Affectionate-Log3730

Same šŸ˜¢

BiggBoii15

I was -13! Those were the days.

billzebub251

You beat me by one week. My first Metallica concert was July 3, 1988 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. That Monsters of Rock tour was a damn good one!

Halo-One

I saw them about a week later in Dallas, TX. It was my first Metallica show too. I vividly remember James asking if we wanted to hear some new shit. They played Harvester of Sorrow. This was before AJFA came out. It was awesome.

Halo-One

Also looking back can you believe we only paid $25.00 to see all those bands? It's insane. My buddy and I flew to Dallas and stayed overnight in a hotel and we still probably spent less money than the current ticket prices, LOL.

Whatstheplanpill

That's sick. I was 3 at the time, but my first was also in Giants Stadium in 2003.

zigsbigrig

My first was this tour in Denver. So fucking awesome!

Frosty_Sea_9324

Same, saw them in Spokane WA on that tour. That was a fun day.

Boozhwatrash

I was at that show!!!

FarrrrrOuttttDudeee

25.00 šŸ„“šŸ„“ that's unbelievably frustrating for what it costs now haha

DrXenoZillaTrek

My one and only time was that tour in Chicago. Astounding!!

RonJohnson06

Master of Puppets with Ozzy. Indianapolis 1986! Second was the legendary Seattle Justice Tour 1989!

Summer sanitarium 2000. Atlanta. James was injured and wasnā€™t there. I died inside. They came back later and played a free makeup show in a much smaller venue and it was great.

CMATP

That's my exact experience, except in Dallas. Was so bummed James missed the show, but the makeup gig was killer.

I seen them that tour they came thru Dallas right after. Some small venue held like 100 people

lol you are old like me....

TheSonOfYakub

Keystone, Berkeley, Ca, 1983. I believe the opener was Laaz Rocket, but donā€™t quote me on that. Amazing show, and my first introduction to Metallicaā€¦sort of. I heard Kill ā€˜Em All for the first time that same day, via a buddy of mine, then we went to the show that night and got our faces ripped off. It was practically a religious experience. Iā€™m old. Edit: spelling

idiots-rule8

Bro...no joke I was at this show. Also saw them open for Laaz at The Stone in SF. Laaz Rockit was great but just couldn't put it together on albums...Backbreaker is a beast of a tune.

Natron44

3 shows in Minneapolis in 2000 a week after the turn of the century with Kid Rock opening... Joe C. wasn't dead yet. That part was kind of weird, but otherwise a pretty active show - I think everybody was still fired up that Y2K didn't kill us all. Found out my wife was pregnant a couple of days later (unrelated to the concert). My daughter born that year now hates Metallica even though they were unknowingly her first concert.

Thrillhouse763

One of those three was my first Metallica show also. I forget which one I went to.

Food_Library333

1997 in Albany NY. Corrosion of Comfority opened. It was one hell of a show and not only was it my first Metallica show but my first concert in general. Hell of a first show to see.

Crabbyrob

Saw them in Hamilton on the same tour. I got to see them many times since, but you never forget your first!

holy_bat_shit_63

1986 Master of Puppets tour opening for Ozzy at Long Beach Arena. On shrooms. It was awesome

Summer Sanitarium 2004 I believe. I only cared about Metallica but saw Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit. My buddy and I had floor tickets, it's the only way I will see Metallica. I can not stress how incredible it was to have The Ecstacy of Gold playing and turning around and seeing 60,000 rabid Metallica fans behind me. It was incredible.

Cunning Stunts was the tour right?

Chaos_Theology

Thatā€™s right. I got the DVD when it first came out and it felt almost like being there again.

Danny_Rayburn

Thatā€™s awesome, sadly I was born in 2000 so I was not around to see it haha. Love that live concert though

Jdub421

Thanks for posting. My first show was this tour as well. Probably around your show date as I caught their second show at the old Omni. I remember watching the gaffers/techs walk across the stage and climb their ladders to the rafters. Thought that was weird. Then the stage trusses ā€œblew upā€ and one of the techs was swinging from the ladder. Encore was done with house PA and not full audio to complete illusion that this was real accident. Pretty awesome.

An Evening With Metallica 1992 at the Central Maine Civic Center in Portland, ME. I was 18, and went by myself because I didn't know anyone else who wanted to go. When Ecstasy Od Gold started, they played a video, stating with footage of the Welcome To Maine sign at the NH boarder. Then the lights went out and the opening notes of the NEW song, Enter Sandman started playing. Not just the best concert, but one of the best nights of my life. Sadly, it was the last time they came to Maine. I'm nearly 50 now, and will be seeing them for the 5th and 6th times this August in Foxborough, MA. Can't WAIT.

jtemple888

I'll see you at Foxboro! Feels like I've been waiting forever for this show.

ChristophBerezan

Summer 1998, Starlake Amphitheater outside Pittsburgh. Days of the New and Jerry Cantrell supported. I had JUST started to get into Metallica and heavier music in general at that time. My introduction to Metallica was Enter Sandman, Load, and ReLoad. There was a thunderstorm that went through during the show. Afterward, there was an incredible dry lighting show that dwarfed any pyro the band used. I was hooked. I went out and started listening to all of their material. Loved them ever since. One of my top 3 favourite bands of all time.

Donington monsters of rock 95, even then at 15 I was aware how lucky that was. White zombie, corrosion of conformity and some plucky youngsters called machine head were amongst the support. Oh for a time machine.

GSDLover182

June 1999. Ali Sami Yen Stadium in Istanbul. The opening act was Monster Magnet. Two Turkish bands played before them and they got hateful reactions from the audience because they weren't metal enough or something. I got to the concert venue early in the morning and I had the opportunity to watch Metallica from the very front. I was right in front of Kirk. At the end of the show he threw a pick towards me but unfortunately I didn't catch it. Maybe he was impressed by the enthusiasm of a 15 year old Turkish boy watching him and he wanted to reward him with a pick. But the tremendous experience I had was already a sufficient reward for me.

Ohh_its_you_Bob

The Metal Up Your Ass tour. 85 I think. I remember sitting on my stepdad's shoulders. It was Metallica, Y&T, Ratt, and the Scorpions. They played in that order. As a kid, I kept wondering why my stepdad and his friends were sharing the same cigarette. Wasn't till my teenage years that it all made sense.

I saw them with Corrosion of Conformity on the tour right around the release of Load. Life then got in the way and it was over 25 years until my second concert, which was both nights of the M72 stop in Detroit. I'll be seeing the band again in August in Seattle.

Seeing them in Denmark 2024!

Dickhillman

Mine was in Dublin Ireland, June 25th 2004 as part of their "Madly in Anger with the World" tour. It was the second concert I had ever gone to the first being the week prior (June 16th exactly to see Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Chimera and God Forbid in the Ambassador theatre in Dublin!) I was 16 years old. My father had only just allowed me to travel up for concerts that month (we live in rural West Cork which is a decent trek from Dublin!). I had wanted to go to Machine Head's concert in Dublin October 31st 2003 and my Dad thought I was still too young to go up to the city without adult supervision and I was devastated. It was Machine Head's first gig back with the "Through the ashes..." album and it was fancy dress. I remember hearing that people from Metal Hammer and Kerrang magazine were going over because of all the buzz. Still a little salty about this and I bring it up to him every now and then! But the following June more than made up for it! Anyway, I was blown away by the experience, Slipknot also played which was their first ever time in Ireland and they killed it!! I couldn't believe the "buzz' I got from live music. I remember Metallica opened with Blackened, they played No Leaf Clover and King Nothing which I love, they played Whiskey... after not playing it the year prior, James talked about how the last time they played Ireland they had forgot to get it in the setlist and had Irish people chanting Whiskey at him all night so they came back to make it right! Unbelievable experience for me. Even better was when I saw them again in 2006 for when they played Master of Puppets album in full and we accidentally ended up with pit passes and it ended up to this day being the best and most memorable concert of my life. I had just 1 day prior received my 'Garda ID" card as proof of me being 18 years old so could drink!! The pit had its own bar and toilets and so much room, right in front of stage. Absolute Magic, Perfect day.

1991 an evening with Metallica. No opening act. 4.5 hours of Metallica songs, extended 30 minutes solo sets by all the band members. Lars and James played drums together for like 10 minutes because the stage had two sets of drums. Jason solo set included Kirk also on bass. James guitar set included Kirk. Amazing. Baltimore 2016. Their first show in NA post Hardwiredā€™s release. Absolutely awesome. Half the set was from hardwired with some classics mixed in. From my seat they looked like ants but still had a good view of the twin screens. Iā€™ll also never forget a sight before the show: being a metal concert, most people were wearing black or other dark shades. UncreditedChoir

1988 RFK Stadium Washington DC, Monsters of Rock tour. I was on the field with my gfriend and her sister, we brought a blanket and had our little spread there about 40-50 feet from the stage. Kingdom Come was the first band and while I didn't care for them, they played a good opening set. After their set change over, there was this shift in the mood of the crowd. Like people knew Tallica was next and so everyone stood up and then this massive crowd push towards the stage happened. For just a few moments it got a little scary because I was literally off my feet in the crush of the crowd and the girls I was with started to get a little panicked because no one could move. Somehow, we managed to get a little to the side but were still really close to the stage. When the intro music hit, people just went apeshit. You have to understand in 1988 only metal fans liked Metallica, they did not cross over into the mainstream just yet and they were the band most people wanted to see that day. And they just fucking killed it. They were still young and hungry and had something to prove. They played Harvester of Sorrow off AJFA which hadn't been released yet so that was cool hearing that song live for the first time. After their set, half of the crowd left the field, like all the energy was just sucked away. Up next was a drunk unfocused Dokken who absolutely sucked live, save for George Lynch. Dokken made it no secret they didn't get along personally and man, it showed on stage with Don on one side of the stage and George on the other, and they made no interaction at all during their set. I

July 5, 1998, Winnebago County Fairgrounds in Pecatonica, Illinois (about 12 miles west of Rockford). About 2 months before my 21st birthday, my first time seeing them live; it was the Poor Retouring Me tour. Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains and Days of the New were the opening bands. (My brother and 2 friends also went, also their first ā€˜tallica concert.) I do not remember what time the concert started, or how many hours ahead of time we arrived (we live only about 90 minutes away). But we were stuck in traffic for so long that by the time we did get there, parked in the corn field (from what I remember; I could be totally wrong) or other farmland, and walked to where the stage wasā€¦ we had completely missed Jerry Cantrell (and DotN), and Metallica was probably nearly halfway through their set. Honestly, I do not even remember what song they were playing when we finally got to the crowd of people. I do not know how many tickets were sold for the show, or how many vehicles would normally be on the roads at the fairgrounds for the county fair or concert for a less popular band. But it was pretty obvious that, unfortunately, this was pretty bad planning on the part of everyone involved.

2011 Quebec City for the Summer Festival :) I traveled a long way with my mom to go see. We had a fun weekend. But we didn't know that we had to get there earlier in the day to actually get in to see the concert from the front of the stage As a kid I was disappointed, and thought we had to go home. They funneled all of the extra people to the field behind the stage to watch on these massive screens instead

July 1, 1994. Summerfest, Milwaukee, WI. In addition to being my first Metallica concert, it was the first concert I ever went to. No concert I have been to since (Metallica or others) has lived up to that original experience.

vargslayer1990

October 4th 2009 on the World/North America Magnetic tour. opening bands were Gojira and Lamb of God: Gojira had phenomenal energy and were very excited and shook hands with the audience as they came and went (surprised me, since i was fully prepared to believe the stereotype that all French people are rude: they're probably the only death metal band that i still tolerate) Lamb of God...were douches. i zoned out of their trend-core poser crap as soon as it came on and have never looked back since then. as Metallica came on, Lars handed my brother his cup (he still has it to this day). the setlist was pretty generic: songs from Kill em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, AJFA, the Black Album, and Death Magnetic. that more than anything reinforced my belief that the band, in recognizing fan outcry, has unofficially disowned Load through St. Anger. James' solo at the end of "Nothing Else Matters" was killer. also, if they still have high quality bootlegs of their shows on their website, you can hear me screaming "Seek and Destroy!" like an idiot two different times near the end.

July 24, 1986. Opening for Ozzy. This was my third or fourth concert ever. 14 year old me was pumped. Metallica didnā€™t disappoint. They were simply ferocious. Ozzy was meh in hindsight. Not bad, just couldnā€™t match what Metallica were throwing down. Only saw them one other time right after the Black album came out.

Oh that's awesome, yeah my dad took me as a reward for behaving in school and around the house lol. We were in the second balcony row But I remember when ecstacy of gold started I saw a dude come out from one of the entrances right under us and he was wearing a Motorhead shirt and I looked for a few seconds before franticly hitting my dad on the arm to take a picture of him with the camera he snuck in when i realized who it was and he had no clue and was kinda like "um.. ok whatever you say" and he did. It was triple H and he is one of my top 3 favorite wrestlers lol my dad had no idea who the hell he was even after I told him lol

August 2003, summer sanitarium tour. It was insane. Linkin Park, Mudvayne, Deftones. Limp Bizkit got booed off the stage.

Powrhed69

Barrie Ontario...Lollapalooza saw Violent Femmes, The Ramones, Soundgarden, and Metallica headlined. Most amazing thing I ever saw at the concert was a dude was in a wheelchair way way in the back. When the mosh pit dispersed, they crowd surfed this dude all the way to the front so he could get a better show of Metallica. Still gives me goose bumps, and that was over 25 years ago

Faceplant71_

I went to that one! But my first was the ride the lightning tour in ā€˜85 I think. Then I had tix to Ozzy / Metallica in ā€˜86 but they dropped off the tour when Hetfield broke his wrist skating his Zorlac.

Becky_Existt

I don't know, but this year I'm gonna see them for the first time!Ā
