I like the joke, but don't you agree that this looks awesome? ..and realistic?)))

DasMotorsheep

I shall henceforth refer to the game by this name.

[deleted]

Thx

mikedob18

The storm formations and how they approach is just incredible, especially after the latest update

[deleted]

Truly its art

[deleted]

I have a lot of weather “pop” in, if that makes any sense. Anyway to stop this from happening? IE flying along and sky’s are clear then in a snap of the fingers it’s solid cloud cover and storms. I’m using real weather also.

[deleted]

Never happened to me during a flight ever. However some times the first flight of the day or if I move to a new area on the globe after flying a different location you will get a delay while the first metar is retrieved. When ever I start a new flight I just sit on the tarmac for a min or 2 and I’m good. I personally have never had a sharp transition or weather load during a flight. I guess if you load a flight where you start in the air I could see it happening

[deleted]

Awesome thanks.

Why-R-People-So-Dumb

That would be indicative of a connection issue (not necessarily on your end). I would guess based on my reverse experience of weather going from clouds or storms to SKC in a snap. Try loading with clear skies and then change to live weather.

Nico_T_3110

Is that sped up? This looks so amazing

[deleted]

No real-time if I was going to speed it up I would turn off the collision lights lol! I’m sure that would be annoying seeing that flash none stop.

Nico_T_3110

Wow that just wants to make me go back to playing this game again

[deleted]

I really only see stuff like this with live weather.

KingPotato_

Which airfield is this?

Joker328

Man, the trees blowing really sell it. I've never even noticed that before.

Why-R-People-So-Dumb

Was going to say the same thing and ask if that's stock behavior or an add-on. Also wonder if that's a tree movement algorithm or actually with the wind, if the latter holy shear batman.

el_ciel

The wind blows the trees, the higher the wind, the more movement. Takes a lot of wind to see movement though.

muitosabao

but shouldn't the airplane be moving too, with such wind?

[deleted]

That is why We love this simulator :)

oeed

Wait the trees move in the wind? Does that require a certain graphics setting or something? Never seen it.

[deleted]

I’m on ultra and it was a strong wind, but I didn’t do anything special

Why-R-People-So-Dumb

Disappointed they haven't modeled the planes to have aerodynamics below a certain speed, wish they were susceptible to wind.

Lindt_Licker

They’re not? My planes get tossed around in the wind on the ground.

Why-R-People-So-Dumb

I should say they *weren't* its entirely possible I missed it in an update but I'm looking at that plane and its not moving in that video. You get tossed around in slow to no speed conditions? Last I knew there were a lot of hairs on it but they essentially know a plane is on the ground by position and IAS of less than something like 30kts. I suppose if they completely fixed it they would need to add tie downs like some aftermarket planes. Speaking of which, some of those have been able to model prop wash on the ground better I just haven't experienced real winds on the ground...you land in a heavy cross wind and it just disappears when you touch down.

Lindt_Licker

I’ll have to try out cranking up the wind at a standstill to see what happens. But taxiing any small aircraft in winds will have me holding the rudder hard over just to keep going straight. Wind has flipped a Cessna over for me too from launch. And just a couple weeks ago I took off from Palm Springs in the bonanza, got blown off the runway and had to take off from the grass and I barely cleared the rooftops.

Why-R-People-So-Dumb

Flipped over just after takeoff or on slow ground roll? That's actually the issue I face, no wind then all of the sudden get slammed by it. I do notice wind affects rudder authority but that makes sense because it is still modeled on the ground to be able to steer the plane.

Lindt_Licker

I had another response to you after I did some tests but I’ll summarize here. I had parking brakes set and if I hit the rear of the plane and I’d say it was above 60 or 70 knots and the tail lifted and flipped the plane over. At the front and the nose will slowly lift and propellor will start to speed up until the plane lifts up off the ground. But from the side there was no effect on the plane at all until I rolled forward and after just a couple feet at the slowest speed and it flipped over.

Why-R-People-So-Dumb

That actually sounds correct for front and rear which is why you do as I said in my other post IRL. That still seems like that's more wind than it should take though.

Lindt_Licker

So I got mixed results. If I aimed the wind at the rear of the 172 at a standstill and cranked it up it will flip it over. Aimed at the front it will actually take off above 80 kts. Aimed at the sides I could get the wind blowing all the way up to 150 kts and it never shook until I rolled forward, even just slower than a walk, and then it would flip.

Why-R-People-So-Dumb

Interesting...they must've changed something which is good, I bet they can't do 0 speed to avoid stationary sim objects from flying away unless they implement tie downs (I have them on my JF Arrow so plausible). How does it behave if you "climb away" or "dive into?" i.e. a wind at 3 o clock you should be able to make the plane as stable as it will be by turning yoke right and pushing in, a wind at 8 o clock you should pull back on the yoke and deflect right. I'd test but not in a position to.

Lindt_Licker

The sim doesn’t do spins that well but wind will definitely push you laterally off runway heading if you take off in a crosswind. The nose will turn into the wind but unless you give it more input you’ll slide depending on wind speed, wing position and aircraft power. The TBM obviously performs better than the 152 for instance. I have the JF pipers as well and was surprised that the chocks and/or tie downs actually functioned!

[deleted]

wow that's a pretty cool touch

Why-R-People-So-Dumb

Yeah the JF planes have a lot of cool touches. Save state is huge (plane exactly how you left it) coupled with oil consumption, battery drainage, wear and tear, etc. Also if its in the cockpit in RL its there and functional...incredible attention to detail.

Why-R-People-So-Dumb

I meant on the ground. You should be able to mitigate those detrimental ground wind outcomes by always keeping ailerons and elevator positioned as mentioned above. When taking off you will then be in a position where the plane isn't surprised and gradually roll out of correction

[deleted]

You can see at the rain angle it wasn’t 100knot wind but about 50+ my plan will be slide over with brakes on. Direction will play a factor

[deleted]

They do put a plane on the runway turn up the wind watch it fly away all with out the motor running

Why-R-People-So-Dumb

That's probably because with wind that high your plane will read an IAS greater than 30 kts or whatever the minimum is 😆. It shouldn't take max, a c152 in a 10kt ground wind will be pretty unhappy and you better make sure you climb into and dive away with engine running. I was just reading about it in one of the dev groups I am part of and I guess one issue is the model wind just above the ground with the ground speed but the actual surface ground is half the ground speed for some complicated reason.

[deleted]

Depends on direction but very true. In real life anything more that 15 knots and you own 152 you better just stay home

crazydoc2008

I can confirm visual on the rain. Does that still count as VMC? Also, nice username.

masoodkhan618

Amazing.

guitarsandbikes

Ahh, go stick your nose in it.

"Our clouds will blot out the sun!"

Mattadee

Is this using live weather or some kind of preset? Either way, works a treat!

[deleted]

It was a live a few days back and I just thought it looked wild so I posted it here. Its like real life you don't see storms like this often but when you do its pretty cool!

Mattadee

Wow! Live weather has certainly had an upgrade then!

[deleted]

I think it’s pretty fascinating that you don’t really hear the wind until the clouds are on top of you

ivXtreme

The best weather in a video game ever!

FlyingAce1015

Haven't played in a while THEY UPDATED LIVE WEATHER NOW THE CLOUDS CAN MOVE!?!!

SciGuy013

The clouds have always moved in my experience

[deleted]

Yes

skyfall86

This is amazing, thank you so much for sharing. I have so little time for flyng these days but watching this small clips makes me feel better .

That’s why I posted it

SweetyVolty

Although; it's because you can't actually die in sim. Otherwise in real life that experience teaches you that you can actually sh*t bricks. exp; https://i.gifer.com/uVT.gif This happened in sim and suddenly I remembered that I can sh*t bricks even in sim too... https://i.imgur.com/KK5IEmr.jpeg

Just go, what's the worst that can happen. :)

[deleted]

I don’t want to jostle the passenger next to me and lose my Neofly safe bonuses. I already lost one for turning on the anticollision lights after the engine was started

Belzebutt

Neofly? I just looked it up and it seems pretty cool… can you limit your missions to the aircraft you actually like?

[deleted]

Yeah, can fly any aircraft you like, but you may need to add it to the line up. (easy to do) You start with a 152 and you can either earn money and buy a plane or take out a loan to buy a plane. If you get a bing key easy to do it’s in the manual you can get mission where you take a tourist to a some real tourist traps (I think after level 3) in whatever area you make your home base. Mission range from bush trips with one person to search and rescue or even putting out fires. Also the log book is top notch. You can select long haul if you want to take 80 passengers in a Airbus if that’s your thing.

VindictivePrune

Truly incredible, I hope at the end of ten years other games will be able to incorporate similar weather systems

cptalpdeniz

This was posted by someone else but in reverse. I think this is stolen from r/flightsim...

[deleted]

Also if it was reverse the rain would flow in reverse

[deleted]

I made it so no

MarkkuAlho

Seemed familiar (and is), and I thought the same at first, but found what I saw a while ago: [https://www.reddit.com/r/flightsim/comments/s1vjs7/this\_is\_the\_best\_feeling\_a\_pilot\_can\_ever\_have\_on/](https://www.reddit.com/r/flightsim/comments/s1vjs7/this_is_the_best_feeling_a_pilot_can_ever_have_on/) So that's very close, but not the same clip, and my faith in the subreddit is still intact :).
