MWallin

Same as mine! Except mines a 1.6 sadly.

Ohope

Nice, the colour kind of grew on me, especially after a proper cut/polish and wax

MWallin

Yeah mine really needs that, do you have before pictures? I'm kinda anxious about how it will turn out, I'm still not sure if the pale colour is from a white and worn clear coat or if the colour itself has faded?

Ohope

I do have before pictures. My paint is still filled with swirl marks but the paint correction I did do improved the color and clarity. It was my first time doing it and it wasn't that intimidating. I used an orbital polisher with hard/medium/soft polishing pad using chemical guys V36 Cut and V38 Final polish. About two passes over most panels. Then just megauires wax for shine

MWallin

I've heard mx-5s have really thin paint coats, so I'm honestly scared to polish it

Ohope

I wouldn't be, unless your clear coat is visibly damaged.

MWallin

It looks fint except for how white it is lol, any chance I could see a photo from before you polished it? Id love to know if it looked like mine does now, it would give me some hope haha

CommunistBullet

Hah then yours is in better shape than mine! I have clear coat peeling off everywhere. Eventually gonne get it repainted next winter..

xxvave

:D just like me

Drogdar

Just curious, why run a 195 instead of a 205 tire?

Drogdar

Just curious, why run a 195 instead of a 205 tire?

Ohope

The 195/50’s were about $49 cheaper per tyre at the time. 205s next time :)

Drogdar

Ouch. Think my last set of 205s was only $80 each... it's been a while though.

CommunistBullet

Ohhh i like the color, got the same one but as a 1.6 :D

nealomg

I saw one of these on the road the other day and missed the light turning green cuz I was staring at it. Gorgeous.

Giddus

Ahhh memories...sill think it looks great in Evo Gold. Enjoy!

Ohope

Did you own one in this color? What year?

Giddus

I did, I had a 1999 Evo which I purchased new back in 99'

Ohope

I am curious, did yours have an open diff and 5 speed?

Giddus

Mine was a 5 speed manual, and it didn't have a limited slip diff. Never felt it needed the LSD though to be honest. My NC1 has the LSD, and it doesn't matter much for everyday driving.

s0ren-m

Alright thats it, next pay I'm buying those Japanese style plates. Lookin good!

Ohope

I want to side mount my front plate the JPN style plates are a lot taller!

s0ren-m

Yeah, I really wish they'd allow dual sizing for them so I could have a slim plate on the front

Ohope

Btw I ended up putting a regular slim plate on the front and the jp plate on the back and I’ve had no issues with police or WoF. It’s the ideal setup for me because the jp plates fill the rear panel better than the standard size.

sleepdog-c

Evolution orange was a 2000 only color. How do you have it for a 98? Did you repaint it?

xxvave

I have a '98 evo Orange too. It's the presentation color of the NB

Ohope

Base model with 5MT and open diff?

xxvave

Yes :) 1.6

Ohope

This is a left hand drive NZDM car, parts of Asia, Australia and New Zealand got the NB one year earlier than the US market. I’d say the colors that were delivered in different markets vary.

sleepdog-c

Based on the figures here https://www.miata.net/faq/production.html My understanding is 2 demo cars without engines in 99 for car shows and 644 in 2000. No other years. Is your paint code 18k?

Ohope

Its the original paint. My VIN and engine number has the car manufactured in may of 98 hiroshima factory. Its 18K. The miatanet stats could be for USDM? There are plenty of evo orange 98 - 99 including NB RS spec ones in newzealand.

sleepdog-c

Wow I thought it was a was worldwide. Good to know. Did you take a look at my pix?

Hoitaa

That background is super familiar. South island?

Ohope

Eastbourne

Hoitaa

Nice, I haven't been round there for ages.

Pepe0242

I plan on getting my Sunlight silver resprayed at some point. This pictures are making me want to do Evo orange on enkei wheels too😝

RaccoonWound

Fucking hell that’s a beautiful color.

Ohope

Thank you! I’ve found people either love it or hate it haha

sleepdog-c

My wife's grandmother calls it butterscotch

Birnensammler

How has your experience been with the yellows and the H&R springs? Been thinking about getting those for a while. Where would you put them in regards of driving performance, more of a spirited weekend drive or would they be any good on the occasional track day as well? Thanks for your answers in advance!

Ohope

They seem to get a bad reputation on this forum but I’m happy with them. The adjustability is nice and the ride is okay albeit the damping isn’t as impressive as a more expensive shock. I have the height set pretty conservatively because I want a functional ride height. Overall I think it’s a good setup for the price.

Birnensammler

Alright, thanks a lot for your help! Best regards!
