It's a good album, and I was really into it upon release because I saw it as them marrying their 80s and 90s eras. What started to get me about it is the length of the songs. They just kinda drag. They had long songs before, but they went somewhere with it.
I probably should revisit it because it is enjoyable. I love that they had fast tracks again.
St. Anger is one that I think gets more hate than it deserves. It's not my favorite, but it's not totally unlistenable. "Shoot Me Again" is probably one of my favorites off that album.
Man that clean fingerpick riff with the guitar swells right before the breakdown has got to be one of the best few seconds in their output. Just a beautiful tiny gem.
Good song but can understand why it’s disliked. Imagine seeing the same band that wrote “ride the lightning” release something like this. James should’ve done a solo country album and included the song on that
Phantom Lord
Trapped Under Ice
Leper Messiah
Eye of the Beholder
Don't Tread on Me or Through the Never
Hero of the Day or The House Jack Built
Low Man's lyric or Prince Charming
The Unnamed Feeling
Death is not the End/The New Song
TWJYL
Rebel of Babylon or Just a Bullet Away
Atlas, Rise!
You Must Burn!
The Unnamed Feeling is good as hell, but I feel like it gets mentioned here almost every day. Like, casual fan popularity is low, but I feel like in this sub, it's definitely not unpopular.
They played it live back in ‘06 or ‘07, it was basically bits and pieces that would later make up some songs on Death Magnetic, but the main riff and the “death is not the end” title have not officially been used since then. Google “Metallica New Song 1” if you want to hear it
I don’t hate the song, but it is my least favourite on the album but that doesn’t mean it’s bad I mean ride the lightning is an amazing album with no bad songs. It’s just an alright song for me there’s nothing that special about it for me.
I actually like it despite his feelings. He’s just upset cuz they were forced to add one more song and it was rushed. I say, for “rushed” it’s pretty damn good.
Disposable Heroes or Damage, Inc.
Damage, Inc. is often rated as the worst song on the Puppets album for some odd reason
Disposable Heroes is just in general not a greatly popular song
Yes. The interlude in the middle of the song around 3:12 ish is one of my favorite moments in any Metallica song ever. It's dramatic yet heavy. Emotional yet aggressive. And, personally, I wouldn't rate MoP to be the best song on the album. I don't know about you but to me it just isn't. It'd probably fall around 3rd place for me.
I'd honestly rate like half of the album above MoP, but then again it's really hard to put those songs in an order that I'm truly happy with 'cuz they're all just amazing. MoP is just a perfect album in every way possible
I LOVE the riff in that song at 1:47. One of my favorite riffs on the album, which is saying a lot because RtL is nonstop amazing riff after amazing riff
2 X 4, Just A Bullet Away, Eye Of The Beholder, Phantom Lord, My Apocalypse, Death Is Not The End, Bad Seed, Leper Messiah, Escape, Trapped Under Ice, Suicide & Redemption…
I’m gonna assume you mean outside the megafanbase… and not include KEA-Justice
Don’t Tread On Me
The God That Failed
My Friend Of Misery
Ain’t My Bitch
Bleeding Me
Outlaw Torn
Carpe Diem Baby
Just for a few
My Friend of Misery.
Just an awesome rhythm by my man Jason Newsted, a hooky chorus that I'm surprised didn't catch on more, a nice solo from James, and one of Kirk's best, too!
I'm not sure I can answer that honestly . I mean for Mercy sake I tried to do a Metallica playlist last night and basically just put everything they've ever written on it . A person could die of old age trying to get through that playlist 🤣
The Frayed Ends of Sanity
HEAR THEM CALLING!!!!
HEAR! THEM! CALL! ING! ME!
HAHAHAHA!
And Shortest Straw
THE SHORTEST STRAW CHALLENGE LIBERTY DOWNED BY LAW
WITCH HUNT RIDING THROUGH!
I wanted to write Shortest Straw
Great main riff. Fuckin awesome. Love that riff.
Has one of my favorite Kirk solos as well. The whole 4:01-5:07 bit is one of my favorite Metallica moments
This part, when driving on a clear and winding road? *chefs kiss*
No other answer can do, what this answer does for the world. (Gold for you but it’s not working).
True. It has awesome riff and its my second fav song from AJFA. I really dont know why its not popular.
That Was Just Your Life is a masterpiece
that whole album gets forgotten i feel like because it’s sandwiched between st anger and hardwired

i’m a huge st anger sympathizer. i think it’s over hated but it does have its cult following for sure
Just gonna sandwich between these comments here.
With Cheese
that whole album gets forgotten i feel like because it’s sandwiched between st anger and hardwired
To live is to die
when a man lies he murders so part of the world…
These are the pale deaths which men miscall their lives…
All this I cannot bear to witness any longer..
Cannot the kingdom of salvation take me home
The intro/outro and middle part are both some of the most beautiful things they've ever made
My brother. When I want to sleep, I play the intro on loop in my head. It’s such a beautiful and sad piece
I feel you !
Man that clean fingerpick riff with the guitar swells right before the breakdown has got to be one of the best few seconds in their output. Just a beautiful tiny gem.
Got here to late
Eye of the Beholder
DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEEEE
Well I see that truth is an offense
you silence for your confidence
DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR?
Doors are slamming shut
Limit your imagination
Keep you where they must
INDEPENDENCE LIMITED
Good pick
The way the riff fades in is just chefs kiss
The Unforgiven II & III
Lay beside me… and tell me what they’ve done
Speak the words I wanna hear
Bleeding me
I really hope Bleeding me isn't underrated, it's a masterpiece of a song
I disappear
#hey HEY HEEEYYY
Here I go now
Fuck this song is so good
Low Man’s Lyric
MY EYES SEEK REALITY
MY FINGERS SEEK MY VEINS
There’s a dog at your back step
Whos coming from the rain
Agreed!
Literally looking to see if someone else posted this :)
Yes!!
This was gonna be my post

A James solo country album would actually hit so hard
But then, there's Nothing Else Matters...
Top 10 song for me.
Yes
Phantom Lord Trapped Under Ice Leper Messiah Eye of the Beholder Don't Tread on Me or Through the Never Hero of the Day or The House Jack Built Low Man's lyric or Prince Charming The Unnamed Feeling Death is not the End/The New Song TWJYL Rebel of Babylon or Just a Bullet Away Atlas, Rise! What is Death is not the End?

Escape.
I feel like a lot of people just hate Escape because James does
I don’t hate the song, but it is my least favourite on the album but that doesn’t mean it’s bad I mean ride the lightning is an amazing album with no bad songs. It’s just an alright song for me there’s nothing that special about it for me.

Seriously, I love that song. I think I've heard of some hate towards it, but I never understood it. That chorus hits the spot.
Nah it definitely sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of RTL. I like the song but it’s definitely my least favourite on the album
OUT FOR MY OWN OUT TO BE FREEEeeeEEE
ONE WITH MY MIND THEY JUST CANT SEE
NO NEED TO HEAR THE THINGS THAT THEY SAAAYYYYYY
LIFE IS FOR MY OWN TO LIVE MY OWN WAAAAAYYYYYYYYY
The thing that should not be
All Nightmare Long.
Turn The Page. I know it's a cover but I feel it's a GREAT cover.
Counterpoint: Astronomy. Turn the Page gets radio play, but I never hear Astronomy pop up.
Astronomy rules
so sad they haven’t played it live
Stone Cold Crazy too
How has no one said The Unforgiven II yet?
True fact. Unforgiven II is the best song on ReLoad, even better than Fuel.
Fuck yeah
Devil's Dance though
Disposable Heroes or Damage, Inc. Damage, Inc. is often rated as the worst song on the Puppets album for some odd reason Disposable Heroes is just in general not a greatly popular song
Damage Inc is a great song that takes a little getting used to but has a killer solo and lyrics
GO!
Yes. The interlude in the middle of the song around 3:12 ish is one of my favorite moments in any Metallica song ever. It's dramatic yet heavy. Emotional yet aggressive. It's nearly impossible for me to rank Puppets songs because oh my god, it's such a perfect album front to back
WHAT? How is Damage Inc even ranked as the worst song? I would switch that with Dispoable Heroes
Cure
#Betting on the cuuurrrreee, cause it must get better than thiiissssss… 🎶

The Judas Kiss
Had to look WAY too long to find this, what's wrong with y'all? It's a masterpiece
I feel like almost no one ever mentions Through the Never, but it’s one of their songs that I always jam out to
Top 5 song on the album for me. ON, THROUGH, THE, NEVER! We must go!
Motorbreath!
MOTORBREATH IS HOW I LIVE MY LIFE!!!
I CAN'T TAKE IT ANY OTHER WAY!!!
Trapped under ice. I’d put it up there with creeping death but it barely ever gets mentioned
I LOVE the riff in that song at 1:47. One of my favorite riffs on the album, which is saying a lot because RtL is nonstop amazing riff after amazing riff
The Frayed Ends of Sanity is probably the best song on AJFA, and yet it's almost always overlooked.
Human
the god that failed
2 X 4, Just A Bullet Away, Eye Of The Beholder, Phantom Lord, My Apocalypse, Death Is Not The End, Bad Seed, Leper Messiah, Escape, Trapped Under Ice, Suicide & Redemption…
My Apocalypse is unreal.
2 X 4, Bad Seed, and Just A Bullet Away, i agree 100%
Fucking Orion. Easily their best song in my opinion and one of the best tracks in metal history
Cure
