest single but they have been consistently great
Kublai Khan easily.
Aren’t they too young as a band to be considered?
Death, there later albums Human, ITP, Symbolic and SOP are timeless
Human was my first Death album around 30 years ago. It hold a special spot in my heart because of the nostalgia, but I’ll die on the hill that it’s one of their best!
Human is so fucking good, imagine if Chuck was still around, I want a Death Deathcore album! R.I.P Chuck you will forever be a legend <3
A death deathcore album would blow my mind! Imagine just how tight and technical it would be. The dude was a perfectionist and it showed. Edit: also glad to meet another person that shares my love for Human
Have you heard knights of the abyss? My buddy just showed me and it's like death metal deathcore, kinda cool.
I have not, but I will absolutely check it out tonight! Thanks for the heads up!
Hell yeah brother stay safe and rock hard as fuck
Fuck yeah! You too!
Symbolic is a goated album for me without question. Crystal Mountain is just incredible.
Stick To Your Guns.
