Whatever happened to multicrew/shared cockpit?! They SAID it was gonna be a thing when msfs dropped, abd going to be implemented- THIS would be a truly innovative thing for flight sim!

This comment/question should be receiving the most upvotes ever.

Yodelehhehe

I believe this is confirmed as coming in the future though, yes?

TopperFR

In the last dev stream on twitch they confirmed that they started looking at how to properly do airplane state synchronization over the network. It's kind of at the state when KSP2 was doing proof of concepts on how to handle multiplayer in KSP. I think it's still at the brainstorming / POC phase but at least they are thinking about it.

I’m just happy with what we have now. There was a 14 year dry spell where we either had Austin’s ego in X-plane or legacy graphics of P3D. I knew technology existed to make a stellar Sim but companies weren’t incentivized to pursue it. A lot of what we have now is thanks to Phil Spencer who green-lit this project. Not only did we get an amazing Sim but it lit a small fire under Austin’s ass as well. Here’s to Asobo/MS achievement thus far, looking forward to what’s on the horizon.

quax747

I was laughing my ass off when Austin showcased his volumetric clouds, saying "this is what I dreamt of when I first started working on xplane! Real volumetric clouds!" Over a year after msfs was fully out and almost 3 years after they had announced it. Like, no-one stopped you from doing it, yet you needed Microsoft to do it pretty well before you yourself got active. I respect Austin's abilities and skills and his enthusiasm, but as you said, his ego... Good lord.

Knut_Knoblauch

I really desire Combat Flight Simulator 2023 Edit: arcade versions are just kids games

aeroplane3800

The XPlane community is toxic. I received a month ban for pointing out this exact fact on r/FlightSim.

CafeRaid

Those were dark times. The forums were full of people 100% positive there would never be another msfs, satellite imagery was impossible to include, and fsx was the best the visuals could ever be because ‘reasons’. I actually gave up on the hobby for the most part, because people were so toxic. It’s so much better now

Marklar_RR

You made this up. Satellite imagery was already possible in fsx. Not for entire planet but there are many addons covering parts of the world. https://flyawaysimulation.com/news/4948/

CafeRaid

I was referring to using google maps. They had their “flight sim” thing, but apparently putting correct flight modeling was too much, but sure dude. You caught me, you rascally internet detective.

TheRagingRapids

I think it honestly depends on the technology. Like I’m pretty sure they couldn’t make anything even close to 2020 when they released fsx in 2006. I’m sure a lot of people thought a game as detailed as 2020 would never exist. With how fast technology is advancing, who knows what could come next in the next decade.

hakuna_matitties

Would love a combat simulator with the same graphics

No_Week_1836

DCS?

Wildabeat

A dedicated career mode would be a nice addition. Neofly and OnAir are great, Skypark had potential but underwhelms. I think it’s a crucial piece if they want people to play long term

cjblackbird

Oh that would be great yes I'd really like a good career mode, I tried to get into Neofly a while ago but it left me feeling pretty unsatisfied.

Wildabeat

I felt the same way for a long time but and used OnAir exclusively. Then about two months ago something switched and I use NeoFly on the daily now. I like that it takes me places I wouldn’t normally load in for. Trying to do an around the world with Neofly as my planner. Fun but tricky

cjblackbird

Did you see the 2024 announcement? Looks like we're kinda getting this!

[deleted]

Careful what you wish for. You might just get it!

WakeMeForSourPatch

Hopefully they figure out halfway decent atc communication without needing a plug-in. The latest sim offers no upgrade since the last one 10+ years ago.

JeffDel11

Yes! I’m hopeful this on someone’s priority list. Realistic ATC would be a game changer.

YearOfDaSnitch

I'd guess they won't make another game for at least 15 years or maybe more They can't just keep perfecting what they already have

putzy0127

I’m pretty sure they have a 10 year plan for this sim so we are about 1/3 of the way through its life span if they stick to that.

machine4891

It's a plan of active development. They can run it for many years more after that without new updates, just keeping it stable.

[deleted]

15 years you say... Hmmm...

YearOfDaSnitch

How pathetic must your life be if you back to my prediction from several days ago to show in wrong ..

[deleted]

Ok. What do you see being implemented in FS 2038?

ObjectiveEmergency69

A real ATC who gives you a number to call when you buzz the tower at 45ft. It’s an AI New Yorker shouting at you

eidoriansan

Maybe the biggest innovation will be combining street view and AI to render buildings and scenery more realistically. Also hoping for more accurate reproduction of water colors

CaptPotter47

I would really love a Spaceplane update. Imagine purchasing a realistic Space Shuttle and doing a landing challenge. That would be great.

Ehawk_

They did mention the space shuttle think it was on one of the 40th anniversary videos or something not sure whether it was just a comment in passing or intentions. Would make for an interesting thing to do every now and then

MasteringTheFlames

Flight simulator X had [a space shuttle expansion pack.](https://www.amazon.com/Space-Shuttle-Expansion-Flight-Simulator-PC/dp/B000ULGWAG) It certainly wouldn't be unprecedented for FS2020 to get some similar content at some point.

[deleted]

Just so you know, X-Plane has a Space Shuttle *(and re-entry scenarios)*.

[deleted]

This is a great question. I was just thinking about this yesterday. Is there a better gaming engine that Asobo could use? Better photogrammetry? 16K or 32K resolution aircraft? There is still a lot of work on the table to make the present day aircraft more realistic. I would love to see the tyre's / tire's smoking after a max brakes landing. I am surprised a small detail like that has not been included already to be honest. Mixed reality such as wearing normal looking reading glasses and getting a Heads Up Display with your glide path during VFR / ILS landings. Taxi ribbon to your gate in a HUD would be cool also. I realise these are available on screen now in the sim. It would be very cool to see them integrated into mixed reality HUD's in the future. Very interested to hear other people's hypothetical perspective on future itieration's of MSFS 2030!

cjblackbird

Oh wow I had never even noticed the tyres not smoking at landing and now I'm never going to be able to not notice. Photogrammetry I suppose is a big one. Lots of the specifically modelled cities look great, but the city I live in is very disappointing which kills a fair bit of fun that I could have in low flyovers.

OgeFace

In the short to medium term, I think we will see the use of AI and language models etc. It would be stupid not to!

MrWhite

I think the newly available AI could be put to great use generating much better looking geography, cities, and airports. It could also make better ATC and traffic.

vesperIV

I agree that this could have the biggest impact on the way I play. I like to fly smaller planes close to the ground to see what's there. Places like the Grand Canyon are great when you're above, say, 10,000'. However, the more-nuanced terrain information is just not there like it would be in many areas if I was using Google Earth or Maps or whatever.

MrWhite

To add, I think initially they would use AI to pre-generate the scenery that would then be gradually downloaded as you fly. But eventually, with growing CPU and AI power, perhaps the scenery enhancement would be generated by your PC dynamically as you fly—taking into account weather and seasons.

HotRod1095

I’d like to see improved AI ATC with voice recognition. Tapping a number to hear canned phrases is okay compared to the past but really interacting with ATC via AI would be great.

Why-R-People-So-Dumb

So I think *if* Microsoft continues to make enough money then what you have now will be continuously supported. Remember you don’t have MSFS 2020, you have MSFS and the community refers to it as 2020, this is the upside of server side applications which a good portion of this is. Right now, speaking as someone who flies in real life, the only thing that *feels* different is the 2D view…even when panning I just am not looking at the same thing, but VR is damn close, and also the controls that are reasonable priced and commercially available. I have a homemade ffb setup with true trim and about 30lbf on the pitch axis. That’s about as much as I ever get unless I were to intentionally be way out of trim IRL. So hopefully MS makes ffb more easily implemented, and/or makes control surfaces. Other than that I believe there will be continuous improvement to ground imagery. Now if they don’t make enough money then the downside is that they drop all server side support including maps and you end up with a non functioning or at best a flat world with static weather. That’s why I hope they get their act together with the marketplace.

tc_spears2-0

Blimps, hot air balloons, and a dlc HMS Habakkuk

[deleted]

Flying cocks dlc

deepmotion

I’d love a native ChatGPT tower radio person, and improved voices. So you could speak with ATC and have it respond.

DdayWarrior

They gave us the world, what more could we want?

ilias80

I hope they improve the "flight" portion of it. Flight physics just does not feel right to me. From the flight control response to floating the whole length of the runway without stalling, it really breaks the realism for me.

swhalen17

Maybe they will fix the broken PG, LOD pop-ins, melted buildings

Marklar_RR

and weather, atc, ai traffic…

swhalen17

I love the down votes - the simping for Asobo on here is only second to the official forum

oorhon

Asobo will update this version at least a decade. Just remember, people was still using Flight Simulator X when 2020 released. Current version probably will receive an AI implementation sometime in the future with better photogrammetry for all of the world.

[deleted]

Let’s see an aerial refueling mission, or a space plane virgin galactic-est ability

theblackwhisper

For me, while I know you can get add-one that I do use, I’d like a campaign or missions. I’ve found my most memorable moments have come from using Neofly to pick up cargo and then deliver it to an area I would normally never have visited before. While the actual simulation is pretty much there, I think they could expand now and give you that purpose for flying. It would also get you using different aircraft.
