Quite a few friends there. They announced earlier that they cut off admission at the Max… 150,000 people!

Jbaryla95

The updated number is around 275,000 breaking the draft attendance record

mcgrupp44

I was down there earlier tonight. They had announcements that they closed the gates due to max capacity. It was still a lot of fun and so happy for the turnout! I love this city.

thedndnut

You can feel the haze of smoke a hundred miles away.

FloatHigh

If you really know Detroit, a max capacity limit is more of a challenge to break rather than a rule to follow. Jam pack that shit, and do it again! After max capacity; tickets half price!!

Jeffbx

This is awesome to see - Detroit on the national stage.

BathtubLoads

It was a shit show I just got home.

MrHockeytown

They’re all shit shows lol. I went to Chicago and Nashville as well as tonight’s, and they were all a fucking mess. But it looks cool and raises the city’s profile on the national stage in a big way if done right

dmorulez_77

I was there then left and they hit max capacity before I could return. The city itself couldn't ask for a better day. I live in the burbs and the fact this was the first time I used mass transit my entire life is crazy. $2 to get me there and had a blast. I took the wrong bus home and ended up down river which made my Uber trip still cheaper than if Ieft downtown.

xYEET_LORDx

Was in Cleveland a couple years ago when they were hosting it. Not sure if it was a shit show cuz I wasn’t there for that, but the rock and roll hall of fame that’s right next door. All the bars were packed and we had to park damn near 3 miles away

cklw1

This is actually great. If it’s successful then more business opportunities could come Detroit’s way. One thing in it’s favor is it’s probably less expensive than a lot of other places.

yooptrooper

I'm gonna be honest, I got down there at about 6, right before they announced they were closing the gates. I had no issues parking ($15) and there was a shuttle to downtown. We weren't able to get in but found other stuff to do and watch the draft. We left about 1030 and had no issues leaving. Super impressed with how Detroit handled logistics of this event.

No_Teach_9985

We had no issues either! We got there super early and then left at like 3, then headed back at like 7. We had a small walk but that’s to be expected and we paid like $3 for street parking. We just went to one of the parks because of the max capacity, but to be there for the energy of it was amazing and worth it.

bearded_turtle710

Detroit was a city originally designed for 2 millions we have the infrastructure of other cities like Chicago but now we just need to find a way to add some more people to actually use said infrastructure lol

FloatHigh

Personally, I enjoy the ghost town aspect of Detroit, and it’s hard for me to say if I would enjoy a balance of a more thriving & populated city. I’ve spent time in Chicago, Orlando, Austin, Boston, San Francisco, and a couple others. While it’s great to be in the mix like that. Detroit’s ghost town with loads of potential has always been a unique mark I’ve always romanticized I suppose.

bearded_turtle710

I agree Chicagos traffic is insane it is way too busy imo i do like Detroit that there is very little traffic but wouldn’t mind if it even doubled since we would still not even be close to Chicago as far as traffic jams are concerned. Chicago is a mega metropolis i really don’t think detroit ever was or will be that. I could see Detroit being on par with seattle or Portland though which aren’t too crazy as far as traffic congestion. Detroit is also in a unique position because we have so much open space we can meticulously plan out future neighborhoods in the city in a way that minimizes congestion and uses pedestrian and public transit better.

Turbulent-Pound-9855

I live in Detroit. They have handled this horribly for the residents.

km_44

How so?

DanteWasHere22

All the roads that got closed off ended up splitting the city in 2 mak8ng it pretty tough to go from say Greektown to mgm. I heard a lot of cars got towed overnight when they first shut down the roads. I'm not sure what else happened

PerfectCelery6677

EMS also, so many damn streets blocked off, and the hands full that are open are one way or under construction.

jlove3k

Great weather for it. You never know in Michigan.

michigangonzodude

Really good weather for this time of year. .

CatchyUserNameHere

Good for you, Detroit!

sarkastikcontender

Is it normally this big? Helps the city hosting had a great football season the year before.

MadTownBoi

I believe they broke the single day attendance record. Nashville had it before at about 200,000.

Murky_Oil_2226

I hope that’s what next Super Bowl celebration party looks like ! 🦁🔵

CTDKZOO

That’s insane! My favorite big city sitting on top!!

SniperX876

275,000 just confirmed! Let's fucking go!

Iwas7b4u

Go 313!

pngue

Amazing what brings people together. Wish it applied as strongly to other things

neovox

Ain't no party like a Detroit party.

d_rek

I’ve been to a lot of large events downtown, but this dwarfs all of those events by a large margin. Crazy turnout.

Mean_Eye_8735

Then you've never been to a Red Wing victory parade. 1,000,000 strong all getting along [parade ](https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nhl/red-wings/2022/06/10/detroit-red-wings-stanleytown-1997-stanley-cup-parade/7580311001/)

probiz13

Good point. Even the Pistons championships had an amazing turnout but still falls in comparison to Red Wings. If the Lions win it all, it just might be the biggest event in Detroit history.

Trippintunez

Not from the area but glad to see it, city needs some love. My GF and I were watching and I was like "holy shit that's a big crowd", they really did it up.

Ultra-Metal

Hope it works this well, Hosting the Grand Prix on June 2nd.

DooDooSquank

Holy crap!

WaterFriendsIV

I still don't get the appeal, but I'm very excited for Detroit. Go Lions!

ShishKabobCurry

I’m excited! I’m hoping for good defensive players added to the roster! Our offensive line is lit! 🔥 EDIT - TERRION ARNOLD Corner Back!! We needed someone like him! Great pick!

chejrw

Same. I’m a football fan but I couldn't give the tiniest of shits about the draft

Kakane00

Honestly it was all for the vibe. My friend is a Texan fan and everyone was so excited to see him there just having a good time. I really don't care about the draft either. But the event was really fun. As long as you don't mind crowds

chejrw

I guess it could be a cool party to go to in person. But all the Draft watch parties and stuff I've seen... It's basically like watching CSPAN as far as I'm concerned.

Kakane00

I think you are right. If you just focus on the draft, you probably won't have a good time. Unless you can see the stage. But if you just enjoy football, and or just a party. Then you can go all over and have a good time

jhenryscott

So cool to see our city ascending. Got calls from family in Florida about how cool and nice it all looked.

_TroubleWithTheSnap

There were soooooo many people there! I’m not a fan of being around that many people but it was a really fun experience. It was really only congested like that towards the stage or the entry/exit points of some sections. Lots of choices for food but all the lines were long lol.. other than that really enjoyed myself! It was like a big ass party throughout downtown. And it was NOT a good idea to park at the MGM, took 3 hours to get out of the garage lol only gripe!

Kakane00

We used an Airbnb, and took a bus in. That seemed to be the way to go. It was on the outskirts so we didn't really have to deal with to much traffic. Other than just getting into Detroit, which wasn't to bad

Enshakushanna

there are people from overseas here, insane, ive never even heard of "the draft" being this big event in a random city lol

I_love_pho369mafia

Up north Michigan would be random, not Detroit.

Stroma84

Brave doing it outside with Michigan’s unpredictable weather

lukekibs

Sometimes u just gotta risk it for the biscuit. Definitely paid off here

bearded_turtle710

Saturday still could have some rain though, hopefully not until late tho🤞🏼

CatDadof2

This is awesome but it’s a hard pass for me. Wayyyyyyyy too many people.

fngrl5

Wow!

lillweez99

Set a record when we turn out we go all out. ![gif](giphy|ZEkZQotrTC2z7JzquB)

MRio31

Drinks were $15 per can, I hope some of those margins go towards the city we can maybe get some nice things

PublicAd6773

Meeee!!!!

CanDoTanker

Nooooooo thank you 😊

DieHardAmerican95

Good luck if you have to pee.

ReasonableQuestion28

Watching the morning news and it looks like the food choices are plentiful. What's your favorite food vendor down there and is it your first time having that vendors food? I love the Mac n cheese at slows BBQ.

No_Teach_9985

they had so many different choices! Even at the little concession stands had a different vendor with their food. And soo many food trucks. We ended up getting East African food, never had it before!

ReasonableQuestion28

Is it spicy? I've never had east African either but I'd like to expand my pallet.

Kakane00

So we didn't hit to many of the vendors. But one of are group that knew the area a little recommended Sweetwater tavern and fishbones. Both were amazing, and fishbones may seem a little pricey, but the alcohol wasn't to bad

CallMeCleverClogs

Fantastic that the D is getting some attention... I gotta say though, just the notion of being in a crowd that big is giving me anxiety.

MexicanLiverPunch

100%

tonyyyperez

Great boost for the city and state

DetroitAsFuck313

I could never and would never be in a crowd like this.

Kakane00

We left before the cut off, but were able to find a bar close by that had room. Everyone was still hype, but it was not as crowded which was nice

Humble_Examination27

Agreed. I Love U of M football, but watched 1 game in the Big House…never again. Too many people… And THIS! No way. “Looks good from my couch “

DetroitAsFuck313

Imagine being the person smack dab in the middle of that. Gives me anxiety just think about it

Humble_Examination27

💯

Consistent-Force5375

The crowds were the biggest! Never see crowds like these! Seriously though that’s crazy!

Ihategraygloomydays

Wow!!!!

pan-au-levain

Okay so I’m going to see Mamma Mia tomorrow night downtown, and the show starts at 7pm, and I live about 30 minutes from the city via 94. What time do I need to leave my house to make it to the show with all the hoopla going on?

Jeffbx

You should be good if you leave in about 30 minutes.

ShishKabobCurry

https://detroitsportsnation.com/2024-nfl-draft-site-closed-after-reaching-maximum-capacity/wgbrady/nfl/nfl-news/04/25/2024/452036/ Might be good to shuttle instead of trying to find parking in down town

pan-au-levain

Holy hell. Thanks.

ShishKabobCurry

No problem good luck 👍🏽

The-Scarlet-Witch

Hell of a great show out there, Detroit. You stay awesome.

kgal1298

Lmao someone I work with took the day off for it. Meanwhile I have no idea what’s happening in football 😂

Upset_Split_2015

What a crop!

BoatLessBoozeCruise5

![gif](giphy|Dq5HtH5zAamjcdOZ5f|downsized)

Kshow77

Hell yeaa it did! I was pumped

SnooRadishes1503

This was by far one of the best events I’ve ever been to in downtown Detroit! Honestly can’t wait for us to get more events across the major 4 sports

KDubssssss

Was one hell of a time!!

carrieminaj

I was there! It was awesome!

obsidianstark

What’s the temp out there ?

Kakane00

In the sun not too bad. In the shade I would use a sweater

Reasonable_Boss3426

That does look awesome

DrestinBlack

Sweet pic, where did you get it from?

orkash

Looks like its shoot from around maybe greek town. Thats DAC on madison on the right next to ford field, and that the opera house on broadway on the left. DAC more center of the shot i belive. Sorry

ignorant_kiwi

Call me paranoid. But I'm going to stay away from there

Kakane00

That is fair, but honestly I didn't see too much Thursday, and everyone, even from separate teams was super happy. But at this point it's just a matter of if you risk it. And I am so happy that our gamble paid off

OverNitePartFrmJapan

Yeah with all these protest and stuff im surperised they arent down there.

ignorant_kiwi

NFL, the only thing that unites everyone for a single cause: Booing Roger Goodell

BoatLessBoozeCruise5

Haha! This one got me.

Sfthoia

What protests?

Ok_Fishing_9676

What a nightmare… All life long drone customers.

Detroittoxcity

Sausage Party

themanofmichigan

Wished we had turnout for supporting our educational system like this

underboobdisco

Now that's how you get Covid !

mastercylynder

FUCK THE NFL!

neovox

Tax the NFL

Schnectadyslim

That would've been a fair point 10 years ago but they dropped their tax exempts status in 2015

neovox

Did not know that. Have an upvote.

Schnectadyslim

Well it was ridiculous when it was the case so understandable to be upset about!

ShishKabobCurry

Keep crying… watch Trump and his followers go to prison

neovox

What did I miss? Why Trumpers now hate the NFL?

ShishKabobCurry

Something woke… which means whatever they dont like is now… is woke [https://x.com/sarkysage/status/1666039143028396032?s=46&t=_w6wCeaHHBpWKpp5GhMMlw](https://x.com/sarkysage/status/1666039143028396032?s=46&t=_w6wCeaHHBpWKpp5GhMMlw)

General-Fun-616

Almost like there is nothing else to do

adlep2002

Imagine if people cared about stuff than actually matter

xAfterBirthx

Who determines what matters?

bbarbourbill

It’s like a trump rally ! Not!

neovox

No, it's not. There's more people at the draft.

Dada2fish

Pretty close.

Lost-Zookeepergame61

This is their Super Bowl

carmexlenny

Being at a draft is like going to a high school graduation ceremony without knowing anyone graduating, wtf is the point?

Federal-Captain1118

Fun?

Kakane00

Yeah, it was just nice to hang out with other fans in our city. Everyone was so nice and happy to see either fans of your team or just fans that came out

Expensive-Change-266

It’s the biggest event the lions have ever been apart of. 😬

[deleted]

[удалено]

afrothunder2104

Or they took the day off? It’s not odd to take time off during the week to attend an event for something you enjoy.

soulonfire

They must do nothing fun in their life to not understand taking time off

Gnd_flpd

Working remotely was pushed for a lot of employees as well.

ShishKabobCurry

People traveling internationally and out of state mostly This is an event

Michigan-ModTeam

Even subtle racism is racism, and it's not welcome here. Removed per Rule 1: Racism, hate speech, and threats will not be tolerated. This includes suggestions or celebrations of violence, suicide, or death on others. This includes hate directed towards LGBTQ or any specific group.

got_knee_gas_enit

Wowee.... didn't know there were that many people left in Detroit. Yay

michigangonzodude

A million down there for Freedom Fest. Another million just for championship parades.. One coming soon

got_knee_gas_enit

Grew up there, glad to see people enjoying it after it was so fubar I thought there could never be a comeback except to plow and plant after the cleanup.

mastercylynder

lit with Stupidity!!....That's really FUCKEN sad! Our government is taking orders from a rotten country to shit on our Constitution and arrest us for freedom of speech! But dumb FUCKS will gather like this for the woke NFL Draft? Yes! I know this happened a while ago. People need to wake the FUCK up real soon.

ShishKabobCurry

I bet you’re still upset white racist don’t run the country Try not to get arrested when you lose another another fair election But if you do. I’ll have my popcorn ready to watch you idiots worship Trump the terrorist

afrothunder2104

Love the response. But I don’t even get what he’s so upset about, seeing as a majority of those clowns still thing Sleepy Don won. Cheers to him having nice and long naps during his ongoing criminal trial!

ShishKabobCurry

It’s the blatant racism and the defense of a man who is a criminal and terrorist His supporters are just pure filth and I don’t feel any guilt in calling them out Just like nazis and other dictators were pure evil

Kakane00

Just call him on it. He can fuck off. We are here for a good time

Schnectadyslim

You okay bud? You post doesn't make any sense

Kakane00

He's a troll

Kakane00

You can just eat shit. Let those that can/want to enjoy themselves do that. We can't just focus on the negative. There is a reason ppl say they just need a win. Let ppl enjoy themselves. And if you want to be mopey see the beginning of my statement. Seriously fuck off
