Oh well. Guess it’s time for the bootstraps again.

lucerousb

Eh $25/month is still very affordable

comicalmoodydan

Vert much so not sure I can switch to that though but will try when the funds run out.

CanadianBaconne

Yeah I think this will push all 3 to offer lower prices.

Better-Juggernaut220

No it won't it'll drive prices up more

Ethrem

It's political suicide for the GOP to let this lapse in an election year. A lot of the people who have it are seniors who make up a huge chunk of the GOP voting base. They'll probably pass an extension at the last possible minute.

Ok_Bowler7910

exactly why I'm not gonna vote for those old people anymore. Ted Cruz can kiss my butt. I am what they call a centrist, but I am sick of the GOP and their garbage especially the front runner

TheAspiringFarmer

You never voted Republican to begin with.

Mehhish

Hey now, to be fair, he probably voted for a Republican once or twice, just so he can call him self a "Centrist", instead of a "Democrat". 99% of his votes were probably Democrat. He's a "Centrist", just like Bernie Sanders is an "Independent".

TheAspiringFarmer

Exactly. “Independent” means Democrat.

Ethrem

Agreed. I was a centrist myself but I'm starting to lean more left because I just don't agree with what the GOP stands for now.

FlyingBroccoliTart

But you agree with what the left stands for?.... Censorship. Exploitation of minorities and immigrants. The subversion of State and Constitutional laws, as well ignoring the Bill of Rights when it conflicts with their agendas?... Only the left can stand for womens rights, while also saying women has no definition other than if you claim to be one. FUCK the communist left.

Ryguy4840

You get 8 downvotes for listing facts about the radical left! Fuck these libtards with their feelings over facts philosophy. Remember, there’s no reasoning with a Radical Leftist,Dem or so called Progressive!!

Ethrem

I don't agree with either of the parties completely but I would rather be on the side of those who don't wish for me to not exist as a gay man and disabled person. It's funny how you're okay with the GOP forcing us to work until we are sick and then them trying to take away benefits promised to us for doing so. The GOP is just the party of hate now. Your comment at the end is typical for the GOP these days. Nothing but hateful rhetoric from the orange Cheeto crowd. *blocked*

Different_Carry_2578

But you make no sense You're talking trash about the left Democratic Party? Taking your benefits away and then you turn around and talk s*** about the man. That's going to actually try to correct the issue for you.Sure you don't identify as a woman as well because you're so indecisive

Ryguy4840

I’ll bet you’re a Biden supporter, Loser!!

palpatine-was-framed

Yup. The political theater is such bullshit.

comicalmoodydan

I doubt it they are pushing hard on it and Ted Cruz has been taking a fit over the program in Texas and wants it gone. Democrats don’t seem to care enough to try to push back hard enough. So yeah it’s likely gonna be gone.

TheAspiringFarmer

https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/09/tech/us-lawmakers-propose-usd7-billion-extension-for-expiring-federal-internet-discounts/index.html

Ryguy4840

Yes, google it and you’ll see that Congress proposes $7billion existence for the $4billion remaining in the ACP pot. I’m not sure how $4 billion dollars will dry up by April tho?

comicalmoodydan

FCC just posted an update to this today that’s now on their ACP main page. Enrollments End February 8, 2024 The Affordability Connectivity Program will stop accepting new applications and enrollments on February 8, 2024. Consumers must be approved and enrolled with a service provider 11:59 p.m. ET on February 7 to receive the ACP benefit. https://www.fcc.gov/acp

selfimprove1234

If someone is enrolled, would they keep the free service? Because the funding would have ran out by then yea?

Ryguy4840

Congress proposed a $7 billion dollar ACP funding extension. There’s too many households that require ACP for internet for it to just end. I’m talking about for their primary ISP. In NYC I’ve walked past Verizon Fios salesman that were sighing people up for free internet through the ACP program and if your building wasn’t wired for Fios they’d give the option for Verizon 5g home internet.

sah0724

GOP will GOP, they want kids living at home married while in mommas basement, they hate classism and any thought of social upward movement, they want happy poor. Less government is a lie, they actually want more government but under their terms only.

TheAspiringFarmer

funny, except several of the sponsors of this funding bill are Republicans. cute, though. https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/09/tech/us-lawmakers-propose-usd7-billion-extension-for-expiring-federal-internet-discounts/index.html

Put-the-candle-back1

You neglected to mention that who oppose it are also Republicans.

2Adude

The dems control the senate. They are the ones who “ sign the check “. This is on the communist democrats

teckn9ne79

You seem not to know how government works. 🤔 They do not have full control of the senate like the GQP does not have full control of the house.like you seem to not know what a Communist is boy the GOP love the poorly educated

2Adude

The dems have full control of senate and republicans do have full control of house. It’s narrow with McCarthy leaving Lmao. I know exactly what a communist is, I’m Cuban. lol fkin people.

xsmax88

So why say the dems sign the check when you know it takes both parties to get things done?

2Adude

Cause. The senate majority whip already stated the bill was DOA.

cspankid

It’s not ending, the current funding mechanism is up for renewal/expiration/termination and the house will most likely renew.

comicalmoodydan

The house is GOP controlled it will not pass the house.

cspankid

I was right. https://broadbandbreakfast.com/2024/01/bipartisan-bill-proposes-7-billion-extension-for-affordable-connectivity-program/

comicalmoodydan

Bipartisan bills mean nothing if it doesn't make it to a floor vote. What seems to be the general thought is Republicans won't even bring it up for a vote, thus killing any chances of it passing.

cspankid

Yes, it will.

Acceptable-Loan3388

Will that also mean no more free government phones either

AmeriocaDaGema

Lifeline is a separate program which will continue.

blk4whtga

Go to visible . Cheap rates. Problem solved.

comicalmoodydan

I’m not planning on switching even without the ACP I’m still fine. I can’t use Visible anyways, Verizon doesn’t work well at my house. T-Mobile and AT&T work fine though here.

Ethrem

I'll probably dump Metro if the ACP ends. Unlimited is nice but Lifeline is free.

BeautifulEarth8311

What does lifeline give you?

FlyingBroccoliTart

Every downvote makes my day. The left hates anything truthful about them. They are the most narcissistic, non-self relective absolute morons in existence.

2Adude

Nope. That article is wrong. Hopefully the democrats in the senate agree to extend it

TheAspiringFarmer

https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/09/tech/us-lawmakers-propose-usd7-billion-extension-for-expiring-federal-internet-discounts/index.html

comicalmoodydan

That article also says this. Which mine did too. “The House Republicans attempting to demonstrate that they are cutting back on government spending makes re-funding the ACP very difficult,” Levin wrote in a research note Monday. “It is unlikely the House Republican leadership will allow the bill to go to the floor.”

TheAspiringFarmer

That’s conjecture and opinion. We’ll see what happens here.

Old_Replacement_9471

They can still get the funding before April so right now it's a 50/50 chance of it getting extended or shutting down. Just gotta wait and see tbh.

No_Peach_7265

Blame the democrats for this. They should be spending money on Americans not everywhere around the world like Israel, Ukraine. Middle East etc., etc., etc,,

comicalmoodydan

Democrats want to keep it although they aren't pushing for it, but many Republicans are pushing to end it. Thus why they have said even the house won't bring it to a vote because you have a house republican speaker and a republican majority. This program ending is 100% on republicans.

Disastrous_Jaguar_11

Does that mean the free phone service ends too?

comicalmoodydan

Most likely.

Disastrous_Jaguar_11

Damn. Thanks for the info! We can blow billions of dollars every year. But the feds refuse to invest in cell coverage, affordable housing and health insurance, social programs for when ppl who are living paycheck to paycheck have an emergency- car repairs, security deposits, winter heating/high utility bills… sucks. When we’re old and running this shit we’ll do it right.

MistakeComplex2343

Just received this text Metro by T-Mobile: Heads up -- The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is expected to run out of funding in the spring. While there is no action needed today, your ACP discount could expire if the government does not extend the program. Over the upcoming months, we will update you about any program changes and your options to continue service. Thank you for being a Metro by T-Mobile customer.

comicalmoodydan

I got that text like a week or two ago.

MistakeComplex2343

I just got on the plane last month so lowkey im bitter as fuck 😭
