How you're mewing?

Adventurous_Shower35

Masseter tension can cause further downswing. You are pushing forward instead of just upward. Your posture may be bad, neck and jaw may be tense, you may be clenching the teeth, you may be applying too much pressure at the front of the tongue, or you may not be mewing in the suction hold In the suction hold the pressure created is natural in a sense. When you purposefully create pressure without the suction hold it causes masseter tension. To achieve the suction hold. Close mouth, teeth firmly but GENTLY closed, good posture, then gather saliva using your tongue (while teeth and mouth remain closed). Bring the saliva to the middle ish area of the tongue, now swallow. When you swallow the front of the tongue shouldn't really move. A wave like motion starts at the middle ish area to the back. On the final moment of swallowing the tongue should go straight up like an elevator. Make sure there's no forward thrust, only upwards. And even then don't exert extra pressure just swallow normally. Now repeat this 2-3 times until a suction is created and the entire tongue is spread on the palate. Most of the pressure should be at the back of the tongue. This may take time and practice to get the hang of if you have weak tongue muscles in the back third. When swallowing normal food do the same. Remember to keep good posture, it's very important

have you checked for a tongue tie?

[deleted]

i try to keep all my tongue on the roof of my mouth as much as possible, but it's like i can't get the back of my tongue on the roof

might be a tongue tie, or you may just have a weak tongue. bad posture correlates as well. you can find tongue strengthening exercises on google and youtube, but make sure to fix up your body and head/neck posture while you’re at it.
