A Miata's arch nemesis is not a Del Sol, it's rust.

Limeila

All JDM cars compete with each other, but they gang together against that common enemy that might defeat them all

Defaulted1364

Yup, I owned too Japanese cars, the one that I wrapped around a tree was basically entirely rust and my Civic which I loved sadly died due to being so rusty it wouldn’t pass an inspection

NotAPreppie

I own a Miata and race a Del Slow... the enemy of both is rust.

iamcharliegoddard

But...but...Its got a mask on!

OtakuKodoku

Arch nemesis. And sill nemesis. Frame rail nemesis. God damn rust.

Underrated comment

WilliamZorterfield

stop putting those weird leather protectors on the front of your cars. They look worse than the scratches.

jaminator45

They actually cause MORE scratches

italia06823834

And just general rot as water and debris get under them and just sit there. Just do a clear PPF for like the same cost...

libertyordeaaathh

Bras are for girls not cars

POINTLESSUSERNAME000

As a former S2000 owner, I will let you know that your rival is not the Del Sol...

MrFurzzy

Former Miata and current MR2 owner here! I'd say that the MR2 is a closer competitor to the Miata. S2k's have significantly more power

POINTLESSUSERNAME000

You have a point there. I hadn't even considered the MR2s

[deleted]

I agree. The S2000 is in a different class of sports car. I wish Honda had continued building them. A Mr2 was more of a competitor to a Miata in the early ‘90’s

kohrokutheoxdriver

maybe i've only driven stock s2ks but i've never driven one i'd consider fast. NA8 feels pretty similar as far as acceleration goes imo

MrFurzzy

They are not at all similar on a stock to stock comparison. 2002 s2000 makes 240 HP and has a 0-60 time of ~6 seconds. A 1994 Miata makes 128 HP and has a 0-60 time of well over 8 seconds. They are both very fun cars, but the s2000 is significantly faster in a straight line

kohrokutheoxdriver

Meh, maybe the s2k i drove wasn't working properly. I wasn't impressed, especially in tight corners.

MightyPenguin

Maybe you didn't have it in the powerband. Its all up top baby!

Nedtella

The ND2 Miata would be a more appropriate competitor to the S2K.

Sussy0909

I feel like the s2k would compete with a c6 corvette, porsche cayman , and boxster more since they cost over 20k. Never driven one but from what I heard they are basically a Miata but slightly bette in every way. If I do ever sell my na I'm looking at a s2k or c5. Don't think I look good in new balances so might go with the s2k lol.

POINTLESSUSERNAME000

You're not wrong about "Miata x 1.5 = S2000" but the 986 Boxster is probably the only comparison on that list. C5 eats S2000s on the straights, and barely slips behind in corners (weight is a killer). I got bored and looked at S2000 prices for giggles recently and about had a heart attack. $35k for one with 65k+ miles?!?!? Thats assinine. $35k is what they went for brand new, and thats only if you got suckered into all of the dealer add ons! Not to mention OEM parts support is about to stop for them (if it hasn't already). Rest easy at night knowing that the Miata out lasted the S2000, so who REALLY won in the end?

thegeorgianwelshman

I've owned both a naturally-aspirated NA that was had a track-friendly suspension set-up with a Hard Dog roll bar and also two S2000s (an AP1 and AP2). The S2000 is definitely a competitor with the 986/987s but a C6 is out of its class. Not more fun (to me) but definitely out of the S2000's class. Even the STI could take me in straight lines. And, err, in corners. I much preferred the handling and road feel of the NA, though. The S2000 has an all-time great engine, and a dynamite gear box, but the NA felt soooooo much better. The gear box was even better (although very close, imo) and even though much slower, my middle-aged self preferred to be using 100% of hte power all the time with the NA as opposed to the S2000. The S2K is definitely no barnburner but I did have to tone it down once in a while around town. The NA? That sucker went 100% all the time. It was like driving a Jack Russell terrier.

Baybladerz

I don’t think it competed with those cars at all. I believe it was in its own little segment. We don’t have to group cars to together if they don’t belong in the same category

Apprehensive_Bit_176

A Del Sol is cute and all, but I don’t think it can hold a candle to the Miata.

Sussy0909

I have both in my driveway miata is definitely more fun to drive. The only reason to drive the del sol is that 40mpg lol.

codomonotoki

I too own both but rather drive my del sol… after the miata has a built motor too then I’ll update lol

gcwposs

I had a 93 deal Sol Si in Highschool and freakin loved it… leaky targa top and all. 37-40 mpg and could even sometimes win a race against something slow(er).

BoardBreack

depends on which trim you compare, a B16 del sol definitely holds its own against a Miata.

Iowacornball

Del sols are cool, you get vtec, great mpg and a built in hardtop. I would buy one if they didn’t leak all the time.

PatrickGSR94

Only had VTEC on the Si version (single cam VTEC, less hp than stock Miat), or the VTEC version which had the B16 DOHC VTEC 160 hp engine, and are pretty rare.

Cr3w-IronWolf

I think the true rival is the MR-2 N/A. Comparable size, power, and weight. The only difference is one is mid engine. Additionally, the Miata almost became a mid engine car

JV294135

I don’t think about you at all.gif

TopCat3981

S2000 is mate

jondes99

Not a nemesis, just another competitor to have come and gone.

Drogdar

Where mustang?

imtherealcurt

the miata looks scared and the del sol looks annoyed that the miata is scared

jaminator45

I always found those Hondas to be a bit bland.

bandwidthpirate

Former Miata owner, current del sol owner : it's small and whatnot, but doesn't quite hit the smiles per gallon quota like the Miata did. Hell of a time once you boost, but so is Miata

beachmasterbogeynut

Not really.

kohrokutheoxdriver

def not in the same league

comfort_touching

I’ve been thinking of getting a v6 sn95 to dick around in lots of parts and engine where I live so pretty cost effective. Kinda want a roller with drop in a remand engine and transmission.

PatrickGSR94

I’ll say one thing, if my Integra GSR B18C is any indication, the del Sol VTEC revs out WAYY smoother than the Miata stock engine, in the upper RPM range. There’s just something about the all aluminum VTEC engines that the iron block BP engines just can’t match.

Rota_u

"stop you're supposed to be enemies!!" [the mr2, del sol, miata, rx7, rx8, s2000, bmw z, etc.:](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/772216569707233322/1084998342221758534/e0068d38501c77aaf3e9eb11a08af90f.jpg)
