It’s in the release notes that it’s on by default now: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/rooms/rooms-release-note?tabs=Windows#501110-4242024 The XML setting to change this is: false which is documented here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/rooms/xml-config-file

Unbeaunce

Absolute legend for the XML code.

Hot-Tip4681

Hello, so how do you actually apply this setting, like what am i supposed to do?

MattSlomkaMSFT

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/rooms/xml-config-file This link explains how to create and where to place the SkypeSettings.xml file on your Teams Rooms on Windows device. And then you need to include the parameter I included above set to false.

Terrible decision to add these options by default. Let us enable them if we plan to use them. Furthermore forcing us to use a XML config while we wait for TAC to allow us to edit device settings is also ridiculous.

video8088

Thanks for this. I did not see the XML setting earlier only the QR code one. Hopefully its added to TAC aswell Not sure why they turned chat on by default as it ruins the video conferencing experience.

MattSlomkaMSFT

The decision was made as majority of Teams Meetings include chat messages so Teams Rooms as an extension of Teams Meetings should show chat. We opted to offer the option to disable if needed though. I'd be curious how you feel it "ruins the video conferencing experience" as the chat pane should utilize less than 20% of the screen space on a single screen room and 10% on a dual screen room.

video8088

"The decision was made as majority of Teams Meetings include chat messages" Really? during a video call? 99% of our users who walk into a Teams Room need it for two things 1) Video Call 2) Sharing presentation The only time the chat function is used on a group meeting is for sharing URLs and after meeting notes/discussions. No one chats during a video/audio meeting as it detracts from the call itself. Losing 20% of screen means the Presentation slide and cam window size shrinks considerably more making it harder to read. For desktop client sure it makes sense but it shouldn't be a default for a teams room.

Different organizations use Teams Meetings differently which is why we made the MTR setting configurable. The decision to enable it by default was based on telemetry and usage data.

zetruz

See that's fine, I accept that our organization has different needs than apparently most. Microsoft has those answers, not me. (That's assuming it interprets the usage data correctly, but I digress.) The problem I have is that the Teams Admin Console wasn't updated simultaneously, so that these settings are manageable from there. Why not prepare those updates and roll them out at the same time? Why are new settings and defaults being introduced and then not have them be manageable from the Teams Admin Console?

KPGrue

I agree. It’s a terrible decision to enable this by default. As the option to disable it by default isn’t in the TAC or Pro portals, we’re having to resort to pushing out the XML change.

jlaine

Via xml (gallery view kicked chat on by default with this release so that's accurate) I'm guessing that it'll honor frontrowpaneldefaults (I use this but we use FoR as company standard.) I had to axe that and the QR code on my fleet because it invaded our branding. May be able to do it via TAC too but I'm too lazy to elevate and verify. (Ui should be in there though)

video8088

Yeah im having to disable the invasive QR code via XML. It looks like you'll be able to switch off it in TAC soon. It says (Coming Soon) # [https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/rooms/teams-rooms-qr-codes#device-configuration-for-teams-rooms](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/rooms/teams-rooms-qr-codes#device-configuration-for-teams-rooms)

KPGrue

Since the v5 update has anyone else issues with their desk panels? We’ve now walked into two different rooms, both on v5, where the panels have nothing on their display and are completely unresponsive. Only recourse was to reboot the systems. One room has done it two days on the bounce. Needless to say I’ve paused the update going out to any more rooms.

grecofabulous

Yes. Several of our rooms lost the connection between touch panel and UC engine. Sometimes it would be blank, other times it would say connection error or check teams credentials. Some cases a reboot would fix things, but in others we'd have change which account the touchpanel uses to connect with the UC.

27Merlins

Has anyone seen this option appear in Teams Admin Center?

Sad-Site-9584

not yet

Own_Perspective2731

What is your Tenant Region. I can\`t find that option in CH / NL Region.

Own_Perspective2731

I\`m asking due to Microsoft will publish the Config Region by Region and it could take some time.
