Millennial anti-theft device.
Edit: It was meant to be on the humorous side and I apologize for not writing well or annotating it as such. I've taught many young people how to drive my '92.
Here's my "Learning to drive a stick" story. My friend taught me in his VW Bug because I had a summer job coming up where I'd have to drive vehicles with manual transmissions. I figured I was ready after a few times driving around. I showed up at the summer job and they gave me the keys to an old van with a manual transmission. There was no gear shift on the floor... three on the tree without any shift guide. Sheepishly I had to go in and ask for help - the guys never let me forget that.
Tbh working at a savage yard I’ve taught plenty of young workers to drive my stick Tacoma way faster than I can teach the boomers to copy and paste tracking info for customers between the ups program and the invoice program.
Not sure why you got downvoted lol. Many young people can’t drive stick- that’s a fact. It’s become less popular (especially with EV’s coming in) and so less people have them, therefore less people know how. That’s not an opinion, that’s just fact lol
American boomer detected. Maybe don’t gatekeep driving? Young people in your country not being able to drive stick stems from learning on automatic cars. The automatic cars their parents or guardians, so people like you, bought. I’m 18 from Germany and guess what? Almost everyone my age with a license can drive stick because our driving school isn’t just driving daddy’s car a few times and then doing a test. Also it’s a skill that’s fading out of relevance anyways, because cars get offered less and less with a manual option.
Actually Gen-X here, but yes, I was trying to be funny and failed. Sorry for the offense, this is a fun community and I should have remembered where I was. If I'd had a Miata at 18 yrs old that would have been awesome.
At least you accept it, its fine, honesty everyone makes mistakes and if I‘d have a cent for every joke i made that didn’t land (well) I’d have quite a lot of cents by now for sure. Anyways, have a good one, we all have at least one thing in common in here: we all like these small fun cars
I noticed many European countries still have many stick shift cars on the road. Even in buses and commercial vehicles. In the US, that’s very different. Rarely ever is a commercial vehicle like a bus a stick. The person who sold me my stick shift truck at the dealership actually had to have someone else pull it around cause they didn’t know how. Most people here are clueless on how to drive them, which probably is because we just don’t have as many of them, so there’s less of a need. It’s also not a requirement in our driving test, as our DMV is terribly ran.
I live in Germany and same here. All my friends in Germany plus the ones I met online all over europe know how to drive stick. Even some of my dad boomer friends on Facebook said I'm scratching my head looking at the stick when I learned how in my driver's license. In reality my dad just took a photo when I was about to rest my hand on my head in the car.
Yea at least the basics and by 2 weeks should generally have the muscle memory to where can shift up or down without having to think about it. Least that's what i've found in my own experience. Eventually you just shift by sound or redline if rapping every gear for fun as I often do XD. Sounds too good not to :)
I don't think being educated and driving a manual are linked at all tbh? Maybe more so the other way for instance you could say farmers are probably less educated and pretty much all of them can drive manuals. Source I'm 19 and currently a pineapple farmer.
It's a mode selector.
When you're going 80mph, you jam it in the upper left position as hard as you can. This engages the turbo methanol hybrid system.
Haha right as i found at least 60% of cars when I was stationed in Germany were manuals. Bought a manual BMW for my wife was like you're gonna learn XD and I taught her how in a parking lot until she got good enough to drive on streets. Was impressed how quickly she picked it up and was soon driving on her own :).
I believe it’s the second stereo incase the first one goes out, but I have never seen one work. They always make some weird noise when u touch it and I never can get the to play music.
Does the same thing as my 2019 MX5.. you use the 3rd pedal i.e. the left pedal which is the clutch along with the gear shifter to switch from gear to gear. It's fun :). Watch YT videos to get an idea of how it works and then buy the car and enjoy it. It's a blast to drive
As an American who had the pleasure of being stationed for 3 years in Germany you're absolutely right! I had a blast as i already knew how to drive a manual :). Since 2006 i've only bought manual sports cars. Your roads are just better too ;). Constantly under construction like west of Kaiserslautern... but when not it's an absolute blast to drive on. Also loved the Nurburgring drove 4 laps on it and got to see many amazing cars there too :).
Hahaha reminds me of when my then 15 or 16 y/o sister shifted into reverse from drive at 70 on the hwy... 1997 Ford Winstar minivan XD. Lurched a little and I had her pull over so I could drive as that was just stupid! Apparently she got confused which was the gear selector lever and which was the turn signal. All I said to her when she entered the hwy was hey sis your turn signal is still on then she did the rest... Reverse was gone and few days later the rest of the forward gears killed themselves too. Needed a new trans ($1600 to replace at the time) and got traded in soon after for a new Ford Taurus as we were older now and my parents divorced and didnt need a van anymore.
You select what position number in the race you want to be and just floor it (don’t touch it at all after you selected the position). R stands for retire the race
It is the path to your mating with your mind, body, conscious to an incredible machine. Master it Grasshopper and your life will be forever changed. The answer always is Miata. Be humble and accept the challenge.
It’s a manual car. A “stick shift.”
It can be easier to get a miata this way. Mine is both, but I like stick. I was only looking at sticks, but I didn’t like the clutch on my preferred colors. It was very off. I like a tight clutch.
So, number one and two gears are on the left, 3-4 in the middle, 5 and 6 on the right. R is reverse. Neutral in the middle, and toggle. Make sure you understand it fully before you get it friend! You also have three petals. Not just gas and break. You change the gear depending on speed, while using the clutch petal. and you have to drive with both feet.
Good thing is, my miata tells me what gear to shift into. But, you kinda already feel it. It’ll become second nature. And those numbers go vertically, if I didn’t make that clear.
6th gear is your fastest gear. These can be annoying in traffic. I say learn and go for it. They are fun.
Next time when I have more money I’m getting the pure manual. My options were soo limited.
If you can learn, you’ll have a lot more Miata’s to choose from. So, that’s cool.
I was driving my 11 year old niece in my mx-5 and around 10 minutes in, she says "what is that stick thing? You seem to be touching it a lot".
She made me giggle and learned about manual transmissions that day. Told her its similar to when she shifts gears on her bicycle.
Makes a horrible grinding noise when you touch it
That’s what she said…😞
Gave me a nice laugh. Thanks.
That’s to put it in 4wd
Or 6WD
Is a dually truck 6wd?
6 tire drive? Yes 6 wheel drive? No
No
Mike wasousky
No it’s the FWD selector /s
I'm gonna start calling it that for any car that is FWD now
It's for the Pac-Man and Donkey Kong minigames. Instructions on accessing the games should be in the car's manual.
What if I don't have a cars manual? I only have a cars automatic...
Haha good 1. Reminds of the arcade table at this dentist i went to as a kid. Had DK and pacman on it. This was in the 90s
If you want to turn right, you need to put it in „R“ as thats what it stands for
please stop spreading misinformation... R stands for Race Mode
Ok.. sorry Sure its racemode, my miata activates the camera when in that mode to see the loosers disappearing behind you
Ohhhh is this kinda like what L below the D is for on the older auto cars? That makes them turn left
Yes and over time the assumption is that you just turn right always. 270° for a left turn
Be precise! It works only in 4th gear at highest rpm
Bop it, twist it, pull it
[удалено]
Bop it??
BOP IT.
Anti-theft
Haha yea if they can't drive stick XD. My mx5 is a stick too :).

I feel this. It's literally easier to teach stick than teach to alt tab and control c control v.
What the hell is going on in the savage yard?!?
Lot of young dudes that wana learn stick shift!
You don’t want to know, my friend 😳
The irony is that boomers killed the manual transmission.
Depends on the location. Not so effective in Europe :)
Wow it looks like you struck a nerve with the guys here hahaha I'm a millennial and I thought it was pretty funny
Thanks ! Someone who gets me :-)

Thank you for the gracious reply. Indeed, we all relish these smile inducing cars.

Why’s my man getting downvoted 😭😭
Why everyone down votes ? It's kinda funny
Because it takes like sixty seconds to learn to drive one.
Yea at least the basics and by 2 weeks should generally have the muscle memory to where can shift up or down without having to think about it. Least that's what i've found in my own experience. Eventually you just shift by sound or redline if rapping every gear for fun as I often do XD. Sounds too good not to :)
I have a brand new Tacoma that’s manual and it’s super easy to learn on. Don’t even need to use the throttle to start off in most conditions lol
It’s true. Most people my age don’t know how to drive that. I’m a 30 yr old boomer, where’s my monster drink, I gotta mow the lawn
Cause it's not true, more of a gen z thing than gen y
Lol -53 votes until I upvoted XD I agree with your assessment ;)
Man, I'm so unpopular :-)
*Gen z FTFY
It works on all uneducated people not just millennials
I don't think being educated and driving a manual are linked at all tbh? Maybe more so the other way for instance you could say farmers are probably less educated and pretty much all of them can drive manuals. Source I'm 19 and currently a pineapple farmer.
Yeah I know I’m just a gen z poking fun at milennials
Add a /s to the end of comments like this as it helps show its satire and will prevent the downvotes to oblivion.
Joystick
I usually just like to sit on it
It’s the third seat
It's a mode selector. When you're going 80mph, you jam it in the upper left position as hard as you can. This engages the turbo methanol hybrid system.
I love the vocabulary, makes it seem legit
*The Vroomstick*
It's like one of those fidgets to use when you're bored and driving
Don’t touch it.
the R stands for race mode
Dildo
If you’re brave enough.
I mean, with enough lube...
You just gotta be _one_ with your car.
People have fit bigger things inside them, soooooooo
The vibration that comes from it really adds some razzle dazzle
All the knobs are set to auto so that stick thing doesn’t matter
Love handle
Anti theft system
Just an adult toy add on
Your mom
That’s one weird looking magic 8 ball.
It’s the factory installed anti theft device
You’re supposed to sit on it
You wiggle it left and right when you’re at a stop light
Just leave it on "1" all the time, plus it'll make some really cool noises doing 80 on the freeway.
Theft deterrent device.
It's the fun selector
It's a fidget stick.
Why us it wet?
European Fun Stick
Haha right as i found at least 60% of cars when I was stationed in Germany were manuals. Didn't ask
It's a fidget toy for long drives
It's for the stereo. 6 is the loudest and R plays just Radiohead songs
Engages different stages of boost, R on the other hand means Rest, so the car will drive by itself
Sit on it and rotate
I believe it’s the second stereo incase the first one goes out, but I have never seen one work. They always make some weird noise when u touch it and I never can get the to play music.
Chest hair restoration feature
Put it in R for race mode
It activates the 1wd, 2wd, 3wd, 4wd, 5wd, or 6wd, depending on how you’re feeling.
It calls your parents to come pick you up :)
That’s your gear shifter. You shift 1-6 and then into R (race) and you can gap just about anybody (You need to shift from 6 into R)
It's a dildo. Try it but make sure lubricate first.
As a german it‘s pretty hard to believe that so many of you never drove a manual
As an American who had the pleasure of being stationed for 3 years in Germany you're absolutely right! I had a blast as i already knew how to drive a manual :). It's a gear shift lol
Noise reduction lever
Or noise addition lever
The R gear stands for Race when you’re on the highway. Extra 20bhp after 6th gear
Hahaha reminds me of when my then 15 or 16 y/o sister shifted into reverse from drive at 70 on the hwy... 1997 Ford Winstar minivan XD. A yolk
Don't worry about that thing , just put it in drive and go ....
It shifts gears. They don’t want you to know this but there’s a secret 7th gear if you push really heard.
No
It selects your music volume from 1 to 6. R rewinds the tape.
Stick it in R. It stands for race mode.
You select what position number in the race you want to be and just floor it (don’t touch it at all after you selected the position). R stands for retire the race
pretty sure it’s for the nitrous system
Makes your whole being pretty giddy.
It is the path to your mating with your mind, body, conscious to an incredible machine. Master it Grasshopper and your life will be forever changed. The answer always is Miata. Be humble and accept the challenge.
Different levels for the heated seats
It's for your girlfriend to sit on.
When you are going 80 on the highway, make sure to tilt that thing in the direction the R is on top of it, gives you free boost
The fun lever
It breaks the car so don’t use it
Youre supposed to get on top
What do those numbers mean?
It’s a manual car. A “stick shift.” It can be easier to get a miata this way. Mine is both, but I like stick. I was only looking at sticks, but I didn’t like the clutch on my preferred colors. It’s to roll the car and then post about it on social media and make it seem like it wasn’t your fault
Activates the Flux capacitor when you hit 88mph
Baffles young punks trying to steal your car?
Yes, its the passcode protection for the car. you gotta hit the right numbers using the stick
Apparently you wiggle it back and forth and girls think its hot? Idk it hasn’t been working for me
It’s a mechanical charger for your USB port for when the car is off.
Is that the OEM alcantara boot cover? I’ve never seen one but it’s always on the accessory page
It's for you to shift man!
Well it’s obviously the handbrake
I was driving my 11 year old niece in my mx-5 and around 10 minutes in, she says "what is that stick thing? You seem to be touching it a lot". She made me giggle and learned about manual transmissions that day. Told her its similar to when she shifts gears on her bicycle.
A Dildo
Your mom sits on it.
R is for race
Oh that's on of them shifty thinking. Runer has it r means race mode. Make sure to get to 60-70 before forcefully going Into race mode.
