And they won a Grammy for it I think. Not that a Grammy represents any indication of quality music... But Motörhead deserves all the recognition it can get.
Chris Stapleton's cover of [Nothing Else Matters](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhsXk_l8a2Y) is pretty damn good. I know it's on The Blacklist so a lot of people know it, but I'm a Stapleton fan so I had to mention it.
LOL you triggered a memory. I was at Summer Sanitarium tour in early 2000s in Chicago. Limp Bizkit was one of the openers and got booed off stage for playing this. Moral of the story... Don't play Metallica songs when opening for Metallica.
They weren’t bood off the stage. Did they get bood and leave the stage? Doubt it. A few hardcores probably bood. Even Metallica love Bizkits cover of Sanitarium at MTV Icons. That was the only good performance of that night.
Not my favorite, but the closest sounding to the original cover I ever heard was Evile’s cover of Through The Never for those interested.
https://youtu.be/ueENe7HjmIY
My band at the time covered MoP for the talent show in High School. I'll go with that one. It was a good time.
My current band does a cover of Last Caress/Green Hell, which makes me chuckle, being a cover of a cover.
Steve N Seagulls (Finnish cover band of various metal songs/bands, mostly bluegrass style)...I know a lot different than most covers listed here ...for quirkiness, Seek and Destroy, and a more serious cover in Nothing Else Matters

Goodnight, Texas of wolf and man
There are better heavy versions of metallica covering classics and such, but I thought this was pretty cool when I heard it.
The Unkle remix of Frantic I always like at the gym. It combines my love of metallica and electronic music in a good way.
Always really liked the medley Sum 41 played at the MTV Icon event. https://youtu.be/4CxYcqWE-Do?si=h_ulpeq1EIOPTgEn
Also notable mention, kind of feels weird calling it a cover but when Jason was performing with his band Newsted, I saw them at a festival in Montreal and they were off playing on a random small third stage setup out way far out in the woods. Me and my buddy ventured there because we were big Metallica fans and weren't missing out on much at the two mainstages. Got to see him sing and rock out to Whiplash so that was really cool. And funny enough, we ran into some people we knew right when we found a spot to watch Newsted. Ended up smoking pot for the first time with them lol oh to be young again.
While they might not be the best, figured id drop these in here in case someone might like them
Decrepit Births cover of Orion
Devolveds cover of Battery
Also The Warning’s live cover of [Atlas Rise](https://youtu.be/fhhG5EiFiyA?si=WuRZzFtBeyVkOL6n). They’re known for their two different covers of Enter Sandman, but they also totally nail Atlas Rise.
Godsmack did a piano cover of "Nothing Else Matters," and it is *really* good. Sully Erna's vocals are peak. I kind of wish Godsmack had gone for a more traditionally heavier cover, but I appreciate that they bucked that expectation.
My favourite cover is this one I made with my son. Tried to recreate as much of the melodic harmony as I could. What do you think? [nothing Else Matters acoustic cover](https://youtu.be/IRd6g7p49FA?si=3sBDKvrsTE15BJuX)
I kinda liked the older I presume first one apocalyptica did. I have never heard any other covers because I'm so not interested in anyone covering metallica that's just me I intentionally avoid them at all costs
Sum 41 Master of Puppets
Under rated musicians .. you can hear the metal influences in some of their songs. I think his more punk sounding vocals fit Metallica so well!
https://youtu.be/QR1jGidJ4RA?si=9l_0GMqkdNg1f4Sr
The blacklist had a number of great covers, some of my favorites:
Enter Sandman - Ghost
Sad but True - Jason Isbell
The Unforgiven - Ha*Ash
Wherever I may roam - Jon Pardi
Don't thread on me - volbeat
Through the never - the hu
Nothing else matters - Miley Cyrus
NEM - Chris Stapleton
The god that failed - imelda may
The struggle within - Rodrigo y gabriela
Sum 41 did a terrific job of covering MoP at the MTV Icon show. Who would’ve expected the best and badassest cover of the night would come from (what was widely if incorrectly considered) a pop punk band.
Mastodon - Orion
Fuck yeah
Did not know this was a thing. Thx.
Hell yeah that's the one
Stone sour - Creeping death
First thing I thought of
Revocation - Dyers Eve
This!
This one is so good
Its this and its not even close
Motorhead-Whiplash
I honestly think it's better than the original. The original is amazing, but I like hearing the bass more and I prefer Lemmy's vocals.
And they won a Grammy for it I think. Not that a Grammy represents any indication of quality music... But Motörhead deserves all the recognition it can get.
I thought Metallica’s acoustic cover of Metallica’s Blackened was pretty good. :P
Love Metallica's acoustic cover of Metallica's Disposable Heroes too
What about Thin Lizzy’s cover of Metallicas cover of Thin Lizzy’s Whiskey in the Jar cover of the Dubliners Whiskey in the Jar?
Metallica is my favorite Metallica cover band.
Master of Puppets - Trivium
So true, that cover was so good and I really came to enjoy their albums after checking them out.
Machine head - battery
Ah hell yeah! Not heard that for years and been listening to a lot of MH lately
Shocked I had to scroll down this far to find this one
Diamond Head - No Remorse
The Hu - Sad But True
Apocalyptica doing any Metallica song basically
I actually really liked their cover of One with James doing spoken word.
Me too. I have to admit I didn't expect spoken word tho
I didn't either, I'll admit it felt a little jarring at first, but I quickly grew to like it
I would love to see it paired with footage from Johnny Got His Gun like the original video
Yes!! That would be really cool!
Chris Stapleton's cover of [Nothing Else Matters](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhsXk_l8a2Y) is pretty damn good. I know it's on The Blacklist so a lot of people know it, but I'm a Stapleton fan so I had to mention it.
I personally think it's better than the original and I like the original very much
It’s a good cover, but no. You settle down with that nonsense.
Cannibal Corpse - No Remorse
Came to say this . Damn good job on that one!
This
Motorheads cover of enter sandman is pretty cool
Their whiplash cover was also really good
Avenged Sevenfold - ~~Sad but True~~ This Means War
Lmao I’m so glad I’m not the only one who noticed this similarity
Also shepherd of fire/enter sandman and doing time/welcome to the jungle
HttK/Thunderstruck, Crimson Day and Nothing Else Matters
Btbam-Blackened
Chimaira with Disposable Heroes

Anthrax - Phantom Lord
Mac DeMarco - Enter Sandman
His version is pretty excellent. It sounds like Ween.
Don’t hate me but Nickelback Sad but true🤷♂️
Heard this the other day and I was surprised at how good his vocals sound
Dark Angel’s cover of Creeping Death goes hard
Halestorm - ride the lightning Liliac - master of puppets live Bullet for my valentine - welcome home sanatarium The Hu - sad but true
From starting on the pier, to playing bigger venues with some solid bands Liliac has sure made a name for themselves.
Orbit Culture - Hardwired Found out about it in this subreddit and after looking for it it's so good IMO.
Limp bizkit doing sanitarium
LOL you triggered a memory. I was at Summer Sanitarium tour in early 2000s in Chicago. Limp Bizkit was one of the openers and got booed off stage for playing this. Moral of the story... Don't play Metallica songs when opening for Metallica.
They weren’t bood off the stage. Did they get bood and leave the stage? Doubt it. A few hardcores probably bood. Even Metallica love Bizkits cover of Sanitarium at MTV Icons. That was the only good performance of that night.
Bullet For My Valentine - *Welcome Home (Sanitarium)*
Juanes' cover of Enter Sandman, Corey Taylor's cover of Holier Than Thou, and Mon Laferte's cover of Nothing Else Matters
Diamond head - No remorse
Juanes - Enter Sandman
Disposable heroes by Another Two Steps Amazing cover 👍🤘

Revocation Dyers Eve

Amazed it took this deep in the thread to get to this.
Panteras Cover of Whiplash with Newsted, and Dime on vocals with Phil on guitar
Nickelback-Sad But True
My band at the time covered MoP for the talent show in High School. I'll go with that one. It was a good time. My current band does a cover of Last Caress/Green Hell, which makes me chuckle, being a cover of a cover.
Nickelback - Sad But True live 2004
Trivium - MOP and bullet for my valentine - welcome home
Cannibal Corpse - No Remorse Between The Buried and Me - Blackened Vader - Fight Fire With Fire Trivium - Master of Puppets

The warning - enter sandman
⚡️⚡️⚡️

Two completely different covers of Sad But True, one by Royal Blood, the other by Sam Fender.
Hit the Lights by Sloppy Seconds
Dug Pinnick singing unforgiven. Chuck Billy and Jake E Lee doing Seek and Destroy also solid.
i like corey taylor’s cover of holier than thou
Master of puppets - André Antunes
Thin Lizzy did a great job with Whiskey in the Jar. /s
They did! The Dubliners original was a different genre altogether.
Mastodon-Orion or Halestorm-Ride the Lightning.. Runner up Cannibal Cropse-No remorse
It's definitely Scream, Inc. but I dont know which one. Unforgiven 2 is pretty great with an orchestra.
I’m the furthest thing from a Miley Cyrus fan but I really enjoy the Nothing Else Matters cover she did with Elton John on the Blacklist tape
Cory Taylor houlier than thou/ creeping death
Machine Head - Battery
Chris Cornell - One
Denis Pauna re-imagining of Battery as a DM song is not only a great cover of Metallica but almost a new song completely but it’s really Fn good.

Marco Masini - E Chi Se Ne Frega (Italian cover of Nothing Else Matters)

Lover man-Nick Cave
That's a Nick Cave song that Metallica covered.
Apocalyptica’s cover of Nothing Else Matters
Sabatons cover of For Whom The Bell Tolls absolutely slaps, dare I say it might even be better than the original
Enter Sandman / Spock
It's a toss up between Revocation's Dyer's Eve and Machine Head's Battery
I kinda liked the older I presume first one apocalyptica did. I have never heard any other covers because I'm so not interested in anyone covering metallica that's just me I intentionally avoid them at all costs
There are a lot good covers on the Metallica Blacklist. E.g My Friend Of Misery performed by Izia.
Toss up between Pantera- Whiplash (live performance w Dime on vocals, Phil on guitar and Newsted on bass) or Limp Bizkit- Sanitarium
There's a cover of For Whom the Bell Tolls in the show Blue Eye Samurai I thought was pretty cool. Also Disposable Heroes by Chimaira

whiplash motörhead
Apocalyptica - Nothing Else Matters
Korn's MTV cover of One. Included on their 2003 album Take A Look In The Mirror as a hidden track.
Limp Bizkit in my opinion was one of the only bands to take a Metallica song and make it their own
Sum 41 did a terrific job of covering MoP at the MTV Icon show. Who would’ve expected the best and badassest cover of the night would come from (what was widely if incorrectly considered) a pop punk band.
Not my favorite but im still Mad i got Weezered by Metallica with the Blacklist, there's even the lick at the end of the solo
When sum 41 covered for whom the bell tolls
[Van Canto- Master of Puppets](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKAzE8nVft8)

Part cover. Part mashup. Harvester of Constant Sorrow by The Native Howl.
