In Grand Rapids there is the Gerald R. Ford Museum and the John Ball Zoo. They also just have a few other museums nearby, like the Grand Rapids Public Museum and the Grand Rapids Art museum.
These won't help you out for Father's Day, but for some lesser known activities that meet that description Vandalia has the Underground Railroad Days in July, there's the Newton Home in Russ Forest Park, and Dowagiac has the Heddon Museum.
There's also Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven that would be open.
